Hello,
I am looking for an API call that will allow my application to select to use one of the following:
either a specific APN
or a specific APN type
All I found until now is a way to WRITE APN settings, but that does not actually help me.
Yup, would love to know too

I have yet to root my phone and am big on saving battery, so I'm in the habit of disabling my mobile data when I'm not using it. However, I still want to be able to enable MMS, but this device only comes with a "T-Mobile US" APN which encompasses both Internet AND MMS. It appears that this is standard practice with more recent versions of Android. So I know you can go in and change the APN type to "internet" only. And I know that you can ADD a new APN. But how do I add one that functions correctly? It asks for name, apn, proxy, port, user name, password, server, etc. I attempted to replicate the settings of the existing APN in a new APN and then designated one as Internet and one as MMS, but that didn't work.
Is there a way to create a separate MMS APN, or is it not possible with the newer versions of the Android OS?
Thank you.
Hi. I'm trying to connect Huawei E1750 to my Adam, but I couldn't have made it so far. There are two problems I'm facing:
1) When I try to change APN's MCC value from 310 to 286, the APN dissappears from the settings after I save it. If I try make a new APN with MCC value something except 310, it won't show up after I save it and return to APN list.
I tried APN Manager, and I could see the APN's I created (with MCC 286) are there and I could sellect those APN's from there but I didn't affect to the device's APN at all, when I tried to connect, it still tells that I need to choose an APN.
2) I really need a application for 3G Network Settings, the one that I can add or delete 3G Networks, like in the photos. The photos are from cheap ZT-180 Android Tablet, why they have and we don't, this shouldn't be so hard to configure
Can anybody please help me?
Thanks in advance.
Hello
I thought I'd just share one little piece of knowledge I just found.
I have subscribed to a second SIM card, tight to my main one.
(The name of this option with my carrier is SFR Multisurf).
With this "data-only" SIM card, one needs to use a specific APN (named websfr).
Unfortunately, this APN is set by default to have the "dun" type only, at least on my SGS2/4.1.2.
With a "dun" type APN, one can't use the Android device as a real Internet/Data endpoint. Dun stands for "Dial-Up Networking" and is made to use your device as a modem only.
Changing the APN type to "default" (or even "default, supl, dun") is enough for the APN to become a working access point to the Internet.
To do so, you have to go into your Phone/Tablet settings, then Select More, then Select Mobile Networks, then Select Access Point Names.
Find the access point you need to use, scroll down to its type, make sure it is set to "default" and voilĂ !
Thank you for sharing
Hey there to all.
Since I had Windows 8 on my Ativ Smart PC, I have been able to change APN connection of my device in order to use a different connection than that provided by the system.
Simply, after clicking on newtork icon in status bar, i was right clicking on network name, selecting connection properties and then changing the APN name.
Now that I updated to windows 8.1, the ability to access to network properties is missing by right clicking the network name and I have to access "PC settings/Network" to reach my network.
No problem, up to now, but the issue comes out when i try to change the apn name.
first of all I cannot change the name of the apn given by the provider.
(this should not be a real problem, considering that there is the possibility to create a custom setting)
secondly, even if I set to use the custom settings, if I get out of network setting screen and then I re-enter it, the APN selected is back to the unwanted one.
Is there a way to edit "drastically" APN set by provider? Maybe a regedit workaround?
Thanks in advance
Andrea
I've just updated my rooted Galaxy S5 to the OE posted elsewhere here. I was hoping this update would take care of a problem that I've had since the prior update - I can send, but not receive pictures via text message (MMS).
I did some research into the matter and found that the issue is with a setting within Settings / More networks / Mobile networks, under Access Point Names. In the access point name for Verizon, there should be a server set under MMSC that's supposed to allow this to happen properly. Problem is, I can't change anything under there. When I go into Access Point Names, the + at the top to add an APN is grayed out, and clicking the settings (...) icon only has an option of "Reset to default" - which is also grayed out. If I touch the one existing entry for Verizon Wireless (VZWINTERNET), it shows all the settings, which are all grayed out and can't be edited. The MMSC field is not set, and because I can't edit it, I can't change it to the correct value so that I can specify a server as I've found in other pages on the subject.
Unless that's old information and a MMSC server doesn't need to be set, in which case I'm still at a loss for why I can't actually send a picture via text message.....
If there really needs to be no value set in the MMSC field for text messages to contain a picture, I'd appreciate knowing that.
And if not (heck, even if it is, I'd like to know), then is there some method by which the APN settings can be edited on a rooted phone?
