Get media player to only find real MP3 music? Not system sounds? - HD2 General

Hello!
How in the world can you designate the media player to only find and list ACTUAL songs? I can't seem to point it to only my music folder... it wants to update the library with ALL audio on the phone and memory card... I keep getting system and GPS navigation sounds "turn left", "in a quarter mile" randomly playing in between songs... so annoying..
Any help is appreciated!

sad 2 say its a defect n the well thot out planz.... i use wmp n find my folder n press play... voila

We got this one licked
There's a way around this, and it's fairly simple...
First, it's happening because the "program files" folder on the SD card was never marked as "hidden" from the factory, like the one on the phone is...so any sound files that get placed there from program installs are getting indexed by the music tab.
Just use Total Commander (if you don't have it already, it's darn well time you got it), and navigate to the SD card contents, tap+press the program files folder, then select "properties" from the menu. You'll see the check box for "hidden", check that, then click ok, and soft-reset. When sense comes back up, go to your music tab, wait for it to re-index, and you should no longer see all those unwanted audio files

TF3D Music Player- Help its killing me!!!!!!!

I am having a nightmare with this hunk of brown steaming excretia!!!!! Firstly you have to load songs through Media player-WHY!!!!! What was wrong with dragging and dropping it onto the memory card like I used to do with my Touch.
Second Having waited whilst windows makes me grow older loading toons on the card, having play ok for a week, its just decided it will only play the first 2 seconds of a song any song then lock up!!! It lets me see all my songs, artists, albums, artwork, everything but the bl00dy tease wont let me play em. Worst of all the windows media player on the phone plays it all fine!!!!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can drag and drop the files
thats the way i do it and i usually play via tf3d , but iv never had a problem of the music stopping
Do you keep your mp3s in a particular file on the sd card and do you "treat" them in any way album art tag edit etc? Cheers for the answer, this is driving me mad!
I drag and drop directly into the storage card. I avoid WMP when possible - it seems to take forever.
The only problem with drag and drop approach is that sometimes TF3D does not seem to see the update. So, you might have to stop TF3D and restart it - this forces the music player to rescann available files.
How do you stop Tf3d, and how long does your HD take to update the list when you restart it?
even though i use tf3d when i start the music player i always go in library option then choose my music through that
I created a folder on my SD called Music and dragged albums to it. Play them via TF3D and point the library at the SD. It scans the entire card to find the music. then lists them. Only problem I had is when I removed some music from the SD and they still appeared in the TF3D.Resolved it by finding the library file, deleting it and then rescanning card........
Don't bother with the WMP
quick questions for the pro here.... how can i have only one folder showing off my storage card. for example i hate having it scan all of the card, and having ringtones mixed in there.... i wish i could have music and ring tones separate how ever only full songs on the player

This is not something I do often but in the settings, personal, today you can deselect TF3D and then reselect it.
It seems that TF3D does not have a special "scan" button so the best way is to stop and restart TF3D. I have also Pocket Tunes and Pocket Player - both have scan options. But, I generally use TF3D.

Been looking for a way around this myself and I'm still yet to find anything. All my ringtones & music files all appear together which is annoying
Cheers to all the guys who answered the original question
Stopped using media player, wow what a relief.
Got a new problem now though After spending a night finding and adding album art, I loaded the mp3s, stopped and started TF3D, cool it saw the mp3s fine. Not so cool, it has "stuck on one of the album pics and wont move!!! the song changes, the title changes but the picture stays the same!!!
marmin you are not alone. I have the same problems with tf3d player and its almost killing me.
my k800i was perfect in this disciplin.
1.
I copied all my mp3s on my sd card (no activesync). I have 4 songs with different integrated covers and my player shows all the time the same cover.
2.
The other frustrating thing is the thing with ringtones. Somebody already mention it. I just want to say tf3D: "hey only scan this folder. the rest is none of your business. nothing else." but it scans all the time my whole device including ringtones.
Here is the file I deleted prior to a rescan (as mentioned in my previous post) .......
My Device\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng
although you could just rename it so you can change it back again if a problem arises.....
When I scanned afterward it recreated the entire music database from my SD including the assoication for image files to their respective albums.

i haven't tried this idea, but I think it would certainly be worth investigating (I'd check it for you guys but a bit busy till the weekend arrives). But for those that know how to edit the registry (really simple), try and add a new key to the respective TF3D music player folder called "Ignore". In the new key, add a 'string value' for your descritption (name of folder would do nicely). More importantly, set the "Data" to the full path of the folder to be ignored (something like "Storage Card\Ringtones"). I think this might work as it works with the TF3D album (forces it to ignore the folders which you tell it to and all its sub-folders). Please let me know if you try this and if it works or not (if no one tries it I'll try to give it a go over the weekend)
Good Luck (and hope it works)
Album art in the TF3D music player.
I am having those issues too. My problems started when I embedded the art into the MP3's. It not only hangs on the art, it also will only play about 2- seconds of the song before stopping. I can play the songs fine with the Windows media player though, so I had to put it on the programs tab so I could get to it easy.
Anothr thing about the HTC player, is it doesn't seem to go into sub folders very well, where the Windows player does. But like you said, it picks up on EVERYTHING, and that's extremely annoying.
Thought I'd give a shout out to S2P, a great freeware music player, which some of you will know of but other's might not:

As others have said, Nitrogen and Pocket Player are also great players

HELP with the music tab on hd2

my music tab takes 15 seconds to load up and its the only tab that lags like for example when i am going on the library tab it lags and when scrolling up and down through the music list it also lags. i dont know if maybey its because all my song where formatted by itunes before i draged them to the phone or is it that i have too many songs (400). but the funny thing is that i had all these song on my tp2 and it worked fine. if someone could please help me or suggest something maybey a registry tweak might help i don't know help please
thanks in advance
Are your songs set up as one giant playlist, or are they in albums? I've read elsewhere that large playlists take forever to load, so maybe they somehow got interpreted as such when they were synced over from Itunes?
i just took them from the folder that itunes stores all my songs and dragged them to my sd card and made a for it but most of these songs were converted by itunes. and they are all in different albums not playlist
doesnt itunes have all tracks in one folder? If that is the case then that is probably your problem.
Most people recommend a folder structure something like
music/artist/album/tracks.mp3
Also, some people have have found that it could be caused by one or two tracks with bad tags.
Try clearing your music folder, then drag it back across a few dozen at a time, then you can maybe spot when it starts to go funny, and examine the selected mp3's more closely.
Use windows media player to sync across music,
Then create a shortcut to the following in the \windows\startup folder
audiomanager.exe
Its in the windows folder.. (need total commander or something similar..)
That way the music program resides in memory on start up and seriously reduces the time as you don't have towait for it to load each time... i have 3.5 Gig of music and my music tab is operational after 1-3 seconds.....
i create this shortcut in the phone windows folder? and were do i get audiomanager exe from?
sry im a noob to this...

Hide Certain Music Files

Hey i have downloaded the Gps Navi/Cop Tracker app "Waze V. 1.8" and I think once this app catches on and there are more users it will be a fantastic application.. especially with future releases making it run smoother...
This is a turn by turn navi, so basically it saved all the "sounds" from that app onto my storage card... Unfortunately this makes the sounds show up in my Sense Music player... This is something that i simply cannot allow...
My question is there a way where i can make all those music files hidden?? so that they don't show up in the music player anymore?? i remember i did something along those lines with a wallpaper picture... i had to use a registry editor and i changed the properties of that photo to hidden.. and then it didn't show up on my albums anymore.. Has anyone sucessfully done what i am talking about?? or am i the only person who downloaded waze... or i'm the only person that has an issue with the app sounds showing up in my music folder... and i honestly don't want to make a playlist either and not include the sounds...i have one library of music.. and i play all of them.. no playlists.. ever...
sp yea.. i'm sure you guys by now, get a handle on what i'm talking about and what i'm seeking to accomplish.. so any help would be greatly appreciated... any tips, suggestions or workarounds.. thanks guys
+1 on that, Music Player lists all my Ringtones which I don't want to be listed there.
Your post has just made me realize where all those mp3's have come from.
Having recently installed Waze, I hadn't noticed them until I installed the recent HTC Music Player update and assumed that had caused all the unwanted files to show up in the player.
Having looked a little closer at the offending files, they are definitely from the Waze install.
I have co-pilot installed on my SD card but none of it's sound files show up in the music player. I'm assuming they are also mp3's and if so how do they remain hidden and the Waze files are not??

Good to hear you are now sorted.
Oddly I didn't need to soft reset, but as long as you get the end result it's all good

I tried this method after installing the HTC Music update, but now it takes over 30 seconds for music to open and show the now playing screen with the album covers.
For the first three times i tried to open Music, I kept getting a "filesys.exe" error, tried to send the error report and the phone froze (like it always does when I try to send any report) so i had to soft reset about 4 times in a row.
Now it plays but is really slow and laggy.
None of this happened when i had all my tunes as individual tracks, no folders! All i wanted to do was get rid of the Waze sounds files and now i can't even play any music!!
OS Version 5.2.21869
Manila 2.5.19211619.0
ROM 1.66.405.2
Radio2.06.51.07
Protocol 15.30.50.07U
Did hiding the folder affect the voice turn by turn? Waze especially?
Edit: I did my own testing. Hiding the sounds folder in Waze did not affect voice turn by turn so if you have Waze, go ahead and hide those annoying sounds which appears in the music folder.
For the ringtones, if you don't have many, I suggest putting them in \Windows\Rings and for alerts put them in \Windows. This is because the music player sees the tones if you put them in \My Documents\My Ringtones (and as the previous poster found out, hiding them makes them inaccessible to all programs.
I tried hiding a folder I had on my storage card that contained my ringtones: whilst it hid them from the music player (once it rescanned), it also meant that the phone was unable to see the ringtones and thus failed to list them in the ringtone lists.
I gave up trying to find a registry setting for it and just changed the ID3 tags for all ringtones to say that they were by an artist called 'ringtone' in an album called 'ringtone'.
Contacting HTC Support suggested I create a playlist with all the songs I want in it -___-

same problem here, I need them as ringtones so hiding them is not an option
btw how can I add the music player to my startup list so it scans for the music when the phone starts? I can't remember the name of the file that was doing that, read it here somewhere but can't find it anymore :/

Only show my own music?

I have searched everywhere, but I know this has to have been listed before.
I have about 4gb of music I'm syncing from my PC, but when I pull up music on phone (no playlist) I see all the music on my device AND the music I synced.
I want to ONLY see the music I add. For photos, there was a reg key I added to set which folders were ignored. Is there a way to do that for music as well?
Ur Own Music
zim 2323 - this drove me cRaZy for a couple of weeks until I downloaded OMarket and got "Nitrogen".
I can click and drag my music from my PC instead of having to sync (if you have already d/l double twist - get rid of it - more pain than it's worth) and the system music files are omitted in Nitrogen.
I did the same thing and it ONLY shows the music I added?! I am having trouble understanding what you are trying to do?! I dont have music on the phone and it only pools what I have on my storage card. When i first loaded music it said it was searching for music and it found everthing I added.

Hey Zim Yes, I think there's a regedit method for this, but the way I do it is to just figure out which folders I need to exclude and then navigate to them in Total Commander, long-press, and choose "properties"...you can then choose to hide the folder just like in regular windows. For me, it turned out that just hiding the "program files" folder on the SD card was enough, but I'm sure you can handle it if there's more you need to hide.
Unfortunately I can't hide program files on the sd card because I have to see the folder for software I use/install.
I also do not want to use 3rd party media players. I want to load music and play natively in sense.
When I goto music TAB it finds every MP3 on ROM nad SD memory. I only want to see music located in \storage card\my documents\music.

No folder that I've hidden this way seems to be invisibile to me or the sys...they still show up in file explorer, and are still directly accessible by apps etc, they just don't get indexed.

Weird problem with music player

Havin a real weird problem with my music player, need some help.
I've put my ringtones and notifications in all the different locations that the media player is supposed to ignore, though not all at the same time
/sdcard/ringtones
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
/sdcard/sd/ringtones
/sdcard/sd/media/ringtones
etc, same for notifications
No matter where I place them, though the media player still is picking them up. I would put a .nomedia in the folder, but prevents them from showing in the ringtone/notification lists in Settings.
Is there any way to stop this from happening? I first noticed this behavior after rooting, but would just installing SU and busybox really cause music player to read these folders that are supposedly hidden to it?
This is driving me nuts when I'm listening to music and suddenly my ringtone starts playing and I think I'm getting a call!
Thanks.

this problem has been driving me nuts too. but you putting it into words just gave me an idea, try the no media thing, so it prevents them from showing up in the settings lists, but then try going "oldschool" (lol) and using rings extended from the market. it was an app first released for the g1 to see and select ringtones on the sd card that the settings lists weren't picking up.
00000
where exactly did you put the .nomedia? and what kind of file was it? or was it the name of a file or folder?
i'm down to help figure this one out ucz this music player is starting to piss me off with it's badass look yet completely lacking in options.
ps: another good feature of the stock android music player was that if you hit the context menu while a song was playing, it had a "delete" option. this was great for someone like me who dumped tons of new music i just wanted to have on the phone, and when i party shuffled, i could be like, "WTF is this unworthy for mobile listening sh!t? *delete". haha miss that option so...
yep...this is bugging me too...i just download a game and all the SFX shows on my albums list...and the ringtones that i have download from zedge...however a easy solution for me is was creating playlists...i really like this phone and it getting better and better...specially now that i found out that there's a equalizer in the music player...excellent.
Hopefully there will be solutions for this little bugs...i'm still keeping my phone the way it is.
Playlists works too, except I have like 3gb of music on my card, it takes a long time to go through and individually add all the songs to a playlist.
I found out that the music player ignores .mid files, so I just renamed all my .mp3 files to .mid. Phone still picks them up for use as ringtones/notifications.
I tried both a .nomedia file (just create a new file on your computer named whatever.nomedia, copy it to your phone and use Astro or Files to rename it to .nomedia) and naming the folder .media, but in both cases none of the ringtone files showed up in the ringtones list.
