Saving App from Market Place - HD2 General

I have a question (I searchd but could not find an answer):
Say I installed an app from the marketplace,
Is there a way to save the installation cab that was downloaded ?
(So I would not need to download it again after hard-reset)
Thanks

I was searching too, but no luck.
Every result gives info that Marketplace is keeping a list with the purchased/downloaded software and that's all.

Any app you download from the Marketplace is tied to the hotmail account you used for the purchase.
So in the event of needing to Hard reset you just sign back in and can download the app again. Of course it knows if you've bought the app so you dont have to pay again.
Just goto the Marketplace and select 'My Applications' from the front screen and it will show you the whole list of apps you've downloaded in the past. Just Re-download them.

You are correct.
I want to know if there is a way to get the actual CAB file to the phone,
so I would not need to waste my data quota to download the same app over and over again.

I think it deletes the cab.
Save the complete directory for the app under program files and just re-load that. Save any icons or .lnk files from the windows directory or windows/start menu that go with the app. Not clean, but works.

Be careful with programs which use registry entries though...

That's an Idea . . .
But - what if it's the office 2010 package ?
It installs itself to the windows folder, and . . .
well, backing up/restoring the windows folder after a hard-reset or rom upgrade is not a good idea.
So -
anyone knows how to get the cab ?
where is it saved during the download process ?
How to make it stay there after the installation ?
Thanks

Icon in games

Hi -
This is driving me crazy and I can't find anywhere to answer it (I'm sure it's trivial to most of you).
I copied a game (just the .exe file - not a .cab) into the \program files\games folder. The game icon is in that folder and it runs just fine - from that folder.
How do I get the icon to display whenever I Start/Programs/Games ? I'm guessing that it must be that I did not formally install and register it as a .cab but I am not that familiar with this OS to be sure.
TIA
Thats why it doesnt show up, because it's not installed. One thing you can do is get something like iLauncher and make the .exe a shortcut... and the icon will show up on your today screen.
Thank you! Is there a way to package the .exe in to a .cab file such that it properly registers as a game in to the game folder? Again, let me guess - get an existing .cab file and decipher it and use my .exe instead of the one that's in the .cab? Just a guess.

I have no idea how to make a CAB file... why not just find the game online, download the installer.. install it, and replace the .exe file with yours.
Hmmm.. Not trying to set the cat amoung the pigeons, but I'm not sure you need something installed to have an icon.
A few months back, I downloaded a battleships game that was just an .exe. I copied the exe onto my storage card, then placed a shortcut to it in the Windows/Start Menu/Games folder. When I open the Start > Programs > Games folder the icon showed up nicely.
Sorry, I've got no definitive answer on this, or even anything constructive to add, just concerned that I think you might be heading down the wrong path with the "cab needed" thing.
Ok, cool - I can try that - thanks! Right now it's not on the storage card and the program, not a shortcut is in the games folder in main storage.

I found instructions on how to create a cab file on MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network). Search MDSN for "cab wizard".
As for installing one program, and replacing its exe with another, I'd be careful about doing that - there may be checksums, registry entries, other required system files, etc. which may not play well with the new exe.
In the old days, you could get away with things like that. Today, you don't have a clue what and where a cab file places system entries. There are .ini files, .xml files, etc. involved in a cab file and I wouldn't want to second guess what is supposed to go where. (Open one with winrar and check it out).

Don't know if links like above are permitted - if not - mod please delete and I apologize.

[05/24/2009 - v.12] Opera Backup/Restore Script

I use SASHIMI after every hard reset or flash. I got tired of browsing to the \Windows directory and waiting forever for it to list the files and then wait again to be able to go into the Opera9 folder just to copy the bookmark file and put in my SASHIMI directory. I'm not sure how many of you are the same way, but I've made a script to make this process 100 times faster! I've worked on this script off and on for a month or so now, tweaking it here and there.
My last tweak came about as a result of Opera build 15233 (found here) storing the Opera files in \Application Data instead of \Windows. This causes M2D to not pull the favorites from Opera on the internet tab. This was a big downside for me but all the benefits of this build over build 15202 kept me on the newer build. I had been building this script as I go, with intentions to release it to the public but never got around to it. Well this last tweak put me in gear to share it. Anyways on to the script...
The script allows you to backup/restore a few Opera files to/from a folder of your choosing. It will prompt you on first run to create the settings file the script uses to hold the paths. It will prompt you to select the path for the files to be backup'd to. The script will try to detect the Opera path on first run and if it's not able to determine the path it will prompt you to select it as well. Go to "Backup\Restore" to choose the file(s) to be backup'd or even restored from a backup. Go to "Set Paths" to change the backup path or Opera path later on.
[Change Log]
v.10 - 01/01/2009
Inital Release:
-Script settings file must be created and will prompt to do so on first run.
-Settings file creation prompts for backup path and tries to auto-detect Opera path, but will prompt if it cannot determine path.
-Allows you to backup/restore the following Opera files:
*Bookmark file
*Saved passwords
*Opera settings
*Skin
-If the Opera path is set to "\Application Data\Opera9" a new option will apear on the main screen to copy the bookmark file to "\Windows\Opera9" so M2D will read it and display the bookmarks on the internet tab.
-For skin and saved passwords, the script will create a sub-folder for each file in the backup path the same as they are in Opera directory.
-If backup folder or Opera folder are deleted or renamed for some reason the script will detect the original path no longer exists and will take you to the "Set Paths" menu.
v.10 Download
v.11 - 01/04/2009
-Added cookies file to listing of files to backup/restore
-Script will add filename for cookies file to the settings file automatically on startup.
v.11 Download
v.12 - 05/24/2009
-Added "Clear Cache" option to main page.
-Added check to detect old Opera folder and prompt to change if folder changes (upgraded Opera) and old folder still exists.
-Changed/deleted paths no longer force you to path menu, but now asks if you want to change. It will take you directly to the folder picker if answered "Yes".
-Moved "M2D Bookmarks" & "Clear Cache" options to sub-menu "Tools".
-Added a "Current Path" page to show the current defined path prior to changing the path.
-New icon added. Thanks to jmckeejr @ XDA!
-Added an "All Files" option to the file list to backup/restore all files at once.
v.12 Download
Enjoy and feel free to post any feedback/suggestions/problems.

Type opera:config in the address bar of Opera and go to the user prefs section. You can change it there.
hey debarron thanks so much for this great tool, I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feel the frustration whenever upgrading the opera ,
anyways, I wanna know if it's possible to add a script to copy the "cookies4" file? I like to do that because I wanna save myself the trouble of logging in to every forums and sites that needs a login whenever I'm upgrading the opera.
Thanks again.

Thanks for this bud, I was just getting ready to write a small script to backup my passwords. I am not too familiar with mort yet, so glad you already did it. So, to repay you, I have made an icon and added it to your exe/cab. I was also wondering if you could add or help with adding "Backup ALL". This would save a lot of time.

Thanks for the icon...it looks good. Heck of a lot better than I would be able to do. When you say "Backup ALL" you mean you want to be able to backup/restore all the files you can currently backup/restore in the script in one step, right?

That would be awesome. Make it a lot easier if you want to do a full restore. I am flashing a new ROM everyday, and I could maybe use part of that script to make run through UC for effortless restore If it was ok with you any way. I havent had a lot of time since I started customizing ROMs, so it would be awesome if you could add that in(just the full restore/backup part).

thank u so much for writting this. great program on the level os pim, sashimi n htc weathermaster. u have saved me atleast 5 min
Thank you for this great app. Could it be possible that you publish your script without the UI (i mean, not the cab, just the script)? hence we could add it to Sashimi to be executed after a ROM flash!
Thanks
can u use this to move other files to the sashimi directory as well or just opera files?

Why would u want to execute the script after a flash when u can just backup to the AUTO\Root directory in SASHIMI and have SASHIMI automatically restore? That's what I do. My backup location is set to "\Storage Card\SASHIMI\Auto\Root\Windows\Opera9" and my files are restored automatically after every flash/hard reset.
But if you really want just the script, you can always grab it out of the "\Program Files\Opera Backup\" directory.

It does'nt work.
I tried to do what in "Leo Hints & Tips" for exp:
"1. Enable Hidden Default Games
Go to the Windows directory and copy bubblebreaker.exe and solitaire.exe to the games folder as shortcuts in Windows\Start Menu. Make sure to unhide system files to see the games listed."
I can't copy files as instructed (working with total commander) and if the files were copied I can't reach/see them.
I think you may have misunderstood the original instructions.
Open file manager (not total commander) and navigate to Windows folder.
Locate the file BubbleBreaker (it's 46K, not one of the others)
Highlight it and keep it pressed till you get the menu with "Copy" in it. Do Copy.
Scroll back to the top and go into "Start Menu\Programs\Games".
Do "Menu, Edit, Paste Shortcut".
As I'm a pedant, I renamed the shortcut, removing the "Shortcut to" prefix.
Then, when you go Start Menu & then Games, BubbleBreaker is in there.
Now I've just done that exactly as typed above, whilst describing it for you, so it should work for you.
Let us know if you still have a problem.
Hi,

Don't know what to say mate - it's in my Windows folder. There's a bunch of files called eT9.Rhodium.xxxx and then eT9MyWords is after them (directly after eT9DeadKeys).
I take it you did unhide system files as previously suggested? (I'm not sure if you need to do that for the games suggestion).

You'd be better off reinstalling them, then removing them through
Settings -> Application -> Remove Programs
All you've done is remove the files, so the HD2 still thinks they are installed.

In that case, its a series of registry entries you'll need to remove.
You'll need a registry editor installed on your HD2.
I use TotalCommander (there are loads out there, like Resco etc)
TotalCommander registry tool instruction + download link
Then open TotalCommander go to:
\\Plugins -> registry -> HKLM -> Security -> Shell -> StartInfo -> Start
I'm guessing the icons are in the Games folder, so go in there.
You'll have a file named Ferrari (or something similar) -> delete these.
Once you have done that, press the ' \ ' button in the top-right of the TotalCommander window.
Now go into:
\\Plugins -> registry -> HKLM -> Software
You should find a folder in there which is named after the program or the software house who made the game. *Double check* this is the folder which is to do with the game, and delete it.
i found it and its all gone!! thank you for your help.

I've edited my post above as there is another step at the bottom to pretty much finish removal.

Removing Start Menu Icons?

Hello!
I am returning to Windows Mobile from Android. I purchased a T-Mobile Dash 3G, and am liking it so far, however I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to remove a lot of the applications from the start menu because they're really cluttering things and I want them gone. I can't access them through the File Explorer. When I find something, for example TeleNav, that I want to delete, the option to delete it is grayed out.
If anyone knows of a tweak, a hack, or a .cab I need to install to get this done, I would be GREATLY apprecative!
Have an awesome day!
here is the app called totalcommander download it install from phone. then you can go into the windows folder and then go into the start menu folder and from there you can create new folders to uncluter or delete what you dont want.
You can remove elements in Windows/Start Menu
You can also make folders and sub-categorize items to make the start menu clutter free.
The file explorer all ready on your device will support this.
You can change the start menu order using a registry editor and editing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu\Order
can i change the folder icon?
