Ques on how to modify a rom without error - Hero CDMA General

I wanted to take a first stab at doing some basic mods to a ROM and signing it as a zip for myself both to learn how to make a rom and to get the rom just the way I like it.
I wanted to take the IC3ROM v2.5 and make some minor changes for personal use. I removed/added some apps and then signed the zip correctly. One of the changes I wanted to make was to remove the DConfig app. I tried to install it onto my Hero, but got some error about "Unverified" and "DConfig app missing".
Is there some file I need to edit to tell it which apps are included/excluded in the ROM?
Thanks in advance.

FYI, I've already read the faqs and searched about 10 times. Seems like the forum here has become too assuming that no one is searching. I do searches before I post a new thread, which I don't do a lot.
FYI, I did find this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551711
it seems somehow relevant, but I can't tell what specifically I have to do to remove the aforementioned error I'm getting.

How to create update.zip

Guys, I wanted to learn how to make one. I know the basics, but wanted to know what language it's written in and what are all the functions it supports and their syntax.
Where can I find this information? I tried searching but did not find anything.
edit: found a very helpful thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641223
making an update.zip isn't that hard, the only part that actually requires a bit of learning or familiarity is the update-script. just look at examples from themes and ROMs, and you'll likely get the hang of it really quickly. lastly, use a signing utility(i use autosign).

Thanks. Someone else had mentioned that. I did start looking the script and the update.zip file. But I wanted to figure out additional commands. What other functions are available for our disposal.
You searched it good alright. Let's see what 'make update.zip' comes up with on google. Oh my gosh, HOW TO MAKE UPDATE.ZIP FOR ANDROID PHONES.

Thanks hot shot.
Why dont you follow that link and see what it says for yourself. None of the links give me what i want. I already know that I can backwards engineer a update.zip. That's trivial.
I want to know other commands that are available. Someone has to know. Unless even the devs started to just modify old zips and go from there. That I can do too.
I swear there are people like you just searching threads to post such remarks instead of real technical or meaningfull posts.
okay I found some syntax for update script. Check out this thread.

Using "Root Explorer" a file manger app; find the system/build.prop folder; within build.prop look for the DNS settings towards the bottom of the file and change as needed/recommended per your carrier, i.e. T-Mobile for me.

So I took out the "NAND" but I don't understand your vagueness: There is an WMRom listed, it's VBN and it's the first link, there is another link for EBL, the autoboot app, etc.
Too many words, too few spaces between lines. Just a whole mess of words. Your info is good but "search" covers all this. Now one more result to sift through.

Thanks for the feed-back! I know it's a lot, but there are a lot of questions that repeat themselves that this would help to answer, especially for "Noobs". Obviously, for more "seasoned" members, we have gone through most of this when we set things up for the first time, or, believe it or not, even though we've been at this for a while some of these are new to us. I clean-it-up-a-bit and hopefully make it easier to read.
Merry Christmas!

I have "Root Explorer" on my apps link.
But, here you go;

Not be rude, but that's just the tiny package, just the new vendor and some google stuff, no apps tho.
I have the full and tiny posted on my OP page under "VANILLA - FroShedYo."
I believe framework packed the full, I just updated a few of the apps in it.

Thanks for that workshed. I just might post some screenshots because I already took them... and hey, would you mind if you could teach me a couple of tips for making ROMs? It's no prob if you don't.

If I can find the time. Start reading up on what you need. Install linux (64-bit if you want to start deving Gingerbread) get the sdk, read up on github, read about git and repo sync'ing, lot's to read before you start attempting.
I'll help you with any specific questions

Ah, if it's the official ROM you're running then I think that would be odexed. These mods only work on a deodexed ROM. That's why it won't change anything. I don't know of a way to do it on a odexed ROM.
oh, yes, you are right. i will change to deodexed rom, thanks.
and i saw that sombody asked you for a guide, any chance...?
you'll be my hero!
so, i will change to deodexed, can you do the new messege thing, please? just if you have spare time or something... lol
thanks alot for your time and help!!

A guide isn't too easy, as there are a lot of steps. Depends on how familiar you are with smali/baksmali and .smali code files. If you know how to use these tools then you're on your way.
I'll try and have a go with the 'New Message' short cut, but can't promise anything as not sure when I'll have a chance to sit down and do it. But if I get it done I'll be sure to PM you
thanks, and i dont know a thing about .smali, i hoped your guide will be my step up lol
so just if you have time and thats.
thanks for everything!
and i hope it didnt came up in a rude and greedy way, i am realy thankfull.

[Q] Wich steps I should take to make this work?

Hi there,
I have a question!
I want to install this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926507
But when I install the Rom, I think I do something wrong, It only shows the boot screen. I only can Install some small roms whitout sense.
I do It like this:
- I put the zip on my formatted SD card (Fat32)
- Then I open in MALGDR 1.3 the AD Recovery, and follow the correct steps.
Still, It won't work. If I do something wrong, can someone please help me with only the easy steps I have to take to make this work on my HD2?
Thanks in advance,
Fabian1985
