Nexus not powering on - Nexus One General

Hi there , i came home at lunch time and i had left my nexus charging for about 2 hrs, the led light was green, i needed to take a couple of pictures so i unplugged , took the pictures, powered the phone off, took out the battery popped out the sdcard and put it in my puter, ( brand new laptop, just brought, adb not setup yet) hence using the sdcard, anyway i finished getting the pics off, put the sdcard back in the phone, put battery back in and booted up , it hang at the X screen, i waited for ages, nothing happened so i took out the battery and placed it back in again, this time my phone wouldnt start at all, when i plug in the charger, no led lights, nothing.
Anyone have any ideas? Im in new zealand and brought the phone brand new off trademe (similiar to ebay) so i dunno where i stand with the warranty, and have not rang htc new zealand yet. and bootloader is unlocked. thanks

You can browse to the pictures just by putting it in usb mount mode after you plug into usb, you do not need adb to transfer them to your pc. Have you tried re-seating the sd card? Starting it up without the sd card in?

I had something similar happen to me. I don't recall what happened but my phone would not power on. Try taking the battery out and let the phone sit for about 10-15 minutes. Then try to power it up with the battery. Good luck.

hey krabman, thanks for you comment im not to sure what re seating the card is, and i have tried to start the phone without the card in.
I have also tried this suggestion by fivevolts in this discussion
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=23fd2d91446cdb46&hl=en
@ClanLee Thanks for your comment trying that now , fingers crossed EDIT: no go on that thanks anyway

Reseating would be removing it and putting it back in.
Have you tried booting it on wall power? As in with it plugged into the charger?
Also have you tryed booting into recovery? Hold volume down and press power button. Or trackball and power button.
Have you tried to hold the power button for 10-20 seconds?
Just some suggestions I could think up real quick.
Hope you get it working mate.

Battery connections
I had the same thing happen to me.
What I found out was that the battery connections (i.e. 4 little golden contacts) were not all straight.
All you have to do is bend the ones that are not straight back to their original position.

Hope it works out for you, I don't have a suggestion, but thought you should know you don't need adb to access the sd card. Just plug the phone in with usb and it asks you if you want to mount the card. Then it works just like any external drive.

@clarkster, gloewy and _Dennis_, thanks for your comments, much appreciated, and i have tried all your suggestions except checking to see if the battery contacts are straight...though wouldnt i still get a led light showing if i plugged it into the wall charger with out the battery in? And thinking i needed adb to be able to mount the sdcard was pretty stupid, dunno what i was thinking

I think I remember that the LED light should flash or something if it is plugged in without a battery in it.
If you are getting nothing at all out of the device, I'm afraid something horrible has happened. But there is a bright side (or at least slightly less dark). If it is completely dead, there is no way for HTC to know if you rooted it or not, so the warranty replacement should work smoothly.

8125 Dead

I have a 8125 and I was able to unlock it fine. After unlocking it I upgraded to the underground crossbow edition rom - which the 8125 rebooted and was running. I tried out a couple things and everything seemed to be running/working fine. It was getting late so I put it down and went to bed. This morning when I got up the phone was off so I went to turn it on and nothing happened. I figured it just ran out of battery power plugged in the charger and guess what no red light on. I have tried everything under the sun but I cant get it to charge or startup. Anyone have any ideas? It was working fine.
i know u said u've tried everything and i don't mean to sound like i'm takin the buscuit, but leave it on charge for n hour, then try bootloader. taking the battery out completely for a while could work.
i had so many problems with crossbow! think this was one of them.
Unplugged
Well so far I left the charger plugged into the phone with the battery in it for over an hour now - with no luck. The red charging light doesn't even come on. Did you have that problem? I also left the battery out and plugged in - still nothing. Tried taking the battery out and then putting it back in while plugged in - no go.
I have not tried the "bootloader" - but the phone will not turn on at all or respond in anyway. Its in a powered down state (or so it seems) - I dont think bootloader will work?? But I dont know anything about bootloader - is it on the ftp site and how do I use it?
Any chance the battery could have been completely discharged?..just a thought. I think i read that completely flat batteries wont charge up via usb. Disregard if thats a silly suggestion, just thought id offer my two cents.
try getting a new battery and see if it boots up...it can be your battery.and you are trying to charge with an AC adapter right?
Wall Charger
I am charing it via the wall charger (not usb) and I am going to try to get another battery. Just weird that I never had a battery problem until I install the wm6??!! Unless the damn thing drained my battery dry and somehow damaged the battery. I called Cingular and they are sending me another unit as its still in warranty. So we'll see when I get it - I will try the new battery. Strange. Very Strange - because everything was working last night.
Strange
Well after leaving the battery out all afternoon I took a go at the phone again, put in the battery then turned it on. It actually started booting up - showing the WM6 bootscreen. After about a minute it shut down like it was out of power. Strange. I know the phone is not bricked because if it was it wouldn't have just done what it did. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix it?
Could be a bad battery. You need to test out with some one else battery

New Battery
Well I finally got the new battery I ordered today. When I put it into my phone it will boot into wm6 fine but will not sync with activesync 4.0 or charge via USB or plugged into the wall. I uninstalled activesync, rebooted my computer and installed Activesync 4.5 - but still no luck with the phone via usb syncing with my pc. Also when the phone in plugged into the wall via the wall charger it does not charge. I am beginning to think the port on the bottom somehow was disabled from the rom update, although I dont see any posts with people having that problem. I guess my next option is trying to reflash it to stock rom via a sd card since it wont connect via USB - however I can not find the information step by step how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Try going to the bootloader screen: Turn off your phone and then hold the camera button while you turn it on. When you are at the Rainbow screen (thats the bootloader) plug in your USB cord. You should see in the bottom left (above the left soft key) where it says USB. If it doesn't then I'd say your USB port is broken (I'm not aware of any ROM being able to disable that).
As for flashing from the SD card, I believe thats documented in the Wiki...

My phone just won't boot up at all... no lights or anything

Hi, I have a major problem with my G1, it will not boot up at all now.
To make a long story short. Every couple of days my phone would not wake up from sleep mode. I thought I was having the issue people were talking about here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528191
So i reverted back to Jesusfreakes 1.5 firmware and it kept happening. So i moved all my apps back to the phone and in fact removed all widgets and really jsut kept a couple of apps.
Anyway this has still been ongoign, usually though i just have to take the batter out and put it back in and we';re in business.
Today though... it's another story. The phone will not start up at all.
I pressed the red button = nothing.
i pressed the red and home button = nothing
red button and camera = nada.
I plugged into the power, a light doesn't even come on the phone. I laeve the battery out or in same thing. I even took out the SD card....
I think the phone just died on me... Anything else you guys can recommend I do?
Take out the battery and hold the Power button for 10-20 seconds.
Plug in the power adapter (without the battery) and see if the LED turns on.
Put the battery back in and see if it turns on.
Does your computer recognize it at all when it's plugged in to USB?
That's about all I know, if you don't see the charging light after you reset it using the power+no battery suggestion, I'd think it would be a hardware problem.
Well I wasn't having any of the waking up from sleep issues. But I did have my phone completely die on me. Same symptoms, it wast responding with anything I tried, and the notification led wasnt working either. I even tried another battery and what not. So this what I did:
1st I pulled the battery out and my sd card for a few moments, the plugged it back in... nothing
Then I let the phone on charge for about 16 hours (some1 suggested this, because messing with the SPL can send ur battery to -110% and takes about 14 hours to revive it. (this didnt do anything for me, but it may have helped I dont know)
Finally I took out my battery, my sim card and my sd card, and let the phone sit for like 10 hours or something, popped my battery back in, and the phone came back to life!
give it a shot, andd good luck
Thanks, i'll let you know in 2 days how it went
in the meantime i called HTC, they seem to know about this issue. He said they'll probably have to swap out the main board but i have to call during business hours for the repair department.
He told me to emphasize that my phone was unlocked so they return it that way also. Since they're putting a new mainboard in i'll ask them to put the rogers one in instead so i can get 3g (I'm with fido in canda 1900mhz)... Let's hope their customer service is extra willing to help out
So my phone was covered by warranty! I guess a dead motherboard does not show the kind of firmware running on the device hihi.
They tried to put a Rogers compatible motherboard in but it failed testing (I have a t-mobile device running on the Canadian network) so they inserted another motherboard. She does not see if it's Rogers or not though but she suspects it's a T-mobile compatible one. They also replaced my antenna.
Can't wait to get my G1 back!!! this Treo 650 is way to bulky

Let Andriod die now have a paper wheight

ok here is the problem.
4 nights ago i forgot to plug in my hd2 while android was running and the battery died.
the next morning i went to turn it on and the screen no longer turns on but the phone does boot. the battery doesnt charge, status light doesnt either, end key doesnt work, when i answer calls no noise can be heard or made.
any hope?
Im guessing you cant run bootloader?
Maybe this is a warrenty jobby
If you know someone with another HD2, Try swapping the battery.

Hi Chris,
Please eleborate/clarify your OP, because I don't think anyone gets this... At least i don't! You say the screen doesn't turn on but the phone boots?! How do you figure that? Your device is actually on because you can receive/answer calls!?! :S
Sounds like your device has just BSOD (Black Screen of Death) which is discussed quite a lot here. Just press reset button or pull the battery (please tell me you have tried that before...).
If your device IS NOT powered on, please try this:
Does the device vibrate shortly when pressing the End-button? If so you should leave it connected to the charger for longer. If battery has drained too much it takes a while for the device to allow it to power itself up (prevention of overdrainage, which Lithium-batteries don't like very much).
Do you charge through USB, or with the supplied charger? I've had this before trying to charge it with a (different brand) microUSB charger. Turned out most chargers only give out 500mAh, whilst my normal charger (and car-charger) give out 1000mAh i believe. That might help.
You can order a cheap replacement battery from China (i got mine with dockingstation), which is already charged about 60% (for storage purposes).
BTW if your problem is fixed, please add the prefix [FIXED] or [SOLVED] to your topics title.

i have restarted many times.
i use the wall charger.
but why would the phone boot but not turn on the screen or have the mic work?
remove your sd card and the battery. you may have to hit the rest button on the back after you plug the battery back in as well, but as long as you have the sd card out it should come back on. try plugging the phone into a charger and then remove the battery as well sometimes it'll wake it up so to speak. it's just a matter of playing with it. mine did the exact same thing and i freaked out for a little bit.
now if after all this it doesn't work and you've played with it for a while then yeah, best of luck to you =\. but whatever you do in playing with the battery and the charger, keep the sd card out until you can boot into winmo.
EDIT: never mind, i thought the phone wasn't booting. i misunderstood, but i went back and reread the original post. try reflashing your rom if you're in winmo and experiencing those issues. or take the sd card out and reboot.
i would suggest making an backup, as your phone turns on you should be able to estaplish a remote-connection with some (3rd-party-)software and do a hardreset.
if this wont work i would recommend setting it back to factory default (revert hspl if you have one and install stock rom) and send it in for warranty.
seems to be some major problem...
All this steps should be possible without screen turning on (working touchscreen may be needed for backup, but flashing doent need screen input)
if drive-mode is default for your usb connection and holding you from flashing you can do a hardreset and afterwards active sync will be default again and you can establish an active sync connection and flash
check if any of the pins that contact the battery are bended or broken, try to avoid removing the battery when you have to reset your hd2 because the pins are fragile
similar thing happened to me just last night!
I tried the jmz dual boot last night and I was nearly out of battery. I didnt look at any instructions I just installed it and restarted the phone to check out the new toy. it finally got done loading I chose android right away and I was walking towards the bedroom. when I went to see if android had fully booted and plug in the phone I had nothing! It was off. I decided that the battery must have died so I tried to turn it on and all that happened was the tmobile flash screen came up for a second and then it went right off, I got so desperate that I was going to do a hard reset but that wouldnt even work! the boot loader screen would just shut right off. I was suggested to try another battery we had at the house and bang it fired right up I took a wiff of my other battery and I dont know what happened but I think I let the magic smoke out cuz it is fried!

hello friend...i have a problem similar to this. basically when my phone is in android which i use alot if it dies in android, when i reboot it it will turn on for about a second to see my splash screen then turn itself off (the battery is obviously flat). so i plug my charger in and it stays on now but doesnt indicate charging....i boot it into windows mobile and the batt just stays at 0% but its still working. however once i unplug it it will die.....its like the battery is not in the phone. luckily i have two batteries and a dock which charges batteries, so i replaced the battery and everything works fine. once the battery that died in android was fully charged i tried it again and it was fine.................im guesing the moral to this story is dont let your phone die in android mode
I do notice my HD2 runs hotter while in android than while it runs in Windows.
I am not sure if that's an issue to this, which is why I never mentioned about it being hotter. Although my HD2 is noticeable hotter, it never gets to a point that I think I should unplug the USB due to overheating concern...
Just a few inputs from passed experience
I use TMOUS Stock 2.13.531.1 WWE ROM
2.12.50.2_2 radio (not stock)
k going to tmobile today to see if they have any extra batteries i can try.
then ill update
i went to tmobile. and while i was there i noticed the screen was turning on but very dim without backlight (barely noticable). but the rep helping me did not notice and i let it stay that way because tmobile is sending me a new refurbished phone as long as i send the old one (and the rep was totally cool he uses xda also and said they wont check my software and if they do they wont ask for the phone back). he also let me get insurance in case this happens again, instead i will just say its lost. so i basically killed 2 birds with one stone

[Q] mt4g flashing LED no vibrate no screen

Hey guys, Im trying to fix this mt4g for a friend.. It wont boot, I cant get into hboot or recovery, all it does is flash the LED. I have read post saying its because I was unsuccessful at loading bootloader, however it doesn't vibrate like the others are saying. I left the battery out for a couple hours along with sd and sim, also tried charging through the night... I cannot figure this one out, also, the computer will not recognize any new hardware or drivers. Is this phone bricked beyond repair?
I put the battery on my battery charger and let the battery charge outside of the phone now when I put the battery in the phone and plug it in to the computer, the red LED comes on and stays on, along with a red glow on the trackpad... Anyone know what to do?
Blinking LED is either the battery is charging to at least one percent, or you didn't press the right button combo to boot into bootloader. Power + Volume Down is bootloader, Volume up will give you three vibrates and a flashing LED, where you will have to pull your battery.
Thanks, I cant get the phone to do anything... I plug it in with the battery in, without pushing any buttons and the LED comes on and the IR trackpad light comes on... It wont respond to anything, no drivers popup.. Is there anyway to recover a bricked mt4g? Im new to it, as I have an Evo and have never had anything like this occur with all the evos i've flashed and rooted... If someone knows anyway to fix this feel free to give input..
Thanks everyone!
ya .. mine is doing the samething.
I just try to turn it on and I get one vibrate ... nothing else
I hit down and power and I get one vibrate .. nothing else
I hit up and power I get 3 fast vibrates and a flashing orange led ... I try to plug the USB here and I get 3 fast beeps on the comp
I hit up and down vol and power I get 5 fast vibrates with a solid green led and noting else... usb again beeps 3 times on the comp
neither will recognize the usb and I have reinstalled the drivers .. and of course none will work with adb either.
I think we are screwed really ... but maybe someone knows something i dont on this here. Thanks for any help.

ya .. no luck so far ..I have tried a lot .. different drivers .. HTC sync .. etc.
I have tried different button pushes .. usb ports .. wont work in adb .. nothing is doing anything.
all I hear thru my speakers when I plug it in is that damn the fast 3 beeps .. ike a "hell no go F yourself you arent connecting it"
and there isnt a lot of info online bout this .. other than some others have the same LED blinking and stuff .. I still dont know what the different LED modes mean.
so IM screwed .. BUT I am getting an LG G2X as an alternate exchange thru T-Mobile warranty though. goodbye mytouch 4G Hello to G2X AND Galaxy S II(bought) .. fun times!
I found a thread somewhere, not sure where but it said that if you cant get anything and the infra-red on the touch sensor is lit the phone is completely bricked!
Its not bricked. Somethign is wacky with the phone, mine has done it and thats why im trying to find out what the hell is going on. My phone acts like its completely dead. This post migt end up being really long.
Ok, i notices this, i used my phone as a wifi hot spot. Turned it off. Left my phone alone, i then put it on charge and went to sleep. Woke up looked at the battery, no color other than the lighting bolt. Unplugged it then went off. Pluged charger back in and orange led flashes. Tried to get into recovery nothing. Tried to power it on, nothing, tried the volume down and power, three vibrations. Ok then i decided to take out the battery in and out, didnt work, tried leaving the battery out for a few minutes, then put it back in, same. Took out memory card, sim card. Then plugged in the charger. Let it sit for awhile then it works. I notice if you dont use the orginal charger that may also be the problem. I dont have my orginal but i used a walmart charger and seems like a super charger and some how charged my battery enough to be booted up, i daily use a charger that i found with the same connection x-( , that could be the problem. I dunno what makes this happen but it happened to me at least three times. I kinda figure the battery or the emmc chip is involved, could be the hotspot, could be anything, but we dont have enough evidence to figure it out, ill try to post what my battery usage on here. I use cm7 and it only happens when i use it. I tried all other roms but no repeats. That was my story.

I have done all these as well, and still unable to get past the black screen, or acheive bootloader as well. I have even left the battery out for a couple of hours, and still no different. Going to try recharging the battery once more, and some other things.
As for adb it is of no help as of now. I keep getting an error saying no device found. Has anyone found a way past this yet, to try rebooting through adb?
*Edit*
After trying to replace files on the sdcard I was not able to get past this issue. Also spoke with tech support, and was not able to get anywhere with their help. After speaking with them, I have come to conclusion the is bricked. I still cannot figure out what caused the phone to do this I broke down and sending it out to be replaced. Thankfully I have the insurance so I don't have to pay anything for the replacement.
Apparently its not bricked cause I'm still using mine. Try a different charger probly a stronger one like walmarts. I think the battery has a fart and is messed up for a little when it doesn't have a good charge

I have done this, fully charged it twice, and no change for me. I am glad it worked out for you.
Its not bricked.
Download the stock rom, and put that .zip in the root of your SD card. Put it in, press Power + Volume DOWN and wait for the bootloader. Once it boots, it should recognize the .zip and ask if you want to update it, run the update and your phone will be at stock again. Then root again, install Clockwork, and hopefully you backed up your ROM. This won't effect S-OFF, but you will have to run VisionARY again to get root permissions to run clockwork.
Hope this Helps.

can't access bootloader or any else....
I too had this problem not too long ago. My power button wouldn't work though... I just connected via USB to my computer with the battery out, put it back in while connected and it turned on. Maybe I'm just lucky but give it a try

[Q] Yet another Nook not holding charge and hanging at the boot screen

Google shows me I'm not even remotely alone in my trouble, but with the way tech works every problem is at least a little unique. I'll give a rundown of what I've down and whats happened up to this point.
First, I bought it used from Amazon. Very Good condition from a seller with 99% or whatever satisfaction. I think I've bought from them before, actually. So while this isn't a new device, I know I wasn't scammed. It was also factory reset and I'm assuming it wasn't rooted, though admittedly I have no idea how to check on a Nook.
Second, when it arrived the first thing I did, naturally, was turn it on. Plugged in the Nook to my computer, it booted up just fine, I registered, and loaded one a few ebooks with Calibre. The books opened up, they looked great, we were golden. That was when I noticed the battery indicator in the top didn't have a number on it. It was solid black with a ?. I thought that was weird, so I tried rebooting the device. That was when I was hit with an update, it downloaded and installed then rebooted. Here's when it all went to crap.
Third, I can get into the device. If I hold the power button and wait a bit it takes me to the homescreen where I'm met with a 0% Battery warning saying to plug it in or the device will shut off. Waiting for this message do disappear seems to give me normal access to the device, except the battery indicator is still just ?. This still happens now, after about 10 hours of charging.
Fourth, plugging in the device to anything be it wall charger or computer causes the device to reboot back to the Read Forever screen. Even if the device is completely powered off. It just hangs at the boot screen and goes nowhere. If I hold down the power button, or power + n, all it does is flash the screen to blank and then goes back to the boot screen. If I unplug it and hold down power it goes back to the previous problem.
That's everything I know. I seem to have the proper Nook micro USB cable, but the adapter is a little white Chinese looking thing so I know it's not the official. So I've switched to my Nexus 5's micro USB cable since I know it works and plugged it into my PC. The charging indicator is on, but thanks to my minor colour blindess I'm having a hell of a time deciding if it's orange or green. It's either green, orange, or yellow for sure though. Right now I'm going to go to sleep, let it charge through the night. I've had a similar problem happen to my Nexus 7 where it wouldn't turn on, and a nightlong charge seemed to fix it so who knows, this thread might be useless in the morning.
In the more likely event that it's still very useful, any help would be appreciated. And please try to keep it simple. I'm not new to technology or Android in phone/tablet form and all the associated hairpulling, but this is literally the first time I've ever dealt with an ereader. I'd like to get this solved at home, since I don't have a warranty and the price to ship this thing back to the seller would make this end up costing more than a new one would have since I'm Canadian and the seller isn't.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: After a night of charging, still 0%.
This, unfortunately, is the sign of a factory buggy (for lack of a better word) device. I doubt there's any hope. Sorry about that.
Keep me updated.
I think that there might be software to blame. My Motorola Defy also had that sort of weird battery behaviour after one of factory resets. Since then I have to install a patch written by one of XDA members every time I make a reset. But it works. Unfortunately I have no idea if it can be helpful in this case. (I'm refering to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34590229&postcount=1 )
Nonetheless I would seek some slight hope in disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
Alright, so. Progress report:
I tried the 8 failed boots trick to reset the device back to the original firmware. This brought me back to square one. The device worked, I could load books on to it via USB, and read them. But the battery indicator was just a question mark. Going into the settings revealed that the battery was at 100%, or at least claimed to be. But hey, I could read on it so I figured I was alright.
Now, a couple days later, I just woke up to find it with a new problem. Pressing the little N button to wake it up isn't doing anything. It won't respond to holding the power button down and my computer wont pick it up when it is plugged in. The charging light still comes on but I don't know how much it can be trusted.
I'm going to let it charge for a bit, but I'm beginning to think the battery is just toast.

Hi, I just went through something similar 48 hrs ago. The NST is frozen, stuck at reading forever. Before that, the battery icon had a '?', and the device info said battery status was "unavailable". Plugging in to charge had a solid green light.
I read around, and what worked was to open the case, and disconnect the battery. Google said to wait 30 mins, I waited 1. Re plugged in, put it to charge. The LED turned to orange, and 15 mins later, the NST booted. All good now.
Total cost: set of TORX scredrivers (you need a T5).

Okay, so. No T5 but I managed it with a teensy weensy flathead. Unlugged the battery, left it that way for about 20 minutes, plugged it back in, then left it to charge. 15 minutes later I came back and viola, it works and the battery is reporting it's remaining juice. Thank you very much, that seems to have done the trick.
You know, this might be the first time I ever managed to have a tech problem solved entirely by a forum.

You realise that that voids the warranty you get from XDA?

I knew the Internet would be useful for something, one day

It's a used device, there was never a warranty.
Looks like the problem is fixed. Great! Sorry I was inactive.
Later!
