I would like to record calls automatically (both my voice and the caller's one).
Is there some app that can do this?
Thank you all for answering
sorry for being an Android noob, but too many years into WM...

Thank you for your fast reply
I took the time to read the comments of the users, and they were far from enthusiastic....
Have you tried the app yourself?
How did it worked for you?
No call recording apps work, they only ever record your side of the convo unless on speaker phone. It's something to do with an android limitation. Not sure why there's not been one for rooted devices though, I'd pay for that.

I'm looking for this too. I had even bought Ultimate Voice Recorder based on good experience of it on WinMo, but it wasn't until after more than a week of it running in the background, generating loads of .3gp files did I notice that they were all 0 bytes long.
Kind of ridiculous that this works on 1.5/1.6, but not on 2.x.
using totalrecall here, works beautifully!
@DomFel, are you using a Desire? great news if total recall works on it...
Deleted post
total recall works on desire?
Felt it was necessary to bump this one. I have tested Total recall but it clearly states that it will not record for +2.0 devices.
I'm getting some very unpleasant calls from even more unpleasant people, and desperately need to record calls. Got a great recorder on Winmo (Audio touch note). Is it really so that Winmo haves something that Android even cant support?? I would be surprised if this was so!
Please let me know if you have a working app.
so am i.
im looking for in-call recorder app.. keep me posted..
Hey guys
I am using vRecorder on my desire and it works. There are some annoying features though:
First time you open the app, it will ask you to donate. Just press 0$ and afterwards press the back-button.
The following times when you open the app, it will show you a "commercial" asking you if you want to check out other apps from the developer.
It records all calls (in- and out-going), so there is no record button. It just always records all calls (it is possible to exclude numbers though).
Hope it helps, and let me know if you guys find a better app
Just tried vRecorder and it records my voice but not the other's. Other than that it's great
at mine there was a pre installed in call recorder...but its only called in-call recorder...nothing else..its build by HTC
Just tried vRecorder when I set up a new voicemail greeting. It recorded both sides and it was really good, but then it went rubbish. I worked out why-it's only recording from the microphone and first part when it was good was when I had it on speakerphone. It went really quiet after that, and was only audible as I was in a quiet room and my volume is high. Uninstalled...
Read this http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2117
Dont forget to star the issue.
So is there any info if this issue will be fixed in Froyo? Or if an app for a rooted Desire have turned up?
Total Recall dont work on my desire 2.2...
From you guys' experience, what's the most rated IM client on Android? I'd like to get one that is pretty good (or very good) for all the popular IMs.
I use Google's Talk. Low on resources. Obviously works well with Google.
I use Nimbuzz. Tried it for Gtalk but for some reason it stopped logging on properly and my Google contacts stopped coming up. It works best for me for Skype chats over wifi. A much quicker and cleaner client than Fring which I also tried.
I haven't tried AIM.
What do you guys recommend?
Ebuddy does, msn, yahoo, aim, gtalk, facebook icq etc all in one app. i find it very good
Also check out Palringo. Nice integration
ebuddy I think! using it now as we speak lol

I'm using Nimbuzz.. Its pretty cool I'll have to try out Parlingo and Ebuddy
Meebo anybody??
Using meebo right now seems fine to me
EBuddy is a bit more stylish
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Cheers guys. I'm trying Ebuddy right now. One thing that I already like is the notifications are not annoying like another one I used which used it's own high pitched notification noise.
used meebo but switched to nimbuzz, cos it also has skype. otherwise meebo was ql.
I've been using MSN Droid for a week. It was pretty much ok, I liked the UI, it have all the usuall MSN options including avatar (it's missing "appear offline" feature only), but I noticed that it actually slows down my Desire (When I am in application and I press home button it takes at least 20 second to load my home screen, after that everything goes smoothly). It was enough annoyance for me so I decided to uninstall.
Now I am using eBuddy for several days and it seems very lightweight compared to MSN Droid. I really like integration of Facebook chat in it. Only feature that eBuddy is currently missing is personal avatar, but it might come with future update.
One particullar bug (or just something I haven't figured out yet) is that after I recieve message the phone indicator LED is not always blinking. Maybe someone else knows why on some messages the LED is blinking and not on the others?
Anyhow for the time being, eBuddy is my recommendation for you to try.
Cheers
Anyone know if it is possible to get the native android IM application working on the desire? The one that was ported from the g1 and modified to work on mobile internet/3g that is usually included on custom roms for the nexus one.
agile messenger and parlingo ar the best until now, at least from the one's that i've tested.
I like Im+ a lot, used it on my Windows Mobile X1 for a long time and bought it right away after switching to the Desire. Works great for me, unfortunately no Skype or Facebook as of now

[rant] Fring freaking sucks, how in the world could they release a program that is this bad and expect people to use it? I try to use it just for skype, and 90% of the time I can't log in, can't see half my contacts online, or even see anyone. Calls don't go through, and the rare times when the program works perfectly you can't video call on it because of the sound echo. Sure you can put the sound into the ear speaker but that's useless during a video call unless you want the other person to look at your ear the entire time! Qik needs to put out a desktop app or a web app to allow video calling from a computer, and fring needs to overhaul their app so it's actually useable.[/rant]

it takes a minute or so for fring to load your skype contacts. you're not loading skype, you're loading fring, which then has to log into skype, grab your contacts, check their status etc...
regarding the sound, yeah, i agree, it sucks over speaker. try a headset and see if it still blows

Works fine w/ Skype for me over wifi. A/V quality is poor, but it is first gen tech, for the most part.

It worked fine for me also... completed a call using 3g (it was a bit laggy), but the person on the other end could see and hear me ok. Quality depends on ur connection.
I tried it tonight and me and the person I was calling were both on wifi connections using an Evo, and the sound quality was so terrible neither of us could stand it. We were both trying to talk over each other's echo. There's no point in advertising Evo as a videochat phone if that's the best they can do.
Lol, I thought that it was just me. I was showing someone the test call feature (since I dont have any video friends yet) and was very surprised that it sounded like Azzsmacky.
Fring is fine with me. There is a slight delay in voice, but my wife and I have been able to carry a conversation using it.
LOL I was just complaing about fring last night.
This is dumb...Fring is the best app out there for Video chat that I know of.
Qik is very limited and doesn't have to even load contacts the same way Fring does.
Basically, why are you ranting about (what I perceive) to be the best video chat app for Android?
Once Skype is out, then maybe you can rant about how much it sucks compared to Skype, lol

i'm ranting because it is the best out there, and that's sad lol. Yes I know that the evo just got released but fring is just bad, it doesn't even work with the camera on my sisters moto droid because of 'device limitations'
I can't even get skype to load through fring it acts like it will then after about 10 mins it tells me to try again later.
Same issue here, but remember, it's 1st gen, I am sure we will soon see more apps that can login to your Skype account and provide better quality.
Is there any time line on the general release of the Skype app for Android?
fring has worked great for me. once or twice the video didnt pop up but a reconnect fixed it. i video call my family all the time on it.
Guys!!!
Give it time! This is all new and there's no way anyone here would have expected to work well already. Its barely tested. I'm exciting about video chatting too but honestly, there's not that many people out there I can or want to video chat with...
All in time people......
trillian needs to make a android app version i love trillian and if they made adroid app with vid chat they would sell mad copies i used fring on win obile and have to admit i disliked it been using IM+ works great
I actually preferred IM+ to Fring on my iPod touch... I don't think IM+ has any Skype connectivity tho, does it? (much less video chat)

Hi all,
Amazing work with Android, thanks heaps to the community....
I wanted to ask if anyone has found call recording software that works, I have tried all the free software from market place and I also bought "Ultimate Voice Recorder" from the market place and it also doesn't seem to work.
Any help would be great.
not trying to flame but why do you need call recording
A wild guess would be to record calls
I'd also like to be able to do it.
if nothing on android doe any one know if there is anything for winmo?? recording a call would be very handy !!!
I use Vito Audio Notes in WM and it is brilliant, it automatically records all calls. I am out and about alot and don't have pen and paper available all the time so it is so handy to just have the calls recorded and then when I am back at the desk I can either enter into dairy or write down the message.
But Android just refuses to record the calls, It records that the call happened but thats it. I can record my voice from with in the same app so thats all working but it will not record the calls.
Anyone got this working?????
A semi working way to record a call is using Google voice. But it only records out going calls. It will also announce to the called that you are recording the conversation

Hi there i really want to be able to use the total recall call recorder with android on the hd2, so i'm glad to hear that its worked well for you
What android rom do you use and are both parties clear on the call recordings?
thanks in advance
I'm updating Skype now on the market. Says has video now. But says only for selected handsets and SGS is not one of them.
ye, sucks typically skype
This is baffling. If the Nexus S can support it without a front-facing camera, why not the SGS?!
Oh crapas. Its bad enough that they decided not to support one of (if not the most) popular android phone running 2.3 now. What's worse is...
a. DOES NOT SAVE PASSWORD. UGH.
b. I personally think the UI is worse. At least the "Sign-Out" is on the menu bar instead of buried in the "status" menu. But because it does not save password, this really sucks. Would it kill them to put a big red "Turn Off" button somewhere?
c. Seemed less stable, but that might be my phone.
d. I thought that the new "SMS" functionality would mean that Skype is now an SMS client, which would combine messaging functions into one program. Add a dialler into it, and it could be kick-ass. But this is NOT SMS. This is a text message sent over Skype's network to an SMS gateway to a phone. It costs much more than my SMSs through my carrier, which are true SMS.
I only use Skype on my phone when I'm travelling and need to call international. If this program was better, I would not mind leaving it on all the time. Now, google talk is starting to look better vis-a-vis Skype. If only I could call phones from Google Talk, like I can on my computer...
i hope anyone can hack this and enable video for sgs

Skype sucks anyways. Do you really think it will become better with MS?
What we really need is open standard video conferencing protocols.

Its one of those things in which the network is the value. Skype is used for international business and communication. It works better than Google Talk (which also is not open I believe) for talk between China and USA. It works for making cheap international computer to phone calls.
But yes...the company does suck. They can't provide chat customer service...and they're a communications company. Also interface is only so-so.
I NEED Skype on my phone...if no Android version I would get an iPhone. Only other way to call USA from China (without paying huge rates) is to activate VPN and use Google Talk. And that option only started 2 months ago. And I can only call a computer, not a phone with Google.
Fring and Nimbus, IMO, are no better than Skype and don't have desktop clients.

I hate it when people suggest Fring as a replacement for Skype. Give me a software to video chat between Android and PC seamlessly and then I'll call it a replacement for Skype.

it's ironic, cause fring used to be like that, it did support video between mobile (syambian i guess for instance) and pc skype seamlessly. but because of skype they had to remove this option.
I patched skype apk and video call seems to be fine.
Haven't tried it on real use, because i dont use skype but seems ok to me (preview)

LOL! That was quick.
Not working for me here.... I'm just trying with Skype Test Call user, which video is not showing up as an option... Perhaps it would work with a real contact? not sure.
Ok, I guess i should read more closely... I uninstalled first, then reinstalled your patched version. I get a video call option now, but the video preview on my side is really messed up.... running Darky's 10.1 (JVH base)
I see 4 pictures of my self from the front facing camera, all on the horizontal view screen... each picture is distorted in shape and has white lines running horizontally through it..

That's a front-cam bug on some ROM/kernel combination.
Not problem of my apk, you can try front cam @ samsung's camera app. Should be messed up there too.

How exactly is it better for talk between China and USA? It's just like any video call software out there. Windows live messenger/yahoo/google/apple/logitech all work, to name a few.
And for phone calls, it's about the most expensive VoIP solution out there.
I use voip.ms, which is cheaper and works with open protocols. With my ATA I can call with a real phone, with my computer turned off. Works on android too.

But I don't promise anything, I'm not 100% good at it
