So, I'm not sure what to make of this email, I'm wondering if it's because I recently updated to the AOSP 2.1 ROM that Darchstar is working on. I certainly didn't buy a Nexus One, but I hope by some stretch of luck that I'm getting one for free! Nah, will never happen
Here's the email:

Hmm, I never got one of those...It would sure make me feel special if i did though! lol
Yeah I got one to when I wad running that Rom too
I also recieved an email like that but I was running Fresh 1.0
ugh...knew it was too good to be true.
I'm gonna wait for the HTC desire/supersonic anyway
Yeah got it too with the darchstar AOSP 2.1, hopefully we don't get charged the early termination fee from google if we change to a different rom.
Lol I got one too. I think its really funny If only I had a cmda nexus one
I got an email from Steve Jobs telling me how I had made an excellent decision by sticking to an Android based device. What a guy.
i got the same email this morning after installing 2.1 last night.
lol
i got that email too. weird, huh?
Did it actually show up in your gmail box on the web, or was it just in your phone, kinda like microsoft does when you first set up an email, it puts a welcome email in your inbox.
I got one too

It was in my web based gmail inbox, although it could have come to my phone's box first.
Was in my web gmail too. It happened when I loaded the 2.1 AOSP, so maybe it thinks I have nexus one because it is only device that runs 2.1 out of box?

It would have been MUCH cooler if somehow Darchstar had hacked a way for us to get free Nexus Ones

I been Drooling over that phone since it was just listed as a WiMax device. I live in Vegas, and already have Clearwire for internet, would love to get 4G on my cellular!
I have Optimum for internet, but 4G on the Supersonic would be sa-weet!
Edit: I cant post the link but a quick Google search of Motorola Offering Droid X Owners Free TouchDown Exchange Licenses will give you the webpage.
Sorry if this has been posted but anyone have any experiences?
My e-mail/ calendar/ exchange has been abysmal on the DroidX.
thanks
When Verizon themselves give an Android phone to one of their employees, Touchdown is what they use to connect to VZW corporate Exchange email. Probably the best endorsement there is.
got a link?
do a basic google search. "droid x exchange issues'. u cant lose

Just copy and paste the italicized portion of OP post in google and it will come up with what you want.
Has anyone else seen this or tried to get the free software?

The reply email said "You should expect a response from us within 24 hours", but it has been 2 days and I still haven't heard anything. I will let you know how it pans out.
They updated that to 48 hrs due to heavy call volume.
I downloaded Touchdown (its a free 30 day trial) and im loving it so far. Everything a spartphone/ exchange e-mail system should be.
I would have liked LED notification but ok...

Yes, my license should be arriving today. I was one of the first unfortunate X users to report the problem to Motorola. There are two problems with exchange on the X (both are the result of Moto messing with AOSP software as part of their Blur implementation)...
(1) If your exchange server does not require SSL, you will not be able to connect (true for Exchange 2003, possibly others)
(2) You may receive Exchange items, but notifications may not trigger properly
Bottom line is that Moto screwed it up with Blur, and they are offering Touchdown licenses as a stop-gap measure until Froyo is released.
FYI, you can also resolve the issue by rooting your device and pushing the AOSP Email.apk and CorpCal.apk to /system/app
I will sometimes get my notifications but then sometimes I won't. The other problem.I am seeing is that the push email is not always working for incoming emails. I will have to open the app sometimes before it will refresh he emails. Yet Gmail seems to get my phone right when it hits their server. Never had this with my touch pro 2.

Requested mine Friday, got it today.
First I would like to say I have been looking through XDA for about three/four months now, but haven't posted anything. I had the HTC Leo (HD2) from T-Mobile, but did not have coverage in my area (plus, WM was a turn-off...lol). So I switched to AT&T and got the BlackBerry Torch. After about 20 days with it I got bored of the lack of "good" applications in App World. So I decided to get a Motorola BackFlip...but when I saw the Samsung Captivate, I was in love. I have been programming for well over six years, but about two years ago got into Java (for the BlackBerry development, I had a BB Storm at the time). Android application development is pretty similar to the BlackBerry's (as I expected), so I'm pretty confident in my programming skills with Android.
Enough of my introduction, my point is I would like to contribute to the XDA Community...to give back something from everything I've gotten. I have two ideas:
1) Get application ideas from the XDA Community, anyone that contributes will get the application for free.
2) Help out some project such as KiteUI, or start one myself.
All feedback is appreciated! Thank you for reading!
Welcome to forums
Nice introduction
Howdy, Nick. I'm trying to start a project myself, but I've had no takers so far. I'm hoping to find a developer here on XDA and get feedback and ideas through a beta release to the forums. Interested?

Outlook App fior Android (working on 1.5 on) and a sync app that doesn't rely on the cloud!
I would really appreciate the following:
1. Ability to change fonts within the phone without having to go into clockwork and flashing zips. Some fonts are too massive for a small screen end too much scrolling is required.
2. A good google reader app and widget.
3. Better email and lock screen apps and widgets. Unified email inbox would be extremely valuable.

Thanks for the feedback! They all seem like great ideas. I'll start working on one and PM you when it's finished.
Nice intro. Wish I had mad skills (or rather any skills, LOL).
Anywho, I would love to see an unread email widget(s) that can show unread count from any and all email clients available on android currently, specifically default email client & yahoo, and of course gmail. I would that you could customize the icons and optional text colors.
Something like the current SMS unread count available in the market, only better just an idea.

I have been looking for two apps...
1. A descent Facebook application with push notifications for messages tha unlike the original app, actually works.
2. I cant find any DeviantArt applications to see my own profile, in fact, i cant find ANY DeviantArt application. That would be neat
I have noticed most people are having problems using htcsense.com with the HTC Desire HD and I am no different. They appear to be upgrading there server but why is it taking months? as people have been having problems for months now.
I sent htc an email about htcsense.com and this is the response I had
"Over the past few months HTC has been undertaking an upgrade to HTCSense.com in order to enhance the web experience for our customers, extend service availability and increase service quality and uptime. During this upgrade process some people may experience some fluctuation in the services and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are implementing an update in the next month that should minimize most service problems. Currently, accounts have these main features: find my phone, call and message forwarding and lock and erase my phone. Over the next few months as we complete the upgrade, more features will be added into accounts. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to make the HTCSense.com experience even better."

Effectively, it is still a beta service from the sounds of it. Services like that require a lot of testing, and the best way to test it is by releasing it to everyone. Massive load on servers, means they can upgrade/tune it as needed.
Mine says that its not enabled on my phone and it gives you the relevant steps to enable, but it is all active on the phone, is this down to this server issue/upgrade issue? I'm not to bothered but be nice to know the service is there (and working) if god forbid it got lost or stolen.
Anyhow thanks for the information.

I had that problem too after I started using custom ROMs. Fortunately I found out that if I deleted the account on the phone aswell as on the website (htcsense.com) and used the phone to create it again, then it works. Try that
- Martin
It used to work for me the first time, now my phone is not found anymore and no action works. The only thing I keep getting is that anoying "Friends - contacts matches" crap that doesn't even work right. I'm using stock rom, not rooted or aything. Also country selection is a complete fail since not all countries where HTC phones are sold are listed, so I always select UK. They really should fix this service soon.
I had to factory reset my phone to fix a CPU utilization issue, Now after re entering the HTC account info, the gps phone location bit on HTC sense does now at least show a map, but thinks I'm in Africa... admittedly I haunt used the gps to update so will try that but functions like ring phone just fail... so better but not great....
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hmmm now its working ok, but the gps location thing keeps coming on on its own so that's annoying so yeah try re-installing the app and or re creating the account.
I do.d the friend link thing ok, not part of HTC sense online service tho =]
Hope you sort it! Or it gets sorted!

I do not suggest to use htc sync. Its totally crap. Many have encountered problems and even lost data. Even htc rep admits its still a work in progress.

I totally agree, I installed it so I could transfer my contacts from Outlook onto my DHD. It just says Outlook was preventing it, but I could see nothing wrong, ended up saving the contacts out as a file and sending it over Bluetooth.
It's a shame HTC sense on the phone and the hardware is prity flawless, the pc and online software is really setting the game down.
Hopefully they sort it out with updates.

Hi
Got my Desire HD yesterday guys, I'm in Ireland. Surprise surprise HTCSense.com cannot locate my phone even though all the settings are turned on etc. I e-mailed them and got the usual about the service being upgraded yada yada!!
I read on the Teachradar review (http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-desire-hd-717295/review?artc_pg=9) that this was an issue back in October as well, cannot believe its still not fixed :-(
Cheers,
M
PS: Love my Desire HD but would love to have the find my phone feature actually working too!!
Ok this might help you if you are having issues with htcsense.com :
First htcsense didn't pork for me on FireFox 4 hut worked perfection IE9 no idea why put must be something related to plungins
Second the location service didnt work for me despite ableing the location on my settings, well actually that was due to my HD2 running desire HD Rom and in which I used my htcsencse account. Once I removed the Android from my HD2 I reinstalled a different desire HD Rom on it without login the htcsense, the location for my desire HD worked.
In the Corporate (Exchange) mail. There is NO SEARCH button. I cannot find it on any menus either. I did download touchdown and am able to search in there but either I can't find it in the regular email program or it's a huge blunder by the Honeycomb team and they forgot to include one.
Sorry this has never been a feature of stock Android, ever. Not to say that it won't come, but they just haven't ever included it for whatever reason.
Pure speculation, but i think the search is missing because it would be restricted to messages downloaded to the xoom, missing anything residing on the server, reducing the usefulness of the search results.
For example, searching my gmail inbox from the mail app on my iphone never gives me anything past 10 recent emails.

You might try using K9 Mail. They just released an update to make it compatible with honeycomb albeit not optimized.
I have XOOM and will probably return it because of this problem. FYI the built in Apple IPAD email reader is able to search local exchange mail correctly. Also the IPAD reader has a very useful preview funciton that I am used to in exchange and neither the built in email reader nor touchdown have this feature. bummer!
not included in the first honeycomb OS update
Well, my xoom just received the update to prepare it for the 3/18 adobe flash download -- email search was not included in this upldate. I too really miss this feature.

Think "Software platform", and then go download K9, it's free, or buy Touchdown. One does not have to rely on stock apps.
@Bauxite ...
WRONG... vanilla froyo and gingerbread (as well as all versions before that i think?) have ALWAYS had stock email search capabilities as well as systemwide searching. have you ever looked at just about every android device with the harware spyglass button at the bottom??
whats up xoom/motorola/google? this could be a dealbreaker for most people including me.
no email search
Pretty poor coming from a company who is al about search.
Is there any update to this?
I have an ASUS Transformer and it is VERY annoying not to have search functionality in the browser. I use IMAP and not Exchange so I can't figure out how to make Touchdown work either (plus I would rather not pay money)
Fix this, Google!!
