Setting up HD2 as guest with ActiveSync - HD2 General

I want to connect my HD2 to the internet through my pc, so that I don't have to pay charges to my carrier when I donwload stuff. I've read the ActiveSync help and it says:
- Connect your device to the PC. The Sync Setup wizard will start automatically.
-On the first page of the wizard, click Cancel.
However, the wizard only appears the first time I run the program. After a synchronization relationship has been set up, the wizard no longer appears. The only way I found around this is to "Delete Mobile Device" ("File" menu). The relationship is lost and the wizard appears again.
However, this is not practical. Is there any other way to set up my phone as "guest", without deleting the synchronization relationship? BTW, I'm running Windows XP, so I'm stuck with ActiveSync.
Thanks

problem with connection to laptop by ActiveSync, need help!!

hello all,
After the installation of ActiveSync, i insert the usb cable to laptop and put the Xda II on cradle, the ActiveSync in computer couldn't find any device (Xda II) and i can't setup the partnership, however, my Xda II display the "connected" only for 2 seconds and then interrupt for ever, i have installed the ActiveSync many times and hardreset the XdaII, but it is still not connected, what's wrong with this? :?: :?: :?:
When the xda 2 is first plugged into usb you should get a message on your laptop screen saying device found htc etc, once this is done activesync should see it. Which version of activesync are you using?
I tried the ActiveSync 3.7 and ActiveSync 3.8, the results are same. The laptop can find the USB, but the ActiveSync can't find the XdaII.
Idea
I am assuming Active Sync works on other computers?
If you are using XP,
Make sure the device is plugged in.
Open up task manager, (Ctr + Alt + Del), go to processes and end task on WCESMgr.exe and or wcescomm.exe.
Right click on My Computer, select Manage. Expand Device manager, Windows CE USB Devices, right click on PocketPC USB Sync and Uninstall, click Yes.
If you see any devices with an explanation point or marked Red, Uninstall them too.
Unplug your device.
Open up Active Sync, under the settings, make sure USB is checked.
Plug in your device.
I have seen this happen if windows did not configure the device properly at first.
As a thank you for my time, send me naked photos of your wife!!! KIDDING!!!!
Thanks for your help, i have done this by following what you said, but it is still not connected. When the laptop find the Device USB first time, the XDAII just display the "connected" for 1&2 seconds. I click the "Error" on XDAII, which is Synchronize with Server, then it displays:
The connection failed due to mising server information or user credentials. Tap Options, and then the Server tab to verify that your server name is correct. Then, tap'Optaions..." to verrify that your user credentials are correct and try again.
I haven't changed ther Server Synchronization in "Option", and my laptop doesn't need any user name and password to logon.
What's wrong with this? How to set up the "Option" in XDAII?
DUDE!!!
It is hella confusing.. BUT... You do not use the Server setting.
I use the Server setting but I have my own Exchange server 2003 and using Exchange Server 2003 Mobile Services, I have my Contacts, Calendar and Inbox always up to date via the Internet, (I have unlimited Internet through T-Mobile for $19 a month).
You need only to use the PC synchronization. Open Active sync, Tools, Options, Options again and check to make sure it is checked and USB is selected, OK, make sure the other two are "Ticked" as well, OK.. Then try.
This Time I only want naked photos of your DOG!!!
There should be some problems with laptop, because everthing is ok when i connect my XDA with other PCs. I can't find what problem is with my laptop. It is running Windows XP professional edition.
Darge, this isnt going to sound very logical, but if you have more than one usb port, please try the other port, I have had similar problems with activesync whic have been resolved by doing this, dont ask me why because i dont know.
May be should try othe type of connection other than USB. Try using either bluetooth or wifi. May be you should search in the forum regarding connection using bluetooth or wifi.
My Xda and laptop are connected and working very well after i reinstalled the Windows XP for my laptop. It was the stupid and only way what i could do, because i have tried all kinds of solutions which were not useful.
Thanks a lot for your advice and help anyway. 8)

ActiveSync USB Fix for Q9100/HTC Wizard

Some of your posts helped me flush out this problem, so I thought I'd share my find.
Problem: ActiveSync USB does not connect to Qtek9100/HTC Wizard OR connects but never syncs
Solution(s):
1. Uninstall/reboot/reinstall ActiveSync 4.x
2. Hard reset your mobile device
3. Configure your PC firewall correctly, see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
4. When you connect to your USB, go to Network Settings on PC
5. Find your Mobile Device, something like Local Area Connection #5
6. Select Properties, make sure TCP/IP, Client for Microsoft…, Client File and Print… are ALL CHECKED. For some strange reason, mine were not and this was the problem. Default setting should be fine for all three. ActiveSync 4.x uses the TCP/IP stack to communicate, therefore you need to get a DHCP address from the PC ActiveSync Client (this is all automatic)
7. Make sure your Mobile 5 Active Sync is configured to use USB, mine was under MenuConnection and required selecting the check box to use USB.
8. You should be good to go!
9. A fall back technology is IrDA, but hopefully the above worked for you!
Best,
Ldr. D
Though even after doing everything you need to do you will still find that every few synchs Activesync will hang and refuse to do anything until you have shutdown and restarted wcescom, rebooted your 9100 or both. Still defies logic how a microsoft OS synchronizing with a microsoft OS via a microsoft synch product should have so many problems.
Active sync via USB
I never get a Network connection. it selects a network adapter. any ideas?
Another issue that I beat my head against is the "Modem Link" under Programs. If that bloody thing is active, then it will NOT see a USB link to ActiveSync. I was working out the kinks of the modem a couple days ago, and found today that AS wouldn't work. Of course I went through the whole install, reinstall, reboot, pound head, etc. before getting to the modem link issue.

Internet through Activesync

Hi, I'm a newbie who just bought an Imate Jasjam. I have been trying to use the internet via Activesync through USB. In my old ppc2002 it does so automatically, but I can't seem to get my Jasjam to connect to the internet. I type an address in IE and it loads with "connecting..." in the bottom bar but nothing happens. It doesn't even say that the page i'm looking for cannot be found. Am I missing something? Thanks for any comments.
Follow these steps and you'll be on the internet through activesync in 10 seconds. For more information you can press help(active sync) and go to connecting a mobile device to a PC, then choose the fifth help page...
1. Click Connection Settings.
2. Select Open ActiveSync when my device connects.
3. In the This computer is connected to list, select a connection to which this computer should connected when passing through ActiveSync.
at step 3 select Internet and it will work, it works for me.....
good luck..
btw.. have you search the forum before posting your msg? maybe there is a treath already for this topic
Thanks for your reply, I've done that already and it still doesnt work. Is it my ppc? because the IE doesn't seem to load properly, it loads for about 1s then just stops and nothing changes.
You should get an error message. page cannot be displayed... or something... But right now you are at work and you don't have you ppc connect through activeSync??
but at home once you connect your device to you Pc does ActiveSync synchronize normally? can you explore your device through active sync???
do you internet thorugh GPRS?
Yeah that's why it's so strange because no error comes up at all, it just stays on exactly the same page (the default homepage). I only connect at home. Activesync syncs fine and I can explore the ppc fine. I've tried changing all these different settings and disabling my firewalls but nothing!
it stays on the same page till you succesfully load another page, but it supose to give you an error... do you have other connections configured at settings/tab connections and connections?? do you see something like manage existing connections???
I do, it's on Auto pick and the other options are telstra.WAP.GSM and Telstra.WAP
Thanks for your input Alexei, I've just done a hard reset and it works now. I must have changed some setting somewhere along the line but all's good now.
I also cannot connect my phone. In connections I have only add modem conection, proxy connection and that's it. Do I have to change the network cards or something like this?
misschilli..what setting did u changed after have a hard reset
Also check any firewall to ensure it's not blocking traffic from Activesync.
The worse is connect trought BT with AS , its impossible.

Sync with Exchange via GPRS and USB

Hi,
after trying for hours I really need help:
ENVIRONMENT:
ELF (Htc Touch)
Laptop with Vista and Mobile Device Center 6.1
Office/Outlook 2007
Server 2003
WHAT I WANT:
Sync with our company exchange server both via GPRS (when I'm traveling) and USB (when I'm in the office)
Sync via GPRS works flawless. I configured the exchange settings manually. Synchronization of mails, contacts, and calendar works fine.
Problems start when I connect the device to my PC via USB.
The PC is in this case connected to our company LAN. After I plug in USB mobile device center connects and the synchronization starts. Problem is that it never ends. My device shows "waiting for network" and nothing happens thereafter. In the mobile device center error messages begin to pile up (saying that sync failed).
Aparently the device cannot connect to the exchange server via USB and the PC as gateway (at least, that's what I conclude from the messages). I've been playing with all settings I found but I'm stuck with the same problem.
There must be a way to do this! After all I had that in my old company (Windows xp and Windows Mobile 5), although i had to manually chose which connection I wanted to use.
PLZ Help !!!
Thanks
BlueDun
I found something!
Our exchange server has for internal (LAN) and external (internet) access different adresses. No wonder that it could not connect.
But there's the next problem: How do I configure so that I can chose the server depending on the connection I'm using? Of course, I could go to the exchange settings and change them every time I want to access but there must be an easier was that allows me to preconfigure two profiles for the same outlook mobile account.
Ideas please ...
Thanks

Active Syns etc. - strange bug

Hi! I need help!
When i connect phone to PC, there are in devices appears new LAN-Card WinMobile and in network settings appears new LAN-connection. But Active Sync doesn't work. It's freezes.
When i switch off extended ability of ActiveSync in Xperia, then ActiveSync works BUT only about 30 seconds, and then it's make disconnect, BUT in computer devices Pocket USB still remains, and some operations i can do (manage files, for example), and ActiveSync shows Disconnected status.
In the same time ActiveSync in phone shows Connected status!!
So many activesync "addicted" progs doesn't work...
In disk mode connection is good.
