hi guys,
has anyone added cdma support to any of the modified roms ?
I really could use it. i live too far away for any tmobile radio signal, and on my blackberry, that is how i connected to everything was with cdma.
thanks,
kevin rea
littlerock, calif.
your asking to be flamed at right now
CDMA and GSM are completely different hardware-wise, not just software. You can't use a GSM device on a CDMA network or vice versa by flashing the ROM, you need a whole different device with a CDMA radio in it. There is no CDMA HD2, so I'm afraid you're out of luck there.
If you want. cdma...get sprint evo 4g....
no....
i'm on tmobile., and have been before the hd2.., so i will just use my blackberry again.. at least i can make phone calls with it from home.., unlike the hd2.
kevin
are you talking about uma on your bb?
cant you make make wi-fi calling with the hd2 also?
Yes... you are correct.. UMA
that's what happens when you get old... the terminology escapes you.
yes, UMA.,
not cdma
I was wondering if anyone has been able to active UMA on the hdc hd2.
If you look on some online sites, i think they are european.., their specs on the hdc hd2 do say that the hd2 has the uma ability... but tmobile says that it is not in there.
thanks for helping me with the terminology.
kevin
well when i talked to t-mobile level 2 tech support they told me it supports wi-fi calling and he said it does not support uma only the blackberry phones for t-mobile have that ability
but you can always use google voice i believe it works through wi-fi and 3g but i'm not sure
Google voice is not VOIP atleast not as of yet.

They also told me that it was impossible to tether with any of their phones other then the Blackberry's. We all know that's BS.
Has anyone figured out if the HD2 is capable of UMA calling? I've searched all over the place and can't find an answer to this.
Thanks!

Hi All,
I was wondering if I could use my unlocked 8525 with Verizon's net work if I switched to them? I'm not sure about compatability of the phone with Verizon's voice and data services and was wondering if anyone knew.
Thanks
I dont think so. Att and verizon use two different technologies. Att uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. Im almost certain tho a phone that is based on GSM cannot be used on a CDMA network. The phone will work on TMobile or USCellular. They use a GSM based technology. Verizon Sprint and Nextel all use CDMA. If i am wrong and you can use the GSM based phone with Verizon CDMA then someone please correct me. But i am pretty certain you cannot.
OK,thanks. Thats what I thought
Verizon does not have sim cards, is that correct?

Not that I've ever seen.
I know sprint phones have sim card slots, but they are not used, at least in the USA.
My guess is that CDMA phones can be used in the same way as GSM phones as far as switching sims to use different carriers, but the CDMA carriers in the 'states don't use that functionality (probably to keep a tighter grip on their sucke....customers and wring more money from them through phone sales/upgrades and extra services, like a data service to put on extra ring tones )
I know that I don't know much about these phones, but what of the setting inside of Settings/Personal/Phone/Band where you can select WCDMA as your network type? I've got an 8525 and it shows as an option, but I just don't know if anyone's tried it before.
CDMA and GSM phones are totally different. The only SIM based verizon phone that Ive seen its the Blackberry 8300 its world edition soo it can bu used through a cdma and also a GSM carrier. I would be interested if anyone knows how to say make a sprint phone capable of being on verizons network. That would be something different.
actually a sprint phone is capable of being used on verison network any cdma phone is. in short the way cdma works the subscriber info is assigned to the phone's esn by the carrier so only the carrier can change your phone with gsm the sim (Subscriber Identity Module) holds the subscriber info and it is assigned to a sim card id not a esn (electronic serial number) so all you have to do to get a sprint phone to work for verizon is get verizon to let it (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT) you would have better luck the other way around verizon is the pickiest co out there when it comes to network integrity and security issues they seem to think that letting people use any phone they want could somehow hurt their network

WCDMA is 3G. 3G on GSM systems is essentially a CDMA standard, but not the same CDMA as Verizon uses. It is not compatible.

I live in the USA and have a T-mobile account. I was waiting patiently for a new phone that sports 3g AND UMA but it seems that all the new devices I am aware of apparently dont have the uma (which is a must for my billing purposes!)
What if I was to get my hands on a Touch3g and unlock it? Can it be programmed to work on tmobile-us's uma network? how about the 3g? It looks like it has ALL frequencies from the wiki page, does it actually come capable of everything, or do different operator phones have different freq's available?
I currently use an unlocked att tilt (aka kaiser) which does not support tmobile's 3g network (att is on different freq's), and doesn't have uma. I am familiar with modding/unlocking/upgrading the roms (with downloads, I cant do my own programming) but I really need a decent phone with uma support. Also, what could I expect to pay for one of these in good condition? Do they come with different keyboards from different areas (I once had a german device, and it took a long time for me to fix the keyboard buttons to do what they said!!!)
Thanks for all your help!
My old Blackberry and several samsung phone as well as some others have the option that if you have wi-fi access, you can set your phone to use the wi-fi as the preferred method to place calls, basically turning your router into a cell tower. T-Mobile likes to sell this as their @home package or something for unlimited calling etc, but you can enable it without the package, it just uses your minutes, messages etc in your plan. Any chance these phones could be enabled with this option as an app or part of a ROM? I emailed HTC about it before T-Mobile released the phone and they said the phone was capable but that T-Mobile didn't have it put in their ROM. Wondering if this can be done?
Thanks
NO, not possible.
UMA would've been on the phone already.
and have you noticed?? all UMA capable phones don't have 3G? thats another reason why it will not work.
I saw an add where the Touch Pro 2 has a conference call app. Is that on the Imagio too?
Nevermind I found my answer.
And that answer was?
CDMA networks can only handle 3 people on a call. GSM can handle 8. The conference program is only on the GSM TP2. Even if you bake it into a CDMA rom. It won't work.
But say if you had a go card from at&t and an unlocked imagio, what say you now?
It's still a CDMA phone/rom so I'm guessing no. I wonder if you use both the CDMA and GSM radios can you talk and surf at the same time?
Well is there a program to conference between 3 people?
Hey everyone i live in the us and i wanted to know if the boost network is good and i know they have unlimited internet so i'm planning to get one but i want to know if it can work in my unlocked Hd-2?
I haven't looked at Boost much, but believe they are CDMA/iDEN as they a wholy owned by Sprint/Nextel here in the US.
I am not positive if Boost can be manually configured to run on your unlocked device but I can tell you that I have an unlocked GSM t-mobile wing and just for fun, with a current Boost chip from the iDen phones, I was unable to use the network wizard to automatically configure because of the lack of network settings for boost. Again, as SinisterJunkie pointed out, even with the proper settings, it is a completely different network and I believe it would be difficult to say the least.
ahhh thanx for your help ppl...i really just wanted the phone for internet but i mihgt get one to do a trail and error
As mentioned above, the only phones that are compatible with Nextel's iDEN network are Nextel phones and Boost Mobile phones and Southern Linc. Pretty much everything else is either CDMA or GSM and are not compatible. So the HD2 is not compatible with Nextel network since the device itself should have been designed to support iDEN network. There are also no touch screens that are compatible with Nextel as far as I know (I haven't been around their webpage for a long time). The only PDA's that I recall are compatible, are several Blackberrys and these are all branded Nextel (see Nextel's webpage).
