HELP - cannot sync to windows 7 starter - HD2 General

Ive bought a netbook running windows 7 starter, now my hd2 wont connect with windows mobile device center.
I originally set up the pc synch(activesync) with an xp laptop and now it wont connect with the windows 7 netbook.
The phone is telling me to install activesync , but i cant because i have to install the newer windows mobile device center WTF
Ive deleted the old connections on activesync on my phone.
Is there something new to download to my hd2?
Any advice?
Thanks

windows mobile device centre does the same as activesync. it is the new name for activesync used on win 7.
i use the starter edition also on my netbook and cannot get mobile devicecentre installed for some weird reason. probably a problem on my netbook
started using ms myphone for the things i used mobiledevice centre for.

There must be way to connect the phone to a Windows 7 starter netbook.
I plan on doing a hard reset and want to preserve all my bookmarks, and also want to flash a ROM , I'm sure ill need to sync my phone to a computer for that?
The phone keeps telling me to install activesync on my pc even though I have to use wmdc.
When I reinstall wmdc on the netbook I keep getting an error and it won't install properly.
It says device manager not installed, or something like that .
It's a bloody mystery!

for flashing a rom you do not need activesync or mobile device centre. I flash my phone from my laptop without. just put the phone in bootloader and you can flash a rom as normal using the custom ruu. alternatively you can flash from memory card.
think ms myphone can backup that also but you have to check to make sure.

on my sig there is a flashing guide, in it there is a download for win 7 windows mobile device center run it and you should be good to go

this has been discussed so often, if you had taken the time to search there would be no need for that thread!
It so easy, just use windows update to download the driver and windows mobile center and that's it. If it doesn't work you are doing it wrong because it works for everybody else that way!

Leave ytour phone, as the problem appears to be with the netbook. make sure your netbook is not connected to the internet, then disable all the security and see if WMDC recognises your phone.

Thanks for the respones, ill try those tips when I get a chance later in the day.
Apologies for starting a new thread if its been discussed many times before.

Right, i think ive tried everything.
Hard reset my hd2
Uninstalled wmdc
Did every windows update available
re-installed wmdc with webroot antivirus turned off and internet access turned off.
And it still wont recognise the hd2
When its installing the driver on my netbook for the hd2 it keeps getting an error - it says "unidentified device : device unplugged" even though it is plugged in and screen is on.
The phone will connect to my netbook for the disk drive option and the internet sharing option, so i dont think its a problem with the hd2 usb connection
Its a real mystery, anyone out there able to crack this one?

have you tried this?
settings, menu, all settings, connections, USB to PC, uncheck "enable faster data sync", click done.
when I did that, my HD2 finally connected to PC after DAYS of trying!

Yep! I sure have
The computer is just is not seeing my phone with the the activesync option, but it is seeing the phone with both the disk drive and internet sharing options.
When i try un-install wmdc some errors keep popping up, i have to manually go into the task manager and kill 2 .exe active files otherwise it wont uninstall, very strange indeed
Maybe it could be a usb port issue, but i have tried all 3 usb ports on my netbook.

Hi pabloh999,
I potentially have a fix for you. I experienced the same errors as you tried all you have and eventually found a fix - by accident!
Set to airplane mode on & then off. After this my connections & syncs were fine.
Let us know how you go.

Tried that and - nothing!
Its just not recognising my phone, its saying "device unplugged"
I even turned off the charging function when plugged into a pc, just in case that was draining too much juice from the usb port.
No problem solvers out there??

I am thinking now it could be a problem with the usb ports on my netbook.
On one of my million attempts i got a windows error message saying that i should use a high speed usb port, and it gave me a list of "high speed" usb ports on my computer.
I dont know how to use this information because it doesnt physically show which of my 3 usb ports is the "high speed one(s)"
I thought the three of them are the same?
I tried updating the usb drivers to no avail
Fu**ing pissin me off!

Sync with Win 7
Same problem here, Tried everything on the web and on XDA and still cant sync.
Is this a Microsoft Problem, Oh by the way dont agree with d3l1
Ican still sync with my old XP laptop, but my new Win 7 is crap... (Both are Asus machines)
Any pointers would be welome. Ta.

Can't get 8525 to work under Vista (32 bit)

Hi all, I have a frustrating problem with my Cingular 8525. I just formatted the comp and installed Vista Ultimate on it fresh. I downloaded WMDC but I can't get it to recognize my phone for the life of me. It keeps saying "connecting" forever and never does. I have done all sorts of installs, re-installs, hard resets, but I can't get it to detect at all! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

first try to install the driver of your device.. go to device manager and look for unknown device at OTHERS..
good night and good luck
The driver is installed... it displays HTC USB Sync. I am getting frustrated . Stupid Vista.
USE the search function dude
Hermes vista config guide
Also make sure you dont have any firewalls active. I have had issues syncing my phone with my computer when using AVG's firewall. I simply disabled the firewall and it fixed my problems.

I already tried that guide... still not working. Ill try disabling the firewall
go to settings->connections->usb to pc and then check Enable Advanced network functionality.
If that doesn't work remove/uninstall htc sync device, unplug device and plug in device to reinstall the htc sync device after you have set the usb to pc connection settings.
Also try using a different USB cable and plugging it into a different port, you never know, it could just be something defective.
But I'm putting my money on the firewall
I had a problem connecting my 8525 to my Vista machine. It would say connecting but it would never finish 'connecting'. It took a while but finally I figured out what was causing it. It was the 'recording' .wav files in the notes directory that were causing the issue. If you have any .wav files in your notes directory I'd suggest moving them to say your SD card or deleting them. That fixed the 'connecting' problem for me and since I did that it's been syncronizing fine ever since.
I tried everything listed in here at once.... something worked I should have done each step by step to pinpoint what exactly... but its working now. Thanks everyone!

Same for me. I had a load of problems getting the Mobile Device Center working with my HTC TyTN. First I was unable to even install the driver when I first connected my device. The "add new hardware" wizard always tried to connect to Windows Update and install an updated driver which then failed. The solution was to let it fail and manually install an older driver from the list using the icon in Device Manager. After that I could start Windows Update and download the latest update.
Then I had the same problems as you describe. When I started WMDC it just hung while displaying "Connecting". Looking in the task manager I noticed that the wmdc.exe process was consuming more and more memory, up until something like 250 MB, after which WMDC just showed "Error". Finally I got it to work. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what I did to fix it. I know that the "advanced network features" under USB in connection settings on the TyTN need to be ticked and the device showing as a Windows Mobile Device instead of HTC USB Sync.
Initially I did a hard reset of the TyTN. Further, I manually unistalled and reinstalled the driver in Device Manager a couple of times. I tried to reboot both the computer and the TyTN several times. Also, I did restart the "Windows Mobile-based device connectivity" service after plugging in the cable. Finally it just recognized my device and I could setup the partnership. Now I can sync over bluetooth too and skip the cable.
HTC phone support was not very helpful with this problem. "We will call you back". Yeah right.
Mobile cofiguration:
Dopod 838 Pro
LVSW 4/17/07 WM6
Hard SPL
PC configuration:
Windows Vista Business Edition
I encountered the same problem. Currently able to sync back by hard resetting my device. The USB to PC connection on settings does not appear to affect the sync problem.
I suspect that the problem arise when I originally sync with an XP machine.
What worked for me was to enable the advanced usb setting on the phone as mentioned...then while the phone is still plugged in, I removed everything associated with the phone from device manager on the pc. Once that was done, I unplugged the cable, waited a few seconds, and plugged it back in (with the advanced usb settings still checked.) Worked like a charm with WMDC.
I had problems with all sorts of "connectivity" in Vista, including connecting up my Trinity, and setting up my xbox 360 as a media extender.
As soon as I uninstalled MS One Care it all started working.

Activesync 4.5 Problem: won't connect to my device anymore

so i thought i'd give vista's "windows mobile device center" a try on my vista laptop, and wasn't surprised to find that i couldn't get it to recognize my phone. i was surprised to find that the xp computer that i've been using with activesync for a long time suddenly stopped recognizing my phone as well.
up to now i've hard reset phone (dcd 3.04, 3.37 radio) and reinstalled activesync 4.5. no dice. please if anyone can help me troubleshoot this thing i'd be way grateful. why has my phone stopped communicating with my computers?
For WM 6 devices, on Vista you must upgrade to Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
i downloaded and used 6.1 on my vista machine, but it didn't work. any other ideas? i think there may be something that changed on the phone, because now, activesync won't work either...
...bytheway, the phone will charge when plugged into either, but that's about it.

Just for ****s and giggles, have you tried the following:
1. Using a different usb port
2. Blowing the dust out of the port on the phone
3. Using the Y adapter that came with the phone in between the sync cable and the phone
First, plug into the USB, wait for the Windows new device chime, see if anything occurs in the WM Activesync.. If no Activesync connection is made (after the 'connecting' has stopped) then unplug and plug in back in another USB port. Do that at least 4 times (cycling between ports...even the same may eventually work) to see if you have a success.
Restart your PC, Soft-rest your phone and try again.
If still nothing, then don't bother plugging your phone in and then Run As An Administrator the attached batch file and then under View 'Show Hidden Devices.' You'll now see all devices that have ever been installed and retained for your OS, with the faded devices as those not currently attached/active.
Rather than the batch file you can open up a Command Promp Window with Administrator access (Start\Programs\Accessories\Right Click on Command Prompt and Run As An Administrator)
(I usually keep that batch file accessible in the root of my OS partition, just to keep it easy to clean out legacy device drivers that can cause problems.[/i])
Enter:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc
Uninstall
Network adapters\Microsoft Windows Remote Adapter
Portable Devices\PocketPC
Then under Programs & Settings uninstall the Windows Mobile Device Center upgrade, and then reboot your PC. Reinstal that Device Center 6.1 update and then again connect your phone with the USB. (for the XP machine you can do all of the and unistall/reboot/reinstall the ActiveSync 4.5.
(note to self or another.....these steps to be added to the Wiki for ActiveSyn issues)
well, i'm thinking that the "****s and giggles" have it. i blew into the port, plugged her in, and it connected to my xp machine, just like days of old. after about 3 minutes though, the connection dropped, and i've not been able to get it going again since. i think this rules out any software/settings problem, and looks like it's a hardware issue. i'll try cleaning it one more time a little later, and if no go, i'll have to figure a way to re-flash the stock rom (i only have a 6gb card...) and send the beast back. thanx for the input, guys (specially keystone, dang man that was one badass post with some instructions that will help someone, i'm sure.)
Do you have the Y adapter that came with the phone? The one with the audio jack and the 5 pin mini usb on one end and the 11 pin mini usb on the other? The reason I ask is because for some reason HTC decided to put an 11 pin mini usb connector on our phones, yet supply us with a data cable that's standard 5 pin mini usb. If you have it, just humor me and try it and see if it keeps the connection.
Oh and P.S....the "****s and giggles" wasn't just a shot in the dark. I've solved many activesync problems for people before using all 3.
I actually hadn't used the cord without the Y-adapter untill today. both ways yeild the same result.
Another Activesync problem
I've been on vacation the last week and while away i had to do a clear storage..anyway, my phone was fine but when i connect thru activesync i get an error code : 85010014 and my contacts list doesnt get updated...:S can anyone out there give me some advice or do i hafto start from scratch?
Also is there a way to find my contacts on my comp?

Hi, thanks that work for me fine too
my mogul has been giving me crap with vista and xp for weeks. Nothing can solve it. I've re-flashed, downgraded, used different ports, different cables, modified the USB to PC settings.
Add this to the list of things that randomly seem to be a problem for this phone.
I had a similar situation, none of the software based suggestions fixed it. Wiggling the cord around would sometimes connect, but soon thereafter, my phone stopped charging. The USB port was the culprit, so be careful.
I'm sure everyone who was having troubles figured out solutions, just thought I'd add in my dealings with this.
I just had the phone activated today (yes I bought used) and brought it to work to sync with my work outlook, well the usb cord would charge the phone but give me nothing but errors in the way of actual data connection. I was a little bummed this afternoon thinking I bought a partially broken phone. But WHILE HAVING THE PHONE CONNECTED ( I bold because I had done this multiple times while not connected and had no results) I opened the Comm Manager and clicked on the sync button at the bottom, suddenly my computer could recognize my device and I was sync'ing like a mad man.
Very possibly a stupid thing I should have done from the start, but I don't know any better since I'm brand new to all of this. I only post in hopes of helping another bummed out soul as was myself
I an running a HTC TyTN-II 4550 phone (WinMo 6.1) on a desktop PC (WinXP).
I couldn't get Activesync 4.5 to work either, but there were obvious reasons--my version of Office 2000 isn't supported (2003 is the earliest, I think) and IE and Outlook are not set as my default mail clients (-and that's how I like it-).
I didn't really need Activesync but I did want to be able to get files on and off the phone from my desktop PC through the USB cable. When I'd connect the phone, Activesync would automatically start up and spin the little logo for a while and then say "connection couldn't be made" and then I couldn't do anything--even move files on and off the phone.
What I found works is this:
1) open the Task Manager, and kill the wcescomm.exe process.
2) navigate to the folder that Activesync is installed in, and run the file named WCESMgr.exe.
3) that will popup a window, asking if you want to sync, or cancel. Press [cancel]
4) the normal Activesync window will come up, and the choices for "Sync" and "Schedule" will be greyed out, but the "Explore" button should work.
Sometimes I can disconnect and reconnect the phone without going through steps #1-#4, but not always.
With the "Explore" window you can drag files on and off the device.
I tried dragging small Word and Excel docs on and off; both converted properly when dragged onto the phone, but only the Word file would convert again when dragged off.
The phone will access the internet through the USB when hooked up this way, also.

Vista Mobile Device Sync Problems

I have search everything here and on HTC and on Verizon and here is where I am stuck. Using DCD 3.2.0 (but had same problem with 3.1.6) and latest Radio Rom. It seems to connect just fine to a Windows XP activesync 4.5 computer but will not connect to the Mobile Device Center on Vista (32bit).
Looking into the device manager I do see the Mobile Devices/HTC USB Sync driver is active but I do not see the Portable Devices/XV 6800 driver at all.
I do have the "Enable Advanced Network Functioinality" unchecked. I have uninstalled all the drivers and Mobile Sync software and rebooted everything. I even have tried the USB splitter. It seems to half recognize the phone in Vista but the other half is the Mobile Sync part. I do get an error on the phone that says "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer." This is sooooo frustrating as it worked one time on Vista, I think either DCD 3.0.x or maybe earlier and now it only works on XP.
What am I missing here??????

I have tried different USB ports and no Joy. It looks like it recognizes it as the HTC USB Sync driver shows up and it makes a noise that it found a USB device. I don't have another Vista machine but maybe a 64bit windows 2003 server would be the same. Probably not. It did work once a few DCD Roms ago but not since.
Random Disconnects
I am having a similar problem. Evern since moving to DCD 3.12, I have had a similar problem. I can manage to get connected sometimes but it will randomly disconnect.
For a while I switched to No2Chem and didnt experience the problem.

Can you post what devices show up when you are connected?
When I went from 3.1.4 to 3.2.0 I started having issues with Sync Center (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) as well. If I restart the PC it works fine for a while, but then suddenly you hear the USB device disconnect noise and thats all she wrote.
The device's charge LED is on, but it doesn't show up in vista anymore unless you restart the PC.
With 3.1.4 I never had this issue.
I wrote up an ActiveSync/mobile Device Manager Troubleshooting Guide in the Wiki, did you try all of those steps?

Go under settings/connections/USB to PC and uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality and see if that works for you on Vista.
also make sure you check your network connections, and make sure the Remote NDIS Connection (This is your Pocket PC, Smartphone) And have the IP Configuration set to automatic, as i forgot to put it back after using it as a modem for my laptop. This also prevents active sync from working.
Just a thought, as i had a similar problem, and my fix was reverting back IP settings to Automatic. Try this if you haven't

DV8, I have tried both on and off. It seems that off will act like the PPC with it on it acts like the remote NDIS network adapter like if you want to teather it.
ranmasaotome510, If I don't select the advanced network functioinality I never get the Remote NDIS Connection to change anything. All I get is the HTC USB Sync driver under the Mobile Devices and that is it. If I check the advanced network functionality I only get the Microsoft Widnows Mobile Remote Adapter driver and not the HTC USB sync driver. Either way WESCOMM doesn't find the device.
I used the view hidden devices and removed everything I could find but I never can find this driver: Portable Devices\PocketPC to uninstall it. I have also uninstalled WMDC a couple of times and have downloaded and installed the latest. This works fine on XP with out fail. I am also using office 2007 but this did work on this Vista machine with an earlier ROM.
No clue if this is related, but I found two copies of Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in device manager. One was operational and the other was not. I removed the one with the yellow bang on it and plugged in my phone. Immediately Sync Center saw it and allowed me to create a connection with the phone.
Dumb luck? Maybe.

This is just a shot in the dark, but have you tried any of the wireless sync options - either bluetooth or IR? I know that they aren't quite as fast or reliable, but it may be worth a shot.

Hello all together,
some days ago I have bought a new S710 Vox phone and had no luck with synchronizing it with my Vista PC. Same problem as jambrose.
Then I read the posting about Teredo Tunneling-Adapter, deleted it from my system, rebooted the PC and surprise, the connection to my Vox works fine. Thank you!
Greetings to all

Yes, I found it in the Device Manager under Network.
But, this works only few days. My PC normaly runs all around the day und so it works until yesterday when I had to reboot my system because I had installed a software update. After this reboot the S710 has the same problem again. Even the Teredo Tunneling Adapter is still not there.

HELP!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot get this resolved to save my arse!
I have tried EVERYTHING...just spent 3 hours looking up stuff, and re-reading to try and find something.
What the problem is:
My Verizon XV6800 connects to my Vista laptop, but does not OPEN up WMDC. If I have "Advanced Function" unchecked, then my laptop finds my ppc when connected, but does not open up WMDC. On my phone, a little connection icon goes in the bottom tray. Other times, I get the "you do not have active sync 4.5 installed" error.
What I've tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalled
net localgroup add administrators etc.
I am at a loss.
I just want to sync my Mogul with my Vista Laptop, so that I can install apps and sync email! UGH!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have a firewall running on your laptop? I had trouble connecting also since I have BitDefender running. I had to open up some ports to get it working. Also, prior to connecting the USB, I would exit the ActiveSync process. The connection will start a new instance of it automatically.

Firstly, what operating system are you using on your PC?
Secondly, have you tried deleting the sync partnership on both your phone and the PC and recreating it?
Thirdly, try and connect your phone directly to the USB root hub on your PC and not via a hub.
The fact that the HD2 is identifying the physical connection suggest the problem may lie at the PC end. Recreating the sync partnership is probably all that's needed.
Hello
If you are using Vista or Win7 you need to download Microsoft Mobile Device Manager to get a successful connection. Once you download this and install all will be good.
There is an option (can´t remember where) where you can disable fast link for ActiveSync.
This fast option has created me a lot of problem.
i'm using win7, i reinstalled the mobile device.
If i disable enable faster data sync then I can sync the phone with the computer but if I enable faster data sync then the 3G band auto enables...
I have just in the last weekend somehow lost the ability to connect to any computer. I have an activesync connection with work and a connection via hsdpa to the server too, and then one via wmdc on my vista home computer.
All has been going swimmingly until the weekend when I noticed that it had stopped synching new appointments.
The computers (both) now no longer even detect the phone, although it does charge via the usb cables.
The settings are still set to sync on the phone (as opposed to say disk drive).
I've tried a bunch of things, and now annoyingly, have hard reset the phone, but no joy!! Now I have the joy of setting everything back up again... But still no synchronising with the computer.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Did you reboot the PC? I occassionaly have problems with activesync stopping working suddenly. It doesn't really like being unplugged sometimes and get's a bit ansy about it. I've found that sometimes a soft reset of the phone does it, but sometimes I need to reboot the PC.
I hope you did try rebooting the PC before you did a hard reset. At least you wouldn't have wasted your time with having to set up your phone again!
Yes did indeed! Restarted both. But the fact that it's affecting 2 computers suggests to me that it's something wrong with the phone, and not computers themselves.
HTC haven't been any help as yet - just haven't responded to my requests.

The fact that it still doesn't work after a hard reset leaves me at a loss!
You're telling me!
Before anyone asks also, I've tried different cables and different usb ports on both computers too.
Any other thoughts out there? I'm starting to think now it's something inside the phone - i.e. the usb port?
Fixed for me!
After having sent off the phone to HTC, it was repaired in 8 days and that was sending it to and from Sweden to the UK!
Turns out the usb connector in the phone itself was not working. 10/10 for HTC repair service!
If you use the XPP OS.
You must select ‘To enable faster data synchronization’ (i dont konw how to translated that, sorry my English.) under the ActiveSyuc.
If you use the Vista OS.
You dont select this option otherwise you cannt connect you phone to computer.

Microsoft Corporation - Other hardware - PocketPC USB Sync
Download size: 11.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Recommended
Microsoft Corporation Other hardware software update released in May, 2007
At present, I'm confering with Microsoft about the issue I'm having with my Vista laptop. It finds the correct driver with windows update, but the driver fails to install even with a clean boot.... they're working on it...

I had the same problem and 'solved' it by trying every other USB port, and (of course) the last one did it correctly.

To make Active Sync work
Turn off Setup\other\USB to PC\ActiveSync Enable Faster Data Synchronization
The all will be ok
SOLVED!! Joy, joy, happiness glow... . I removed AVG 9.0, restarted, reinstalled WMDC and the driver (all of which installed automatically when I plugged my HD2 in to the USB port), and reinstalled AVG 9.0 and… Voila, MAGIC! I had AVG configuered correctly to allow WMDC to make connections and pass through the antivirus, but I still had to uninstall it to get the driver to install. Sometimes antiviruses are stubborn!
hi i had the same problem try this go to settings on your phone all settings connections usb to pc and uncheck the fast sync box if that dont work theirs an option that is somewhere on your pc where you can choose the pc to search for an update driver for that device

I tried BOTH of those options prior to uninstalling AVG and no joy. Bytheway, I've switched to Microsoft Security Essentials and still have to uninstall MSE everytime I flash my HD2! UGH!

HD2, windows 7 64 bit & WMDC 6.1

Hi,
I am in the UK, i just bought my HTC leo (known as HD2 here), reading through the instructions i was guided to install WMDC which i did, i had not plugged in the phone at this point and one error was thrown up saying device not connected which was easily explainable, so now i connect the phone expecting WMDC to jump up, it doesnt and never has, now i am no novice to these things and i have been in this forum a few years ago with another phone so i am well versed on searching for answers to my problem before making posts, so far all i can find on the problem is people reporting not being able to sync using office, this is not my problem as i cant even get the phone to sync with WMDC, i have tried other suggestions such as ...
registry key in question:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Svchost\WindowsMobile
- Right click -> Permissions -> Advanced
- Took owner ship of the registry key
- Gave the Users group Full Control.
Then in device manager:
- Uninstalled my Microsoft Mobile Remote Adapter
- Scan hardware changes
and then it installed properly and am able to sync again
but to no avail, i have uninstalled and reinstalled with the phone connected and unconnected, my pc seems to find the device but i dont think it is reporting it right, in device & printers the phone is seen as 'generic serial', when i do a properties on this it is said to be a 'pocketPC usb sync', when i connect and disconnect it does appear in the device manager under mobile devices, also if i just leave the phone, when the screen goes blank the device disappears from the device manager, i have tried uninstalling it from device manager and also updating drivers but it keeps saying the best driver for the device are installed, i have included some pictures and i am tearing my hair out over this, i bought this phone to replace my iphone but i am not to pleased yet.
Thanks.
Have you opened wmdc and setup a partnership?
Have you tried going into Settings->Connections->USB To PC and uncheck "enable faster synchronization"?
What ROM are you on, btw, Cooked or Stock? and what version?

Yes i have opened it but there is no way to set up a partnership as the phone is saying unconnected even though the pc seems to register its presence.

yes i did the disabling of fast sync, this is on stock rom out of the box its spl-1.42.0000, my plan was to install a cooked rom but i cant even get the phone to sync so i cant even do that to see if it will remedy the situation.
You can always install a cooked ROM as long as you can get to the bootloader...
Go to the bootloader...
Flash HSPL...
Use Task29 (Hex modified RUU.exe)
Flash your Cooked ROM of choice
I'm out of possible fixes for your sync problem though... I usually just uncheck "enable faster sync" and all is fine...
try this, if you haven't... as a last resort..
Uninstall WMDC
Reboot
Install WMDC
Reboot
Connect HD2 before your PC boots (with "enable faster sync" unchecked)
worth a try
no luck...this is highly frustrating
any firewalls up and running? I'm on Win 7 x64 and WMDC 6.1 is playing fine with Outpost Firewall
Good Luck and I hope you get everything sorted out...
IS your device configured to use the active sync as it might be in internet sharing, usb mode if this is set you wont be able to sync or connect right

Yes it is set to use active sync and faster sync is unchecked.
Have you tried hard resetting the device and then trying to reconnect it?
Ok, done the hard reset...still saying not connected on WMDC and phone is registering in device manager
Is the phone showing up correctly in device manager, should it be 'pocketPC USB sync' ?

Try to disable your antivirus. I use Kaspersky and I have same problem if I don't disable antivirus.
Disabled antivirus and firewall...strange thing is..if i uninstall it from device manager, when i reinstall it with fast sync enabled on phone it installs as mobile remote adaptor or something like that, if i reinstall with fast sync disabled it installs as pocketpc usb sync
What I did with my HD2 and W7 64-bit was just turn it on and plug it in! Windows downloaded, installed and configured WMDC automatically so I didn't have to do a thing!

Thanks for that...nothing like having salt rubbed in to the wounds lol... thats exactly what i did but not so lucky...anyhow...i just uninstalled the thing again for numpteenth time and scanned for hardware changes and went out the room...when i come back in it was alive...dont know what i did that was different though, i will renable my AV and firewall and see if it was that.
Thanks to everyone for your help
Didn't mean to sound so smart-arse-ish - I just always plug things into W7 and only if they can't get something working do I go driver hunting!
No i know you wasnt, i wasnt offended at all...its so nice to be able to just plug things in though, with windows 7 its been a breeze and this is the first time i have had trouble, hopefully thats the end of that problem and i can get going with some cooked roms....anything you can recommend ? seem to be so many, whats the most popular ?
Personally, take a look at the one in my sig - new version of it is out later this evening and its a great ROM. Gets rid of all the crapware no one ever uses...
Other than that, take a look at Duttys or Miri's ROMs - but the newest version are only on HTCPedia
Well...that lasted all of 3 minutes !....now its not connecting again...no logic what so ever
Right...seems it may have been the USB port, i was initially trying 2 ports, one was a front panel usb port which is connected via a pin header on the mobo, the second one was an extension lead to the back mobo mounted usb port which is usb3...so as a last straw i thought i would try the usb hub i have connected to the other onboard usb port which is usb 2..the hub is powered so i am left wondering if that was the issue.
