How do I get this deal on the Evo? - EVO 4G General

Like most everyone else here, I want this phone. Currently using a Helio Fin and can't stand it.
On the positive, Sprint is ending all Helio contracts, and is offering a sweet deal.
1. $50 towards any device (on top of all other discounts)
2. No credit check or deposit (because I had monthy service 1+ years)
3. Helio service and this deal ends on May 25.
My question is: Assuming the Evo is released on June 6, how do I get the Evo with this deal?
Notes:
1. I already called once, and I can't use this deal to pre-order the Evo because "the phone hasn't been released yet."
2. The letter with the deal has a phone number on it. It's Sprint sales.
A few ideas I had, with questions:
1. Get a CDMA(sprint) blackberry from eBay (to use until the Evo is released) and pre-order the phone from BB/RS/etc.
Will those stores honor this deal?
Can their systems do that?
2. Call the number and get the deal, then return the phone within the 30 day limit because of their 30 day "satisfaction guarantee".
Will I get the "new customer" price for the Evo after I return whatever phone I pick first?
Will Sprint even allow this?
3. Use a prepaid phone until the Evo comes out.
Thanks for any insight anyone may have about how to get this deal and still get the Evo.

Not positive this still works but if you buy a phone, and in 30 days decide you don't like it you can swap it out with a diff phone and pay the difference, again not sure if this still works

dare i say stop using a cell phone for 2 weeks?? i know crazy...
i actually just sold my nexus and had to wait 3 days to get this lg phone thing from ebay to hold me over til EVO time.
being 'off the grid' for three days was glorious!!

I didn't have a phone for 6 months, it sucks but you deal with it.

I currently have an iPhone and I fully intend on selling it to get the Evo.. iPhone's are not all their talked up to be..
Side note.. Been awhile since I've been on these forums..
Edit: And no, Radioshack will not honor these deals.. Radio Shack is a 3rd party dealer for Sprint.. Only a Sprint Corporate store would be able to(if they even can)honor that deal.. I work at The Shack.. And I can't wait to preorder this phone!

So this is the deal guys...today i try to go to best buy and radio shack and come to find out that i am not eligible for the evo until September and my wife phone until July next year i wanted to get two evos... so on april 19the sprint called me that they woud take 70 dollars off for each line if i agree to to be another 2 years with them and i was like ok sounds good i told rep that if i was going to have any problem getting the evo when it comes out soooo now i come to find out that i can not get the evo on release date .....sooo what do ytou guys suggest i do ..........oh yeah by the way i have to htc pro 2's
Aget somebody to get a new 2 year agreement and give them my htc pro 2 free and i get the evo
Bbuy it at full retail price ...... which i think im not cause its too epensive
CWait until retail price comes down
D just discontinue service with sprint
B or C are your best bets. If you sell the 2 TP2's you should offset quite a bit of the cost.
D - I don't really understand how this is going to help you get EVO's... It seems to be the exact opposite.
sell your tp2's, cancel your contract, pay the etf and buy the phones on a new contract. You could probably get $200.00-250.00+ each TP2 on ebay. Pay the ~50.00 to cancel your contract, ~150.00 for your wife's.
So:
+ 400.00 TP2 sale
- 200.00 cancellation fees
- 400.00 new EVO 4G phones
- 72.00 activation fees
= $272.00 total to get 2 new Evo's.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

Buy at full price now, come september use your upgrade to get another one and sell it on eBay.
Buy one Evo at full price. ($450)
Sell the TP2 on ebay (around $250)
Net outlay= $200 (same as you would pay to upgrade)
September, upgrade the other line to Evo or the next "latest-greatest"

Bingo. Not to mention that I don't think Sprint lets you cancel your service, and then reactivate it immediately. Isn't there a waiting period?

60 Days I believe.
Yeah I am doing the same for my Hero. I am going to have them replace it for a refurb because A. the battery cover does not stay on and B. there is dust under the screen.
Then I hope to sell my Hero on ebay for ~$230
Pay Full out for the phone $449
So that comes down to ~220
Not bad for getting a super phone basically on an off contract device. Does anyone know if I will get charged for another activation fee if I am activating a new phone on a contract?

For those on contract with no upgrade...There's Hope!!!

Ok I am one of the ones who copped the Hero back in October and don't have an upgrade until October 2010. But I want the EVO but definately don't want to pay $450 for it. Well I thought of every way possible to come into getting it but nothing would really benefit me. So as a last ditch effort I just decided to go to the sprint chat and take a chance. I am in no way saying this will work for anyone else/everyone else but just sharing what I did. (BTW I have been with sprint over 10 years)
Basically after getting on the chat, I pretty much laid out my case about how I don't understand why loyal customers like myself who for years have been loyal to sprint can't get in on the promotions, when new customers can reap all the benefits. I even provided numbers on the approx amount I have invested in sprint over the years, and I could tell the person agreed with my position because he really didn't have a response. I could see him start typing something atleast 5 times, then he would delete it or something but he never responded. After about 5 mins, he says one moment. Looks up my info and says well as a sign of goodwill I can give you $150 off the price and you can get it for $300. So he makes a note on my account and all I have to do it order it June 4th or whenever sprint starts taking orders and get it overnighted.
So I didn't end up with the $199 promotion but I did end up with something, and I still keep my upgrade in October. Just wanted to share in case anyone else was in my situation. HAPPY EVO HUNTING!!!!
That's awesome, congrats dude! Too bad though because I'm sure most people haven't been with sprint for ten years :\.

Yeah I been with them since they were just nextel. My first phone was the i-60 (I think thats what it was called). That dumb brick looking phone with the direct connect, lol.
That's the way to do it! I have been with Sprint since 2000 and have been a VERY loyal customer. Word on the street is that Sprint is hemorrhaging customers, so they have to do what they can to keep them.
If you talk with customer support and try to reason with them, they will be pretty helpful. You basically tell them that it's much more expensive and difficult to get a new customer than to keep an old one (this is taught in all marketing classes). If you talk to enough people and get high up in the chain (managers, etc), it will all work out.
I've been with Sprint for 8 years, so maybe I will hit up the chat and work for some pity.
Bypass all the low tier level CS an go straight to the top-Sprint Corporate. These guys have the power to do anything and everything to your account and super fast.
If you been with sprint more than 8 years they will work something out for you.
In my case in 5 minutes time I got my account reset for full upgrade path and qualify for rebate on the EVO.
My cost EVP Preorder:
449.00
-150.00 Upgrade
-100.00 rebate
Total:
$199.99
In Sprint Corporate they do believe loyalty should be rewarded.

Bro I'm willing to bet that when you get the Evo you will renew your contract.
Even if he renews his contract, I don't think that he will really be upset about it unless he planned on leaving Sprint.

I am using sprint only for half year. So I don't need to try any way. I just pay the full price or wait for Dec this year to get 75 off. I think I'll get the phone in full price, then sold my Hero, after Dec I can get another phone then sell it.
Well turns out my brother in law is eligible for an upgrade and he said that he would do it for me in exchange he wants my Hero; no cash (i already gave him my HTC Touch for free). Anyway, I went to the sprint site and they changed the way you can activate a phone from the last time I used it (a long time ago). now you can swap phones with one that is already on your account online. I was going to swap phones with my brother in law online but I see that we can't do that now. May have to go to sprint store to do this.
has anyone swapped phones with another account holder? did you have any problems doing it?

just have a third phone handy, i did with my uncle, when i upgraded from my instinct to the HTC touch pro..
I plan on adding a line to my family plan for $10 extra a month, giving my Hero to wife and my wife is giving her phone to my mom who has Cricket service After I get the new line with the EVO I will call Sprint and tell them that we want to change the phones around so I can have my number program to the EVO
I called a Sprint rep just 10 minutes ago and they said this is do-able
I'm happy for you that you got 150 off your EVO, but you weren't getting screwed. You already took advantage of the new customer pricing in october when you bought the Hero.
Again, I'm glad Sprint rewarded you for being a loyal customer, but people shouldn't come to this thread and get your hopes up. It's probably not going to happen for most of you.

Its your opinion, but i wasn't a new customer in October either. Think about it. I have been on one of the high end plans over 10 years. So I have been consistently investing in sprint for a while now. So anyone who reaps the benefit of the EVO coming from some other carrier or new to sprint is getting it for $199. They haven't invested a dime yet, but they reap the benefit now. Thats just how I feel. They didn't have to give it to me, i wasn't gonna leave sprint, but IMO its people like me who keep this company afloat and its also people like me who are often ignored because we have already signed a contract so no incentive to please us anymore. Not very good business but I understand thats how it goes.
Just keep in mind that if you swap with him before 30 days he will no longer be eligible for the $100 MIR.

Sprint Has No Sense of Humor (Won't Let Me Upgrade Early)

I have the Hero and like everyone else here am drooling over the Evo. Can't upgrade till October though, but it didn't hurt to ask for a little exception from the CEO himself.
Here's a link to my story of trying to upgrade early:

EDIT: Bottom line, if you're not eligible for upgrade, you're not getting an upgrade price. No exceptions. But, they're willing to buy your phone back for about $80 if it's a Hero.

I hadn't even thought of that. Although I seriously doubt anyone would pay $200 for a used hero but if so mine is still pristine.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not up for an upgrade till February so for the time being i love my hero and have no complaints except one. Why if ur making a phone would u put only a few hundred mb internal memory on it. I mean i can buy a flash drive for 5 or 10 bucks and it be 4 to 8 gigs. Kinda retarded if u ask me. That and keyboard lag.
Back on subject...if I really wanted to go to evo I'm sure I could call sprint and convince them. I've been with them for 13 years and it's always worked in the past if u threaten to go to metro pcs. I'm sure my account has some interesting notes in it cause I always get my way. Ill debate them until they get tired of me. Morons lmao

I've read various users on here selling their's for $200 BIN, although this was probably a little less than a month ago. With the ever-looming release of the Evo, this may have gone down..Although I wouldn't assume you would get any less than $150, especially since Best Buy is offering $211 (Last I checked) store credit for it.
Personally, I love my Hero. Running Fresh Toast, I benchmark only 1 mflop less than an N1 with 2.1...Perfectly acceptable to me. I'll pass on the Evo and see what comes after

I had a similiar issue about moving the upgrade date up, but I was only asking for a month. It took 3 calls and me talking to a supervisor to get them to give me the early upgrade. I think it helped that I was only 5 months away from being with them for 10 years. Either way, it was a real big hassle and we almost told them to stick it......But I held me ground and we did get the ealry upgrade. Ended up betting 2 heros for $99

Yes!! Dual-Core 1.5GHz Snapdragon phones!!! I may just hold out for these. Supposedly the first ones are due out by the end of this year. Contract upgrade time baby!
So sad that I am second guessing the EVO now. I love Top Of The Line stuff, but sadly with cell phones they get snuffed out quickly.
I think my problem is too many addicitions to spread my money around on. I need to get off the Coke and Meth....i've said too much.
Yes, from what I have been told they cannot give early upgrades but they can do other things. If anything, call them and tell them that if you can’t get an EVO you will terminate your contract and pay the fee. They’ll try to keep you with other options. I did this when the Hero came out and they gave me $20/mo off our plan for the next 24 months. Not too shabby. I don’t even feel bad because Sprint will rape you if you let them.
As far as the EVO, I’m waiting until Xmas to see what HTC releases. I would hate to get the EVO, only to find out that HTC rushed it so it could be the first 4G phone and releases one way better in December or the first quarter of 2011.

Man, I have gotten what I want out of Sprint every time I've tried (but I don't think I've ever asked for something unreasonable ) EXCEPT the time I tried to get my upgrade ONE DAY EARLY. Best Buy was doing a crazy sale and I spent 40 minutes outside outside the store on the phone with Sprint to no avail. Luckily the manager at BB was willing to honor the sale the following day and I ended up getting an unheard of deal on 2 hero's and a blackberry curve
i called in right before they released 2.1 and told them i was canceling becasue of the problems with 1.5(lmao) if they didnt reset my upgrade date and they did on the spot no problem

Simple as that? Wish i could talk to the people you did.

Early upgrade for the EVO

I wasn't due for an upgrade for another month but the local Best Buy had some white and black ones in stock, so I called Sprint and they moved my date up a month so I could go ahead and upgrade. This was 21 months in on one line and 11 on the primary line for the upgrades. Just thought if you are due for an upgrade then it might be worth your time to call Sprint and see if they will move your upgrade date so you can get the EVO if you can find it.
You just got lucky that you had a cool rep to do do that for you. I tried and they wouldn't go for it when they first came out. I had to pay an early termination fee for my Touch Pro in order to get my EVO.
When in doubt Sprint will always let you upgrade at least one month early. One thing you can do is call, talk to a manager and tell them how badly your current handset blows and you wanna upgrade. Normally you'll get some grief at first but if you threaten to cancel service and tell them you'll get an iPhone than they submit to your wants.

I was behind for an upgrade when I got mine. I just told sprint my problems with the pre and was really liking the evo, and would be willing to sign another 2 years I'd they could renew my upgrade date. I got my pre like 14 months ago. It helps to tell them that you're trying to decide on the evo and a phone on another network, for me it was the droid.

If you are with Sprint enough time, you can upgrade every 11 months. not even 12.
And I don't think any other company does that.

I've been with Sprint since before it all became digital and the days of the brick phones so if that's not long enough, I don't know what is.
I wasn't due for an upgrade until Sept 1, went to best buy on June 20th and they said I was eligible.......
If you pay over like 120 or 130 a month for Sprint service than you are a premier member. One of the perks of this is upgrades every year vice 2 years. You're also supposed to get priority in store service and you get accessories for like 25% off. There's more, just go check it out on Sprint's site.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
you're lucky. i was 3 weeks early to renew my contract as a premier member, but they would not renew it since i was getting an evo. they wouldn't even sell it to me straight up. i even got into an argument with the manager because i was getting different stories about me upgrading and/or purchasing the phone for full price. they only wanted new lines for the evo.
I had a week to go for my upgrade, but Sprint would not budge. I contacted the retentions department and the rep said the only way they would move my upgrade date up is if I had the BB representative call customer service and tell them that my phone was broke and that I was looking into the evo. Essentially they could replace my current phone and I was only going to keep it for a week and get the evo or they could save some money and move my upgrade date up. The customer service rep didn't resist the move.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I had to go through BB and open a new line on my account as a family plan. This is where Sprint falls short. Evidently in my area they don't practice what they preach. My Touch Pro broke a week before the launch of the EVO and I was even charged an early termination fee on a broken phone. This alone almost swayed me to go with Verizon but decided to give Sprint one more chance.
I was planning on adding a new line anyway when i was gonna get the evo. So when i went in telling the rep at the store i wanted just a case he asked why i wasnt getting the phone through them, to which i replied. i pre-ordered from best buy . 2 of them (one for me and one for my buddy). The rep asked how much i had put down i told him 50 bucks. he told me he would match that if i bought through them. I kinda hesitated, and told them i had pre ordered 2, to which he answered, we'll match that also. I went ahead and got them from the sprint store. thats not the best part, they gave me all sorts of discount (23% off my phone bill) and when i went to look at my phone bill the new line is already ELIGIBLE for an UPGRADE. and the old line i had (the Hero)is eligible in october, and they told me that i couldnt change main number or id lose the upgrade on the hero, but my evo is now my main line.. LOL i guess i win LOL. when the new phones come i dont have to wait or Early Terminate. HAHAHA

Ugh WTH ATT/Moto?

So ATT can't fix the recalled phones in-store at a corporate location? UGH!
My ATT contract has been up for about 2 months now. I wanted the Note 4 but now that Chainfire has said it will mostlikely not be bootloader unlocked, I've lost interest. Decide to wait on the Nexus 6. Missed pre-ordering so I decided to just pick one up today at my local store. Went to get one and was told they couldn't sell me one.
I can't afford to buy one outright, need do to a 2-year or Next and I really wanted to stick with ATT.
Went to order one online to get one hopefully on the way but now they are out-of-stock online! UGH.
Really sucky part is that my S3 broke about 2 weeks ago, screen is cracked and the digitizer doesn't work right so I can barely use it. I can answer calls but not place them or really use the phone.
Sad panda! :*(
Sorry to hear that, but you can always try T-Mobile. You can still buy it from them and can pay in monthly intervals for 24 months
http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones/google-nexus-6.html#Midnight-Blue
$0 down. $27 for 24 months (32GB), $29 for 24 months (64GB)
Do note that you will have to wait before it gets shipped, or you can call your nearby T-Mobile stores to see if they have any in stock.
T-Mobile loves you.
Sent from my Nexus 6
If this guy orders from T-Mobile, and gets his phone before I get mine (a 64GB ordered on 11/19, 8 AM CST), I'm going to lose my ^&*(.
EDIT: kdoggy, I wish you the best in your endeavors to get a hold of this phone...
I was in a similar situation a few months ago. My Galaxy S4 broke. I was still in the middle of my contract with AT&T and couldn't afford to replace my phone at full retail price. I was thinking about ditching AT&T anyway. I switched to T-Mobile. I I traded in my busted S4 towards a Nexus 5, got the unlimited plan and had all but a few bucks of my AT&T ETF paid off by T-Mobile and haven't looked back. Just got my Nexus 6 the other day.

What I did today was go into the store and do a 'direct fulfillment' order and basically ordered the phone. No idea when it will ship, but that way you won't have to keep checking online and also they can make sure and set up your plan just the way you want it etc. Make all the necessary changes. I would recommend doing it this way. The rep almost sold me the unit they had, but saw the notice on her screen or something. Was that close!
I can't really switch from AT&T. We have 3 other phones on our account and my wife is not willing to switch from AT&T and she does not want a new phone. She is happy with keeping her S3 Vs. paying for a new phone. She was all set to grab an S5 for $1.00 this Black Friday until she found out that we have been charged a "$25.00" dollar up-charge for the phones the past two years. She is enjoying the $15.00 per line right now and doesn't even want ME to buy a new phone.
Her and the kids just bought new batteries for their S3's so they have no plans to change. I use my phone for work though (state government, in the technology services field) so I have an excuse and justification for an upgrade. Also the state gives me a $70.00 dollars a month reimbursement towards my phone bill and I get a 20% discount for being a state gov employee.

Your other alternative would be to buy it from Motorola on Wednesday and get 6/12/18 month financing or to just wait for AT&T.

How does that work with Motorola? Now when you say Motorola, I assume you mean threw Google Play? How does the financing work?
I am also with AT&T, and a few months ago I was trying to pick up the Nexus 5 from T-Mobile. T-Mobile would not sell me the phone at all unless I purchased some form of service with them. Regardless of the fact the phone is unlocked; the reps stated their systems wouldn't allow a phone sale without accompanying service. So good luck buying from T-Mob.

No not through Google Play. http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/nexus-6-header/Nexus-6/nexus-6-motorola-us.html
When its in stock (Wednesdays) itll be available to buy. Its really tough from buying there and Google Play as it'll be out of stock and whatnot.
Financing is the same thing as you would on a carrier. You can pay out ~$649 + tax in 6/12/18 months (you pick) and you have to be approved.
