[Custom Boot Animation] Water drop splash - Desire Themes and Apps

Tired of Htc quietly brilliant boot animation? Here's a little something I made this afternoon. I used Uberadri's from MoDaCo custom animation (http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liquid-liquid-modaco-com/308556/boot-anim-liquid-drops-boot-animation/) and replaced acer liquid logo with Htc Desire and I played around with the endless loop sequence, cuz' his was only two images long.
Here's a preview on youtube: HD-version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w86_ie52nZ0
LowRes version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLXZMYnugs
Anyway, here's the link, use it if you will and how you will
- HD version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ikumnld2nwg/RainDropSplash_Desire.zip 12.7Mb
- LowRes version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zmiik3myizn/WaterDrop_Desire.zip 3.91Mb compressed - smaller file size, "Desire" image static
Installation:
adb push RainDropSplash_Desire.zip /data/local
tell me what you think

Looks amazing.
Can it also be installed by using recovery and apply the zip file?

Sure, that's how I installed it:
- boot into recovery mode
- recovery-windows.bat
- adb-windows.exe shell mount /system
- adb-windows.exe push bootanimation.zip* /data/local/
- adb-windows.exe reboot
*(ofcourse in this case it might be a good idea to rename the downloaded file from RainDropSplash_Desire.zip to bootanimation.zip

Whenver I try and make my own it doesn't work. Maybe it's something to do with the way I zip...even though I choose store Your boot animation looks great, however it is a pretty big file! It might be worth compressing the images further. Also, without sounding like a complete douche... Tyred should be tired

Is it a HQ version? It looks good, I'll probably install it later

From what I've gathered, it needs to be an uncompressed zip using 24-bit PNGs, and make sure you know what the desc.txt is doing and that it matches your images. Can you check all that?

I installed it and worked fine, but then I had to uninstall it for 2 reasons:
1) It's quite big, and I'd rather save the space for apps right now. MCRr3 only has 80MB free space and I'm not taking the risk of a2sd yet.
2) The animation is good, but the text looks really tacky. You could do with a better font, and colour to make it look slicker. The flashing "desire" text at the bottom should be static IMHO

I agree on both counts mate. It was a one afternoon job and I'm not quite crazy about the font resolution either. But as I said it's a quick make. In a couple of days I might come up with a non-HD version, crispier text and yes - static "desire" text.

@pympster:
My HD was actually 36bit, so I'm not sure if it's a necessity... try getting a bootanimation zip and just replace images in it with your own, leaving original
file namings intact. Worked for me

I tried simply inverting some of the images but this removes any bootanimation (just black screen). Any ideas?
Edit: I think its just the way Linux made the archive as I've now got a nexus one working. Still a bit of a mystery.

Send over the boot animation you had in mind, if it's a quick fix I can have it sent back to you in a couple of hours. No promisses tho

in say winrar you should select compression method: STORE. You probably left it on the default which is set to NORMAL
anyway my offer still stands

I've got it sorted now, I was using the linux command line and had to use the '-0' argument (which is as you said, store with zero compression). Thanks for your offer anyway though!

[Q] In call color question

I'm running TAZv9 mod and have a nice looking color mod that makes my phone look and run really nice. Just curious if there was anyway to change the color on the screen that comes up when you are in a call. It has a red background when the call ends and green while you are in the call. Is there anyway to change this to a blue or whatever when you are in the call...basically is this something that can be skinned with one of the programs that is out there(MetaMorph).
I'm 41 years old and my 20 yr. old son has gotten me into this whole rooting thing. I appreciate you all letting an old guy hang in your forum. I write test software for a living so I am interested in maybe getting to the point where I can start messing with my own software apps, etc.
I'm sorry if the question seems really dumb to all you bright young people, but I couldn't find anything about it on the search button.
Thanks for any info and help,

I can probably put together a quick metamorph for you. The file is in Phone.apk
So instead of the green gradient you want a blue gradient? And keep the red gradient when it ends?
Just place the attached file on your sdcard in "AndroidThemes" and use Metamorph.
Yep. That is exactly what I want. Thanks!

Just download the file and your computer. Hookup your phone and mount the sdcard. Then create a folder on it called "AndroidThemes". Next download "Metamorph" from the market. Run it and select the "blue-in-call" theme, and apply it.
Yes...I figured that out and it looks great. My questions were about what you used to modify the graphic (Photoshop)? Im hoping to start modifying some stuff and make my own graphics to use with Metamorph.

Shutdown animation .cfg file

So I want to customize my own shutdown animation. I am following this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732311
I have 370 .png files (480x800) along with a .cfg in /system/media/video/shutdown. The only problem i seem to be having is that When i go to shutdown my phone, my first frame will come up, and the first 1-5 frames or so will play, and then it will just stop playing and my phone will just down. I know it has something to do with the .cfg file and how its written but i cant figure it out.
I know that by default the Vibrant is limited to 14 frames at shutdown, however i used the config file in the tutorial claims to remove that limit. That didnt work so i tried to edit it based on .cfg files that i saw. still didnt work.
Can anyone explain to me how to write this .cfg so that it plays my shutdown animation all the way through? thanks.
Dont tell me I posted in the wrong section please, I wasnt sure where to post so I followed the lead of the tutorial, which was under development.
I recently made a shutdown cfg file that had more than 14 images. I used the text 0123456789 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 . . . . It did work (but I eventually scrapped it in favor of a single image shutdown).
One thing you could do is grab the shutdown cfg of a custom ROM (I looked at axura 2.1) and see how it appears.

thats exactly how i rewrote mine earlier today, all damn 370 pngs, and i got the same symptoms.
i cant figure why its happening, im running Fusion1.1, but i know that your ROM/OS version doesnt affect shutdown animations.
Hey TopShelf...how is it that you have enough room on your system partition for a shutdown animation with 300+ images? I am trying to create one with 150 and the folder is 40mb, but I only have around 30mb free on the vibrant.
Do you simply have more free space, or are my images too big? (I made the png's 480x800)
Also, is there a way to control the speed the images are shown? I thought to cut down the amount of fps to get my shutdown folder down to a smaller size, but that just makes the animation fly by.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Could it be an issue with the zip? My experience is that it is very quirky. In root explorer, it kept showing old shutdown_x.pngs as thumbnails and sometimes the animation would freeze. I had to try it a couple of times before it took.
But mine was more of a slideshow than animation and I didn't have 340 shots.
To delay the speed, could you just have the cfg repeat a png? 12333334444...?

You can avoid the old images showing up simply by deleteing the old shutdown further altogether BEFORE replacing it with the new one, instead of just dropping the new one while the old one is still in place and letting it automatically replace.
it just wont seem to play past the first 1-5 frames. Im honestly just about to give up
I was testing this all day yesterday I downloaded a working shutdown and added my own files edited the cfg file and samething happened to me. I tried using the images that came in the file and just editing them in photoshop without editing the cfg. Works like a charm. The only issue I have is making my own. I can edit others images but can't make my own or edit the cfg file.

I started to work on one months ago, it was around 60 frames and it worked just fine. When I get home i will upload it so you can play with it if you want? Still plan on finishing it but have been focusing on finals and other things.
370? Maybe there is a limitation to the amount of frames, or images you can use.
Here's the old thread. The download link is dead.

yes 370 is a lot haha, but damn it i like making my phone cower in fear
Here's what I did. I don't know if this IS what caused it....or a huge coincidence. But I too was having the same problem with 86 .PNG files it would play about 14. When I looked at the properties of my shutdown folder I created in windows, it was checked as "read only" so, for the hell of it, I un checked it. Put it back in my SD, then into the shutdown folder via root file manager and it worked! Like I said.....I can't say for sure this had anything to do with it working, but its worth a try. I haven't tried another one mainly because I don't want it to not work again! Haha! Good luck.

Sorry completely forgot about this, lol. Here is the rar, just take the cfg out of it.
Did you try using your mouse with your left hand only? If you click the left mouse button three times and spin at least once in your chair the CFG will work. At least that's what I had to do.
LOL, I kid!!!

FYI I was able to get the shutdown working by editing the shutdown.cfg with Gvim.
maybe the editor you were using was causing issues.

Anyone changed lcd density yet on their A500?

I saw a post recently about changing lcd density higher will revert the launcher to Gingerbread looking launcher. I prefer to still have the HC launcher, but thought that a higher lcd density might make the fonts and widgets bigger. I've done this on my Nook Color running CM7, and I just love how it looks at 200. I'm just scared to mess around with the A500 right now without nandroid backup possible. Anybody brave enough to try to change their lcd density yet? Please post some screen shots if you did and at what lcd density you have set it. Thanks!
I changed it to 300 and I changed to 100.
At 100 it looked really great when going through browsers since it gave you a full view though the text was a bit small.
at 300 it looked like a phone with big icons and text
Keep in mind that the settings revert after you reboot

Any idea why the change in settings won't stick after a reboot? It's not convenient to keep on changing the setting since every change also needs a reboot to take effect.

Changing to anything >200 caused it to fail on boot before it was rewritten. It just hung at the boot logo.
I managed to get in with adb and reset it, but I'd highly recommend against trying this.

I ran at 120 for a while with very good success until i noticed that 90% of what was on the market wasn't compatible with my device. I had to change it back.
I used "LCD Resolution" which can set at boot and works pretty well.
Anyone know a way past the incompatible market stuff?
Well, from the looks of things, I set mine to "leave it the heck alone"

just copy the build.prop from your system folder to ur computer..open it in notepad 2
next press crtl+F and type density..
you will find to rows with density written in it..i guess its 75 and 76 row..
on the right side of the density it is showing 240 change it to 200...and 200 is very good...
make it 200 in both the rows..
save it..
copy it in ur sd card...open root explorer in ur device...copy that build.prop file from the sd card folder..
now on the right corner..mount it as R/W...and paste it in the system folder...overwrite and reboot...

Thanks, some nice stuff in there, even if a lot of it is really a ADW.EX tutorial.
Just fyi, you have a typo in the video description--you say ADX EX launcher.
About Customize Menu--you can reorder (or remove theoretically, but this was buggy for me) the items that appear on the top bar and in the drop-down when you push the menu button. I use this so that I can have Add in the menu, because I keep the top bar hidden and there is no other easy access to add/remove/move home screen pages.

Help!!!!!
can someone post a copy of their build.prop (6810)? Would that help?
I can get into recovery, but rebooting form there doesn't do anything.....
Anyone with any bright ideas?
I can get into recovery, but I can't connect to the device via the pc to get at the files. well, that isn't quite true, I can see them if I use a pgr called DROIDEXPLORER, I can copy from the device to the PC but not back the other way. So I tried to edit the build.prop locally and push it back (using droidexplorer) but the one on the device just stays the same with the edit above in it...
I'm now considering flashing a new FW as the only way to get the tab going again.
Any help?
followed instructions and still couldn't write to sd card with ES File Explorer. Can't tell with homepage redraw... What's bad is that this killed my internet connection. After rebooting, the status bar shows me connected to either my home wifi or my H+ service provider but I can't access the internet nor my local network... Restarting the 7.7, deleting the relevant lines, restarting my router/cable modem (still have internet on my main comp and ipad) all didn't help.
I guess I have to reflash my 7.7.
OK, so after a sleepless night (the little one was on full song) I reflashed my Tab this morning and way hey! It is back in the land of the living.
Pheww.
Jade, I think the hack to keep the homescreen in memory might need to be revisited? I followed the instructions to the letter. After applying the hack the device just would not come to life. It wasn't a case of screen-off, device on either. I plugged it in to a PC and there was nothing. The only way I could get the PC to see it was to start it in recovery.
Maybe it is just a combination of things on my machine and I guess these things can just happen, but I think it might be worth checking?
I'm totally happy with flashing now though
Just thought this could use a bump since it was so helpful to me.

It worked for me (Galaxy Tab 7.7 wifi) so you probably entered something wrong... Actually I realised that after entering "ro." the keyboard inserted a space after the dot, so it looked like this: ro. HOME_APP_ADJ=0 and it is like this: ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0 see the difference?
I realised right away and fixed it. If I were you I would try it again....
It works for me alright, I don't know if at the end uses too much ram and slows down other things, if it does I'll just delete that line and that's it....
Thanks to Jade W. good idea...

Nope, just tried it again, result dead tablet... My tablet definitely does not like this line in build.prop
So, I would advise caution with this line. Take a backup before trying it or get comfortable with reflashing.

HAs anyone got any bright ideas about pushing the original build.prop file back? ADB push just gives me "failed to copy 'build.prop' to '/system/build.prop': Read Only File
I'd rather just get the correct one in there than re-flash...

Boot animations [1080p]

I bring you some boot animations I have made still are a little rough but work. I have updated a few and will be updated regularly.
These are installed by using a file manager aka "Root Explorer" and are not flashed. Rename to "bootanimation.zip"
The sparking orb.

Golden purple swirl

My envisioned of nexus (updated 11/12/13)

I know I could. Just takes time find a good clip and and a few hours to edit.
Real fire in slow motion

Blue circles

Purple sparkles swirl

180MB for a boot animation is a bit too much. I've seen other HD animations at a fraction of that size.

Well its a mix of the high quality and amount of images in the animations. There are some smaller ones I have put out myself that are posted here by two thirds the size. Its also easy to edit the zip and shorten the animations amount of images in the the three "part" folders inside the zip. I dont have any issues with not having enough space on my 16gb phone at all. This is still a work in progress, so keep posted for changes and updates.

Thank you. I have an other one I gotta finish that looks cool as well.
Excuse my ignorance, but here where is the original boot animation located in the system?? I understand how I am supposed to replace it, but I cannot find it in the system.
I tried using the usual boot animation management app instead and it seems to have worked for "My envisions of nexus", however it appears it gave me a boot loop, so best to avoid using boot animation managers on kitkat everyone.

That said it gave me extremely long boot times and a freeze or two using a couple of these and I have reverted to stock
Hi RichieRich84,
Thank you for your work and yours beautiful bootanimation, i'm french moderator on MIUI France, i created also bootanimation and i love to share my work. i want to know if you were agree that i share your bootanimation, I will not forget to mention you and thank you in my posts and I would like to know if you agree that I modified or remastered to possibly add the MIUI France logo. Of course I will not do that with your agreement.
Thank you in advance and wish you a great day.

Some do have a long cycle times before it allows your phone to start and could cause hang ups id imagine. If you could tell me which you are having issues with I will change them so that's not a issue as such. These are working drafts basically.

What animation are you thinking of using? You are welcome to link to my post to to share so far. I reworked My Envisioned nexus.
i would like to share The sparking orb, Rotating Xray skull, Real fire in slow motion, Blue circles and Purple sparkles swirl. In a first time, i wish to put them in the good format to share them and in a future probably arranged few with a logo or other thing. Of course for those i will arranged i will share it and speak about them with you on this forum

Your personal view of nexus just took a long time but when I tried real fire it locked up at the end. By the way, you CAN package these as a zip.
Here is a zip of the default boot animation for people if they want to revert to stock and maybe didn't think to rename the original instead of deleting or overwriting it.
It would help others if in your OP you mention that the boot animation file is in /system/media and that they should remember to set permissions on the file to rw r r after they replace it as well.

I updated the Envisioned Nexus, its also only 10mb now. Try it and let me know what you think. P.S I will trim the fire animation a little or maybe by half thus doubling the speed.

Real Fire, blue circles and Purple swirl will be ok for you to use as long as you credit me and show link to your post in this thread. The skull and orb I would like left alone for now.

Are you saying this is a flashable? The OP posted them as zip files. I tried just renaming this one and it just shows me the Google logo not the stock nexus logo animation.
Sent from my Nexus 5
I'm not saying his are flashable i am saying he could make them flashable if he wants to. The one I posted is flashable and is only the stock one if you want to go back to it
