help I have over 21 Trojand etc - HD2 General

Awarning just appeared on my hd2 saying my device has viruses. Was directed to Microsoft automatically and a message appeared that attempts to remove it. Is this normal ?.

Almost every folder had a Trojan etc written in red. Don't know if they were removed. Any quick checks possible. Hard reset?.

Just downloaded airscanner trial version. it gave the all clear. The microsoft site was asking me to download some exe files to replace the infected files. How do I know airscanner even works ?.

are you on stock rom or are you a custom rom flasher? either way, i suggest a task 29 and fresh rom flash, just to be on the safe side.
If not, just back up stuff, hard reset, and format your SD card too to be on the safe side
Unless someone else can clarify, that sounds quite scary, i have yet to hear of anything like that

Something popped up on your HD2 saying you have trojans? I've never heard of that... what do you have installed? I don't think there is any type of antivirus scanner on the HD2, so I don't know why anything would pop up on your HD2. Are you sure it's sending you to a microsoft site? This sounds like one of those fake virus spyware things that get you to install the virus when you go to the site it takes you to to get rid of the virus.... but I've only seen those on PCs... never on WinMo.

I have never actually read about cell phone viruses. I have vaguely heard via word of mouth that they are possible, though.

check the url of the microsoft website..it will not be the original one I suppose. There is hardly any virus written for Windows mobile..so either you are one of the lucky guys who come in taste of some new spyware which nobody heard of before or..or..I dont know but its very scary indeed.

If you do find anything I would very much like to get a sample. Please PM me if you can verify you have an infected HD2.
[Edit]
By the way, how did the message appear, through Opera/IE or a standard Windows Mobile messagebox?

lmfao!
I bet he got it in the web browser, one of those stupid banners trying to scare people and directing them to dodgy sites.
21 trojans? in every folder? LOL

that was my first thought too

"Internet Security 2010" I believe is the current rendition...

Hi and sorry for the late reply. I deleted all cookies, history etc in a panic straight away so I cannot verify if was a genuine microsoft site. I was at the time browsing for dvd rippers, logged of but my WiFi was still connected. I had seen that I had gained a mysterious extra 50mb on my device. So I started deleting stuff I don't remember having. Suddenly the warning appeared saying somebody can access my details and all these folders appeared with loads of Trojans etc. Then it said microsoft giving me a exe file to download and to click it. In s panic I reset my ppc. The last thing I had downloaded was the day before which was pocketdivx . Phone seems ok do maybe nothing happened. Thanks for the replies.

The only WinMo virus I know of is a dialer which calls certain numbers at a certain moment of the day. Other than that, i SERIOUSLY doubt the actual existence of any other forms of viruses.
IMO, it`s just a stupid app yelling things such as "OMFG 21 VIRUSES BUY THE FULL VERSION SO WE CAN GET U RID OF THEM!!!!11!!1", and after you buy it, every virus magically gets eradicated, leaving the phone "clean". God, I hate this things...
EDIT: Quick thought... 21 viruses/folder means that there are 21 files, all of them having AT LEAST 1kb (the size of an empty text file). Seriously now, can you see any suspicious files in any folder? Exactly. You can't.

do you guys install anti virus or firewall on ur PDA?

do you guys using any firewall or anti virus on ur pda?
Naah,
I tried almost all of them, it just take space on your device. And i never caught any virus or something like that before......
I think its a precaution, that no one actually uses....
My opinion
Some people use a call firewall!
pc virus's dont work so virus's have to be spc made for wm
and PIE which most people use is soo useless it dont have features which could have
holes so website virus's could get in
and i generaly dont click on files people mail to me

haha me too
call firewall great..
when u have another gf.. 2 gf
when u go out with 1gb on call firewal block the another gf
hahaha
Also good to block people who disable caller ID. I find these are usually people trying to sell something, so it is not a bad idea to block them... and I only know one private person who disables caller ID and they are friends of my parents so never call me.
...or if you are in another country and will only want close friends and family to be able to ring you (roaming charges and all that).
I have SPB Phone Suite installed for the notifications, but there's a call firewall installed by default. I don't use it normally (advertising phone callers are currently not a problem), but I would probably use it when roaming.
As for viruses etc..., I am not really that worried yet. There is no particular market leader which makes device specific problems hard to exploit. Even if my phone caught a virus, I don't know anyone else with a WM phone in my address book, so it wouldn't propagate from me and I doubt it would reach me in the first place.
So I am not worried yet, hard a hard reset is quicker than a windows re-install, especially with backup software :s
I used once almost 4 months. Never detect a single virus around,so I just remove and now running with anti-virusfree.
LOL...
A Trojan call...
None of the above......
Until I see objective evidence to warrant it, is when I'll start using it.
used to have F-Secure antivirus and spyware, but it never did much, so never bothered re-installing after a hard reset.
I think this falls under the same reasoning why Apples "don't have virus problems" like PCs. If you're some malicious jerk ass the creates viruses who do you want to target? 90% of the world (pc), 5% of the world (Apple), or less than 1% (WM).
All numbers are completely made up.

Flexilis Mobile Security Beta

Hey Everyone,
Wanted to tell all of you about a neat app we're developing, called Flexilis.
It's a mobile security suite for Windows Mobile devices, that keeps your device and data safe from loss, theft, hackers, viruses, malware, spam, and more.
We've currently opened signups for our private beta testing, if you're interested in checking it out, just hit up http://beta.flexilis.com and sign up, and feel free to chat about the product here
If anyone has questions or runs into trouble, just shoot us an email at [email protected] and we'll help you out!
-Chris
Community Director,
Flexilis Inc.
[email protected]
Also, if any of you request an invite and it hasnt gotten granted within a day or so, let me know and I'll take care of it.
If you weren't asking for so much personal information, you might actually get people to try your app...
we're actually working on revising that, the reason we ask for the phone number is because it's used to sms you your download link for the software later on in the process, we're in the process of moving that to later on in the process, as well as an explanation of why we ask for it.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey man,
nice thing with this soft, that we give the phone number is not so a big problem i think. could you post a little bit infos about the program? Cause on your side there a not many informations.
But i ithink i'll give it a try...
I just have one little question, on you privacy page you write:
When you use the Flexilis Services, our servers automatically record certain information about your usage. These logs may include information such as the IP address, mobile device identification number, phone number, operating system, version information, wireless carrier, web requests, browser type, browser language, referring pages, landing pages, pages viewed, or other usage information.

Why do record the pages we visit?
we're still working on a little bit of a tour/walkthrough area of the software on the front page, as we get closer to public beta, but for now there's nothing there yet. My first post in this thread gives a brief summary of it though. Feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected] with any questions!
-Chris
There's nothing in the software that tracks the pages you view or anything, what that refers to is on our end we track what pages users use on the flexilis website the most, much the same way other websites do, to track what pages and content on our site our most popular, etc.

I'm still not sure what your program do, but it certainly doesn't behave the way I expect.
1) Why to require authorization so often?
2) Contrary to the stated phone number is not accepted for authorization. Only email.
3) I don't really know what you mean by "a few minutes", but currently Flexilis is authorizing my phone already for more than two hours. I see no progress bar and I don't understan what's going.
4) I can't stop authorization process.
5) Why the authorization process continues even when I close all connections? Did you invent new method of communication?
6) The program is hidden from task managers and process viewers. What for?
I didn't sniff the traffic but currently behavior of your program reminds more of malware rather than security software.
My conclusion: As I don't understand what your program is doing, I'm not going to test it anymore until additional guidance is provided.
Sorry, if I'm sounding harsh. It's just writing style (tough work, you know )
No worries
1] once it's authorized the first time, it shouldnt have to authorize again, what kind of phone are you authorizing it on? we're making some fixes to the authorization process to make it even simpler that should roll out in the next release.
2] if you're outside of the US, you might need to add your country code and such if that's the case, let me know, or send me an email to [email protected] so we can look into it.
3] per all authorization questions, it'll try til its authorized, again we're fixing this.
4] per the it being hidden from task managers, we've given this some discussion, for right now it's a security feature to try to prevent theives from disabling the software, though we might fix that in the future to have the app visible in there somehow.
As far as being more indepth on all of the features, we are working on a tour of sorts to explain it all before the beta goes public.
Thanks for the feedback!

Authorizing a device ... what a hassle. I finally gave up since I couldn't tell if it was doing anything. No more testing for or feedback from me.
fredcatsmommy: sorry it didnt work out for you. hopefully in the future when that's fixed (should be less than a week), we can lure you back, it does some amazing stuff, but we do run into bugs from time to time due to the vast number of windows mobile devices out there, and only having a small test bed of them to work with. Keep your eyes peeled, and we'll have that fixed soon!

I think you need to tell us what the app actually does?
I have read this and your site and still don't know what it does?
Will hold off on trying it till I know.
How long is the initializing and activating supposed to take?
seriously, the authorizing bugs should have been worked out before releasing a beta here. we cant even tell if its running, authorizing, stealing information from our devices, etc.. I surely hope this is a legit app youre pushing, if so, FIX IT, so we can at least see what it does.
thx
I installed and authorized with no issues what-so-ever... contrary to what everyone else is saying everything seems to work just fine. works great and doesn't seem to take much memory... not a single complaint here!
Advertising your application for beta purposes is usually not a problem. But, it seems you are here more for "recruiting" testers than anything else. Looks like you joined for this purpose only.
My suggestion to you, is to give a little more description on your develpoment. Seems there are too many questions going unanswered here.

I have an HTC Mobul/Titan using default Rom/Radio with WinMo 6.1
To install it I just did what I would any other and installed it onto internal memory...
Correction: The application works just fine if you don't have push e-mail (aren't connected to a remote exchange server), I have been having problems all day with my push e-mail from mail2web which I use to forward my work e-mail to my phone. I have therefore decided to remove it as I can't afford to have it interfere with work.

More importantly, anyone else getting a virus hit on the file by the name of WS.Reputation.1?
I posted on this subject in the development thread.
I wasn't sure if this subject belongs here or there.
Now comes an article raising the possibility of the phone being blacklisted on the marketplace when MS detects the unlock has taken place:
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/11/25/windows-phone-7-unlocker-released/
Worse than a virus hit. I actually got it. It changed my host file by adding a couple localhost redirects... Every time I clicked on a Google seach result, it would redirect me to some crappy excuse of a search engine. Relatively easy to fix though.
no virus hit and havent encountered the redirect problem... am wondering the same with the blacklist issue but i guess it will be a wait and see as with most unlock/jailbreak issues...

While MS might know if you unlock your phone to sideload apps I don't think they'll take the step of banning a user completely from the marketplace. Doing so would backfire because there is no way this user is ever going to pay for an app; he'll be forced to look for cracked ones, not something MS would want.
Also from this message, it doesn't seem they are taking this sideloading business too seriously, which is good. Now XDA, please bring on some goodies. I need a File Explorer and a Media Player like free version of old Core Player

i THINK THAT WOULD DEPEND ON JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE UNLOCK THEIR PHONES... KILLING A FEW THOUSAND TO SEND A MESSAGE MIGHT JUST BE WHAT MS DOES..

All that ranting, but no information as to what is actually going on. Are you getting an error message? FC?
Still getting ads.....
AFAIK, adfree simply adds a hosts file with the add servers in it, in which case you are seeing adds because either the servers changed or there are new ad servers that haven't been added yet. Devs need incentive to do the work they do, so just be happy that you can even get good apps for free and deal with it.

An app is only as good as it works. I have run into the same issue as the op recently. Also I'm getting real tired of reading these smart ass remarks at the end of posts here to just like yours. Its unnecessary!
hey.. try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919040
The above methods seem to work for me. I've never used adfree btw...
There is something odd going on with hosts. I have the same problem as you that ads continue. I have traced mine to the fact that the hosts file is continually overlaid by the default blank one. It appears there is some component that continually scans this and wipes it.
I posted this problem a couple months ago but never got a response. The best I did was install GScript Lite and create a script to copy my saved off version of the ad-free hosts file back over the real one. It is not a good solution but the only one I have. I suppose the ultimate solution would be a different ROM. But that would just trade the problem I understand for an unknown number of ones I don't.

i dont use adfree
ive never had an ad using this hosts file
extract it from the zip, and put it in system/etc
enjoy
Has anyone tried enabling the AdFree option to symlink to /local/data (I think? forgot the exact path it gives in the app). I use that and have never experienced any problems with this on Ice Glacier.
It works for me, perhaps its a device specific problem.

While I somewhat agree with your post, I agree with jdkoren's more. All of the apps you are blocking ads for were free, free because of the ads that help fund the development of the apps. So I think he's just saying, if you can't block the ads, accept it, you have all those apps at no cost... Everything we experience, this forum, these custom ROMs, market apps, all took great amounts of time and effort, I think sometimes we lose sight of that when we think about open source projects.

virus?

I know it's possible to get malware from installing certain apps but can you get it from going on certain websites like on a pc? I think I went on a website that could possibly have had a virus, but is there any way of knowing if I have one or not? I just downloaded webroot and lookout free versions but I'm not sure if they protect from bad websites.
You can't get a virus by visiting a website on either a pc or tablet unless you click yes or accept some java thingy
There is a free ativirus i think on market

This is not necessarily true, there are from time to time very critical bugs and exploits one can use to automatically set up a virus by just visiting a site, afaik. Those viruses are often OS and Browserspecific though. So just make sure everything is uptodate, and you're good to go
I don't think you should have much concerns about malware on android, as long as you don't download and install every app you come across.
