Green Dial BUTTON Not working on Mogul - HELP!!!!

Hey everyone...
My Sprint Mogul is screwed up -
I am having a problem with my green dial button. It just does not want to work anymore. I have to hold it down and push and push and then it "might" work.
I cant even answer calls with the green button anymore. I am running the DCD 3.01 and the Sprint 3.35 radio
It was working fine about a day ago.
Is this hardware? If yes will sprint replace it? I do not have insurance or any additional plans but i got my phone 5 months ago so it is still under warranty.
By the way, Sprint said that they do not do replacements. They said call HTC. So I called HTC and they dont do replacements for CDMA phones either and said call Sprint. So I called Sprint again and they said we dont do replacements if you dont have insurance...what the HELL!!!! What do i do?
HELP ME!
Okay, how long have you had the phone? If shorter than 90 days, that should be covered under some legally mandated warranty of some sort in your jurisdiction, either way, contact consumerist (www.consumerist.com) and they should be able to provide you a means of what to do, but that's really a hardware problem.
I have the same exact problem and it seems like it slowly died -- it didn't happen overnight. It kept getting harder and harder to press until finally it died.
I went to a sprint repair store and the woman told me it would cost $70 to replace it. Then she told me if I went through HTC it would be free because it's under warranty, but I would have to wait longer to get it repaired. I call HTC and was told that HTC does not cover the Mogul and I would have to go through sprint. Complete bull****.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=18379
See Post 12 (My experience with this issue).
My green phone button had the same problem. My post in PPCGeeks is copied below.
Edit ( 3/14/08 ):
I went to the nearest Sprint Store the other day. It wasn't a 3rd party store, it was an actual Sprint Store, but they said they don't do repairs there. Was told to go to the CORPORATE REPAIR Sprint store. Ok ... so I went today. They told me it would take about 30 minutes, so I dropped it off and went next door to Fry's to pick up a new MicroSD card. When I got back to the store they said they would just swap it out with a new phone. I thought they were going to give me new chargers and everything but the Sprint Rep said they need to keep the box, and accessories, to ship back with the old phone. Oh well, brand new Mogul with no scratches. (I had dropped my old one a couple times). I did have insurance but that never seemed to be an issue because the Sprint Rep told me it was covered under warranty.
Hopefully I get the same treatment as you. I had a technical service rep make note in my account to swap my phone out. Just have to find the time to make it out there.
I'll post an update.
Just flash the official ROM back and go to the Sprint store. You do have the insurance don't you? If they say they can't fix it and it isn't water damaged or anything they'll give you another one.
**Edit - lol, I didn't read all of ur post, you don't have insurance. Wow! How do you have a phone worth more than $400 to replace and no insurance? Yeeks!! Oh well, so much for that plan.
I am having the same issue with my 6800 on alltel. I think i read somewheer that this had to do with the overheating issue? Either way I called alltel tech and it took them about 30 seconds before they told me they would ship me a new one. So i have a new one coming in the mail. Its just the promptness of their exchange makes me think this is a common issue. BTW, I love alltel.

I got the same run around. Finally found out the UT Starcomm (spelling???) does the repairs for Sprint for the CDMA versions of HTC.
The number to call them is 1 800 229 1235.
I was told by Sprint that handle all warranty repairs/returns etc for HTC Sprint Phones.
I had the same prob with my first mogul - it's a hardware thing. The button isn't pressing the contact hard enough.
If you can't get anywhere with Sprint or HTC - you can do what I did.
Open it up. Fight your way all the way till you can get in back of the CALL button. Take your time - you pretty much have to take the entire thing apart to get to it. Once you have it apart, I took a business card and cut a tiny piece, and crazy glued it in between the back of the CALL button, and the contact.
Worked perfectly after I got it back together.
Take your time if you do this - the phone is tricky to take apart.

Thanks a million, Arifiano! That's a god's end!
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/Support.aspx
So I called UTSTarcom.
And what they told me really blows!!!!
You have to mail in your phone to them. They will diagnose and repair if at all possible and then send it back within 2 weeks. So the turnaround time is 2 weeks!!!!
So what does one do without a phone for two weeks. I mean I certainly can say that my life will come to a halt...

did you send your phone to repair, how much it cost?
did you got it back yet?
thank you

would like to know to, i just got a mogul off ebay and the green and red buttons are dead also

Were you satisfied with SE's service after replacing/repairing your X1?

So I've been reading the "let us file a complain to SE..." thread lately cuz well...you guess it...my phone developed a crack.
Anyway, I did see that some people have been getting "reconditioned units" that look worse than the ones they already have.
So, how many of you guys have had problems with the service offered by SE/Authorized dealers?
Really interested in this poll, since I just let my X1 to an authorized center...
However, I must admit that I am really unsatisfied with the repai time: they told me that I have to wait 15 working days! Man, what was the premium price for?!
I sent my phone in Tuesday and they still haven't received the phone even though the service center is 35miles away from here...
Add 3-5 working days to get my phone fixed plus another week to get my phone back...so I think I'm there as well
I got back the same phone after I sent it in for a software glitch that I failed repairing myself. It got back in exactly the same condition and earlier than I had thought.
My X1's screen started blacking out when slid open, so I reluctantly sent it in, having heard a lot about cracked plastics and scratched battery covers.
I got it back in just 3 days, which is apparently unusual even for SE service here. No extra scratches or damage.
Oh, and they didn't notice the Hard-SPL...
Well - i got my replacement through vodafone so it doesnt really count
Reading some of the Dutch Forums (e.g. tweakers.net), the average time is 6 weeks for Netherlands. Some poor guy waited 19 weeks.
http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1326523/20
That's almost HALF A YEAR.
Mine had stylus crack, battery crack, chipped case in three places.
4 weeks since I sent it in, and counting..
OMFG!
How is that possible???
Jeez man...4 weeks? How is it that you haven't killed them already?
If I don't have it by the end of next week I'm gonna drive there myself and have a talk with them...
wow....this is pathetic.
some of the buttons arent working smoothly these days..which means i am screwed if i send it for repair
seems im d only one wit a good story bout this..i got my phone back like 4 days
I sent my x1 to service because left-right buttons plus all other front buttons and touchpad were getting dead.i have to wait 15 min and reset phone 5 or 10 times to get device normal.f*ck sake!i am on contract with my service provider.they said i must wait minimum 2weeks just for answer REPAIR or Change.afterwards i must wait another 2weeks for repair or get new unit.i am gonna have big fight with SE.i am very disapointed.i am not gonna buy any other sony products even sony movies films
I went to a Vodafone store with repair service. Somehow they are authorized to repair phones for warranty. I only had to show my phone, they ordered the parts and they texted me when they received the parts. Then I could wait for it on location while they repaired my phone. I think that's a great service but it's more thanks to Vodafone. I live in the Netherlands, The Hague.

Hmmm, yes, so:
- SE repair service sucks
- Vodafone is great
But I really think that 4weeks is the maxiimum amout of time I would wait for a repair, not just a phone repair but whatever else. Never experienced a repair time longer than 4 weeks, and I would have been really upset hearing about 19 weeks!!!
But what about the repaired phone? Apart from Vodafone people, in ehat condition were your "new" phone? can you be more verbose than the poll?

Hmmm, u were lucky. This is what the Netherlands is like most of the time Mine was out of contract, but the problem is not the shop I went through in Rotterdam - been getting my phones from them for a few years now. I suspect it's the guys in NL who bought the service contract from Sony.

Perfectly repaired, but unfortunately now, a month later, I have 3 cracks. The parts are in so I have to go to the store again. I don't want to go to the store twice every month...
Well,
I brought my phone to an SE Service Center around my Corner. The Display shaked a little. I brought it in on the 7.5.09
Those guys sent the phone to the Xperia guys. Seems that only some people can fix it.
Well, I have not got it back yet. :-(
So I called the Xperia line. The told me, that they did not received it yet...
But the guy was friendly. He is now starting to find my phone. We will see what happens.
Cheers

SONYERICSSON or a Network Provider???
Come on, in order for this poll to have any impact or make any sense, it should include at least WHICH Country and if SE direct or through a Service/Network Provider! Otherwise its just hot air!
I waited 5/6 weeks for my replacement to arrive aftre the sound went completely.
After SE took delivery initially I received an email to let me know it had arrived. Then nothing for a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and so on and so on.
The tracking website was never updated and I never received emails updating me on the progress. I phoned them all the time.
After 5/6 weeks I received a refurbished phone which [TBH] is in better condition than the phone I sent for repair, no consolation really.
Yea...WHAT tracking site? They never even acknowledged the fact that they received it. I had to phone today, to find out they got it on Friday. Even though I ASKED to be informed when they would actually get it...nada.
Anyway, when I talked to the representative and told him I want my phone repaired not replaced (because mine is scratch free and in perfect condition otherwise) he was like..."OH...we'll see what we can do"
People, how hard is to replace a back cover???
But I suppose it's good business taking good scratch free phones and replacing them with "functionally equivalent" but with cosmetic damaged ones...
@michaelthemage
The poll specifies SE Service.
And how many countried would you have included in the poll?
In my opinion, in makes no relevance what country you are in (even though I KNOW there are big differences between SE service centers). SE Service is a global thing, having an international warranty (at least European for me) so in my opinion the quality of their services should be viewed as a whole.
I for one bought my phone in France but since I'm doing an internship in the UK I sent it to Banbury.
So I do think the poll does make sense and I give thanks to all who have voted/will vote and who told me their SE related stories.
I got a global warranty card with my phone but it wasn't much help when my screen died. It is supposed to be a vip service for X1 owners where you can get a replacement phone the same day at any SE service center. Not quite. If you're in a place where they don't sell it, don't expect SE in your home country to send one to the service center you're visiting, they will not, period. And if you look close at the support site there's a somewhat hidden page that shows country by country what is (not-) available.
I shipped it off with fedex to the dealer, who said they will send one in return asap if I paid the courier. It cost me about 100 usd. When they received it, they changed their mind and said they needed the original box and booklets... and they couldn't just replace the phone (ten days since I bought it) and let me send the stuff when I returned home. Cheers...
That said, when I could deliver the box I got a new phone right away from the dealer. SE had no desire to help at all.
I don't like buying phones from operators, rather be free to choose who bills me for the calls, but if the operators service team are better at customer care, I may just do that next time.

[Q] Dead Pixel

I got the MT4G today. I love it till now but I discovered that there is a black dot ( Dead pixel or dust I am not sure) . Can I exchange the phone directly from the T mobile store that I bought it from? Or should I contact them and ask for a new one? How many days does the last option take?
I'd take it back to the store you bought it from. You should have 14 days from date of purchase.
People seem to forget that this is a manufacturer defect which means when u buy a phone atm of purchase u have a 1 year warranty with HTC so even if the 14 days pass u can still take the phone back and show them the defect or u can call customer service which ever works for u. Had the HD2 and exchanged after a month of purchased because of a defect so don't think u only have 14 days to return it
I went to t-mobile and they exchanged in the store.the new one has a clean screen.about the manufacturer defect,i remember few years ago there was an accepted number of dead pixels on laptops screen,i am not sure about the policy for smadi phones or laptops these days.anyway I was only asking because I read that some t-mobile stores don't exchange phones directly and send you to customer care.

Got a replacement refurb phone . Have some ????

I got a replacement phone since the power button on mine decided to sink like Atlantis into the body of the phone . I managed to unroot and set back to stock before sending it back . I kinda forgot to get the pri back to 1.77 since the new one is 1.77 eh whatver LOL . Main question I have is . I was told the phone was gonna be new . Well it is HW 004 but on the invoice said REC (going to assume reconditioned) . So transferred everything over to the phone and fired it up . Typed in the code and pulled up the info on the phones life itself . Heres where it gets interesting . Total life calls made 2 , Data sent and recieved 0 ? , Total time of life calls 1 min . Status reconditioned . It also goes on to say the phone was reconditioned in January of 2011 . With a activation date of 12/2010 . Essentially the phone has no scratches no blemishes nothing wrong with it . Im just curious as to why a refurb phone would have such low statistics . Was it a gift for Christmas that someone didnt want ? They just simply brought it back ? I have no real complaints about the phone just curious what others opinions might be . First time dealing with a phone replacement .
When it was reconditioned they prob reset the meters and made 2 test calls.
just a thought
but the original activation date would still be there, wouldn't it?
Interesting.
When I got my old Hero replaced with a refurb, the life counters were painfully high, even though I had just taken it out of the box..
In theory, December to January would be within someone's 30 day no-questions-asked return window, and supposedly, when they take a phone back it has to be marked reconditioned from that point on. So maybe whoever wanted another phone and returned it? It's possible I guess.
Yeah the original activation date was december of last year . I mean the phone is flawless not a scratch or a nick anywhere . I was just curious as to what others opinions might have been .
How were you able to get that info I am curious myself I also just got a replacement phone
the data life and call life do not get reset when a phone is reconditioned so consider yourself lucky. It was probably a phone that someone got and probably bricked it within 24 hours and took it back. You got yourself a pretty good refurb.

I had a droid x for less then 24 hours before I returned it. Could be some kind of same situation.
Perfectly normal for it to retain the "original" activation date after a recondition.
Great to hear this. I just got off the phone with Sprint who is sending me a replacement for my phone. My power button also sank and there is dirt under the screen. They said it would take a couple of weeks due to it being backordered and that it will most likely be a new device, not a refurb. The representative at the store prior to me calling (tried getting my screen replaced at the store with no luck) said that if I get a replacement it will mos likely be new due to low stocks. He said they set some devices aside from manufacturing for replacements as reconditioned. I believe this is what happened to you. I hope this happens to me too.
I asked the rep on the phone to see about getting me a White EVO (mine is black) and he said he would. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Odd I said the same thing . I had a white one and wasnt really opposed to getting a black one . He said the black ones were on backorder and people were still waiting . I said ok no prob I can still stick with the white one . I asked him if it was gonna be a new Evo and he said yes . Thats why when I got it and it had REC on it I was like WTF ! ? Its probably the same situation a previous poster said . They put these back as reconditioned units when they are infact new . They were probably initially activated then stamped reconditioned for some legal reason or something who knows .

4th replacement for an atrix, AT&T can't get it right

My gf and I both have atrix phones and I'm on my 2nd one. it's been fine so far, it runs ICS etc etc
well, she is on her 3rd one and this one is having problems already
1st one the digitizer stopped working
2nd one speaker wasn't working
3rd one the notification bar keeps disappearing. factory reset does not fix it
I don't want to root her phone or anything so she wants to keep it stock (and she should)
We talked to motorola and they told us to factory reset. told them we did, and they pretty much said do it again... wtf #1
after I told her to call AT&T and they told her the same thing. We told them it was already factory reset once about an hour ago, and they said to take it back to the service center and get a 4th one.... problem is, she can't this week because this was her only day off. (I guess they forget we can't keep going back to the service center because we work) they also suggested when we get the 4th one to play around with it for about an hour at the place so we know it works.... seriously?
3 phones and 2 of them broke within a week (the notification bar happens about 10 mins after starting the phone)
does anyone have any suggestions on this problem we're having? We can go back and get a 4th one, but jeez... 4 phones? I think it's time they give her something else
Thanks for the suggestions everyone
Hmm... it seems like you just have bad luck.
What you could try to do is ask AT&T to give you both new Atrix 2's free of charge.
You can explain how it's not your fault that all of this is happening and that they should value that you are their customer.
It's worth a shot and I think you have a good chance at convincing them to do this. You'll probably need to sign a new 2-year contract though.
I would tell AT&T you are tired of Motorola and the problems with the phones and aske for a Skyrocket to replace them with. Worth a shot if you want to upgrade and get away from Motorola.
Mine was sent once cos digitizer stopped working, then month later I had random reboots even on stock. They send me new one and its fine. I dont mind as long as they offer replacement.

My first Atrix never worked out of the box. Sent in for repair, didn't work. Sent in again, worked for a week, something else broke.
Got a NEW replacement from Motorola after much *****ing and escalating to BBB & executive customer service and have not had any problems yet, except it came with a non-working factory battery that was replaced after two months of being ignored.
I'm hesitant to buy another Motorola because their support team makes it a nightmare to get your phone fixed or replaced.

yep. had 4 Atrix already... the more att replaced my phone, the worse it got.
New atrix -> bluetooth audio stream keeps disconnecting --> Moto said, go get it replaced because it should not do that...
1st replacement -> refurbished... same problem... called Moto again and att service center --> go get it replaced.
2nd replacement -> refurbished... same bluetooth problem, with additional random reboot. i check phone to look at time, press power button -> reboots.... a lot... --> replacement time... but wait... "we cannot replicate the problem" says att service center representative, "thus we cannot replace it"...
me: it is "RANDOM"... they played with it for 5 mins and could not replicate the problem..
att service center representative told me to call att replacement center who said "why wouldn't they replace it? all we're going to do is the same thing they would, which is replace the phone".. att service center: "our policy is, if we cannot replicate problem, we do not replace"
with much frustration, finally got a hold of someone higher up who was willing to replace phone...
3rd replacement coming from so called higher up -> refurbished... status bar disappears... cannot answer calls, bluetooth problems, wrong battery gauge... out of att options... last option, send it in for repairs at Moto... will be getting phone back tomorrow.. will see how phone works... crossed fingers, it would work as it should...
Yeah, the motorola phones boast a lot of features, but even with the motorola razor in the past, I remember disliking it due to unreasonable security restrictions and random bgs.
i have been with att for many years and dealt with alot of **** and like our friend the att rep said its a refurbished device so it had problems before so its bound to again, see i got the atrix with the 99 cent deal and after one with one problem i called moto and att and i got a new atrix to replace my old one, which had a chip in the fingerprint reader and no rubber around the camera lens, call and beg plead and lie it works every time lol take it from someone who has been through 20 phones in 4 years if its the phone they provided you with they will replace it, alos only 3 or 4 out of that 20 i actually broke the rest were refurbs and refurbs of a different make and model, good luck OP you should get it right eventually
It isn't just Motorola. I have had the same problems with HTC, Sony, and Nokia. My son had 4 iphones replaced. It is a refurb problem. Just keep complaining and eventually you might get one that lasts.
i have just received back my phone from motorola... and guess what... FAIL! my phone has not be repaired! they did not input the problem i told them about so all they did was flash the software.
I'd been on the phone with them for a good 3-4 hrs to get my phone replaced/repaired. In order for motorola to "replace" the phone, they need to verify with ATT that the phone had been replaced at least 3 times. They need the Serial no. or IMEI no. of the phones that had been replaced, and they cannot guarantee that I will receive a new phone. problem is, I do not keep the serial numbers/IMEI numbers of the phone I get, so I advice you guys to write it down or something just in case stupid things like this happen
I replaced my atrix 4 times because of a ****ing nice issue. People hear me like im in a tunnel .... garbled and far away. I still don't have it right but I kept it since it fell in water. It works perfectly because I pulled battery immediately but I can't return it because the white dot is now red.

same here. my digitizer went bad, refurb had messed up contacts for sdcard and wouldn't see it. Next refurb the screen was not aligned good, could see light bleed around the edges. I fixed the contacts on the second one and sent the last one back. Oh yea the phone also had the drop bluetooth problem, but that seems to have been fixed after flashing.
About puked when i first turned on the phone on and saw all that att bloat crap on there.
