Magic with 2.1 caller id problem - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi,
My problem is that i am located in a country where there are 7 digit numbers.
If i flash a 2.1 android rom without HTC sense i do not have any issues on caller id- meaning if i get a call from example : number 7770777 caller name shows and on sms as well.
If i flash a legend dump for ex android 2.1 with HTC Sense i get the caller id issue - meaning
if i save a number 7770777 - name will show on calls but on sms with not see name but rather +2307770777 (country code at first) and vice versa.
To solve this i have to save one contact with 2 phone numbers one as 7770777 and other as +2307770777 to be able to see names upon sms and calls.
I have 1800 contacts and it is bumming me out!
I know it is located in the android kernel or system somewhere - one of my deductions is of the ++(libsqlite.so file)++.
I like to have the help on this like which file do i have to modify or any commands or any tools needed to do this. I dont mind donating if i get help from you guys.
Thanks a lot!

same here
i have the exact same problem.. i hope someone can find a solution for it

someone must have a solution ??
i have exactly the same problem. there must be a way to change the number of digits used for caller id.
HELP

found something, but need help
i've found an interesting link:
h__p://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/external/sqlite.git;a=commitdiff;h=3fffdd3714c6d4de821269bcefb65d897151c2f2;hp=7bb17d6e6c99d4b2fa23ab57020cef4040373b24
something to do with MIN_MATCH, but i have no clue on how to change that on the phone itself

You don't need to save both numbers. Just the one with the country code is enough.

Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

thanks, but doesnt work. most of my numbers are stored international format but when i receive a local call (while in the country) it displays as 01234567 not +ccc1234567.therefore unfortunatly the problem remains.

Problem Solved
Hi everyone,
The problem is solved for me! A developer i work with, created a patch for sms problem unfortunately it only works in my country. It seems HTC in its database has wrong info and has my country in 8 digits whereas here its 7 digits. So the developer created a fix that corrects the problem by intercepting the sms before it displays then pulling out the 7 last digits and thus problem solved however its a fix and cannot upload as it is already in my phone.
Basically i recommend asking a dev to help you on this. It modifies or adds a database file thats all i know. I paid him to do the job. I hope this helps you guys somehow. If you need more info feel free to contact me. Also pl note that the there was a time issue . The system time showed the good time and widget was 1hour in advance he fixed that too. Problem was weather and time are directly related in HTC Sense roms. Its the database of htc which is wrong for some countries. That is gmt +5 instead of gmt +4

I know this is an old thread, but in case someone's still looking here go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160343

SMS comes with a country code

Hi all,
I've got this problem on my Dev Phone 1 - the "From" number of any SMS I receive has a form of "+<countrycode><operatorcode><number>", instead of just "<operatorcode><number>" or "<number>". It doesn't get looked up in an address book because of this.
I've never had this problem with any other phone, and it's really annoying - most of the time I have no idea who sent me a message.
Thanks in advance
I'm not sure about the dev phone in particular, but T-Mobile has always recommended storing contacts in that format. Google may have taken the hint from them when they spec'd the OS. In that sense, it might not be a bug, but a feature.

Thanks for replying.
Well, I tried storing the number with +<countrycode>. The result is that SMS senders are looked up correctly, but the incoming call caller doesn't get looked up now. So, it's "either SMS sender name, or Caller name" situation.
I tried it with sim cards from two operators (with different callers / senders), same results.
isn't it one of the main differences between US and UK firmware?

Sorry about that. It's Georgia (country, not the state), the operators are Geocell and Magti. I'm using stock adp1 firmware.
Maybe it has to do with operators using different formats for calls and SMSes.
The calling numbers are in 8<operatorcode><number> format, but SMSes come from +995<operatorcode><number> (I forgot about the leading 8 in the original post, sorry).
Note that my previous phone (Nokia N73), and every other phone I've used, and all of my friends' phones have absolutely no problems with that.

Thanks for the link.
The only place I could find a setting for a country was in google account settings (timezone and an optional country field). Didn't make any difference (I did a sync and reboot).
I found this link, but I'm not sure if it's related - maybe just an old Windows Mobile issue.

very annoying
hi,
am having the same problem in here ...
sms'es include country code in the FROM field, whilst calls do not !
as a result if I want to have a contact to be rocognised to calls and sms, i need to add two entries - 1st with his number only, 2nd -> with the country code - ....
is there a way ( reg hack ) to make the phone remove the country code when receiving an sms, or the other way round ...
i have had no problems with nokia and SE phones before ... sms would still contain country codes, but for these phones , these two numbers would still be recognized and treated conveniently...

All my contacts are stored as +<country><number> and I have not had a problem with incoming calls not being identified. I am in the US using T-Mo. Phone also properly identified calls when I was using a different sim overseas. Looks like ymmv?
It was fixable in WM by going editing the registry key: HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIdMatch and changing the value to something like 7 or 6 instead of 8. Later on, HTC made it automatic by either grabbing the value from the provider or having a DB of presets for each country.
However, on Android, the problem still persists. More than 1 year later and it's still there, even on Android 2.2.

Actually, I haven't had this problem for quite some time now (I'm on cyanogen 1.6 now). Fixed some time when I switched to JF or Cyanogen, don't remember exactly.

CallerID, SMS ID, updated ROM,Solution??

Hi,
I realize this could be posted in a number of forums. I too have had persistent problems with caller and SMS ID on my TD2. I have read and googled extensively and tried various registry edits, hard resets, soft resets...
A couple of days ago I emailed HTC, see below...
"Inquiry Description Hi, Can you please tell me how to organise contact numbers on my touch diamond 2 so that caller id and sms id BOTH work. I have spent many hours googling and trying out various formats and CALLERID registry settings with no success. This would seem to be a fundamental basic of a mobile phone and is causing me no end of frustration. many thanks David

Hello David,
have you installed the latest ROM image available on the HTC website? I am assured that will resolve the issue you describe. Thank you for contacting HTC Europe."
I hadn't as the blurb seemed to indicate that it was a fix for stock info for which I have no use. So I flashed it and....so far.... the caller ID and SMS ID seem to be working fine!!
So if that problem is solved has anyone a solution to the TD2 not receiving business cards sent from a Nokia as an SMS??

My registry setting is: HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch:8(DWORD) and it works with all numbers for phonecalls and sms.

Business cards from Nokia have another format then the businesscards from Windows.
Connect your Nokia through PcSuite (from Nokia) and sync your contacts to Outlook on your PC, then they will be converted for Windows (and Mobile).
Then connect your WM phone with Active Sync 4.5 (2000/XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista/Win7) and sync them back on your phone.

it can be set lower, even to 5, but this way it will recognize by 5 last digits and this will cause to wrong recognitions if you have similar ending numbers.
it need to be set as number of digits in your country minus 1 meaning without the zero so if it recognizes with country code it will work even if numbers saved without country codes.
Hi,
I had tried changing the registry setting but could not get the phone to id both caller and sms. From EXTENSIVE reading of threads on this forum and numerous other forums it would appear that the reg change does not solve the problem for all. It is possible that it was the hard reset that solved the problem and not the ROM upgrade but curious that HTC recommend the upgrade.
I also got the impression that sometimes numbers saved to contacts via TouchFlo did not get saved while those saved via WM contacts were.
vCard has sorted my business card issue. Intercepts incoming sms cards and manages them. I found this fix here on XDA also.
Finally happy with my TD2 and its ability to manage 5000+contacts.

it will not fix sms & calls received until registry changed only for new ones.
I had the same problem when i first got my TD2, i gues it was in june, i called HTC support, they just adviced me to reset the phone, in configuration of windows mobile then under the tab system, in dutch it called "opslag wissen" i guess in english somehting like clear memory? note you lose everything, but in my case it solved the problem, bit wierd how but after no problems any more good luck
I had the similar issue with my stock ROM, after searching, trying and trying I had it fixed by copying all the contacts to SIM, delete the contacts on the device and copy the contacts back from SIM to device.
IMHO, I think the problem was because there were different "formats" stored initially in the device (last name, first name, business card etc) and by copying to SIM card all the formats then reformatted (but later need to adjust them after copying back to the device).
Note that SIM cards only have less capacity than the device to hold the contacts.

Incoming SMS Msg Show wrong time stamp

I got my phone and am quite happy with it so far. I am on the Rogers network in Canada. Everything works great except that incoming msg are showing up 5 hours behind on the time stamp which throws off my sms threads as my msg time stamp correct on the way out.
So if I sent a msg at 9PM and they reply it shows there reply the same day but at 4PM of the same day? Any ideas why this is happening? It's happening from any number I get a txt from.
Thanks
Anyone having this issue or is it just me? I know this has been an issue in the past on various WM units but I'm not sure what the fix is with 6.5?
Anyone help please?
Hi.
Not sure how this connects to your problem, but usually (always) when i send text messages everything is datestamped correctly.
But when I use Phonelog to log my calls to calendar it is 5 hours off.
I have been bugging the developer for years now. But I am the only one who this happens too.
sad face.
My timestamps are exactly 5 hours behind. What developer are you trying to reach? What do you think the issue is? I think it must be a WM 6.5 issue or an network time issue? I've read about this before with other devices, just not 6.5 devices yet.
Anyone?
I'll do some more google research.
This app.
Every update he makes it still is 5 hours off.
Maybe u could give this app a try.
Great app. Barely works when it;s 5 hours off every time...

mea his sms is infront of my sms as i only can sort by time or by name
end up if i sort the thread by using "sort by time" the whole thread went message..

no fix for this?
Got a friend from Starhub who had this issue on his Treo Pro. I'm not certain if the fault lies with Starhub or WM!
cannot be network as this is very standard.....
sms time stamp should use mobile owner time as timestamp..
i dont have this issue when i use on htc diamond

Hey, I have the exact problem, I am also using Rogers, and I also got the 5 hrs off. That makes all the msg received on the top.
Hope someone could help.
try this
it may work
Usually...
More often than not, SMS time stamping issues are something to do with the network provider BUT sometimes, it can be how the phone's SMS software is talking to the network provider.
I had a Nokia N96 be +6hrs out while a Samsung with exactly the same SIM card in it and thus on exactly the same network/account setup etc, the time stamping was perfectly correct.
I updated the ROM on the Nokia to a newer version and the time stamping was perfect again.
I highly recommend anyone experiencing SMS time stamping issues to apply the HTC SMS hotfix that became available in the past few days.
i applied the latest HTC sms hotfix but it dont work for me..
already email HTC to see they have any suggestion a not.
my friend clock is faster/slower than my by few min but it euff to mass up the whole chat as u dunno which is your ans with his reply... (to what i know is basic on friend mobile clock not the network as i tested with 2 mobile)
but it actually shouldn't work in this way as it should basic on our clock to go
i had email to HTC and herre is their reply (i havent try yet.. later than try)
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your query, please be advised to try:
1) Go from settings->menu->all settings->connections->connection setup->select country and operator->ok to reconfigurate the SIM card service
2) press call key->menu->options->band->select the network connection type and GSM/UTMS mode according to the network provider's settings
If still no avail, we are quite sorry that you will have to backup all the personal data you have on your device though synchronisation or backup tool and perform a hard reset to re-install the whole system for your phone.
After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings-the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain
To perform hard reset,
setttings->menu->(all)settings->system tab->clear storage

Talking to HTC support by e-mail is like talking to babies or monkeys. I recently tried to report 3 bugs, the answer I got back was ridiculous, the support person obviously was not able to read, only giving one-line answers, that were totally beside the point. Replying did not make it better. Maybe they are using children in the countryside in China posting random standardized answers.
I have since sold my HD2 because without reliable SMS I cannot conduct business, and a company that are so incompentent that you cannot even file bug reports is not worth any of your money.
Also, the description to the SMS "fix" that has been published on their website, completely ignoring to tell what problems it fixes, makes me think they have employed some pretty incompetent people. Any company with the slightest bit of self respect knows that when they issue a patch of fix, they must tell what was wrong and what it fixes.

HTC Sense + Facebook Sync = Epic fail?

Hi Folks
Don't know if i have found major flaw in the HTC Sense and Facebook sync software.
Here is the story, i have all my contacts stored on my phone with the correct phone numbers. And you know how you can link your contacts in your phone with there facebook profile so that you get there profile picture showing up and there latest status update scrolling along the screen when they call you? So that is all very pretty and cool but......
I have just discovered that if the persons profile has there phone number added to it, HTC will decide that it knows your contacts better than you and CHANGE the phone number you have stored in your phone for that person to an INCORRECT format.
Here is what i mean, the numbers in my phone book are stored as 07 or +447 as the start digits (I'm in the UK and all mobiles start 07). When i link the contact with there facebook profile and the profile has a phone number stored, HTC Sense will automatically change the number in my phone into the following format: 447*********
Now if you note that number has no + at the start of it and this means that i CANNOT phone that person! It took me about a month to work out why i couldn't call half the people in my phonebook, everytime i phoned someone it would say 'the number you have dialled has not been recognised!' and i eventually worked it out the HTC and Facebook have effed up my phone book.
Now this wouldn't be such an issue if you could edit the number to the correct format but you CAN'T!!! When you go to edit the number it shows the number in the correct format that i had originally entered it! ie. either 07 or +447!
So for the now i have had to unlink all my contacts from Facebook and have ended up with a pretty boring screen when people phone or txt me.
Anyone else had this issue? Or know how to fix it?
If HTC read this can you issue a fix? Because i don't think that you or facebook knows better than i do!
no problem here i have linked to facebook and my numbers work
I have both 447######## and 07######## type numbers they work ok
my 447 numbers are facebook contacts i did not have thier numbers previously and my 07 numbers are mates I already had their numbers and linked afterwards
Hope this helps
Well must b something to do with my network (o2) or whatever. Cos i certainly can't dial a 447 number.
But the main point i think is why does HTC think its knows what your stored number should be? lol
Cyberdyne systems are certainly starting to take over now surely! lolol
fail
epic fail i think
Indeed epic...
I got exactly the same problem with Polish operator Plus GSM -> cant call contact which was synchronized with Facebook...
HTC Sense shows all contacts which were synced with Facebook without leading "+" or "00" which ends up with message like "The number you have dialed has not been recognized"
Any one know how to fix it...??
BR
Greg
P.S. Hope HTC will read this topic.. .
Same problem with me in Georgia.
only workaround, I've found is begging all my friends, not to specify phone numbers on facebook
If anyone has a solution, I will be very grateful.
Yep same here, definitely a bug. I will research this one....

Hi,
I contacted an official HTC Support to help in this case.
They confirmed that this bug exist, but they also pointed Facebook and the Facebook Phonebook as a bug source.
I was also recommended to use "Prefixer" from Android Market to temporarily solve this problem.

Greg
Wow! thanks,
will try Prefixer as soon as I can
Yep it's a flaw, I used a little workaround but it would change back when receiving a text or something. Edit facebook number set it to home rather than mobile then let it save go back into out then save the homer number as mobile. I think that's how I did it. I use aosp rom now.

Yeah, I'm sure you can reverse engineer HTC's crappy phone dialer/messaging/contacts.
AOSP works out of the box because it uses AOSP apps.

Is it only me who's getting country code issue with GB?

Let's start with some backgrounds. I install GB and rooted with r2beta0's method. I live in HK so the country code would be +852 and I've been saving my contacts without country code.
Now the thing is that when I receive a text from my frd, the system fails to show the name of the sender (pretty sure it is not related to the application I use as both stock and GO SMS have the same problem), since the sms id comes with the country code.
It is very strange coz I never had the same issue when I was on Froyo.
PS. I tried to call a frd with country code inserted, the system fails to recognize it too.
I have the same problem
@tapatalk
AFAIK the phone is not aware of the country code. It should look for the last part of the phone number and decide who's got that number.
One case when this happens is when you have the same number for a different contact. One common case is the contact is duplicated in your directory (like one on the phone and the other on the sim card).
On way to check the duplication is to dial the number manually and see if the name appears when you click on dial.
Good luck

That was just a guess and the common issue but as you said it would be the firmware then.

Try the number like you see it in your directory? like an exact copy. I am not sure how you can fix this though.
You could try adding a new number to the phone as a test so you know it has not been duplicated. After that do the same thing and try and dial the number. If that fails then I would think the issue would be the phonebook.
The phonebook should be a db on the phone. I just had a quick look on google and the file appears to be here:
Code:
/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db
Maybe ther'e a permission issue? Sorry I am a noob as well on Android and that's all I can think of.
Good luck and let us know how you go. I am still stuck in trying to root my MS2 to put GB on it

I use the very same phonebook which is synchronized to my google acc and with this same set of contacts I encountered the issue in GB but not in Froyo. That's why I said I guess it would be sw problem. Anyway good luck on getting GB. Who knows if you will have the same issue too LOL

I live in the UK and I'm having a similar problem. If a number has the country code in it it is recognised as a contact in texts, but if it just has a 0 it is the reverse.
This is a major flaw for me which is annoying because I really like everything else about the ROM.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
Yeps, it's happening here too. I'm having problems with number formatting too: like 8888-9999 gets formatted as 888-899-99 instead. Time to look for fixed (or just install CM7
