Does Kaspersky Mobile Security work on the HD2 - HD2 General

Hey All,
Just the quick question in the title, does Kaspersky Mobile Security work on the HD2? Anyone have any problems with it?
Thanks

yes it does.
only warning is remember the code you put in when you're prompted at install.

Thanks rp
Yeah, I saw that post, but thanks for the warning

and if you bank with Barclays and register to bank online you get it for free

Hello,
KMS is not compatible with Navigon MobileNavigator 7.
Poum's.

Made HD2 slooow.
Made my HD2 quite slooow.
Had to hard reset and reinstall backup.
Conclusion: Do a full backup before installing.

yes, it works but i don't tkink that is a good option. also i've tested it and i had problems unninstalling it, it blocked my in/out sms and i had to hardreset it to solve the problem.
normaly you just need the computer antivirus because he check's the CAB files that you will install in the ppc.

I have downloaded the Kaspersky Mobile Security.cab file from the Kaspersky website, which I obtained from the Barclays offer. But when I try and install it just takes me to the today settings screen and nothing happens.
Anyone else have this happen? What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks

I tried it, and uninstalled it.
I won't use anything other than Kaspersky on my PC and laptops.
I tried KMS for a month. It noticeably slowed my HD2 down, and didn't find any adverse activity... I decided I didn't need it.

Jasjar/Universal: Too many bugs ??

I started yesterday working with my new i-mate Jasjar, and, already, I am lost in so many bugs and bad issues.
1- ActiveSync 4 does not support backup/restore of the device. I know this is a "known" issue, but it is a real bad one!
2- Some programs cannot be installed at all, like SPB PocketPlus. On another hand, all task switchers (and program closers) make problems, and end up by soft resetting the device.
3- A big problem: I cannot uninstall any of the programs I installed, whether on the main memory or the storage card, whether by using ActiveSync (from the desktop), or Remove Programs (in Settings) or any third party software, like SKTools!
4- Synchronizing through ActiveSync is not always straight forward. Sometimes the device is not recognized, or, when recognized, synchronize cannot start, or, when it does start, it never ends.
Did any of you experience any of these problems?
Any suggestions, or we have to wait for a ROM upgrade ?
Spb pocketplus may not be supported by wm05?.Perhaps the next release will work though as i'm getting either the wizard or universal so I hope it does!
personally i wouldnt expect software that worked fine on windows 3.1 to work just as fine on xp.
bugs are ok, it makes the patches more anticipated, and of course, with out this kind of feedback sofware houses wouldn't always reveal the issues before software is released.

dude all of these are software (activesync and windows 5 related) none are related to jasjar...the jasjar is the most stable imate device EVER
yes there are issues between the new active sync and windows and firewall and the antivirus that you run but these are Microsofts faults not jasjars...
to answer your questions
1) this is a bummer.. i really wish they had given the option of backing up device..anywyas thats why you have ppc softwares that do backup..the one working on wm5 is sunnysoft backup..
2)most of the softwares lag behind.. wm5 is out but not all software makers have updated their products..NOTE AGAIN THIS IS NOT JASJARS FAULT..its YOURs you can wait 6 more months by then spbsoftware should have a pocketplus that works on wm5
3)dude again old applications like sktools dont work on wm5... if you want you can use pocket mechanic and memmaid ..they work fine.. for task manager i use dinarsoft handy sweitcher..not only its an excellent application but it works on wm5 aswelll...
4)you have your firewall and antivirus software and to blame for this...not jasjar..for me i had to FORMAT my laptop and install activesync before i turned on firewall and installed an antivirus program...only then did active sync work..and its flawless now.. oen word my personal experience trendmicro2002 doesnt work with AS however 2005 version of pcillin works with its personal firewall set to off...
hope i cleared up a few misconceptions for you
Well,
1) That is annoying. I hadn't noticed that, but I'm sure it'll be addressed in future...
2) As zohaer21 says, that's purely because we have the latest, greatest bleeding edge technology, and the software developers have yet to catch up. (In the meantime, HandySwitcher is working perfectly on my device, no bugs, no crashes, just what it's meant to do!)
3) Have you tried installing anything from a .cab file to see if you still have a problem uninstalling? I'd guess ActiveSync is probably your problem...
4) Can't really help there...I'd suggest removing Activesync completely from your PC and installing it again from scratch. Personally I'm not using the bundled version of ActiveSync (4.1?) because I had an old 4.0.??? already but I don't think I've heard of anyone else with that issue yet so I'd assume it's a problem with your PC installation?

no, but you'd expect software that worked on windows 2000 to work on XP. Why compare something with an 11 year gap to something with a 2 year gap?

True, but MS changed WM5 significantly from WM2003, many more changes than Windows 2000 -> Windows XP. The biggest changes were (1) persistent storage and new memory handling and (2) WM5's compatibility with MS Smartphone apps. I am not surprised a good number of apps aren't working.
By the way, SPB's PocketPlus looks like it works with WM5 because they have screen shots on their web site of it running on a Windows Mobile 5 OS. But it may just not be compatible with the JasJar yet.

It does not depend on that gap but on what they did durring that gap. If you do not change structural things, backwards compatibility can last a long time.
Actually the gap between WM2003SE and WM5 is quite large for some software developers. Notably some applications that synchronise databases (TimeTTRacker, Commontime mNotes) have to be rewritten from the ground up, even though we are only talking about a 1 year gap. Microsoft did change some crucial things, even if it does not show at first glance.
sorry, my post came across a bit bolshy. It wasn't intended.
I meant that developers would hope that they wouldn't have to re-write their apps every few years. I like the changes, because it adds more structure and makes it more of a uniform platform, but we've got to hope that they don't change these very often.
It would help if MS supplied the emulators for WM5 free of charge. (I'm yet to find any)
No worries

SPB Pocket Plus version 3 works just fine on an i-Mate JasJar. Older versions of Pocket Plus will not work on WM5 devices of any kind, so upgrade to Version 3 and you can install it on your jasJar. I'm running it on mine.
hey mat1t dont worry about it,
just dont get put deisel in a petrol car, my analogy of the issues

Correct!
It does work under WM5.0 Just make sure you are on version 3
If you are on Version 3 and still refuses to install, copy the CAB file over the device and execute/install from there.

SPB Pocket plus does install and work. I had to do a hard reset after I initially used my Jasjar and everything worked right. Like email accounts etc. What I would like to see is a program like gb tweak that keeps the gprs allways alive. But so for there is nothing out there. NO problems with my JasJar at all.

What is the problem with the AntiVirus software?!?!?

Hi guys,
I have just got my new K-JAM (ROM 1.1.9.3 - 9/16/05, Radio 01.01.10, extROM 1.1.9.104), and I am delighted so far.
I have also read a lot about how to remove the antivirus software from the extended rom, etc. On my device, I didn't have this problem at all. I simply used the "Remove Programs" function to remove the antivirus, Backgammon, and also Skype of I wish.
In any case, the Antivirus was not running on my device even before being uninstalled, because I replied "no" to the request for downloading virus signatures. This has made the antivirus software completely inactive. This sounds to me like an easier solution for removing the antivirus software.
On my device, ClearType works in Landscape too, out of the box, without touching the registry.
Have I got a newer sw version or what?
Hope this helps.
some of the early release did not show the uninstall for the antivirus,
there is a fix for this on the i-mate web site

Which Anti-Virus?

Hi
Anyone any views on whether I should use the bundled anti-virus or stick with AVG?
Cheers
I did not want to use the bundled app.as it was only a trial. Avg works fine. i have not noticed any slowing down as a result.

I use AVG complete with AVG firewall. I cannot find a way to allow USBTool to work with AVG. The solution is straight forward, in that, as you have to disconnect all wireless connections, it does not matter if you temporarily deactivate the firewall, and it seems to reactivate if you put Vista to sleep. The only other thing with AVG is it seems to muck up wi-fi unless you disable 'detect active area'.
Has anyone had a problem with Trend Micro when upgrading to Vista SP1? My Shift was working fine until i did the upgrade, then i had a note to upgrade the Trend Micro (due to a conflict) and from then on i had a lot of problems. The result was that my Shift was totally unable to connect to the internet over wifi or cable. After a roll back to pre-SP1 it works fine again now and i'm not keen to apply SP1 again.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggested solutions?
AVG doesn't sound that great following what i read above? What other Antivirus apps would work well on a resource limited device?

I use NOD32 (from eset). This one works very well on SP1 and doesn't use much resources
I have been using Avast and it seems to work fine on the shift both pre and post SP1. Avast is also free for your personal pc or a home user. You only need to pay for it when it is to used on a business system or system you use for commerical purposes.
AVG may still be slightly better on using less computer resources, but I like the Avast user interface better. Both are many times better than the blotware from norton or mcafee and such.
thanks guys. Is the best thing to...
1. remove Trend
2. install the SP1
3. install Avast or Nod32

Yep, that's the correct order. (Altough it's not a problem to have nod32 installed)
Be aware that Nod32 is not free! (But in my opinion the best)
Thanks. I'm happy to pay for a good solution, especially if it works well on a machine that is short on spare resources... I just don't know which the best solution for this kind of PC is. Why do you like Nod32 so much?

I'm a computer technician and I manage a lot of networks with computers, servers etc.
I tested these programs:
Symantec antivirus
Symantec Norton Antivirus
Mcaffee
AVG (not on business computers )
Kaspersky
Nod32
My advice: Nod32
thanks... always great to get an informed (and tested) opinion

No problem. THis is just the program which is not using much resources.
You only see the splash screen and never asks anything. *unless you have a virus or something *

MAJOR bug driving me mad..

My phone has been running fine for months, yet now all of a sudden whenever I try to launch an office mobile app, be it word, excel or powerpoint I see the title bar at the top of the screen, the main screen freezes on touchflo though - the device remains unresponsive (unless I tap start and goto today again) and the software hangs. It seriously takes a good 4 mins or so to start any office mobile app.
Now a few weeks before, Tomtom was doing the same thing - I simply put that down to it being a GPS app.
So has anyone expeienced this? Can anyone offer any help? I REALLY do not want to hard reset.
Did you installed the hotfix from HTC already, or tried a cooked rom?

I have installed the HTC hotfix and I have the original ROM running.
Its not so much the system freezes, its just any office mobile app takes forever to launch..

But as it was running quite well a while ago, it is a software issue at all. So I would suggest to perform a hard reset (or flash a cooked rom).
I actually fixed this,so will let you know the solution for future use..you will be surprised.
What was causing the major hanging was the fact that on Resco Explorer, in options, I had enabled the device to expose the NETWORK folder to other apps (as I have mapped several network drives through Resco), so on disabling this option, office mobile works just fine now and launches instantly! as does Tomtom now too!

Office Mobile Problem

I recently was forced to hard reset my Wing after installing Pocketbreeze constantly crashed the phone to the point I could not uninstall. I tried installing the program several times before giving up and starting over without it. Afterward, I noticed that Office Mobile was no longer installed. It seems like I've hard reset in the past and this software was still installed. Can anyone confirm this one way or another? Is there any way to get the Office software back? Would I have lost any other useful software from the original load? Any advice would be appreciated. Office Mobile was a pain, but I did use it to view files on occasion.
Also, has anyone else had issues with Pocketbreeze? It looked like a useful piece of software and I'm curious why it wouldn't work. any other good calender/organizer/to-do list softwares you can recommend for the Today Screen?
Thanks,
Justin
