I want to set a picture as a background for my Sms, I have the T-Mobile HTC HD2, but I am trying to figure out how to do it, or if there is a way. I came from an unlocked iPhone 3GS, and I know you can do it with that phone, also where could I find some cool themes for SMS, including color of the keyboard?
I have been curious as it if this is possible too. I see it all the time on my friends droid and get a tiny bit jealous lol
it would be nice to see a different colored keyboard. the sms on this phone is a bit boring

I love the EVO, and the whole android notificaton system, but am shocked that HTC removed this feature on the EVO.
On the Hero,
when you got a text message up in the notification bar, it would show the message notification and then have a little number showing how much.
Obviously if you had one message their would be one message in the notification bar, and 2 or and so on.
however on the EVO, if you get 1,2, or 3 messges it only show the messaging Icon without the number in the notification bar.
It seems stupid that they would keep that feature on the hero with a 3.2 in screen, but remove it from the EVO with a 4.3 inch screen.
I know on the standard Android like on the nexus one or the samsung moment or droid it only shows the messaging ICON without the number no matter how many messages you have.
I really miss this feature, Is their anyway to install an .apk that would add that feature?
In the photo below it shows the missed call number and voicemail number in green, but they used to do that with texting and email
I didn't know the Hero has that. Would like this too on my Evo
its a small feature. but it was nice knowing if you hse more than one.
anybody???
Hi
I'm new to Android, coming from an iPhone4 to LG2. The worst point in this change until now is by far how Android handels the notifications.
On my iPhone I had a perfect lockscreen with every new Message. On Android, it puts every **** in the Dropdownmenue but doesn't show me on the lockscreen. I'm missing the most of all pushmessages, also for incoming mails... What am I doing wrong - or is this realy all? I tried Nils Notifications, but hey, not to compare with iOS! Any suggestions?
Cheers
Install Dashclock and you are done.
The Android lock screen is much more powerful than iPhone's lock screen. Since version 4.2 (which the G2 has) you can add lock screen widgets that display whatever information you need, even live information.
But I am asking you, how could you live with the iPhone not actively notifying you if you missed a message ? If you missed the initial notification, screen goes blank and you are not notified until you push the home button...yuck

Get "notify me" from xda or an iPhone. Or a ̶l̶̶i̶̶v̶̶e̶ life.
First of all, you have to understand that if you're going to change platforms, things are going to be different. The good news is that now that you're FREE, you can find ways to make your phone do whatever you want. But it is going to require searching and effort on your part. Good luck and ENJOY!
It is good to know you have seen the light and moved from the dark side.
What's iPhone?
What are some of the delightful things you found about this phone but you might not have expected when you bought it?
I like that Double-clicking on the volume key will take a picture regardless of whether the camera app is open or not. A "blind" shot without any viewfinder will take some practice, but it's a cool feature once you get the aim right.
and of course the gorgeous screen and killer camera are among the best out now.

Agreed on all your points.
The screen is very bright. The auto brightness at night works very well going from a lit room to a dark room. I read a lot of ebooks on my phone and my N7. Reading on the G4 so far has been great even with tiny font.
The overall build feel other then the slots for SIM/MicroSD feels superior to my Galaxy S4.
Phone call audio quality on speaker phone yesterday during my first call was incredible talking to my wife on her LG G3.
The messaging app is somewhat themeable which is a plus over the AOSP sms app which is too bloody bright white.
I find the battery to be holding up pretty well. Smart Settings and Smart Cleaning are both pleasant surprises I need to explore in depth.
I dislike the headphone jack on the bottom, out of box with my T-mo sim it did not connect to the LTE APN (fast.t-mobile.com) I had to enter it.
Ringtone ID
G4 has the ability to customize different ringtones for different callers, so you know who's ringing without having to check your phone.
I know, custom ringtones have been around for years, but the G4 takes things a little further by automatically generating a unique tone for each user, based on their phone number

The ability to check the clock by simply dragging down the notification shade with the screen off is probably one of the coolest things.

Yes that is a good one. Very useful
So who likes the app drawer being gone or adding it back in the settings? I was trying as is but I'm feeling closterphobic with the big disarray mess of icons all over the home screens. Who else is not digging the app drawer not being there?
The Always on screen doesn't come with very many options or customizations as the GS7. I'm feeling the pain for that.
It's always overwhelming getting settled into a new phone. The other issue i ran into was all my apps didn't sync on their own from google like they normally do. I had to use the LG Smart Switch app to transfer from the GS7 to the G6. That caused a panic i though i would have to manually install each app like the old android days.
It freaked me out going from my 6P to the G6 because everything was different and not what I was used to. After a day or two I settled in.
And yes... App drawer was a must for me
I'm app drawerless still. It sounds like you have a lot more apps. Mine fits on one page and bordering on needing a second. I manually installed because I didn't need everything I had installed my S5.
Not using AOD because I don't need to be aware of everything that happens on my phone. I imagine it's meant to take the place of a notification LED though.
I selected the app drawer. I about had a fit trying to figure out how to add more homescreens. It took me 5 mins to figure it out. I found out how in the help file. You have to pinch and squeeze the screen to zoom out the homescreens to move them or add more. It seems like i had this type of behavior with my HTC One M7 if i remember correct. I'm 38 yrs old and in the last few years I noticed it takes me longer to get used to different phones or computer software. years ago i was always trying new things and not freaking out about it. Now if feels like the end of the world going to a different phone.
another gripe.... The emoticons are a funky shape same as my Nexus 7. They're not round normal faces like on the GS7. Any fixing that? I tried Swiftkey for the N7 but it didn't change them. I am enjoying the sound recorder. It looks professional. Even has a Vu Meter like real sound equipment!!!! I recorded the bird sounds outside. I have to play it back on the computer and see how it sounds. Hopefully better then the GS7. I like recording bird sounds often but don't have the money for dedicated sound recorders. Another gripe is when doing selfies it shows a mirror image so the picture is backwards. I went in the settings and fixed it to save the picture the right way but the live view still shows a mirror image. I couldn't see no way around it. I'm not used to that. No wonder why there's so many backward selfies on FB. I wondered why so many people had backwards selfies that weren't looking into a mirror.
Launcher: use Nova. infinitely customizable. LG's launcher sucks.
Emoji: use Textra. You can pick any emoji set you want.

I do have nova just not on this phone. One think i like about the built in themes though is it themes the colors on the GUI ie the message windows, settings, dialer etc. If i use a theme from LG in conjuction with nova would that give me a themed look for the GUI windows?
Is Textra a separate messaging app or just emoji's?
Thanks.
An update on the sound recorder. I am playing the sound recording of the birds back on the computer with Audacity and am amazed. I adjusted the gain about the same as i did on the RecForge 2 on the GS7. With the recordings form the GS7 i still have to boost it in Audacity and still don't get anywhere because of background noise. But this, I don't need to boost the sound anymore and it sounds great. I think the sound is louder then the noise floor/ background noise or something. More sensitive mic? Still need to record more bird sounds and listen more but so far sounds good.

I run nova along with black theme and yes it uses the black for the over lay in settings, dialer, etc. But you can still use whatever nova them you'd like for icons just use ez hime swither to swap back to lg theme selector.
I picked up an LG V20 recently, and am loving it. I see it lacks an LED notification light, instead relying on the second screen to show notifications when the screen is off. Apps like Textra let me theme the color of its notification, which makes it much easier to identify at a glance. Was wondering if anyone knew of a way to theme or replace (for example WhatsApp or Hangouts notification icons to be a different color. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

I still think it'd be great if there was a way to make the whole 2nd screen flash a solid color at maximum brightness a few times because yeah it grabs your attention more so than a static icon
I found this thread through a search. I am wondering the same thing as I evaluate a V20. The email notification icon on the Second Screen (I use the Stock email app) is very small. Is there any way to make this larger at minimum and best case, flash continuously like a notification LED which the phone otherwise lacks? Just making it the size of the other Second Screen app icons would be a big help. I would prefer not to try rooting/customizing as I am not confident in my skills and am concerned about bricking the unit.
