Woke up today and noticed I had a lot of missed calls and messages. Tried to send myself a message and noticed there is no sound. Could the hardware be damaged? I did not install anything and I already checked everything on the system. Can anyone give suggestions?

I hate to ask, but I have to really. Do you have ringtone volume turned up? Also, in case you're not aware, you can set ringtone and system volume to be 2 different things.
Other than that, if the volume is turned up fully, can you play a music file and see if that works? Try every possible software solution before thinking it's hardware.

Yep. Did all of that. I even re-flashed the ROM just to make sure but still nothing. Guess I'll have for warranty.

Just one final check - does the earphone socket work? If it does then it's obviously a speaker problem. If the earphones don't work either then it would suggest software, but I really don't see what software could cause this after a ROM flash.
Yes the speakers socket work. Calls are fine. It's just the rear speaker that is not working. I also tried plugging/unplugging the earphones coz it happened before that after removing the earphones there was no sound. But before it worked, now still nothing.

Hi,
Following on from my phone app problems, my XDA Mini S has now stopped producing sound alltogether!
I believe the problem is that the phone thinks i have the headset plugged in, as i can hear sounds through the suppluied headphones but nothing when they are unplugged - not even during a call.
Please can someone make a suggestion? I have tried soft resetting.
:?:
EDIT: I should point out that i can hear the ringtone when the phone rings through the speaker but absolutely no other sounds - nothing in calls and nothing from the speakers - WMAs etc.
try unplugging and plugging it back in a few times (quite a few in one go)
the headphone "sensor" is usually hardware which picks up when something is physically plugged in .
not sure what else to try
if u have had it less then 30 days then get a replacement next day from o2.
or hard reset ? but backup first!
Hmm,
I just can't work this out. How come the ringtone plays through the speakers? If the phone thought the headset was plugged in would it not just play the ringer through the headset? Can anyone confirm this please?
Stupid phone :-(
Mine did the same, ringtone played OK but could only make calls with the headset plugged in. Thouhgt I was going to have to return it, but ried pushig the jack i alittle further before pulling it out and it all started working OK. I've not had the problme since.
hi guys , i have problem with sound as well , i just unblocked the simlock with lokiwiz02b , and suddenly there was no sound at all , i can call but there is no sound , i tried to play ringtones nothing works , headset is not solution as well , when i tried to run media player message - no hardware device to play sound or device not available , and everytime i open the volume control it's show that it's mutted and i can't scroll it up to make any sound all i can say it seems that system drivers for sound are ****ed up,
anybody have any idea how to solve it? i have still few days to return it but i played with this simlock so i'm afraid they can charge me extra for repair ,
Have you tried a hard reset?

My Charmer, has the opposite problem. My speaker went dead on my suddenly during a phone conversation on speaker phone mode. So, I can't hear any phone rings and stuff, but still able to make calls, with or without the ear phone.
Yes, confirm (for my charmer) that if you have your ear phone in, speaker won't give you any sound. So, don't think it is that earphone plug sensor thing problem.
yes i tried hard reset but everything still the same -no sound at all
No sound on earpiece, microphone ok
Well I tried the suggestions in the forum and still it didn't work. I then thought maybe there's dust and stuff in the workings, blew into the earpiece and it worked.
It's worth a try!
Hope this helps.
Hello to everybody.. I had the same problem for months and last week i gave my wizard to the assistance cause I feded up!
I solve the problem with 70 euros but now it-s better.
Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.
A big problem. My phone works good , but after 4-5 calls or messages he just stop playing a ringtone and vibrate ... i search on settings when this problem is on and seems that he chaNge the ringtone by itself. To make him work again i need to reset or off - on... i reinstall windows but i have same problem.
Sorry about my english
Does the phone actually change the settings OR does it keep the correct settings but just stops ringing?

I am trying to decide if this is a software or a hardware fault.
A common problem is the rear speaker (used for the phone ring) becoming loose. It's fairly easy to push the connector firmly back in place, but perhaps you should test this first.
One way to test this would be to play some sound files (MP3s etc, at a time when the phone is refusing to ring. If you get no sound or poor quality sound, then I think the connector is loose.
Other problems like the phone going to default ringtonemay or may not be related to the problem. First, do the above test to be sure it's is or isn't a hardware fault.

Well that probably removes the possibility of a hardware fault.
I'm afraid I cannot think what else to try.
I assume it does this with all ringtones you choose?

Yes... i frequently change my ringtones
One thing left to try that I can think of is to flash a different ROM. Not the easiest thing to do though if you have never done it before.
Mike
your problem may just be the phone itself. My phone also quit ringing, and I found out that it would only play certain ringtones, even though all my ringtones were stock and came with the phone. For some reason, certain ringtones just quit working. By using the standard default ringtone, the phone works just fine.
hi there
i have a Hermes, exactly the T-Mobile version..
anyway it worked fine till one day i got no sound at all, no mp3 no notifications, nothing....
except the boot up sound... checked the forums, seems it's a common problem, and i figured that the rear speaker works (since the boot up sound comes from it), the speaker cable is connected so i have no clue... if it would be broken, than the boot-up sound wouldn't come at all from the rear speaker, riight?
changed like 5-6 ROMs so far, from 6 to 6.5, no changes with sound...
any clue guys what to do?
I'd need to solve this asap...
thx for any solution
can please someone at least confirm me if my rear speaker is dead or not?
cos i hear the boot up sound from it but no other sounds...
please ,its urgent, thx
Well, the first thing that i would consider doing is backup my important data and do a hard reset....why don't you try that too....?
okay
got from ebay a new speaker... changed it and it doesnt work either...
hard reset and changing the ROM (6-7 of them) didn't help...
at beginning the sound could be heard at boot only while playing music, ringing and that stuff was mute... after 2 days the sound at boot disappeared too...
so, does anyone have a solution? when i plug the microUSB to 3.5mm adapter i can hear the sound on my earphones, but there is no sound when played normally on the ppc itself...
can anyone help me to solve this? where could be the problem?
thanks
okay...
going mad really... now i flashed an original AT&T US rom (although i have a tmobile EU) and guess what.... i hear the sound back again, but only at boot up... other sounds in winmo (ring, mp3, music, programs) are dead... can't hear anything although the volume is set at max...
so... i assume this can't be a hardware issue..
before this ATT i changed like 6 more different roms and all with same problems... now i have sound only at bootup... does anyone know where is the problem and a possible solution?
thanks
cmon guys... don't tell me no one has no idea what to do.....
i've been flashing and reflashing the roms but so far i can get only the boot up sound... any other sound is not available.. why? how to repair it?
thx
it's funny to see you can ask sometimes questions no one knows to answer
you've tried it by using the head set...?
whether the results were the same as well (no sound)..?
when using a headset (extUSB) there is sound and everything is normal...

you'd better check the speakers on your device , may be the connecting cable is damaged and if necessary you replace ....
I have the same problem here!!!Have you fixed that??Can you suggest me something, please???
Hi all... new here
I also have the same problem on my AT&T 8525. The Telephone speaker works but the phone doesn't ring or give audio notifications any longer. I've done a hard reboot 3 times. Bluetooth audio works fine. But no speakerphone. If anyone has a solution we'd appreciate it!
Thanks!!!

you see in the WIKI, because there is described several ways to increase the BT A2DP sound quality and sound notification by Changing the Registry
So, it seems I have finally found out how to adjust the microphone volume on the phone.
I have posted the instructions on my blog. If you try the solution it please respond if it works or not.
This might be veey interesting. I changed 88 to 100 but will only be able to talk to someone tomorrow.
From personal experience both sgs ans sgs2 have low treble input sent to peer. Ots annoying.
Posted from Galaxy S II
tried, we will see...
Interesting, there's an option for speaker receive volume too...
I tried it but it didn't work on audio recording (Hi-Q MP3 Recorder).
There is some way to adjust mic volume of voice recording?, My old SGS recordings were a lot louder than on my new SGSII.
Great thank you so much for the post. It helped me out.

MY SGS2 DOES NOT HAVE THIS VOLUME ISSUE! PEOPLE HEAR ME VERY WELL, SOMETIMES THEY ACTUALLY LOWER THE VOLUME IT IS SO LOUD!!!
Seriously, how much better does it get? I am not in a noise free environment at the moment, how big of a gain does this produce? Does this fix work with the genuine wired headphones?
i thought this fix was temporary only, after a phone reboot the fix resets to default ?

I must admit...in all the smartphone that i have ever used.....This is the only phone that i have never rebooted except when flashing roms/kernels etc...
I never reboot! I did today, because I wanted to calibrate the battery for the first time and I let it die. So I let it die after 24 hours of use, and then when it turned on it rebooted
I love my phone

It works but sadly as others have already mentioned, after a reboot, you have to re enter the settings, which is the only draw back, and am one of those who reboots the phone on a daily. Is there any way of making this permanent even following a reboot?. I can imagine its probably difficult, but thought I'd ask anywhere. Thanks op.
I'm actually looking for a way to lower the input gain, as my voice comes out distorted on the other side. Any clues? Besides the obvious "Turn 88 into something lower, I tried 70 and didn't work"
I don't know how the values can be saved so that they survive a restart. Personally I only restart my phone when it runs out of battery, or if I've done flashing that requries a reboot. If I need to disconnect from the real world airplane mode is used.
So, has anyone had any luck using this method? Seems to work for me.

That's quite the opposite problem Other than what you tried I have no idea. Sounds like a faulty device?

Actually, I tried 20 yesterday, and it did solve my problem!
Now sound is crisp and undistorted!
The question is,
1. How to make it stick reboot.
2. What do the rest of the volumes do? Vol0_1 0_2 0_3 etc, you suggested to edit number 5. Why specifically that one?
1. Still a mystery
2. My guess is that there are certain levels of output, and that all of them should be adjusted according to the other to have a linear line. The fact that I wrote that only 5 should be edited was simply because that worked for me.
First, great thanks hpe !!
I got my phone 2 days ago and got same problem.
ppl could not hear me well.
I tried your solution, hope it will help (tried 1-2 calls and seems ok).
I have noticed also that when you talk you should be
stable with your hand and your face , I mean,
it should be with fix distance between the mouth and phone, not important the distance but it should be stable during the call, if not the AGC comes up and down and the other side can't hear you well...
About save setting,
Maybe there is ini file or something (rooted phone) that can be changed to keep value after reboot, I have noticed in the 2 days I have the phone that I had to reboot phone after install application to get it works well.
I've follow the hpe solution but i still have volume problem
My specific problem is:
On Normal Mic call > very low volume... on my SGS2 with android 2.3.3
But with Speaker call > clear (no problem)
Very strange!! I can't be able to solve this problem.
I'd like to precise that with other voip app like bria or "csip simple" i have no problem, mic volume is perfect..

Speaker call uses different mic settings (since you've a higher distance between your mouth and the mic while using speaker), so it might just the "normal mic call" volume setting which fails.
I have understand and many thanks for your reply but it's strange that those settings works perfectly with the other voip applications..
