What type of video does it have to be in order to work on the htc hd2?

some of my videos i put on my phone didnt work so im wonder what kind of formats work on this phone?

well alot of formats work. It all depends on what program you are using to play them with.

HD2 media player

Looking for a favour ASAP please guys (i.e, before I go to work :-D). I want to be able to transfer .avi files onto my phone and play them, and after searching around, installing stuff (such as Coreplayer & TCPMP), I've decided that they don't support .avi's, OR I've just downloaded the wrong .cab for my HD2.
Can anyone provide me with a link to a good-.avi-playing media player for my HD2 pretty please?
If it matters I'm just using the bog-standard 1.43 ROM at the moment.

core supports avi...actually it supports mkv and ogm as well
there is a limit of size
if the file is above the normal 855x485 limitation that will cause problems and you will only hear sound and no video. But core supports those file types
heck I love watching my noir ogm. Try to go to options and ensure you have chain's graphic driver and 100% smooth...it'll make a difference

So why do I get 'Unknown file type' errors when trying to play .avi files? Both TCPMP and Core

Any answers quickly please?? Hate to be pushy, but I've got just under an hour.

Just two quick suggestions:
1) Do the files work on your PC?
2) Your phone is unplugged from your PC when you try to play?
3) Have you tried loading the .avis from within the app rather than just clicking on them in File Explorer?

Yes, to all 3 questions mate. Is there a codec pack or something for the HD2? As a very select few play OK, yet most don't, but they are all .avi, makes me wonder if it's a codec problem.

That's weird. I can play .avi files with that version of TCPMP.

Copied straight over, or do you convert them first?

I copied straight to my storage card. What's the resolution of the video? Try playing different .avi video, i.e different size, different resolution , and see if it works?

MT3G wont play Videos

I'm a newbie to my Android phone, I am in the Caribbean so I have no access to the market on my phone, i had to trick it to get apps on it at first because it would not see the content of the SD card because i could not download the File Manager.
I noticed I could not play videos so after getting the file manager I decided to download a video player and hoped that would solve the problem, well all it does is play the audio of the movie and my screen remains dark and blank, what am i doing wrong guys? and if its the software that's the problem where can i download a good video player for free that will work?

I'm guessing you're unrooted, correct?
For the videos (which I assume you're playing off the sdcard) did they ever work? If they didn't it's going to be because they're using a codec your phone doesn't support (probably divx, xvid, although I doubt the avi container would show up in many video apps), so you'll need to convert them or find a player that does support them.

Can you record video with your camera/camcorder app and then play them back?
If so then you can play video just fine and it's just a codec issue.
If not then it sounds like an app or rom issue.

Yes Binary you are indeed correct, it was a codec issue, i can indeed play videos my camera records plus i downloaded an mp4 from online after i posted my complaint here and it played just fine on my MT3G, the problem was i converted the movies to play on my phone with "Allok 3GP PSP MP4 iPod Video Converter" but for some reason it seemed to mess up the mp4 format because it wont play on my phone but it plays back fine on my computeri even redid them in 3GP and my phone still didnt play them, I downloaded another converter and the movies are indeed playing just fine. thanks again for your speedy response

Anyone using XMedia Recode>?

So, I have been using this program for my HTC HD2 movie rips.
Worked perfectly up until recently.
I saw there was an update so did so.
When ripping the movie it was creating this HUGE file.
I decided to go back to the previous version.
Now when i try and rip I get "Error -2401: an invalid sample descriptio​n was found in the movie."
The movie will not play on the computer nor will it play on the phone.
It seems this may be an audio issue from the research i have done, but I cannot find the settings on Xmedia Recode that work now and I do not know why it would simply stop working properly.
Anyone?

Try coreplayer it works with a lot of formats. Go to www.download.com they have a lot of PC video converters. Sorry if I couldn't answer that issue your having.

I appreciate the response, but yeah...that wasn't quite what I am looking for.
The error seems to be some sort of audio mismatch though some have remedied it by changin ght extension of the file from mp4 to 3gp...this did not work for me either (and would not translate on the phone.
I have other programs that work, but Xmedia player worked flawlessly up until now!

[Q] Clear.Fi - I don't get something.

We all know that the A500 can't play most regular video formats such as DiVX and so on natively, so can anyone explain to me how come the Clear.Fi app is able to read these files well enough to generate thumbnails of them, but fails when I try to play them?
It doesn't make sense to me... How can it make a thumbnail of a random frame from the video if it can't read the encoding?
Yes, I know I can use Moboplayer to play back, and I do... Just trying to work out how Clear.Fi can make thumbnails of files it can't play.

I was just wondering the exact same thing today, any ideas anyone?
