Flashing from 16gb TMOUS sdcard - HD2 General

Hello all, Im having an issue and I wonder if someone can help me out. So I have the latest NRG .nbh and I am trying to flash from my sdcard but the 16gb sdcard that came with Tmo HD2's does not seem to work. I usually flash from my class 6 8gb card but it has come up missing and this is the only card I currently have
I would flash from the cpu but I no longer have a working home cpu and my machine at work is locked b/c I dont have admin privileges to install device drivers. My question is, has anyone been able to make the 16gb card work for flashing roms or am I out of luck?

i'm pretty sure you are gonna continue to have trouble with anything over 8gb. hunt around for a cheap 2gb and use that.

Getting a new class 6 card....questions....

Sorry, tried to search to see if anyone else had brought this up, cant seem to find anything definitive........
I just bought a new 8gb class 6 micro sd from newegg, and should be getting it in the next few days.... My question is Im running a Sense UI Rom, have partitioned my current card, and been using this rom for a week or so. I want this Rom, along with everything Ive installed to run with my new card..... is doing a nand backup good enough? just back it up with recovery rom and restore it on my new partitioned class 6 card?
Thanks to anyone who helps!

i might be wrong but I dont think nandroid backs up the content of your sdcard.
Unless you run A2SD then all you need to do is to partition the new card and drag and drop all your media files etc. using Windows/Your OS of choice. I recently went from the stock 2 gigger to an 8 gigger microSD
ok....
so me having and using linux swap space on my current card wont matter?

[Q] SD Card Encrypted in Mango update process, now won't boot

On my HTC HD2 (T-Mobile LEO) I have been working with several releases of WM7 trying to get to Mango. I was able to get HSPL to 2.08 and the radio to 2.15. I loaded build 7592 and got it fully configured. Everything was great (except if the battery died everything erased and I was forced to reload..never figured what I was missing on that one) but the real problem came when I tried to run the 7720 update. My SanDisk Class 2 16GB card was encrypted in the process and when the phone booted back up after running the RCTtoRTM I got an error that the card had "been changed or wasn't compliant" and the card was useless at that point. I cannot reflash the phone back to a non-encrypted WM7 version because the card is now not usable and I cannot find a tool to de-crypt or format the card over. So now I have a phone that cannot be flashed to Mango, and a 16GB plus a 32GB card that are both Encrypted and unusable. Where do I go from here? I even tried to just reverse everything and get back to stock ROM but witht he Hard SPL I cannot do that (not easily from what I understand).
Help!
If I am posting in the wrong place please don't shoot me, this is my first ever post.
you must upgrade without card if card not compatible (not recognize after mango upgrade)
make hard reset (settings - about - reset)
dont boot to WP7
take out card
turn on phone and upgrade to 7392
again do hard reset (settings - about - reset)
insert card and now upgrade to 7720
this is old trick, dont know who posted first but i salute to him
also you have posts how to unlock card

you did not mention magldr. Cant believe it would work without it. Is it installed?
Gave up trying both methods
Thought i go back but When i try to install xbmod NODO rom on the same sd card that i used to install v2 .. The phone keeps rebooting
Do i need a new sd card before nodo will work? As i got no other ways of recovering
Thanks for your advice

Definitely seems that a new SD card may solve your problems, especially if you had problems with XBmod's NODO rom as well. But beware, as even "confirmed-working" cards may not work with WP7. I would think hard before splashing out £££ on a 32Gb class4 for a 2 year old phone, which may or may not work

Ah yes, forgot to mention that....I am running aMAGLDR v1.13.
So I had the two cards that are locked, my 16GB SanDisk class 2 and a brand new PNY Class 4 32GB. In my efforts to get to Build 7720 I went ahead and just returned the 32GB PNY back to the retail store I bought it at and gave them a little white lie about the reason why the card isn't working..... so they gave me a new card and now I am trying to get the process going again. Build 7592 doesn't want to see any updates to get me to the 7392 build which is where I need to be to get the Mango process started. I looked for a manual way to load 7392 but all I could find was instructions on how to use Zune to do it. And that is getting me no where! I am still working on creating the Linux boot CD to get my 16GB card back though.
I inserted a freshly formated SD card into my hd2 enter magdlr enable& cleared enter USB flasher installed v2 native rom left it on welcome page then installed 7004-7392 via cab sender .phone started set up date and time.sent deviceprovisioning.cab succes open Zune update available to 7403 success checking for updates 7720 available keep getting errors ..thats where I'm at..no hard resets or tricks applied it was that simple took About 40min..
PNY 32GB Class 4 SD card, SanDisk 8GB Class 2 SD Card, SanDisk 16GB Class 2 SD Card. All three are toast now. The KillDisk solution doesn't work for me. Every one of these that gets encrypted and then says it won't work when the phone boots I then run through the KillDisk process and it says its got 3.74GB of space to format and thats it. I cannot get any of them to work, they all break on the first reboot after the 7720 update. Today I spent 12 hours solid working on this. I am pretty much about to give up. Its 2:00am and I am beat. Thanks to all who tried to provide help, but most of the info I got was only 1/2 info.....broken English or missing key points on how to get a particular build loaded first so the rest of the process can complete.
Sorry for the "down" attitude......I am really bummed. Going to go crash now.
I am in the same boat as where I started, can't get back to Stock ROM, I keep getting errors that the SD card is not recognized. Only now I don't have an SD left to boot with....they are all jacked up. Guess that means a quiet weekend!!! LOL..sigh.

go ask any of your friends if they have Nokia phone, and use theirs to format. tested&working 100%. Nokias are even smart enough to display warning about SD being locked with pin, and only way to unlock is format (because code is generated randomly and preserved only in WP7 data storage)
i retrieved my Kingston SDHC 8gb class 4 that way-and yes it doesn't work well with wp7
now i'm asking you guys, if there is any SD card with 100% success rate on wp7... i'm looking for something cheap (4-8gb, being a college student), and i know about sandisk being most compatible, but some say it did not work for them

[Q] Locked SD Card (another question! i did read :) )

Hey Guys,
I did something remarkably stupid I think.
* SanDisk 8GB Class 4 SDcard
1. Installed WP7 Mango
2. Got an error message about the SDcard and couldn't use that anymore
3. Hard resetted the phone with my 4GB class 2 Sandisk card and started using that one.
Now... when I place the 8GB in the phone, it doesn't boot. It's just stuck on the HTC screen and doesn't go from there, so I can't unlock this one. (No Nokia's laying around, and the cab files don't really work, as I cannot boot with the 8GB card).
If I would start from scratch (stock...). Would I be able to 'revive' the 8GB card, by formatting it when installing WP7? (It creates the partitions and stuff in MAGLDR).
If not, I have no idea how to revive this card anymore
Please advise
Never mind, this doesn't work either. Good bye 8GB Sdcard...

Yep, tried that too. I spent the entire day yesterday trying to fix it, but I just can't get this to work. The SDcard is not being recognized anywhere.
When starting with Mango is says the card is not functional, and the only options I have is "emergency call" or "close" >> meaning the OS will be shutdown.
EDIT:
For some reason, the complete re-flash worked!
It took 41 minutes(!) for the OS to boot! But now it all seems to be in order
Is there a way to put this to "solved?"
Edit2:
my SanDisk 8GB SDCard clearly does not want to be used with MANGO. Switching back to 4GB. No other way

Please can you explain the procedure you undertook to resolve Your issue?
What did you reflash with corrupt sd card? Did you use storageunlock.cab?
Glad you got there in the end
Nope, I just started from scratch. Flash stock - Task29 - magldr - wp7, all with the sdcard inserted.
For me eventually it didnt work out as the card got locked again..

[Q] better way than booting from sd?

ok guys, noob here ive got my nook running cm7 off the sd card itself but its super laggy, and i cant stand it is there a better way to root it so i dont have to use the sd card and which method has the best success?

But the question now is, do you want to upset your stock OS or not?
Or is there a new way to install CM7 on your eMMC without interupting the stock OS?
My NC is still under warranty so I don't want to take the stock OS off yet, although I am very tempted to trade places, putting my stock OS on the SD card and CM7 (as I use it so much more) on the eMMC.
If you don't want to touch the stock OS yet, the sandisk is optimal for these units.
In fact, if you will dig around in posts about SD cards and CM on AD cards, you will find opinions and actual performance tests showing that CM from an SD card can be as fast as CM from eMMC... if you use the correct card.. which is a Sandisk class 2 or 4 of any size.. 2gb and up.
Don't ask me to point you to the posts.. I can't. I only remember reading these things when I was doing similar research.
For $10-20 you can give it a try and do something else if you are not happy.
.. or if you are sure you don't need easy access to stock, go for an eMMC install..
Neither solution is irreversible..
There's nothing the stock Nook can do that Android can't and there's probably a list somewhere of the things Android can do that the stock NC ROM can't but it probably wouldn't fit in this post. Search for 8+1, you can always fall back to "so clean the video wants to play".

Thats not an issue as you can always restore to stock if there is a problem. That is Part of the greatness of SD boot priority. You can restore no matter how screwed up your internal memory is.

The warranty is not really an issue as I found when I had to have mine replaced. You just restore it so stock. When you create your install image SD card save it in case you have to return your Nook. If that happens, just place the stock ROM .zip on the card and boot from it and wipe everything like you were installing CM7 all over again but instead just flash the stock ROM. It can be found here: http://www.multiupload.com/BW8FIEJ2GH (With thanks to Taosaur.)

I didn't follow all posts from the beginning so I just make assumption that you're booting CM7 off the Sandisk uSD.
No personal stuff should be placed in the boot partition. Place them in the left-over (/media) storage.
Just install it on the internal memory there are many great Tutorials on it.

I can tell you that I have been running CM7 with nightlies off the uSD card since I got it (3/11). Using an 8gb Sandisk is indistinguishable in speed from the stock system, but SUBSTANTIALLY more useful. Since my NC is still under warranty, all I have to do to "restore" it to stock is take out the uSD card. I love it, and it doesn't take you into the "restore to stock" mess that, while it works fine, is still pretty stressful.
Try a good Sandisk uSD; you probably won't need or want to flash your internal memory.

[Q] HD2 CWM and MAGDLR can't sense/mount microSD

Ok, here's my case laid out. I've searched the forum to death, so I'm pretty sure what I have here is a head scratcher so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I bought a used HD2 off craigslist. It came with WP7.5. When I plugged in the data cable (i.e. USB cable), I didn't get a prompt for mounting to SD card. I installed Zune and got all the drivers (going through the MS troubleshooting list), and the phone was able to mount to Zune with only 200 mb. No problem, right? This error is common. I find out that if I use an SD Formatter, I can clear the card, which is 16gb, back to it's original state by mounting the card through MAGDLR.
After restarting the phone, I still couldn't get more storage than the allotted 200 mb, except it had decreased to ~150 mb. My phone was filling up quickly. I researched that, under WP7+, there should be a "connections" option under settings for mounting the SD card through the cable, so I thought "Hey, maybe it's because this flash of WP is missing something." so I reflashed my HD2 to stock rom using a guide.
While as a stock HD2 (T-mobile), I had now 600 mb of space on the phone to use, but I noticed that the HD2 still wasn't sensing my card. Bad card, maybe? So I tried an 8 gb I had, a 2 gb I had, and a 32 gb I KNOW works from my tablet (and still works on my tablet). I decided maybe it was the ROM's fault, so I decided to flash android on it, since I'm used to android from my other phones.
So I follow Jayce's guide and put on the proper HSPL, MAGDLR, the right Radio, and CWM to flash a new android ROM and banish my problems once and for all.
PROBLEM, I'm stuck here because (dope!) even MAGDLR and CWM DO NOT SENSE MY CARD(S). Now I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Is there a way to get it running at the very least? I know the microSD slot is pretty much the most reliable piece on the phone, so I don't think it's broken.... but maybe it is?
So either a) somebody help me get the phone running with any ROM or b) somebody help me figure out how to get the SD cards working.
Sh*t out of ideas here.
[edit] OK! I FLASHED IT USING THE OL' HOLD DOWN THE "DOWN VOLUME BUTTON AND FLASH THE STOCK" Could still really use help with the SD card sensing thing though....
it wouldn't be the first bad sd card slot reported here, so, reliable it may be, break proof it isn't.

I had a bad SDCard too, it doesn't work in recovery but does in the ROM... I think you should really think about replacing your card. Flash memory has a limited amount of writes, so I wouldn't be surprised if you lose your data or find it unusable one day.
