how to change current location - Touch2 General

ive just got my new HTC touch2 and i cannot find away how to change my current location on home screen, it says rockville? im in england. also is there a way to change the background on the other screens apart from the home.
thanks

For the first question - i succeeded to change location to my town after i installed Weather Update from HTC site, but if your phone is operator one you need to hack it before that (HSPL).

call me a dummy, but after installing the HTC HomePlugin, i didn't see an option for weather. the only things that appeared on my home screen were icons for power, comm mgr, etc. is it a must that i have WM6 installed on my device?
After installing the htc homeplug (not htc home) you need to soft reset. and yes you need WM6 - you also need to have the today plugin selected.
anyone know how to hack the locations? A choice between London and Manchester is useless if you live in Birmingham!
go there: http://www.accuweather.com/
find your city and copy the code at the end of the address (on your browser address bar)
paste all that in the HH_409*.xml file in your windows ( on the trinity, of course)
you should have something like
Rochdale EUR|UK|UK201|Rochdale
now, just select the new city.
Brilliant!
It's answers like these that make me love this forum.
Cheers.

Here is the example (first 3 lines) I did on mine HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file:
<locations>
<city name="Calgary, AB" locationcode="NAM|CA|AB|CALGARY"/>
<city name="Edmonton, AB" locationcode="NAM|CA|AB|EDMONTON"/>
<city name="Vancouver, BC" locationcode="NAM|CA|BC|VANCOUVER"/>

http://www.accuweather.com/world-index-forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&locCode=EUR|PT|PO007|FIGUEIRA%20DA%20FOZ|&u=1
I've edit the xml file and put like this
<city name="Figueira da Foz, PT" locationcode="EUR|PT|PO007|FIGUEIRA%20DA%20FOZ" />
I've tried also:
EUR|PT|PO007|FIGUEIRA DA FOZ
EUR|PT|PO007|FIGUEIRA%20DA%20FOZ|&u=1
No matter what I try, I'm unable to edit that file...It has some kind of read-only protection, I can't overwrite it either. Any tips on how to achieve this?
I copy the file to pc and edit, then replace in windows folder, but no sucess with my settings

Touch HD Home screen

Hi,
I've just been looking at the Touch HD and the Calendar on the home screen allows more than one entry. Unfortunately I'm not a dev so I was wondering if anyone has a ROM in progress with this feature. I know I'm not alone in thinking this a major loss in M2D. If it could include tasks it would be even better, I like the first screen I see to have all the info I need for that day. I know I can use SecondToday (and do) but that's an extra key press from seeing everything I need on screen 1.
Thanks
i have the elite 3 rom and i can see 2 entry on the home screen. i think that more is not possible with qvga...
have you tried changing the setting in today screen options/items... selecting calender and chinging the setting there?
Install new Iolite Manila version...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173&highlight=iolite
Calender will only show the next, as in one, per default. You can change that in settings for the home screen
so please show us that we must change.

My Location/Weather problem in 6.5

I've just upgraded to the official 6.5 ROM.
If I select the Weather tab, after a moment's pause the screen changes to one just showing HTC in the centre, then returns to the Today screen.
If I click on My Location under the flippy clock, this seems to take me to the Weather tab again, and the same happens.
Under 6.1 I had added locations to the Weather app, following instructions found on the forum.
Can anyone please help me get the Weather functionality back?
Thanks!
Hi
can anyone try to explain me how this " my location thing " works?
One the home screen right under the clock I can see just "my location" text a thats it..I am unable to find any information on the internet.. Any time I try update it manualy from weather menu I get message about communication problem..But when I manualy added few other locations there is no problem at all..Just "my" location info is still empty..Does anybody know how to tell my bloody phone where am I ? I know it sounds funny but something is definetely wrong..Thanks for any answer..
Yeah and I am running stock version of HTC WM 6.5 recently downloaded from their site..
I am just wondering when they will fix all those problems with new ROM. Like crazy clock when locking my device or flashing light notifications..I would rather wait for new ROM few more days then have problems like this..

On your homescreen you can click the "My location" and from there select what location should be seen on the homescreen. Go to the weather tab first to add your city.
OMG that stupid I am ? Thanks very much m8 ..
I've got My Location set OK, but still can't get the Weather tab to function at all - I just get returned to the Today screen.
Hmm, maybe im doing something wrong. I cant get my location to update in the main weather tab but i can add citys as the other user said. However if i click the "my location" tab under the clock on the main screen, it takes me to the weather tab of my location which is blank as it wont update for some connection error but i cant see how i can make one of the other citys i have added to appear on my homescreen?
I couldn't get this to work either... but I've got it working now... for some reason nothing works until you go to weather tab --> menu --> settings and select " download weather automatically"
After that, if you select "my location" as your clock... it automatically updates to where you actually are... neat huh!
Pauly
Still can't get Weather to work - if I go to the Weather tab I don't get a Menu option, I get a screen with HTC on the default background, options of Calendar and Contacts at the bottom, and just above these, on the right, a small picture of a generic 'computer' - as if to signify it's processing something.
Then, a few seconds later, I'm dumped back on the start screen.
Please can anyone suggest a solution? I did add cities to weather under 6.1 - could this be anything to do with it?
Thanks!

hmmm, sounds like manila/sense is actually crashing when you go to the weather tab, as the screen you describe just sounds like the blank today screen with no ui on top of it, then it is restarting tf3d and hence bringing you into home screen... odd
Unfortunately, trying to fix the problem I fear I've bricked the phone!
Thinking the issue was that I had edited the 2330fc3c_manila file (to add my location to the Weather cities) I searched for a 'virgin' copy, found what I thought would do the trick in a thread on this forum and installed it.
After this, and a reset, the phone wouldn't launch HTC Sense - the screen invited me to tap to launch it but wouldn't go further...so I tried to restore from a pre-6.5 backup.
Unless anyone knows a way of reviving it, the Topaz is on its way to the menders this afternoon!
I assume you did a hard reset and not just a soft reset?
Yep, tried that - it won't go past the initial screen.
Just reflash a rom. that should fix it

How to add weather locations?

I found a post detailing how to add some weather locations at http://www.avforums.com/forums/htc-mobile-phone-discussions/1081931-htc-hd2-15.html#post10873219

One of the problems that I've read is that of "My Location". After a bit of searching I found a tool that allows you to add more cities to the default list:
Manila 2.1 and 2.5 Weather Editor PPC Edition - xda-developers
Install that application to your phone and then go here AccuWeather.com - US Weather Forecast Search - Local Weather Forecasts
In the "Internation Location" enter the town/city that you live in (I'll use Worcester) and press "GO!".
Click on the relevant link (Worcester, United Kingdom (Worcestershire, England)).
In the URL you'll see loccode=EUR|UK|UK248|Worcester. We're interested in the EUR|UK|UK248|Worcester bit.
Open "Weather City Editor" on the HD2.
Choose "United Kingdom" from the "Country" drop down.
Press "Add City".
Choose (GMT) in "Time Zone".
Type Worcester in "City".
Type EUR|UK|UK248|WORCESTER in "AccuWeatherCode".
Press "Add".
At this point you can either add more cities or exit the application.
Restart your phone.
Now, go to the "Weather" application on the slide menu.
Choose "Menu" > "Add Location".
Start typing Worcester.
When you see it appear in the list, choose it (make sure it's the United Kingdom one :grin.
Press "Update Now".
Slide back to the "Home" screen and press on the clock. You should get to the "World Clock" screen.
Choose the "Worcester" radio button.
Press "Back".
It may take a few minutes for the animations to show up on the "Home" screen.

Now I was going to do this to see if it works, but to install the first app I need to go through the hassle of installing the .net compact framework, which frankly I can't be bothered to do. I did try searching through the windows directory for the xml file and found "Weather_Pages.xml" but I don't think it relates in any way to add city codes in it.
Does anyone have any idea which xml file I have to find and edit to add more location codes?
Thanks
Installing .NET framework probably takes less time than writing this post.
You have a solution - yet you choose not to use it because you're too lazy to install something that's needed anyway? Sorry, I can not understand your reasoning.
And it works very well too
AND... the author says you probably only need .Net 2.0 which is already on your phone.
Many thanks for this. Works a treat on my HD2. My Location never really worked for me in the small town I live in. This has provided a better solution. Cheers! mate.
why cant this crappy weather "my location" not just use google maps or just my f*cking GPS? Google maps finds my exact location in a sec even if I'm inside (almost everytime) and my GPS function works splendid, but the "my location" always shows some ****ty town 10 kilometres away. Its f*cking annoying. Sorry for the swearing but the h*ll were the developers thinking?????
"Okay, lets see, lets make a weather app!! yeah, good idea, lets also put in a GPS, but we should definitely not combine the two"
OMFG - I love my HTC but this app is making me dizzy, gonna disable it using duttys
I have been able to add my location and when I go to weather, it updates fine and shows the current weather. Right now it is cloudy. However, on the homepage under the clock, it keeps showing rain no matter what. The temp seems the same but the weather that is showing is not the accurate. How can I fix this?

Make sure the clock is not set to My Location, but to the same city as the weather tab.
Add locations
Been Playing with my new HD2 over the weekend and the my location works perfectly in a regional town in Australia but I can't manually add the towns into the weather tab to monior weather in nearby regional centres. The add loations only has major cities but the my location successfully finds all towns I have visited so far which arent avalable to be added as locations and returned the correct weather settings. If the my location is able to retrieve the weather there must be a way to get one of these towns permenantly added to my locations list so I can check the weather in other parts of the country outside capital cities.
My first post on this forum is a big thank you!!.
I'm very shallow and wanted the weather working or it was going back and I was going to get an iPhone instead.
Weather is now working for my town
How do I get it to display the days and weather description instead of IDS_Home_State_0 etc?
Thanks
My second post is I must learn to tell the difference between the / in a URL and the | that the instructions gave
All fixed, even happier now!
I'm sure I must appear really dumb here but where on the HD2 do I go to add my city?
Hi,
can anyone please give me a brief feedback if this tool works with the latest official rom release 1.66? Maybe he/she can even tell me his/her exp with a german device because I read alot about problems regarding sence & manila crashes in a german pocket pc forum (don't know if it is allowed to post the adress here, anyone may get it per PM). And I would appreciate to miss another hard reset
Thanks in advance!
Lars
Uhoh,
I used this app and first time it worked fine.
Second time, I've now lost the whole home screen and all options.
All I have is the start menu and icons across the top and the phone/contacts buttons at the bottom.
I assume this is because the editor disables touch flo 3d and htc sense when it starts and hasn't re-enabled them. Anyone point me in the right direction as to how to turn them back on?
Ta!
Sorted: Just had to go to the today settings and re-enable htc sense.
You have to turn Sence back on in....
Settings > Home > Items and put an X in the HTC Sence box
http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/editor/separator.gif
I've only just managed to actually find the right city codes for this!
I think the linked page has changed a bit and all the search boxes now operate by post code.
You actually have to switch to the international page and search on there rather than searching in any of the boxes.
Alternatively, just go straight to www .accuweather.com/world-index.asp
Thanks mate, I will try this program. I've been looking for a solution for this for a long time.

Incorrect weather update on Touch FLO.

Weather update on the Touch FLO screen shows up for a wrong city (wrong country, for that matter) as opposed to that in the Weather Tab - which displays correct info. Anybody knows why that's happening ?
Opposite here - when i hit Tab to Update on the Touch Flo screen it ask if i want it to use Location Settings, and if i say yes it gives my town. But my town is not in the list in Weather Tab, i used a program to put it in and it says "cant update weather for selected city"

EDIT: for me it didnt do the job, in weather tab again "cant update weather for selected city" and on home screen it was my town and when i put this one on my phone it went in London.
facing the same problem. The weather app has a different city set but the home screen shows weather for another city :| The only solution is to have just one city in the widget.
Thanks Buddy.
It worked on the second attempt. Had to reboot after installing.

10x it works.
You have to update only in the weather tab not on the home tab and after 30 seconds it will update automatically also in the home tab with the correct city from the weather tab.

I think I jumped the gun.
The problem is not resolved yet. The Home screen keep updating itself to 'Guangzhou' in China, no matter how many times I reset it in registry.
It simply doesn't want to take my city from Weather tab.
Guys...no matter what I do, the Home screen weather switches back to 'Guangzhou'. I cleared reg keys to make my home city appear but as soon as I click on Update Now, it switches back to this city in China.
I see an udpate on the htc site. It seems to be ROM update utility and I am afraid, it will wipe the data from phone.

I can not put it on my phone, it says Its not for your phone.
Had same problem, but solved (well sort of)
Had the same problem and apparently the GPS location was messing up my weather update. Installed HTC rom and now its works ok. My home city do not appear on the list, but the location is telling the weather update software the name of my home city (this of course changes if I update when in another city) How it xactly works, i donno.
Every single IP has it's own information going with it ... when u update the weather maybe the site reads that info and reads that the ISP is in other town , so it shows u the other town's weather forecast
How do I install the file mentioned in Post # 4? Step by step, please, as I'm a newbie. Cheers.
try fidling with the localisation options (switch off or on?)
the weather automatically detect where you are based on GSM network info.
go to you setting, locations and switch off HTC location service.
maybe this helps.
