I have been using swype keyboard and it was working really well on fresh 2d but as soon as I updated rom to fresh 2.1.1 it gave me a pop up message saying that "swype trial has expired..." can anyone verify if it is due to the new rom or to the swype people trying to ruin people's fun? can anyone explain? or send me a new working swype keyboard for cdma hero on sprint
thanks everyone
me too. exact same problem.
Should I switch back to fresh 2.d or is there a fix? I am typing this on the default kb and its killling me!
Try changing the keyboard input to the standard keyboard and then back to the swype keyboard. Here is from the FAQ for the swype beta
Q: I registered and downloaded a beta-version Swype but I get one of the following messages:
"The Swype package you installed is configured for another device..."
"Your Swype version has expired some functionality..."
A: On your phone, open the "Welcome to the Swype Beta" email and download the Swype-Installer again. Let it replace the existing installer and finish doing the installation again. There was an error in our previous installer version.
NOTE!!! On some phones, including the Droid and the Nexus One, this upgrade only partially fixes the issue. You may still see one of the messages above after upgrading to the newest version. The workaround is - Each time you turn on your phone, before entering text, you need to switch between the Swype Keyboard and the Android Keyboard. After switching back to the Swype Keyboard it should work fine until you reboot again. Yes, it's annoying and we're working on it - It's a beta!

Or you could download the version from the link in the post above yours and not have to deal with it.
I'm getting a lot more errors with that1.25 than on the previous version.. I'm guessing the odd lag and it not being made for our heroes is playing a part.
No I found 2.1.1 better than 2d
I was having tons of lag and swype wasn't registering double key strokes at all. I ended up playing with some settings on my phone which required a wipe and nandroid restore. When i did it I made sure to not restore with the old version of swype and did a fresh install. Night and day difference now. Not sure what was ****ing it up before but I'm getting significant speed and accuracy improvement. Also double letters are working properly again
Anyone notice that this newer version (1.25) acts a little different then the older version as in it doesn't figure out the words as accurately as the previous?? I think it was like 1.14 (the apk was swype..Micro.black).
Maybe its just a setting i need to reset, or maybe i'm just chasing ghosts. Anyone else experience this oddity?
I am a new Hero owner. A friend told me about swype. Just installed and I think it took maybe 2.2 sec to fall in love with it. I got meaty fingers, and it rocks.
Just a side note, running it on Bittersweet v1.2
Anyone else get that Swype isn't configured for this device, and then it basically doens't work. Swyping won't work, but typing out letter by letter will.
V 1.25.....

I wondered if anyone has tried SWYPE on the Desire and if there are alternatives to it? The videos of Swype look fantastic.
yep have it running on mine and it is perfect, much better than shapewriter, it does however stop the pinch zoom from working, this only seems to work with the stock keyboard.

Do you mean the pinch zoom doesn't work at all on the phone or just to enlarge the keyboard?
Where do you get swype for the android by the way?

As my android is german, I don't exactly know what the menu items are called, but it should be something similar:
1. Download the .apk file and copy it to your phone's SD card
2. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Check "Unknown Sources"
3. Use an app like ApkInstaller, browse the apk and install it
4. Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Check Swype
5. In an input field, long-press the field, choose "Input Method" and "Swype".
6. If you wish, change the Swype settings in Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Swype.
That's it.
thanks for the comment. I am looking for apkinstaller in the marketplace but it's not coming up. I tried installing a couple of other apk installers but they both failed....
I'd post the QR code, but as I am a noob, I'm not allowed to.
So google for "apkinstaller" and you'll find it.
If not: What's the error message you get?

Thanks... I used an EoE installer in the end and that worked like a charm... Got Swype working but it's been crashing quite a few times..... I wonder when they will open the beta or release this as it does look fantastic.
I use Astro, just do a search for this app, very easy once installed.

I managed to get in while the beta was still open so I was just trying to link you to the topic that seemed most relevant to your ask.

You can always use adb to install if you are hooked up to a pc...

Swype for the Desire - Just get it.
Sorry if this is an old thread, but just cottened on to swype thanks to the Mobile Buzz widget informing me. I'm new to Android and only had my Desire 2 months.
It is app nirvana! I'm running the beta now (1.56.30), and I must say, when it runs out and I have revert back to the stock keyboard and tapping away, I'm gonna cry. It works so well. Has increased my typing speed at least 3-fold. (HTC Desire with stock 2.1 ROM).
The only thing I'd like to re-enforce that was covered in another post, is that it's not made very clear by the developers how to start using it! After installation, get to an input screen and do a long press, and select the 'input method' option and check the swype box. It will stick with your stock keyboard if you do not do this.
Will happily pay/donate for this when the full release comes out, and will be very surprised if this does not become the standard implementation for touch screen typing very soon. The swype keyboard also works well with the tradtional tapping method should you want to type something unlikely to be in it's database, so why not?
Very very impressed with it so far.
Edit: Noticed a slight weakness. Not sure if this is fair, but it is not so useful if you are using the phone in landscape mode. It works to a degree, but you have to stick with one finger per word/swype. Not easy if your thumbs are not up to reaching across your keyboard in landscape. Can be uncomfortable. Recommend sticking with fingers instead of thumbs! But for one-handed, portrait typing this is still the daddy.
the new beta version, what is the full version number? 1.56.30......., I already have a modded version 1.56.30.7625.t100 installed. also how long on average does beta version expire? After requesting for an invite ages ago, I finally got an email from them to use their beta. is it worth installing it??
I am having a couple issues with the official Beta of Swype on the Leaked 2.2 ROM. According to a browse through the Swype forums it looks like Swype does have issues on 2.2 in general. Hopefully we can get an updated version that isn't so buggy.
1. Swype has stopped functioning randomly several times. Can use as regular keyboard. - Attempted clearing temporary data (cache) but didn't fix. Ended up re-installing it to get it working again.
2. Occasionally the default keyboard just sets itself back to the HTC/Android and I have to re-set Swype as my input method.
Anyone else having these issues? This will also be posted on the official Swype Beta forums as soon as I figure out how to post there.
1st: didn't work using Titanium backup, I had to uninstall, and reinstall from scratch
2nd: I couldn't get it to swype into the URL bar of internet, however without doing anything else it worked in another app just fine...
So, there's some "things" going on for sure.
Same
I agree my Swype doesn't work on Froyo. This sucks. I'm forced to use swiftkey...which isn't that bad.
I don't recall where I saw the thread, but apparently Swype has responded. They said a reinstall isn't necessary, just switch to the stock keyboard and back to Swype. I haven't tried it yet, but figured I'd pass along the information.
http://swype.uservoice.com/forums/1...-be-reinstalled-every-time-i-reboot?ref=title
That works, however not forever. It eventually stops working again. I've had to "hold" on the input box to get the popup to switch input methods a couple of times now. Each time it has fixed swype for a little while.
nevermind, still seems to be buggy on 2.2
After updating to FRG83D I'm unable to get swype working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but I still keep getting the same problem. Even though it's installed and selected as my keyboard under settings, only the stock keyboard shows up... I even updated swype to the newest version that came out yesterday I believe and same problem still. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not really help, but as a point of reference I am running FRG83D and the new Swype Beta is working on my phone.
I'm running Geo's ROM.
Since the previous update Swype has run slowly on my phone. The latest update doesn't fix it so I will probably go back to the HTC IME.
Not sure if this will help but i find the same thing no matter how many times i restore my device or load a custom ROM.
try selecting Swype keyboard in an individual app (obviously you need to have it set as the default keyboard in settings as well)
simply open an app (text message, email, etc) then hold down on the text box to get the edit text options pop-up and one of the options should be 'inout method' then simple select swype.
i think this is a bug....from my guess, they are just too swamped to fix some simple things.
Hmmm....i got my swype from 4shared.com and always worked.its a lil buggy on my N1 once in awhile but still running it fine though.btw my N1 is stock.

I had a similar problem, go to the Swype Installer and select "get a license"
All you have to do is deactivate swype and it makes one automatically

This was actually my problem lol. I stumbled upon this solution on my own by accident. Thanks guys!
The Swype Beta is open. You may want to register.
Why s15274n?
Because some of the roms are removing swype and includig the swype installer instead.
Why do that you ask?
Because it allows you to have the most updated version of Swype at all times, and you can choose from the smaller/larger language packs.
I was familiar with the beta as I used it on my Nexus One. I didn't feel a need to use the beta though as it's pre-installed on the Vibrant.
I used the installer included in Trigger V2.0.1 (an AMAZING ROM FYI.. more on that later in another thread/video)... I am on Swype version 2.17.59.15552.t100. Not sure what you are using, or what version is stock, but I have to say I've never been happier with Swye. You also may notice a difference.
Because of this, and the potential for the beta to close, I would encourage you guys to register while you can.
Very easy process.
Go to the SWYPE BETA page and follow their instruction. Post if you have Q's.
IMPORTANT POINTS
If your ROM includes the Swype Installer (like Trigger) you will not need to download the Installer (obviously).
If you are stock, or if your rom includes swype you would need to completely remove swype from your phone before you could download and use the installer.
You can just register and do nothing if you do not want to.... just plan for the future if you think this may be of interest to you. Again, who knows how long the beta will be open.
Thanks for the heads up.............
yeah i was surprised by why devs didn't include the new swype before...
I've always used it.
it looks better
it works better
and it feels better.
its just quicker and the words work better than before.
it learns even quicker.
and the whole keyboard is a little bit more bigger for finger space.
Note: deleting the old swype from your device requires you to delete libswypecore.so (I think) from your system/lib folder and then removing the apk in system followed by a reboot. Only then will you be able to install the beta.

Anyone having issues with the auto caps? seems to be somewhat inconsistent.
did they fix the issue of the popup after choosing a word that was not the top choice in the list?
^ I don't think I've ever had that... This version does seema lot more accurate.
Anybody have the installer/uninstaller for swype available other than through the rom?
Bump, wanted you all to know there was an update... if you have the installer, just open it and you will get the newest Swype. Here is the changelog.. pretty significant.
ALL BUILDS - SWYPE BETA v2.29.71.20203/20186
Announcing BETA support for the following resolutions: qHD, QVGA, WQVGA, WSVGA
Added Dutch, Russian and UK English support [NOTE: Not all devices support all languages. For a table of which screen-sizes support which languages, please click here.]
The Hidden Word Tip window will only appear once, the first time you encounter a hidden word after a new installation. It will never appear again after that.
Contacts, etc, that are automatically added to the user dictionary will now stay deleted when removed by the user
Fixed the gesture to hide the keyboard: Swype from the SWYPE key to the DELETE key
The capitalization gesture will no longer accidentally capitalize the second letter of a word when the trace path goes through that key before exiting the top of the keyboard
Add compression of large languages for Android builds to reduce filesize
Identified and resolved an issue that was causing cumulative loss in recognition accuracy over time
Faster trace path animations
Improved application performance in portrait view
Improved the efficiency of the contact list scanner
Swype key in Spanish now properly brings up Word Choice Window
Fixed a bug with word priorities so words in user dictionary do not always appear first in word choice window
Fixed a bug that prevented the auto-space suppression icon from appearing in some cases
Period and Comma now function properly when tapped in SYM layer
Improved recognition of words when using the capitalization gesture and the second letter is very close the exit-point of the capitalization gesture, e.g. "Well"
Fixed a rare crash when returning from the Language Selector in Settings
Launching voice recognition now draws a UI inside the Swype process instead of launching a new activity
When Android 2.3.3 is detected, double-tap-to-edit is disabled to prevent conflict with Google's double-tap behavior
Decreased the likelihood that a new license will be required after a system update
Fixed a bug where a failure of the system to properly return build properties was crashing Swype
Extended the beta license from 100 days to 120 days after compile
Minor compatibility updates for Android 2.3
Fixed various crashes

first remove swype via titanium
then you need to go and use root explorer (or something similar) and remove any files in /system/lib that have the word swype in it... I forgot the exact ones.
reboot. and then you should be able to install swype beta.
Anyone experience Swype not swyping? I uninstalled Swype and Swype Installer, then followed the steps to get the beta installed. It worked, but I could only type on the new swype keyboard. Swyping wasn't working. Fortunately, I saved a copy of my previous swype.apk to my external sd, and reinstalling that fixed the issue.
Edit: 3rd uninstall and reinstall got beta working.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
I did sign up for the beta, downloaded the installer, and as expected for someone running Bionix 1.3.1. it told me to uninstall swype... so I did uninstall swype through titanium backup, deleted all files with the word "swype" from system/lib (I looked through the whole thing and only found the libswypecore.so or what have you there, so I deleted it with root explorer) but while the installer I downloaded does go further, and looks like it's gonna work, ends up giving me the "application not installed" message.
Any ideas?
Hah, a simple reboot after uninstalling/deleting the files worked just fine. Latest swype up and running!
Mmkay unusual problem...
Im trying to uodate.. But theres a few steps..
Select another keyboard.
Done.
Disable swype.
Thats whre im stuck there is no check mark next to swype so i csn disable it... None at all.
Help
So I installed MAGLDR 1.13 and installed DFT_Android on my phone. Everything is working perfectly. The only thing that I have noticed so far that doesn't work is the Swype keyboard. There is no option to turn it on. It's like it doesn't exist. Am I missing something?
P.S Could of swore I installed Gingerbread 2.3 on my phone, but it says I am running 2.2 and certain programs on my phone recognize the phone as a HTC Desire instead of a HTC HD2 which is no biggy. Everything still works fine so far.
P.S.S This isn't a SD install either. It's running off the phone. When I boot the phone there is no more WM6.5 It boots straight to Android.
Just have a look in Settings->Keyboard & Language settings.
Swype should be enabled here.
After that hold your finger on a textfield and choose "Select input method" and then click on swype.
The swype keyboard should be set now.
as for your Swype keyboard problem, how did you install it? are you in the beta testing group or did you use a swype.apk? if you used the apk, you need to goto settings/language and keyboards, click on swype. exit out and goto any text input function and hold on the text box til a box pops up select input method and pick swype. if you are a beta tester, you should have downloaded the installer which should have walked you through the install and settings. if you have done all of this and still wont work, try un-installing swype, reboot phone and start over. good luck
When i got my invite for swype and downloaded it, it kept force closing when i tried to set it as my input method and wanted to type something. Ive seen a lot of people talking about swype not working on their HD2, and i dont know what the problem is.
Swype definitely works on HD2. It worked for me in an older ROM i had (don't remember which of the 100 i had )
