Hi Nokser,
Looks really useful I've installed on my WM6.5 debranded ROM (similar to arag0n85's original, but done completely from scratch; some more stuff removed, but also some items he'd taken out retained). Here is the result:
Code:
Storage Memory Programe Memory
Before After Before After
Total 262.53 262.53 205.10 205.10
Used 21.57 21.80 131.57 117.82
Free 240.96 240.73 73.53 87.28 +18.7% improvement !
Hope you don't mind some questions, but....
- How did you discover this ?
- Is it a one off or do you think there is potential to extract even more useable space in a similar manner ?
- Is it viable to build in the Reg entries direct into a cooked ROM or does it need to be applied after initial boot to be effective ?
Many thanks,

Ok tested now, i rebuild this apps...
Now I have Storage 277MB

Your version where you upload at time (the only cab) does not work to install for me. But the version in the zip works fine and i have 277.47 MB.
Ram usage was not so more because i have the november5 rom vers.4 and here it is more than enotgh free ^^

Same problem with the .cab file. Looked at the _setup.xml and suspect may be encoding wrong format ? But not sure about the syntax within, so guess you will be able to quickly see what is the issue....

Hi, yes just tried the latest edition - is same Storage as before (262.53 MB) >> Program is strangeley a tad less than the first time at 84.56 free of 205.10 rather than 87. something.<< EDIT - just checked with CERegEditor and found that the first key was still on orig value; changed manually and am now getting 87MB Program free again.
Presume that my WM6.5 ROM is 'different' to the 6.5.x versions and thus can't get the benefit on the Storage as well as the Program ?

nosker u you know what the tradeoff is ? we are clearly giving something for something , where are thoose mb's coming from ?

Sry November5 i have think that i have only 262 MB that's comes i mean about the many flashes that i have make ^^ I Have test all you roms from ver. 1 bis ver. 4 and other from arag0n85. It's a mistake from me. Sry i love your roms

Why delete ext ROM?

It's a few month that i'm using my jam and i'm trying every day to learn something new to get the best from it.
Anyway i see many people here discussing on deleting the ext rom and i still haven't understood why i should i delete it. I know that by deleting it you can allocate more memory to your storage (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20043) but won't you loose some features? I've always thought that ext rom contained custom region/operators settings. Am i wrong? Then again, won't i loose them if i delete the ext rom?
Any info would be very appreciated, thanks in advance.
What Features do u lose?

that's exaclty what i'd like to know... if it's there i belive it should do something.
george, do you have programs like truefax installed without the ext rom?
The ext_rom is filled with some provider customisation,
it has about 20mb.
If you delete this extended rom u will have more space
available for other use, for example storing today plugins etc.
You don't have to 'lose' the extended rom. The data on the extended rom is only used after a hard reset to install some software and some operator customization.
You can easily do this by hand. Either download an appropriate extrom from the FTP here or...
- First install the rom with extended rom included.
- use Loadvdisk.exe in the windows directory to show the extended rom
- copy all files from the extended rom to your sd card (or pc)
- install the rom without the extended rom
- now install any files from your extended rom backup you want.
Presto, more storage and still all the functionality.
Or even simpler down load watever you want from the FTP itself evrthing is there..
The extended Rom Files are there in this server under the norwegian Ext_ROM Folder
everything is clear now
thanks for explaination
Can I use the org autorun.exe file to execute all requested extended_rom pgm instead of instaill in one by one?
i've not tried it, but ur missing the whole point i dont want nything except the mms, phone pad and something else.. surely not everything

I'm curious if that would work as well. I wonder if the target install place would have to be modified. Of course that does kind of defeat the purpose, but even by installing all of the extended ROM, you should still end up with quite a bit more storage memory. My imate Jam 1.06 extended ROM install files are 8.5 megabytes. They could just as easily be kept on an SD card in case of a meltdown
In theory, that should still leave at least the original 7 meg (maybe more) plus the 8.5 meg (size of the extended ROM install files) free in the storage area for a grand total of 15.5 meg. (or more). Which still ain't bad for a fully loaded unit. Anybody abserve this?

Aplication to patch any Magician ROM to bigStorage ones!!

If you want to patch any ROM like the one of Alex Anansky...
...download my aplicatión and do it now!!
It's so easy... read the instructions in the file "HowTo.txt".
Bye ;-)
Something tells me that something's fishy here.
Some guy from nowhere with only 4 posts comes up with a "breakthrough" utility and doesn't give any explanation but "download my aplicatión[sic]... Bye!"
The attachment's removed now (not by me).
OK... you lose it...
If somebody want's it... Follow this...

It's a spanish site about PhoneEdition PDA's... I moderate the programing forum.
Bye
MKS,
could you explain more on how it works!
I apologize if I sounded harsh, but this site has gone through a lot of problems from individuals repeatedly deleting things off the FTP, spamming or advertising for porn in the threads, and more.
This site needs to be moderated or protected a little better if it's going to thrive. It needs good people with good understanding, patience, and the willingness to share so we can get things that our manufacturers are not providing properly.
So, thank you for the attachment and link as I will test it out shortly.
Now come on, tell us something about you and how you did it. Or did you only find it yourself? If so: where?
So with this i can add and remove any Ext rom i want?
If that so, then its great!! now i can add IIWPO and Ext rom?
Can i?
the strange thing is if i rename any file to rom.nb1 and run the program, it will create a file with the size of 63MB rom file... is that normal MKS?
Just remember that the NB1 file will have to be 64MB since your Magician/JAM's ROM size is 64MB and it will SD-flash everything, from the CE portion to the Radio to the Extended ROM and Storage area.
Oh! it is necessary to obtain a Microsoft Certificate to upLoad some aplicatións here?
OK... I do not send many mensages in this forum... but I have been reading it for a long time... watch my date of registry.
Well, first... The size of the file is correct. Magician ROM does not occupy exactly 64Mb.
When you download the ROM to one 64Mb SD card, a few bytes at the end are single to fill the SD size. But these bytes are not necessary.
The ROM really finishes in the string "HTCE" before arriving at the 64 Mb.
I have trimmed the resulting file to do it easier to handle.
OK...This is everything at the moment. This weekend I have much work... In the next week I tell more to you.
It is possible that I even sends the source code to you too
Bye.

Hi MKS,
I tried yr program on my Imate w/ Traditional Chinese "Dopod818_1110_153_11100_Ship" Rom and it doesn't work.
Steps that I did
1. Back up the Dopod TC rom to my 256mb SD using romupdate.exe w/ d2s command
2. use ntrw to write the rom on my hd
3. using yr program to modify the rom
4. write the modified rom back to the SD
5. The Jam report Section = 1 error and doesn't start the flash
6. Therefore, I copy the first 416 byte from the original Dodpod TC to the modified rom
7. The Jam start flashing. But after it reach 100%, it report download error and checksum error.
Now, I need to roll back to my original rom.......
Rgds,
Jack
Has anyone successfully used this to make a bigstorage ROM?
im having trouble backing up my original rom. after the the check sum ok part i took the sd card out of the phone and into a card reader. i run the ntrw read backup.nb1 f: and it gave me an error. it says "cyclic redundancy check" i see that on drive see it has created a file called backup.nb1 but it is 0 bytes. does anyone know what im doing wrong?

How to use the space in the Extended ROM?

Hi all,
I know that the Extended ROM for the HTC Universal can be "unlocked" so we can move files in and out and delete files in the Extended ROM, but can we actually convert the Extended ROM space in usable space?
Either by:
1) Resizing the Extended ROM and increasing the default ROM size.
OR
2) Installing programs directly into the Extended ROM itself and running it off from there without any problems.
Many thanks!
Hi there,
1.) nope, is not possible - size is fix for default ROM and extended ROM
2.) yup, works fine - instead of just installing to main memory or storage card you then have a third option usually called 'storage', so you have 10 MB more to install programs to.
Happy installing
Pat
Thought I read somewhere in this forum about the extended rom would slow the Jasjar down.
Is it true? I would love to get the 10Mb but hate to see it slow down again...
Based on what I know, it is TRUE that we can unlock the ExtROM, BUT we cannot use that free memory yet, as of now. That is why even if you delete the ExtROM you would not see an increase in your UNIVERSAL's memory. The only good thing with unlocking the Ext ROM in the UNIVERSAL is so we can customize the Ext ROM to our liking. It will not act the same as the built-in memory. You can't store and run applications from them. This is in the UNIVERSAL, please correct me if I am wrong. BUZZ and the others are still working on how to merge the freed-up memory on the Ext ROM so that we can use it.
i have apps installed into my extended rom and it works fine, i have some games and tcpmp in there, no issues whatso ever.

WOW, how did you do it? How did you install apps in there?
copy cabs to sd, run them, choose extendedrom as the location, job done,
using buzz ext rom unlock and the reg keys to make it visible in the file system,
I agree with Carnivor - everything I installed on Extended ROM works fine.
I only faced performance issues when installing applications on storage card.
If Stanip read somewhere, 'extended rom would slow down Jasjar' -> Maybe the meaning was, that your Jasjar might be slow IF you did not install the software which came in the extended rom.
In my case I installed the software from extended rom (which is done automatically when first time staring the device), then moved all extended memory content to my storage card and enjoyed the 10 MB extra space to install programs.

Thanks, I guess I can try it the next time I perform a hard reset. What are your apps installed in the extension ROM. You mentioned that not all of them run smoothly from there?
Another question please, if I do install apps in the Ext ROM after running BUZZ unlocker and the registry tweak, does this mean the installed application survives a hard reset because it is now installed in the Ext ROM?
that is a good question, i imagine all will stay resident, but be hidden only needing the reg changes to make it visible again,
i dont really know, just assuming

I don't see clear advantages installing on the extended rom except if you try to install more programs that the limit of the memory for programs, is it ok?
Thanks for quick help guys. Just a few more quick questions.
- Where did I find the registry hack to make the Extended ROM visible? I take it that it will make it visible even on the normal File Explorer and Resco Explorer?
- Will existing backup programs backup/image the data on the Extended ROM?

Can anyone confirm whether ext Rom is still available when battery becomes low?
Hey Ever1
just a quick question when you make the extended rom visible and install a software to run from the extended rom do you hidden the extended rom again or leave it visible.
If you leave it visible can you tell me how does the pda see the storage card has storage card or as storage card2.
Thank you
Gigino
i called my extended_rom ExtendedRom, else if you dont rename it you end up messy,
I leave it visible, it shows up in system stats that way
it shows up in resco as a chip based storage similar icon to the storage memory, but instead of the pda in the background behind the chip it has a folder behind the chip
I don't know how many times I wrote to this forum:
"DON'T INSTALL AND RUN APPLICATIONS FROM EXTENDED ROM"
because you can damage it. use storage card if you need more space.

Extended ROM; How can it be made useful?

Hi there,
I made visible the extended ROM of M600 with registry tweaks seen in this forum. I dont use any of the programs on the extended ROM, coz I dont like my phone to be customised for my service provider. (I soft reseted while it was trying to customize after the hard reset).
Now I have a 10MB of Ext ROM on "My Device". My qustions are;
1) Is this Ext ROM just like another 10MB SD Card?
2) WOuld this space make the my handheld run faster? or can this be made available fot programme memory?
3) Is there any advantage of installing programmes on it compared to on th SD Card?
Currently I have about 3MB of Orange CAB files on it. None of them I use.
How can I use this space efficiently?
Thanks in advance for any comments
ps: Another thing I just remembered is that, after I made this Ext ROM visible, I cant save the camera pics to SD card. The options on the camera settings are to save it on Main Memory or Ext ROM! it doesnt recognise SD card! funny! Any way around?
Anyone please..?
I order:
1) Yes it is exactly like a 10MB SD card, you just can't remove it from the device. If you need to hard reset it will become hidden again but the data will not be lost.
2) No. Program memory is RAM and this is FLASH. You can only use it for storage.
3) It is mounted before the SD, so if you have an app that needs to run on start up, you can put it on the ext ROM but not the SD.
4) I suggest you move the Orange cabs to your PC. Having the i-mate variant I had 9MB filled with stuff out of which all I needed were Skype and Voice speed dial. Then use this space for the basic and most needed apps. Also some apps like TCPMP can be used with content from different SD cards so ext ROM would be a good place for them. I try to keep main memory free for outlook stuff.
5) Yea, the camera app only seems to recognize the first storage card it sees. Don't know about a fix for that.

Thank you very much, Levenum!
I finally understood a bunch of things about the ExtROM.
About this 5th point, I would add something.
The same identical problem raises when the \Network path created by Resco Explorer is shown on the main memory root.
The internal camera seems able to access only to the first two objects in the mountpoint list (you can see this list when installing some apps, as the dest options radio button)
So, question comes out: what about hiding ExtROM again after installing startup apps on it ?
I mean: are those apps still runnable, when staying on a hidden mountpoint ?
Thanks for any answer
..._
Sorry to butt in on this topic, but I have also been thinking of doing this.
I would just like to know though once the Extended Rom has been unlocked as described in many past posts, can you lock it again?
I am just asking this because, what happens if I have to return the phone? Surely messing with it would void any warranty?
I would need to restore the CABS back to Extended Rom, and then lock it before returning it.
Thanks

I don't know about other devices, but in case of the Prophet it's just a matter of changing back the registry values and soft resetting.
Thanks for that.
I have already backed up my Extended Rom, as Total Commander let me copy the CABS without unlocking the Extended Rom.
Orange has only added 1.95 MB which seems such a waste of vital memory.
I have heard that approx 10 MB is set aside for this. Is this set physically in manufacture by HTC? Can the extended Rom be merged into main memory like partitions can be merged on a PC?
Thanks
I read somwhere that removing things from the extended rom gives the device more storage available and shown int he memory part of settings. This however is not true, the extended rom is a seperate partition, full or empty the device will work the same.
I use mine to store the cabs of installs I use when I hard reset. Saves me copying them over each time.
Thanks very much Levenum and others who contributed. That was very informative and I am glad many others have benefited with this thread.
Cheers
One note:
I made a little experiment this Friday, which require a me to restore my Jamin to it's original state. (Hard reset + restore ext ROM).
I didn't check the CAB attributes when I copied them so even though the ext ROM was in it's original state all cabs that were used after first hard rest were deleted and didn't install after second hard reset.
So when restoring your ext ROM make sure you mark all CABs 'read only'.
I unlock ExtRom and put mein cab, edit config.txt.
But after HardReset mein cab didn't installiert.
I think, dieses cab need to signen.
Help me please signen mein cab or any cab theoretically.

There it is spoken about Wizard, i have O2 Xda Neo.
Where it is possible to take patched file Autorun.exe?
Can somebody to lay out it if it´s have?
Please, help me.
as the thread says, you cant just rename the file as it needs to be signed and designed for wm5 for it to isntall. To do your own cabs you need to have a special autorun.exe that reads a config file.

[TUT] Performance improving of HD (.NET, DirectDraw Drivers, CorePlayer ...)

Hi,
As some user complain about speed of this marvellous object, HTC Blackstone (HD), I want to give some advice and method to speed up the tools.
So, first, when I had opened my phone, start using it, it crash 4 times just during the simple first usage (cross around TouchFlo 3D) ... I was afraid that this phone doesn't work pretty well comparing to the price, but
the system is nearly the same that the Diamond, with more memory (200 mb against 128 mb for diamond !), it change everything !
I have start to go on the forum and find a perle for tweaking, add to my tweak, it's great !
So, first of all, we need to install ".NET Compact 3.5", because by default on official first rom (I have the 1.14), it come with ".NET Compact 2.0" which is know to be slower than the "3.5" version.
So, go there : Microsoft .NET Compact 3.5
Install it on your phone (Internal of course, not Storage card)
After, install TCMD or any registry tools to change registry value
TCMD Web Site
Open it, go to "\\Registry\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework"
You have 2 entry :
2.0.7045.00
and
3.5.7283.00
So edit the 2.0, change value from "1" to "0"
and edit the 3.5, change value from "0" to "1"
Ok, now .NETCompact 3.5 is the default one.
After that, and before reboot, go on this thread
and take this cab : tnyynt SD TuneUP.cab
Install it, it will tune up your memory access to the storage card and global speed.
After that, install AdvancedConfig 3.3 from here
Open it (now it work with .NET 3.5 ),
Go to performance :
Change that value :
System Cache : Activated
System Cache Size : 0 (Auto)
Filter system file size : 16384
Glyph cache : 128 ko
Save and reboot
Now you system is full optimized, and work really well (crash doesn't occur any more or really really rarely, and speed is really apreciable).
This tweak work on diamond, but with too few memory, it's hard to use well the phone after, with all this memory and this nice HD, it's marvellous !
Hop this tweak will be sticked thanks everybody for this great forum,
hop HD will be explore like diamond in not too long time
Enjoy

They is an option in coreplayer for extra speed. They help a lot when you have a big video who lag a little.
So

Check it
They will grow up cache size and other think, so report back your experience on it.

To configure NETCF you can use Netcfconfig tool, no need to modify the registry.
You can find it in Raissak's Cabcorner:

Thanks for this
I suppose this cab do the same tweak ?
Thanks... testing it right now
Yes it does, but it has much more options.
For example you can run apps individual in Netcf 2.0 or 3.5.

for ? to use 3.5 by defaut or more ?
for this one, just follow my tut
Many thanks for this!
Wasn't aware of the .NET CF tweak.. which apps are likely to gain from this?
Does this also result in a memory saving - as running apps all use the latest version and the old one isn't loaded into memory?

All apps on windows mobile use .NET, (I'm not sure but I think that), AdvancedConfig use that ...
So .NET 3.5 improve speed, memory usage and more. It's really good to use it, less crash, more speed, less memory, so any think is good for that
By the way, on diamond any cooked rom use it as a default one, and have deinstall the 2.0 version.
We can't do that there, we can just set 3.5 as the default.
A question: Why don't HTC use the version 3.5 on this "new" phone rather than version 2 (that sounds quite old) ?
In my opinion the HTC Standard Software ist not working with .NetFramework, so HTC is not interested in trying out something "new"... Maybe they will activate Framework 3.5 in a new Firmware Update.
Could this be the reason? Am I correct in saying, that not all the Software uses NetFramework? So the Speedboost will work only with some special Software.

Because they don't use it at all in their package ! so why installing a more rescent version when you use a old one ?
did you see htc optimize setting for best experience ? it's the same think
it's better and faster to do it yourself
Have done some Benchmark.
VSBenchmark07 told me (nearly) the same old score. So no boost for this application.
VSBenchmark tests: Write/Read speed, Memory Acess, Graphic Performance, Sound Performance, Game Performance (?)
Weird.. my HD performs much better with NETCF3.5 installed.
Can you post the benchmarks please?

After some Soft Resets my device performs also faster, my ultimate Benchmark score is 2642, whats yours ?
Before the Update my Device had a score of ~2300
Edit: You must run VGAFix to crop the display resolution, the Benchmark is not designed for WVGA displays....

Hi,
Interesting thread, I'd like to have a go at this Hope I can get some help though...
I obviously want to start at the beginning; installing .NET FrameWork 3.5. My first question is in regards to installing this .NET 3.5 without using ActiveSync, Microsoft tells people this is possible:
"If you are not using ActiveSync, run the CAB files on the device that correspond to the device–specific CAB files found in the install folder."
Upon installing .NET FrameWork 3.5 on my laptop, I can find the following .CAB files in the install folder:
NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab
NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab
NETCFv35.ppc.armv4.cab
NETCFv35.wce.armv4.cab
NETCFv35.wce.mipsii.cab
NETCFv35.wce.mipsiv.cab
NETCFv35.wce.sh4.cab
NETCFv35.wce.x86.cab
NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
(and some other ones for different languages)
Can anyone tell me which of these .CAB's I need for installing .NET FrameWork 3.5 on my Touch HD WWE I'd be much abliged for any assistance on this matter...
Regards,
Rolf (35, m, The Netherlands)
