Hi! This has probably been asked and answered, but I couldn't figure out what to search for.
What I am trying to do is automatically configure all of my quicklinks. I use CoOkie's Home Tabs with 3 screens of 4x4 quick links and I have all 48 of the quick links used. I have screen shots so after I install all my cabs I just go and set all of them up according to the picture, but I want it to be all done by itself.
Is there an application that can do that for me?
Thanks
i do it by getting the tabs all set up, then use ceregistryeditor to browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\Home
in there is a folder for each quicklin space, numbered 0 - 70 something.
extract that whole key, and make a cab out of it. then, when you hard reset, once all your apps and such have installd run your links cab, and voila, quicklinks are back.

I Installed Resco File explorer and when trying to add registry add in it tried to install a theme file (.tsk) which opened the today management screen (where you can select different themes and select whats on the desktop.
Click the desktop tab (whats displayed on homescreen) and deselect HTC Sense then just tick what you want. At the top is the default windows mobile 6.5 homescreen plugin then all the program addons follow like co-pilot, mail, calendar etc then htc sense. Just choose your flavor..
I'm working at the moment but I'll try and elaborate more later, need to find a screenshot app first for pics.
Put any .tsk file on phone and run from explorer (Resco or otherwise) and the theme screen will show, select your pref (note you can not have HTC SENSE, Windows 6.5 Plugin enabled together, but plugins like calendar etc can without the aforementioned.
Hope this helps someone. (All HTC themed menu's n progs get disabled on deselecting HTC Sense but return on reselecting).

Or... click on Start/Settings/Menu/All Settings/Today/Items to access the menu you are talking about.
Sorry, have seen loads of people ask about this. Only had my phone around 4 hours. Just trying to help and do my bit. Mods you can close this thread. Sorry once again.
Hey, don't take it so personally! I wasn't putting you down in any way.
Keep posting what you find, I'm sure there is plenty more to discover with this phone.
Thanks mate.
Really loving it. Hope to contribute more once fully dissected. lol..
shortcut tab wont delete, i mark it to remove it but dont work
any way i can delete it another way
thanks
Fix for stubborn shortcuts which cannot be deleted
Below is tip 22 from the below link.
You don't need to add the "Vovichek_Jamrecords 16 TT UPDATE.cab" to apply the fix stated below.
"To remove some stubborn shortcuts which cannot be deleted, go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/Home and blank out the DispName, ExePath and IconPath in the relevant numbered folders to the shortcut you want to remove. Also change IsSet to 0."
22. Change Your Quicklinks from 9 to 16 Slots
Amazing tweak. Now have a 4 x 4 grid of quicklinks instead of a 3 x 3 grid. Install cab at bottom of post and reset. NOW UPDATED so will work with ANY wallpaper. Download the NEW Vovichek_Jamrecords 16 TT UPDATED.cab (168.4 KB) below. To remove some stubborn shortcuts which cannot be deleted, go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/Home and blank out the DispName, ExePath and IconPath in the relevant numbered folders to the shortcut you want to remove. Also change IsSet to 0.

Looks like this hack is needed for all but first 9 Quick Links
I have the same issue. It looks like you can remove any of the first 9 links without a hitch. It's all the other links (added by the CAB which gave us 16 or 20 links) that are not recognised by the 'Remove Quick Links' menu item.
I wonder if any WM boffins might know whether we can tweak something else in registry to enable the 'Remove Quick Links' feature for these additional links?
Before the bashing starts, I have used the search function, always do, but unless the title is done proper its very difficult to find what you are looking for.
Now to what I am looking for, if it exists.
As much as many of us love the animation on the HD2, its laggy and battery hog.
Has any one made a cab or can they make one that simple disables the animation part of the home screen, I know its clowdy out side i dont need to spend 20 seconds watching the clowds roll over my screen before the button I pressed actually works.
Hope this make sense, I want the weather to still show and so forth just get rid of the floating clouds or the windsheild whiper and so forth.. it will increase speed and increase battery.
Thank you in advance
Co0kies Home Tab adds a button to turn off the weather animations. Just add a quick link and it is in that first list. Not sure about a stand alone button cab.
I haven't been on a stock rom for some time but can't you just switch the wallpaper to an animated (nonweather) one? This will keep the clouds from popping up. Under settings, personalize...
in a registry editor browse to
HKCU/software/HTC/manila
Find the reg entry Home.WallpaperMode
set it to
0 for animated weather
1 for animated wallpaper
2 for plain (no weather)

k i have asked for this before, how do i access these reg files and in what program do I edit them? do you edit on the phone? or on pc then transfer it back in?
I want the weather to still appear just get rid of the animation part.
To the person up top who said to use settings, the animated wall paper still uses resources. I want to cut down on that.
and I dont want to add a whole program and change around the home page.. just a simple add on to disable or enable weather animation thats all.
Although the registry is technically a bunch of files, you won't see them as files. Think of it simply as 'the registry', not registry files.
For the easiest way to edit, download ceregistry editor. It runs on the pc, connects to your phone and you edit as you see fit.
For editing on the phone, I use resco, but its not free. Total commander is free and will do it, there are several others too.
ceregistry editor on the pc is the easiest tho.

Great info.. can you provide more step by step directions on how to use ceregistry? for first time so I dont mess it up. Im new but not that new, ive messed with reg files on the pc, its the saving transfering prat that messes me up with phone and you say connect phone, but once connected, how do move the reg file from phone to pc if i dont know were it is on phone to move it? see what I mean?
you dont move it, as i said its not files yuou can see, its a live set of data. You access it in the same way you might, for instance, access a database of names and addresses. You look at / edit the data, not move the files about.
download and install ceregistry editor
connect your phone
open cereg editor
click the very left hand button on teh toolbar (or click connection - connect , , or press f1.)
you see a tree view down the left, that is your main keys.
you are looking for HKCU/software/htc/manila (HKCU is short for HKey current user) so browse through it like you would a list of folders on the pc, till you find HKCU/software/htc/manila
in the list on the right, find home.wallpapermode and double click it to edit, , change the 0 to a 2, click ok, thats it, restart your phone, job done.
(if you are on a stock rom click tools - unlock registry if you get 'cannot edit registry' error)

give it a try, its basic stuff, no need to be fearful.
re: static weather, not that I know of. maybe theres an app that changes wallpaper in response to weather, but nothing I've heard of.

well you'll still see the little weather indicator right under the clock...you just won't see the full-screen effects like the big clouds, sunburst, raindrops, etc.

can someone add this to the sticky ???!!! very useful info !!!!
Hi All,
I am needing to customise a few things on our new HD2's automatically.
I've created a cab file that successfully deletes a bunch of unwanted shortcuts & make some changed to the IE favourites.
However, I want to disable HTCSense & also set a default background/wallpaper via a cab file, but I'm having trouble with this.
I've managed to semi do it via registry entries in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\
It appears to have disabled HTCSense & enabled the Windows Default 'today' screen. But I still get HTC Calander, Music, Footprints & Peep icons in the start menu, however they do not function. There are no .lnk files to delete to get rid of these...
And for the background, the registry entry is there & under settings\today it shows as being selected, but the wallpaper is not actually applying.
Thanks in advance!
So... Found the issue with the background/wallpaper... It doesn't actually use that registry key to select the wallpaper, its just for display on the Today settings page... grr...
Copied the relevant files to \windows\stwater_480_800.png & stwater_800_480.png & rebooted.
So now I'm left with getting rid of the HTC shortcuts...
Also, is there a way to force a reboot after installing the CAB file?
Cheers!

Ok, Newbie here. I have the Energy Sense ROM on my TMO HD2 and I have searched but no luck at finding what all I need for the HD Walls. Any help would be appreciated.
Are you sure that ROM doesn't have Cookie's Home Tab (CHT) baked in? If it does, you don't need HDWall beacuse that functionality is included in CHT's latest version.
If the ROM doesn't have that already, I'd recommend you just getting CHT anyway, it incorporates HDWall's methods, among others, and is a great tool to have around in general.
I used to use HDWall by itself all the time, but it's fairly complicated, and it's so much easier now just to use CHT to get the same effect.
ya its got the latest cht already. i kinda thought that but wasnt sure.so what else do i need to create wallpapers? is there a cab for the program i need on the desktop? sorry for the lack of knowledge, just couldnt find anything on it.

Check out the CHT thread, there's info there on the different ways you can do that, it's done through the CHT interface.
EDIT: Here's the link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483
You'll also want to check out the companion tool for that, Cookie's Home Tab Editor (CHTE). You probably have that as well on your ROM, it extends the functionality of CHT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633590
Thanks! Now I just need to find the program for my desktop to create the wallpaper and create a cab file right? If so where can I find these at? If I overlooked it my apologies.

No, you don't even have to do that, you just need to have the image you want to use saved on your phone somewhere (like in a "wallpapers" folder on your SD card, for example), and then you use the options in CHT to choose that image and apply it as the background on your phone. CHT will apply it on all tabs, and even skin the top and bottom bars for you, like HDWall would do.
I switched from using HDwalls to strictly CHT a while ago. It is much less problematic and easier to change wallpapers.
I don't suggest keeping your wallpaper in your SD card but copy it to the "wallpapers" folder in my documents. If you have it plugged into your computer (i do a lot) and reboot the phone it won't find the wallpaper on your SD card as it can't see the SD card because it it plugged in. Yeah, clear as mud.. anyway.

Very good point decim8, and I hadn't though of that...I had assumed that it cached the final wallpaper somewhere on the phone, but it's probably true that having it on the SD card will prevent the image from being usable whenever you're connected in disk drive mode to a pc over usb.
ok, I think Im a retard. I open CHTE and switch to HD wallpaper, reset the phone. I have saved the photo I want under the wallpaper folder on the device, and cant seem to figure out how to set it. The set wallpaper option goes away once I set it to HD and when I go to the photo and try and set it to the wallpaper the only option is todays background and I only see it when Im in the start menu. All tabs are black background and cant change to anything else.
From your home screen...
Hit the Menu soft key and then Set Wallpaper at the top.
Under the Home Tab section, tap the first thing, Portrait... and browse to the location you saved the image. Repeat as needed for the other sections.
Worst case, hit Albums, All...
It doesnt give me the option to set the wallpaper from my home screen (not able to be selected). It is an optoon when Im not trying to use HD though.
Sounds to me like you still have HDWall selected in CHTE.
Select Menu (soft key at bottom of home screen)
Select Co0kie's Home Tab Editor
Select Miscellaneous settings
Scroll down to the "wallpaper Mode" section. "HQ Wallpaper" should be selected, not "HDWall"
Please double check that this is the case. With this option selected you should be able to select "set wallpaper" with the Menu softkey.
EDIT: I have landscape on my home screen enabled via BSB tweaks and "set wallpaper" is not available from the menu when in landscape mode. Works fine in portrait.
Thanks!!!!!!! See I told you I was a retard. I did have HD selected instead oft the HQ like I should have. Thanks for all the help
Edit: The wallpaper is working correctly BUT when I try to set the Skin Taskbar and Softkey bar it gives me an error. Says "Out of Memory Exception"? The phone is no where near out of memory. I cant win for losing.
