16GB SDHC not showing? - HD2 General

Hey all,
This morning I have noticed that the "storage card" option isn't showing in file explorer. If I click on the drop down box at top left of the screen, the only option I see is "my device" Yesterday the storage card was visible in the file explorer, but today is isn't there.
I have tried taking the SDHC out of my HD2, and re-inserting, but nothing. Plus I am currently charging the HD2 via my PC, and the "autoPlay" pops up on my screen for the SDHC, while it's inserted in the HD2.
Any ideas why I can't get the SDHC to show up on my device?
Cheers.

take the storage card out of the phone and restart the phone, use file explorer to search and see if you see a file called storage card, if you do, then rename it to storage card2 or something similar, insert your 16gb card back in into the phone again and delete the one you called storage card 2.
I have had a similar problem like this before and the steps above resolved the issue. I think it was caused when i connected to the laptop and picked use phone as a disk drive instead of active sync.
The steps above worked for a 4gig card but I also have a 16Gb card which is not recognised by the phone or laptop anymore and I have seen similar threads with this issue and hope that you card is not faulty.

This probably has to do with choosing 'disc drive' instead of ActiveSync; so when your phone is connected to your PC it will open to see the files on your phone (like it would with an external hard disc or USB stick).

That's didn't work.
I'm quite sure the SD card ain't faulty, as my PC is able to read it, no problem at all. It's just the HD2 ain't reading it today, but was reading if fine yesterday.

Don't be too sure your card is ok. I had the same problem as you, I was able to copy files to the card, seemingly without problems, but when I took a closer look at the copied files on the card, they turned out to be corrupt. Testing the card showed the card was defective. I also had the problem of the card not showing up in the file explorer on my phone.

i had this same issue and managed to resolve it by changing the name back

Argh, I am SO dumb!
It was because I had the HD2 connected via USB on charge, so as the card was read by the PC, the HD2 won't read the card while connected to the PC.
I should have remembered this when I had a windows phone (T-Mobile vario III) 18 months ago, Do'h! Since then I have been on Blackberry for the past 18 months, but am now back on Windows Mobile
Now the only other thing I need to resolve/fix is the fact that Windows Mobile Device Centre / ActiveSync will not work when I am connecting the HD2 to my PC via USB. Very, very annoying!

The WEIRDEST thing on my Trinity

I had the weirdest thing on my Trinity while in New York. I was on 3G and was surfing the net. Because I installed Memmaid 1.72 on my pda (main memory), i moved my temp file tp my Sandisk Ultra 2 Gigabyte mini sd card. I also installed Pocket Mechanics 2.23 on the main memory and did defragmentation of my mini sd card to optimize the speed. I did this several times. Mind you all is great, surfing was wonderful then all of a sudden while trying to access xda-developers.com from my pda on 3g Cingular, it froze and couldn't advance past 35 kb. I repeated it twice then gave up. I went to my mini sd and all the folders and files vanished. Even the programs I installed on the mini sd. When checking the insalled programs in the settings, they were still on my device but the actual files in the mini sd where gone so the program icons did not work. I am not sure what happened. So I formated the mini sd now and it went back to 1933 mgbs free on the card. Before formating it had 160 mbs in use but nio actual files visible when accessing the card. Does anyone know what happened to my card Is it a rom issue?
Thanks,
Gilbert
hi Gilbert
i am not sure about that, but for my experience I had the same idenctical problem after defragmented the external memory with pocket mechanic, so after loosed my data once again I dont use P.M. anymore and my problems now are solved.
Hope this helps

Yeah, I wouldn't use it either. I've found the best way to format my SD cards is to take them out of the device copy all the files to the pc using a card reader and format the card using Windows XP.

HTC Touch not recognizing storage cards

I have been using my HTC Touch for almost a year. I have 2 storage cards, a 1GB and a 2GB. The other day I noticed missing software while using my Touch and found out the phone did not recognize the 2GB storage card (which has all my backup info on it). I assumed this was a card error and installed the 1GB card which also has all my backup stuff on it.
Neither card shows up in the File Explorer and the files on the cards are not accessible. When I put these cards in my computer they are totally readable.
Is this a known issue? Any clues on how to solve it?

i had the exact same issue and returned my device (elfin), in a month later got replaced (some parts) back. it was defenitly hadrware failure in my case.
I've seen at least two similar problems get resolved by formatting the storage card. Strangely though....both those devices were HTC ones. If your computer is reading the card, copy all the info onto it including your backup file and then try giving the format a shot. If it works for you.
Storage Card not recognized
I have happily been using HTC touch w/8 gb storage card, then today storage card was not showing up, did soft reset and it was there again but lost 2 programs and had to reinstall.
HTC is a mess
I was able to get my card recognized again by doing a reformat of the card. My review of the HTC Touch would be a failing grade, I'm afraid. Within the next 3 months I expect to buy out my contract and get an iPhone. The hardware plugin on my HTC is failing again (2nd time). I'm sure they'll offer me another replacement phone, which will once again require me to reinstall all my software, etc etc. I've never seen anything quite as incompetent as this phone. I saw another guy with one the other day and asked him, "How do you like your phone?" So he says it's been great. Works good. Then he adds that this is the SECOND one, since they had to replace his original. LOL I guess HTC and Windows Mobile have set a new standard for cell phones. It can still be a "great" phone, even though you need to replace it eveey year with a new one.

Storage Card disappearred!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! my Storage Card of my Touch HD just disappearred! it is the original 8 GB SD card that acompanied with the phone;
both in terms of device and PC platform, its just gone and left no reason,
I'm so f* disappointed... anyone has the same problem here??
btw, like usually what i do for my phone:
I had flashing ROM for several times today, but I don't think that causes trouble;
and I've also changed my start Menu icon, cos the original one is the way too drab;
on the other hand, I did 'clear storage' for my blackstone as well..
whatever, I don't want to lose my data on that SD card, any help will be grateful!!!
Is the card not recognized, or is it just empty?

its not recognized, there is no 'storage card' folder where it is used to be, so I can't even format my sd card, despite some said this should recover this problem...

sorry, a card reader?
usually when i connect my phone to PC a dialogue will be popped up on the phone's screen and ask me if i want to choose 1 of 3 modes of connection, and I normally choose the synchronous one (can't remember what it's called);
on the other side, I can directly open the storage card folder when the phone and PC were connected
and within phone's memory management, it shows storage card memory not installed...
something like this:

You plug it into your USB port. If there is no problem with the card outside your phone, then you might have to hardreset the phone.
My original 8GB card also died and wouldn't be recognised in any device. I have replaced it and all is ok so far.

Hi JR_de,
I really appreciate your help with regard to my problem, but I don't have this equipment atm, so I can't ensure whether its my phone's problem or the Micro SD card's.
the card just seems unreasonably disfunctioning, I think I have to return the phone to my contract seller and see if there is any sulotion to this.....

you mean you took the card out of the phone, and re-insert it and then it starts to working properly?
just did once hardreset, but unfortunately the problem still exists..

No i got a new one, the old one is totally dead.
there is an option under settings > connections > USB to PC, from there u can decide if you want the card to appear as a storage card on pc, or connect via active sync, which would show the card under pc and phone, if you select "disk drive" under that option, it will not be visible inside the phone under file explorer, it states it there, unless its somthin else

I usually activesync over Bluetooth hence phone set to Disk Drive when connected through USB. I can still access storage card, so I assume the card probably will need a reformat using a card reader.

thanks for your information, but I'm always choose the 'activesync' one, so I think this may not the cause of it

Help! Memory card undetectable!

Very confused, I minute I was listening to music and the next minute my memory card became unreadable. I have resetted the phone several times and have taken the memory card out and reinserted it and still it will not read that card and when booting as majority of my programs is on the card error messages on boot gallore. Also tried my sd card on my friends HTC and also same problem.
Any way to fix this problem as it still shows that the SD card has 1gig of information on it but it cannot see.
Hope someone can shed some light on this. THanks
USB?
I understand that it's highly unlikely ..........But, you're not connected via the usb cable to a PC are you? this will hide the starage card (unless by activesync)
Nope not connected to anything.. In Fact when I connect it to the computer, the computer won't recognize it either ..
Simply read these threads. Not that it will fix your card, but it will help you accept you simply need to buy a new one (given that you claim your PC also does not recognize it)

Personally, I consider myself lucky that it is the card that broke, not the phone.
Check out the StorageTools app mentioned in the Thread above.
This has a verify option for SD cards. I used it on my 16gig card when it started behaving strange (due to some weird app I used and terminated).
Later I used the format option to fix the card - worked fine !!

Storage card "Error 13 changing to dir"

I got a new 8GB MicroSDHC (kingston),
and I received this error several times, on several occations,
even after re-formatting the card in the HD2.
Most of the time, it occured after writing to the StorageCard while connected with "ActiveSync" and using windows (XP) explorer to write to the card.
Another occation was when I tried moving files (with the device's file explorer) from one directory to another on the storage card.
I have tested the card - "Search for bad sectors" (with the HD2 connected as a storage device) - and the report came out clean.
Did anyone else encountered this ?
Does the hotfix for the storage card has anything to do with this ?

The hotfix for the storage card was to address the issue with 8gig+ cards when the camera application miscalculated the amount of storage space left for photos or video capture.

Ok, So I guess the hot-fix would not fix this.
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone else had this problem ?
Oh, another thing -
it hapened mostly (maybe only) after the card had more than (or close to) 2GB in use.
(Up to ~ 2 GB, everything seemed to work just fine)
That sounds like a dodgy card. You can reprogram the cards to say they have more memory on them than they actually do.
Where did you get it from? (Please don't say eBay )
Edit:
Try this - with the HD2 connected as a storage device, fill the card with 8GB worth of files (or near enough), and make sure you can copy all those files back off. If that doesn't work then it's the card and it will need to be replaced.

That's a nice Idea.
I'd try it.
No, I did not buy it from eBay.
I bought it in a store that I buy computer stuff from for several years . . .

That's good then. At least if there is a fault in the card then you can take it back. If you trust the store though, I'd doubt they'd be selling spoofed cards.

Well, I did just that.
I went there, and requested a replacement.
We (the store's lab guy and me) checked the card, in the device, and in a card reader - in both it acted the same.
The interesting thing is - we tried 2 more cards (of the same brand and type) - the other two acted just the same.
I still have to check this with a different brand card and see how things turn out . . .
