So, I have a MyTouch 3G, and I have been unable to root it. It has the perfect SPL, and the gold card method isn't working. I really need 5 screens (3 for apps and 2 for Widgets). Yesterday I bought OpenHome, but it seems to really slow down my phone and cause lags. Is there a way to add this without being able to root, and also without OpenHome? Is there a better skinner, or preferably, an app that simply adds them?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Try Home++ or pandahome

Have you used either? Like em?
Really, I just want something that will not use a lot of resources/memory, but add 2 pages. Maybe an option to not skin at all and use my existing layout/icons, but add 2 pages and set the center page (then page 3) to home...
Used both, but.
Home++ is a little laggy/buggy if you leave Landscape mode enabled. have up to 9 pages i think.
it is a single theme, home replacement.
And Panda home uses third party themes.
(Ahome, Better Android, etc)

Is it possible to run a smooth version of the HERO rom on the mytouch, or is it too slow for everyday use? I want to install widgets...thats why i ask.
I'm not sure anyone has figured out how to get by the myTouch's "Perfect SPL" yet, so... no.
ive always found them a bit too slow but there are alot of developers working on the speed at the moment
The MyTouch can't be rooted yet as said. You'll have get widgets from the market.

Which widgets? I found beautiful widgets, open home, and a nonfunctional hero weather widget but I want everything to be seamless

Then you'll have to wait. Those are the widgets I was refering to, there is a music widget as well if you use Mixzing. (very close to the Sense UI music widget)

Thanks Clinton...I definitely dont have a problem rocking the plain old CupcakeUI!
anyway, how is open home? theres also dxtop and ahome...and im not sure which to choose, if any. do they drain battery/performance noticeably? seamless and fluid integration with daily use?
Does any one know how to get ADB for mytouch 3g
I hooked up my mytouch went to SDK and adb shell says error: device to found?? anyone know whats up. My g1 gets recognized.
HMM???
I've been using this clock/weather widget, and everything works perfectly. You can find it in the app store as Weather Widget version 2.0. It's def worth the $1.50.

Looks pretty good with one of these wallpapers too.

You have to remove the g1 driver and let it reload the Magic/Sapphire/myTouch driver. Search the forum. It's around.
Is there any way to easily lose the Sense interface, and get my interface looking like the nexus one?
I found several apps to free your home and stuff but i'm looking for something easy like the HTC Hero (i was able to just disable sense here).
yes
watch this:

yep, that's the right thing that you have to do
I've read that you can't do that on the later releases...but I'm not 100% on this.
There's always Helix Launcher in the market.

Yep indeed amazing isn't it
I've installed Launcher2.apk and despite all the posts to the contrary it works fine on my HTC Desire with the latest firmware.
I must say the app menu is a bit slower (certainly not linear) on Launcher2 compared to Sense UI or Rosie or whatever. But I prefer it to Helix as it's slightly more polished. Things just look a bit off when using Helix.
Used it for a day then went back to Sense. Simple operation using the Application Manager and clearing the defaults but Home Launcher works just as well for this if you're particularly fickle.
I've had some problems getting HTC apps working in cm6 latest nightly.
I get my apks from DC froyo.
First I tried an easy install which failed.
Then I moved it to the system/app folder and chmod and chowned to make sure the permissions and owners were the same as stock.
Right now the HTC internet browser opens but force closes.
How can I get it working?
Aren't the HTC apps tied to the Sense framework? If so, I don't think it'll be possible to get them working on a non-sense ROM.
I could be completely wrong.

No you are not completely wrong. You are completely correct. Sense is deeply integrated into Android. It's not like there are just some added libraries. The source code that compiles into the framework.jar and framework-res.apk, etc are directly modified by HTC. This means Sense is no mere skin. It is a complete integration into Android. Regardless, without this framework HTC apps will only run on Sense phones. Some can be ported over but it's a difficult process so most likely the apps you want will not be ported over. Out of curiosity though, which apps are you trying to use on CM6?
If you want Sense, go back to Sense.

Use DC.
Can't use HTC apps without Sense. Please check the FAQ in the future.
if you provide the applications you're trying to run, perhaps alternatives can be suggested for you.
I personally like the HTC Tip Calulator widget....
and the HTC Notes....
But you can't use them on adw.
I don't want an app shortcut, I want a widget.
I prefer AOSP thankyou very much.
I just like the option of having some apps that I got used to.
HTC_ime for example. The keyboard.
Even though I use swype.
The camera app which pwns the stock.
Got flashlight and car panel working.
FM radio and weather would be nice too.
There were some nice Widgets but the only one I miss is the clock.
Any porting tips?

i liked the HTC keyboard as well. I'm assuming that you did your due diligence and found this did not work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7429254#post7429254
4G and FM Radio is not working in CM6 yet.
this is listed in the CM6 OP.
i'm not sure what HTC browser your talking about. perhaps try installing Dolphin HD browser.
last nights CM6 build incorporated a new camera app and deathray (er...Flashlight app w/ widget). just get the nightly build and flash over what you have...i wipe 'cache' and 'dalvik cache' ...you loose no settings.
i use 'MyWeather' but then, i don't care for weather widgets. have you even looked on the android market for this? maybe try browsing from a computer on a site like www.appbrain.com
i use digital clock widget to provide my time date...many folks praise Beautiful Widgets.

tips...
- everyone once in a while...copy a nand backup onto your pc (ie: what if you SD card gets lost or borked?)
- read the entire forum for the ROM you're playing with
- use the search function liberally. (both on xda and google)

Thanks for your post, but.
This isn't about anything specific, i simply want to know how to get apps ported, without the java source.
That said, I AM using dolphin, but I prefer the copy-paste that I can only find with HTC sense, I was hoping the browser on stock sense would help.
I've come across that thread, and use Swype without much issue, but having no trackball () makes me wish I had some arrow keys.. Not available in that thread.
Since my OP I have customized ADW and i'm quite pleased with it overall.
Now I just want to be able to use any app I wish. Regardless of alternatives!
Beautiful widgets is good, but has no analog clocks last I checked.
I do use it either way, but again, this isn't about anything specific.
I want to unlock apk's so they work anywhere. Any rom. Not just with HTC apps, but even the touchwiz apps!
Don't care about 4G, and i know that there are bugs being worked out with CM6 but i'm following it closely. On the 8/11 nightly build right now.
Finally, I read too much. I know a lot more than I put on..
Been "playing" with android roms since Dream (especially CM).
The problem which I have won't be solved by simply looking around for a version of the APK that works.
I want to know how they are being ported/unlocked .
If you can help, then thankyou very much!
Otherwise, I don't need your irrelevant tips. (No offense intended)

I dont think Android is designed with multiple accounts in mind. You can have multipe google accounts but not multiple "master" accounts.
You can understand this not being implemented for mobile phones as they are more personal than tablets. I would hope that google look at implementing it at some stage.
Enterproid seem to be making an app for this very purpose though. Not sure when it will be released.

I was wondering if there was a way to use a combination of hidden apps and a password/locked homescreen. Basically you could have one. I'd like to have one homescreen with all my mail and calendar widgets, but be able to keep it out general homescreen rotation. Other homescreens would be set up that were relatively childproof.
Has anyone heard of a locking homescreens independently?

Regina 3d launcher has something like this. Works fine on gingerbread but I haven't tried it on honeycomb.
Had similar problems with my kids and their android phones and never really found a suitable solution.

Still looking. I've tried to DL Regina, but haven't had much luck. The launcher installed, but only showed up with froyo launcher switcher. It only works in portrait mode, which isn't very nice on my Adam. Also, it's no longer available on the market, although the other pieces of the suite are.
I wish someone would take this on in some of the popular tablet launchers. hint, hint....
OK just got my nexus 7 from ebuyer....
Where is bloody landscape mode ??? For viewing emails / surfing please tell me I'm not stuck in this thin portrait mode.. tiny keyboard its not good!!!
Hoping there is a setting somewhere I've missed... please help

Launcher is locked afaik, just get another one.
Get Apex Launcher
man you are another level (hopeless)......=P
im really pleased that the homescreen layout is kept portrait and all the apps rotate, just makes things easier for me
Check the Dev Forum. They've enabled the landscape mode for the launcher by tricking it into thinking it was a 10 inch tablet or by changing the dpi to 170.
I don't know how to change the dpi otherwise I'd tell you but I don't really care about the launcher staying in portrait mode for a 7 inch tablet.
Edit: After an exausting 30 second search there are dpi changing apps on the Play Market. You need *root* though.
locked into portrait

WTF!?! Had I known this, I wouldn't have bought it. Now I've ripped apart all packaging, and need to start replacing system software on a new device. I'm amazed none of the testers mentioned this.
Its not a big deal, and if you don't wanna get a new launcher/root then get the Ultimate Rotation App. Its like ~$2 in the Play Store, which is less then the gas money to go return it. It works flawlessly with the stock launcher.

God you are a noob. You wouldn't have bought a device because the stock launcher doesn't rotate. lmfao.
its an easy fix.. just install RotatedHome by doodleapps from the market. Its stock launcher with autorotation enabled.. Works perfect
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, there's a few options for rotating the launcher, check the dev section. Rooting takes 5min (and you can restore it back if you need to return) of your time. And then all you need to do is edit a system file to allow rotation and your done. That said, very strange google didn't include rotation in the stock device - can't for the life of me see how it's a negative, the landscape launcher works perfectly.
I've noticed that some games in the play store mention the the rotation apps interfere with their games - so maybe that's not the best option. This is the method i used, works better than changing the DPI IMO, unless you're set on getting the tablet sytle layout.

Yeah, seriously. This isn't like iOS/WP where you're stuck with one launcher, OP. You don't even need to root or do any magic, just get another (usually free) launcher from the bloody market.
That said, have to disagree with whoever's configuring stock nowadays.
Ultimate Rotation Control.
