Hero Root - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi,
I have an Hero with 2.73.85.41 Build Number, and I can't Root it, can anyone help me please?
I've had enough waiting for the promised official ROM upgrade :S
Thanks

I think you may have to use the GOLDCARD method. Use BTDAG's guide as linked in my signature.

Thanks, I'll try that, but I've already tried the Unlockr method with no success
I have a 8Gb Kingston SD card, do you think this could be the problem?
Thanks

"can't root" and "no success", now that is a detailed error report...

Use the guide I said check the "Goldcard" you've already made,...
btdag said:
12. Click on the Goldcard.img tab and press Ctrl + A (select all) Then Ctrl + C (copy).
13. Click on the Removable Disk tab (Your SD Card) and select the complete lines from 00000000 to 00000170 then press Ctrl + V (paste).
14. Click on File then click Save.
15. Close the Hex Editor.
16. Reboot the phone.
Try to open the memory card on the computer (i.e. mount the drive), if it lets you, you are all set. If it asks/tells you to reformat the card, then try steps 13 – 19 again. If it gives you the same error again, then try a different memory card. You can confirm that it has worked by opening the Removable Disk in the hex editor again and making sure the code you pasted in has stayed but this shouldn't be necessary.

First thing's first - check that your goldcard has stuck. Load up the Hex editor and open your SD card in it again and make sure it still has the goldcard data at the beginning of it.
Second - follow the "Bootloader Driver" section of my ADB/Sync Driver Guide
Third - Use Windows XP instead (you can do this through VirtualBOX or VMWare)

Read, read, then read some more.
And yeah,... Giving details of error messages you get or where exactly you get stuck at might take out some of the guess work.

Or you could try my guide

The link in your sig worked on my G1 a while back, but one of my co-workers asked me to flash his and I couldn't downgrade it, gave some error messages not allowing me to downgrade to RC29. It seems they've blocked that off in the newer SPL or something and I've seen in another thread that you might need some low-level hacks to make a custom SD card to bypass that, which is not mentioned in any of the tutorials in your link.
And that is why you follow the tutorial and flash a new SPL.

Disclaimer: I hold no responsibility for any damage, injury, loss of property, loss of data, loss of any and all resources, or any negative influence what-so-ever, that may result from any and all usage of the information below.
Format your SD card first (FAT32)
1) Launch the Market App, Search for Terminal Emulator and install it.
2) Launch Terminal Emulator
3) Enter the following:
cd /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1:*
(where * should 1234. I’ve tried other SD cards including the Transcend 1GB came with the phone, might not work if listed like mmc1:001 or mmc1:002)
cat cid
(Write down the whole string Example: 02544d5107943247039c7d22bd002653)
4) Go to QMAT site http://revskills.de/pages/download.html, download QMAT 4.36
5) Extract the file, double click on qmat.exe
6) Click on Cyptoanalysis Tools > Crypto Toolbox
7) Look way below, there is a text box (beside “Reverse String” button. Key in the cid number you’ve got earlier
Click on the “Reverse String” button, the result is reversed…
Example: 532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402
9) Copy the reversed cid
10) Go to QMAT again http://revskills.de/pages/goldcard.html to generate your goldcard (this is free for G1 phone, Thanks to Viper!)
11) Enter your email. For the CID, enter the reversed cid you’ve got earlier. However you need to replace the first 2 characters to 00.
Example: From “532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402” to “002600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402”
12) click Continue and you will receive the goldcard.img via your email.
13) Go to your email, download the goldcard.img and save it to a directory first.
14) Now, download HxD Hex Editor for this site
http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Editor/3000-2352-10891068.html?part=dl-HxDHexEdi&subj=uo&tag=button
15) Install and launch HxD Hex Editor program
16) Go to Extra tab > Open Disk. Under Physical disk, select Removable Disk (Must be your SD card), uncheck “Open as Readonly), click OK.
17) Go to Extra again, Open Disk Image, open up goldcard.img which you’ve saved to a directory earlier.
Now, you should have two tabs, one is your removable disk, the other is goldcard.img. Press OK when prompted for “Sector Size” 512 (Hard disks/Floppy disks), click OK.
18) Click on goldcard.img tab. Go to Edit tab > Select All, edit tab again > copy.
19) Click on the “removable disk” tab. Select offset 00000000 till offset 00000170, click on Edit tab and then Paste Write.
20) Click on File > Save. You may exit this program
Now, do a test to see if your SD card is “compatible”
Disconnect the USB cable connected to your SD card, then plug it back again. Go to My Computer, you will see your SD card (E.g. “Removable Disk ( F” ), double click and see if you can access it. If it prompted you to format, then forget about this SD card, don’t think it will work. After trying for days, I ended up buying a Kingston 2GB card.
If you are able to access your SD card after written the goldcard.img to your removable disk (point 19,), proceed point 21.
21) Download RC7 from http://koushikdutta.blurryfox.com/G1/DREAMIMG-RC7.zip
I used RC7, you may use other version if you want to, just google around.
22) Extract DREAMIMG.NBH to the root of your SD card.
23) Exiting moment is now… Power off your phone, power on again by holding the camera and the power button at the same time.
24) If all went smoothly, it will prompt you to press the Power button again to update
25) Once all is done, remove the battery manually to power off the phone. Place the battery back and power on again, you are on RC7 now
26) Same as usual, you will need to sign in to your google account. However do take note that after RC 7 image, all APN configuration is not relevant to the ISP in Singapore.
Click on the Menu key on your phone and configure the APN manually (google around, you should able to find you ISP APN configuration) Remember to set your APN to default.
Sign in to google again. Only once you are signed in, then proceed to (Point 26) because you need to download App like telnet from the Market.

I'm sorry, I must be missing it. I don't see any guides in the information link on how to install the new SPL before installing RC29... and am actually pretty confident that that isn't possible because you need to be rooted first and you need RC29 to root it. I'll try the gldimage trick the guy above me listed, but I don't see that anywhere in the information thread.
goldcard works
Hi,
having the OTA 1.5 version, i couldn't root my phone by using the various methods described here (downgrading to the rc7 image) since i always got a "not allow" error (why did this happend btw? I could root it in the past..).
Using this excellent guide above, everything worked perfectly and i am downgrading as i type this.
Thanks

Daniel
@ marshallladd
I got "not allowed" errors, but THANKS to your great step-by-step instructions I managed to successfully downgrade! THANKS A LOT ;-)
...hm what the smartest step next to gain root + bootloader...?

Rooting German G1 CRB43

I have spent the past several weeks trying to root my G1 originally from Germany. My goal is to root and load a stock U.S. T-Mobile ROM onto the phone. Here is some info on the phone:
Model: T-Mobile G1
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband Version: 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-00393-g6607056
Build Number: CRB43
Now, I've been through the forums and pretty much all of the tutorials. I've attempted the goldcard method using several different micro SD cards. I've been trying to load it with DREAIMG.NBH, (RC7) version. I've been using both dd commands in Ubuntu and also via PC using HXD. Where I run into a wall is the phone upon booting it up (Camera Button + Power Button) it says "No Image File".
Here's how I've been trying thus far. I've formatted the SD cards using Windows XP command (format F: /FS:FAT32 /A:4096). I've checked the CID from the SD cards using both the G1 via Terminal and also using a WMD (HTC Touch) in qmat and reversed in qmat crypto toolbox, replaced the first byte with "00", and generated a gold card via the online goldcard generator. I've tried writing the goldcard.img via HXD and via dd command, to see if either would work, and have written the DREAIMG.NBH to root as instructed. The results have always been the same, "No Image File" when I boot the phone.
If there is anyone that could help, I would greatly appreciate it as I am at a loss with what to do next.
Uhm.. CRB43 is the same build number than the Rogers Dream. Perhaps the Rogers rooting method works? That's all I can tell sorry

Just tried the Rogers method. Unfortunately, I get stuck at the first reboot point. After I've loaded the update.zip file and I reboot (Camera button + Power button), I get the "No image file" error.
Any other suggestions.
If the no image file is a green text going really fast then it is normal, you have to pres the Send key (talk key) from there to get to Fastboot mode.

I attempted it again, this time I pressed the send key and it does nothing. It goes back to the red, green, blue, and white screen.
To root a german G1 you will need to make a goldcard. I don't have an english link to a tutorial, so please google on it. Search for "Goldcard G1".

Yo peoples,
after weeks of trying to downgrade my rc9 to rc7. i finally figured a way to easily write to the raw sectors in xp without using unmount, cygwin and things like that. use at own risk!!!!
- download terminal on your g1.
- type: cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
- reverse in qmat
- change the first 2 numbers or letters to 00
- create goldcard from Viper BJK website (thanks man)
- format sd card to fat32
- download HxD Hex Editor and install
- open program and go to "extra" and then "open disk"
- choose physical disk and then the removable disk. that is the same as your memory card. I've you don`t know with one it is. just remove the card and restart the program and you will see witch one is disappeared.
- uncheck open as readonly !!!!!!!
- go to "extra" again and the open disk image.
- open the goldcard.img witch you have created from Viper BJK website.
- press ok (512 is fine) en then "select all" and "copy"
- go to the removable disk tab and select offset 00000000 till offset 00000170 go to "edit" and then past write.
- save it
- now copy dreaming.nbh to the root off your memorycard.
- turn of your phone and restart by holding the camera and the power button.
Hope this will help you.....

Hi m8, I had exactly the same problems as you, but this finaly worked for me and now I got root
If you get the cid via adb you don't need to reverse (When you use Linux you use the reverse function) only replace the first bytes and generate the goldcard and write the img with HxD.

Mine Updated Today
I just got a repaired phone yesterday here in the US and the shop had put in a new German mainboard which had CRB43 build on it. This morning my phone received a network update and changed my build to CRC1. [TUT] How to Unbrand / Debrand your HTC HD2 with PSAS Goldcard [2010-11-29]

Tired of waiting until your service provider releases HTC updates for your branded phone?
Here comes your step by step guide on how to unbrand or debrand your HTC HD2/Leo using a PSAS Goldcard.
(Thanks go to svc und oliverweidel)
Introduction:
What does a Goldcard do? Mark's post answers this best:
"All a GoldCard will do is bypass the carrier ID check when you attempt to flash a stock rom via the microsd card that you wrote the GoldCard to. A GoldCard [as such] won't unbrand your phone, that is only acomplished by flashing an HTC Stock Rom [with your Goldcard]. If you flash a carrier's Stock Rom [with your Goldcard] then it will still be branded with whatever that carrier added to it. That means that you have to use that same card everytime you want to flash a stock rom and you have to use the same method to flash it (via the same microsd card). It wont sim unlock your phone and it wont let you flash any other roms apart from stock roms".
Note:
If you experience problems:
- Check first whether you have correctly followed each step carefully
- Read the Troubleshoot Section below
- Search the thread for a similar problem
- Post a question (Please do not send me a PM with support requests but post them. Thank you!)
A. Prerequisites:
A.1. Micro SD card (no SDHC [HighCapacity], it needs to be <4GB)
A.2. The "PSAS" Software
A.3. PC with ActiveSync or MobileDeviceCenter Connection to your HD2 (Guest is good enough)
B. Make your SD Card a Gold Card:
B.1. Back up your system (especially your SD-Card!! for a Goldcard you have to format your SD-Card)
B.2. Format your Micro SD card with FAT32
B.3. Insert your formatted SD Card into your HD2
B.4. Connect your device to your PC (ActiveSync/MobileDeviceCenter)
B.O.1. Option 1: PSAS Full Version:

D.6. When on homescreen –> Softreset
D.7. For more information, read the first page of the Artemis Forum
*** Troubleshooting ***
In case you experience a problem check these points:
1. Is your card a no SDHC Card? -> SDHCCards (all cards 4GB or bigger) often cause problems, especially many of the no- or low-brand cards.
Then, follow these steps again:
2.1. Format your card again, using a Windows PC instead of the HD2's card utility.
2.2 File System must be FAT32 and allocation unit size 4096 Bytes
2.2. Make sure your card has no name (no Volume Label).
2.3. Double check your drive ID. You need the CID of drive ID 07.
2.3. Double check your CID.
3.1. Download your HTC Stock ROM a second time.
3.2. Extract RUU_signed.nbh from the newly downloaded Stock ROM again.
3.3. Rename RUU_signed.nbh to LEOIMG.NBH.
3.4. Copy LEOIMG.NBH to your newly formatted and try again.
4. It didn't help? Post a support request on this thread with a detailed description of your problem and when it occurs.
Note: Do not send me a PM with support requests but post your problem here. More persons can help you and others benefit from it as well. Thank you!
Nice job pcwe! Hope this will help many LEO owners to flash the great Artemis v.40 by Sir sternas...
So, HSPL actually will not be neccessary to flash 3.14 Stock roms (SPL 3.03...)

No, HSPL does not go well together with Stock Rom 3.14/Artemis40.
But using Goldcard, you don't need to remove HSPL before starting. It removes everything on the device.
Howdy,
very nice thread!
One question:
HSPL will be overwritten through this procedure - thats clear as eggs in eggs - but will the stock rom from sd card start to flash without hspl?
Maybe stupid, but I thought, I read something about this somewhere...

Shinson
Thanks pcwe. The goldcard image you sent worked perfectly. I was able to install the stock 3.14 ROM on my Telstra HD2, and then Artemis v 40.0 ROM

A gold card comes with its own boot environment. Its only kicked on by your bootloader (whatever version) and flashes all: Your current bootloader, radio, OS etc. Aftewards you have an unbranded HTC device like one bought in shop.
I, yesterday, tried the "gold card-method", following step by step the tutorial.
But, unfortunately, flashing process stopped at "Os" level.
I went back to artemis V37, but i'll try again, perhaps sdcard issue ?
Thank you for your tutorial, pcwe.

Try formatting your card on Windows PC (it must be FAT32). Then insert it into the device, but do not format it again. Then follow the steps to get to your CID and send a PM for another Goldcard image.
Sorry but I'm just a bit confused why you created a thread with the heading as [TUT] which has no tutorial apart from a link to the artemis roms thread which then links to another thread that gives instructions on flashing via a goldcard (which has already been written a longg time ago). I commend oliverweidel on offering to make goldcards for members as I have made about 20 in the last 2 days and it does get a bit tedious lol.
Maybe you could just explain to me why this thread is labeled as a tutorial when it has no tutorial when its really just a link to a tutorial.. Sorry im not trying to be mean or flame this thread I'm just a bit lost as to what its propose is lol
Ohh and I'm on my phone right now using xda app so if something didn't display and I actually missed the proper tutorial then i humbly apologize for this post lol.

Thanks for your input. I'm glad you mentioned that you're working on your phone. Maybe I misunderstand what a tutorial is. When you watch it on a PC, though, you see a tutorial that includes 4 sections with a total of 43 steps (including 2 options). I only link to the PSAS page and to the Artemis' frontpage. So IMHO this is a tutorial. Since you are a very experienced XDA moderator, I hope you get to see the full thread and let me know what you think about it. I'm looking forward to receiving your feedback.
(And yes, I made 15 Goldcards over the weekend, so I'm happy we can share the load )
When I turn the phone off after following all the steps and hold volume down and press power button the bootloader screen laods but it doesnt load the LEOIMG.nbh.
At the bottom it just says 'Serial'.
What am I doing wrong? I have followed all the instructions.
Although maybe I didnt get the correct Goldcard image? I went to the psas website and clicked on 'Free Goldcard gererator'
You then enter your email and sdcard id and you get emailed a goldcard image. Does this one not work?
I also got the phone to format the sd card as it does format it to FAT32

Ok I have to apologise as I just viewed this thread on my pc and it shows the whole of your first post including all the steps and yes I would regard it as a Tutorial
For some reason when viewed on the xda app it shows absolutely none of your tutorial apart from:
A. Prerequisites:
1. Micro SD card (non HCSD that is
Softreset
7. For more information, read the first page of the Artemis Forum:

Maybe its all the quotes in your post but you can understand why I was confused when I first saw it lol
I may have to contact the creator of psas as ALOT of people are now asking for GoldCards and at the moment they can only be created with a paid for version of the program so if he has objections about using it to make goldcards for anyone who asks then it may have to stop. I originally asked him about 6 months ago for permission to make goldcards for members who had mistakenly flashed a stock rom via sd card whose spl wasnt covered by HardSPL (to get them out of a hole and allow them to flash a rom with a lower SPL). Looks like people are now wanting goldcards purely to change stock roms for which they should really be using a paid for version of psas.
I will try to get hold of him over the next few days and ask if he has objections to making goldcards for users who havent already buggered their phones up then I will let you know.
Keep up the good work
Mark.

That doesn't work, its for Android only (see the title of the page). You have to follow the instructions on the first page of this thread. You either need to by PSAS (Option1) or ask somebody that has it (Option2) to generate one for you.

Goldcard

Hello, I was downgrading my Android device (2.37), until I gave up. Because I get the inncorect COD Erorr. Is because I need a card reader? The card I'm using is sandisk 2gb spare microsd. In HxD it says my device is logical, and not in pyshical.

Download goldcard helper from android market. Should help you out generating it.

U need to select Removable Disk from psihical.not the name from Logical.
And don't forget to un-check read-only.
Cheers

The website is up. I didn't realize it was called removable disk in physical drive . But I think its working now . Because when I try to downgrade with the Mc2 it go's to fastbood then I press the power button to go into bootloader, then in bootloader it gets frozen...
When I try MC1, It goes to bootloader and it downgrades, but when the downgrade has finshing checking it states "Incorrect CID, Update Failed".

Yeah - i've heard of this problem a number of times.
All i can say is MAKE SURE your reverse CID is mmc2 - download goldcard helper from the market to get your reverse CID - then put that code into the revskills website.
They should send you a WORKING image - that is, if you do the other steps correctly.
Try to BACK UP your SD Card on your computer and then re-format it to FAT32, it won't work otherwise
Good Luck!

EDIT: Also,
did you download the right PD98IMG.zip file?
Tried it still didn't work. So I tried my original card from my htc orange, it worked

i used it, and it worked super!

Format the microSD card to FAT32 format.
Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
Launch GoldCard Tool (Right Click and run as Admin if needed)
Connect Android device to USB (USB Debugging must be enabled on the device)
Click 'Get CID' (If MMC1 fails try MMC0)
Click the link to open revskills.de, enter the CID number from Goldcard Tool and create your goldcard image, which will be e-mailed to you.
Enable USB Mass Storage on the device.
Click 'Refresh' and select your microSD card in the drop down menu.
Click 'Load GoldCard.img' and open the .img file you got by email.
Click 'Patch MMC'

I'm running a focus v1.3 with Mi7 ROM installed. When I try to install the cab, I get this error on the sender window:
Error:
Update device xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx Complete with error code: 800B010A, error message: A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.
Any ideas?
Wonder why it wont install on 1.3. I get the same error. Also does it actually work OP?
Storage Unlock Samsung Focus
Well, the storagelock.cab was made by XBmod, so you need the certificates in the rom, to get this installed.
So first, check, if your rom is fully unlocked and has the xbmod certificates, then puck the cab with the cab sender.
I don't know which custom roms come with the certificates, because I don't have a Focus.
But I hope that helped.
I never could get it ito install on mi7 v1.3, but I just flashed Clean ROM 1.51 onto my focus, and the SD Unlock works great. Unlocked 3 different SDHC cards.
Finally!
Could this be put into a XAP?
Guys Cant you read the TiTLE it says Focus 1.4 why u all asking about 1.3 if u want storage unlock check ahmedfikry rom for the 1.3 i installed it in my 1.3 and working,, there is also another rom in the development forum for the 1.4 with storage unlock auto installed

What do you mean by installing the program to folder 1? What is folder 1? I don't understand. Please help me by clarifying that statement. Thanks in advance.

You don't install TO the folder 1, you install the program that is IN folder 1. Select the 32 or 64 bit version, depending on what version of Windows you are running.
You will see folder 1 after you extract the download.
Sorry, I dont understand, what is this for? I have unlocked my SD but I dont understand what is the utility of this
