hi i tried the "get directions" feature in the compass which opened google maps and i selected a location and everything....now the button in the compass says "GPS locating..." forever with no progress.
is that a problem in the GPS receiver? i can't seem to use GPS in google maps too, but it updates my location in weather just fine.
or could it be a regional problem? i heard before that GPS is banned in egypt (where i live) or something like that.
any help?
Are u outside trying GPS? You have to be outside for GPS to locate u, cannot do it inside the house.
oo thanks a lot
yea i was trying it intdoors so i tried it outdoors and it worked fine

Has anyone got the Orange M700 to work with the GPS function on Google Maps? Or does the HTC rom have to be installed??
not sure I get what you mean.... do you mean run google maps on the M700 OR use the M700 as a GPS mouse and feed the signal to a lappy and run Google Maps on the lappy?
I have done the second way, BUT you need to upgrade your google maps for $20/year (iirc) which alows you to use the GPS functions.
Not sure about google maps on the M700 as it's a huge piece of software.
Otherwise TomTom 6 has Sat images built in for overlay onto the maps when route plotting.
I'm using Google maps for pocket PC on the M700. Everything is OK.
Sorry for not being very clear....
Google maps works fine as I am messing around with it just now, but i dont get a gps location when "track location (gps)" is selected, my M700 tries to locate satellites, but then fails. I was just wondering if this function worked
Super sheep, does the "track location (gps)" function work when you select it?
On the help pages there is no mention of having to pay a subscription to the gps service to enable it.
Deech, How do you access the sat maps on tomtom??
Thanks
They are built into tom tom 6 and some where in the set-up you can select the Sat overlays, not used it my self but they are there ;-)
/me is now looking google maps mobile ;-)
also El Reg has a report here about it
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/10/google_maps_uk/
edit....
Just fired up the wi-fi (keep down data costs) and grabbed google maps, activated the gps in "menu" 30 secs later my location shwn and everything
Just a thought how many other apps are running, first time I ran it it ran out of memory, however it looked like EVERYTHING was running ;-?
AND..... Googlemaps also has to be pointed to the Com9 port
It does?
Never touched it on my M700........... but hey ho ;-)
hey, just got it to work!!
Didnt have to point to com9.
I think the problem was that it normally takes quite a while to acquire the satellites when using tomtom. I dont think that google maps is patient enough before moaning that gps isnt present.
Quite cool, but will cost a fortune in GPRS/3G charges
Hello,
I have got a prolem with my gps - when I installed maps on my HTC it had showed "I'm searching for signal", this message does not changed? What should I do to activate my gps module?
Thanks
try outside few people have success with gps indoors
also stating what gps program you use would be helpful
I do not know if it is international application - Automapa - http://www.automapa.com.pl/ . It is very popular in Poland.
I tried outdoors and no results.
Hi everyone new here. I am having some issues with getting my GPS to work properly.
I have noticed that if I use my phone without a sim inside then the GPS locks on pretty quick.
However if I put my T-Mobile sim inside and try getting a lock on the GPS it does not work, it keeps saying locating GPS in digital compass or seeking satellites in google maps. I have tried updating GPS satelite using quick GPS too but that didn't help.
So basically the GPS works when there is no sim inside the phone but doesn't when there is a sim (T-Mobile sim) inside the phone.
Does anyone know what could be the problem and how I can get it to work with the sim inside the phone?
Phone details:
My phone is running on the generic 1.66.405.2, ROM from the HTC website. I also HSPL2ed it as it was on the Tmobile rom. However the phone is still locked to Tmobile UK.

i got the same problem, it doesnt find a satalite in google maps. but it works very fast when im outside and set the gps manually in google maps. it works with com4 and 256000 rate, but it never works when i let it manage by windows..
its the same problem i had with my old omnia :/ lucky i dont use it that much, but would be nice if i could use it when i really need it.. >.<
never tried it without sim card, and i dont want to try it.. for what should i use the phone without sim card, it would not work for google maps anyway without internet connection
But there is no option to select 256000 as the baudrate.
Also when I change the com port to com4 on the gps hardware setting and press ok to exit and go back into it to check to see if the setting has been saved I find that it reverts back to its original setting of Hardware port= None and Baudrate-4800. Why does it do that?
for me there is an option for that rate Oo in google maps i mean..
but yea, u are right, my options got reverted too :/ i dont know why..
Could you tell what settings do you use in your external GPS?
Also are you able to get a GPS lock in your digital compass, could you check? Thanks.
the external gps settings are:
programm ports: com4
gps hardware port: none, baudrate 4800
and access -> manage gps automatically ON
standard settings, didnt change them
and how to use gps with the digital compass? ^.^ i only know that the compass worked with google maps when i needed it 2 weeks ago xD
Thanks for the settings mate.
Yeah you set a location on google maps and then it locks on to the gps in the digital compass and you get the longitude and latitude displayed in the digital compass.
There is also the appearance of this green light that rotates around the circumference of the compass as you move your phone, wonder what the green light indicates..

the green dot points towards the destination you chose. it's a heading marker.
Ah right cheers for that mate.
Btw I managed to get the GPS working, I think its just the sim reception that makes it the gps signal weaker when I try to lock on to gps satelites.
A simple solution for SEEKING SATELLITES (0) problem - Telstra HTC HD2 Google Maps
After frustrating weeks trying to have my GPS working on Google Maps, I've managed to find the solution for my "SEEKING SATELLITES (0)" problem when using Google Maps on my Telstra HTC HD2.
I've just turned AGPS Service OFF (Start --> Settings -->Location).. bingo.. it now locks to the satellite in a matter of seconds...
I hope this post will help other people who might be experiencing the same frustration I did..
Cheers!!
i just downloaded new york city offline map with google maps. and now i turn it on without the wifi and i've enabled gps but it can seem to track my location. i've left it for 30 mins and still nothing. is this a problem with my nexus 4 GPS or does google maps not work with GPS in offline mode?

I actually have this same problem that I discovered today, I downloaded GPS status and toolbox and if I leave that to keep attempting to get a lock it will work eventually (and maps will get the lock information). I think maps just won't try long enough to get a lock since for whatever reason the GPS lock without wifi/cell towers can be very slow.
Obviously I'm not an expert about what I'm talking about here but I think it might have something to do with the timeout on the gps locating in maps.
When I open GOOGLE MAPS with gps for example.. i see a location indicator that's like 100 feet away from my actual location with a large shaded circle indicating the accuracy of my measurement (image posted)
However GPS STATUS is able to lock onto gps satellites and I know it worked when I was stock so I'm sure it's fixable and not hardware related. Also, when I use the Waze application, it works PERFECTLY FINE.. I think the problem is rooted in some files of google maps.. please help!!
