In my experience Tomal ROM´s are the best I´ve tried on wm6, but let´s wait the masters Beasty & Laurentius, they are just about to launch one!
it is true, Tomal's ROMs are very good. I used Ranju 7.7 (this was also Tomal's?) and was very fast and stable. Now I use Tomal's 8.2 Regular and is also very fast. I have about 25-26 free RAM after boot, but my display is full of gadgets
You can try it, but WM 5.0 - I think - is (almost) the best.
best! 12nala34
Guys i been facing this constant WAKE UP Problem....My device wont wake up once i receive an sms in Standy mode...the only way i can restore the device is my SOFT RESET.
I am soft reset my phone twice or thrice daily...im getting Sick of this problem.
I also tried installing WM6.1 and same problem appears again, so i switched back to WM5 the original ROM.
What exactly is causing the problem ? i am starting to dislike my phone now.
Please suggest me whats wrong here ? is it my battery or my ROM or Myself ?
The best ROM is subjective..
The only way to find out is to flash several ROMs to your device untill you are satisfied (or adicted to flashing your device ).
@all polarians,
a stated above, i have ordered myself a polaris, thinking of releasing my p3300 with it!
being an all-time insider of the artemis / p3300 (amongst other things having written the wiki howto sd card flashing), i find myself a total novice with the polaris section here!
so i ask you to pls. help me with the following:
- the leanest, speediest rom, ideally no m2d!?
- the latest, official radio version?
- do u experience battery- or and memory drains within roms?
thanx a million!

Welcome to the exciting world of Polaris!!
One rom you should take a look at is the one you mention in your post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459826
It comes in a variety of flavours from Full through to Naked, so hopefully you'll find a mix that suits your needs. I think the latest official radio version is 1.59.44.02, but there are some later unofficial/unreleased radios that are as good if not better (I'm using 1.65.30.09 which has been great).
Most people do not report any differences with battery usage with the cooked roms or unofficial radio versions, in fact some of the later radio versions seem a bit lighter on the battery.
I'm tipping that you know about the hard-spl stuff, but if you're not sure there is an excellent thread in the Polaris wiki if you want to double check.
Hi,
I did the same some months ago and use C Shekar's' ROM "a" but am going to try his new ROM "b" today.
The Polaris is faster, but my Artemis was very very good (I kept it as a spare) with a cooked ROM.
Battery worse with the Polaris, but I do leave the bluetooth on.
Let's see how you get on.

Gotta die from something
@thormdac,
if you are seriously concerned then check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
There seems to be some confusion as to what exactly flashing is. People talk about flashing ROMs AND flashing HardSPL...wtf?!?
well, you do flash both, but think of flashing HardSPL as you would when flashing your BIOS on your PC (if you have never done it, then think of it as a new version of the white writing that tells you your pc specs when you switch your pc on - startup screen)
Flashing a ROM:
Your phone is running Windows Mobile (6.1 or 6.5) just like your computer is running Windows XP/Vista/7 (or, if ur a real tosser, Mac OS). Now you may sometimes update your OS (that stands for Operating System) via automatic updates. you haven't actually REPLACED your OS, just added a little to it.
That is NOT what flashing a ROM is.
Flashing your ROM is like having Windows XP Home and installing Windows 7 Ultimate. You COMPLETELY take away Windows XP and ALL files associated with it and install a newer OS.
So, you cannot just "upgrade" from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5.
WHAT IS A ROM?
A ROM is practically (using above's example) a CD/DVD with Windows Mobile on it (which version of Windows Mobile doesn't matter). Now of course it IS NOT an actual CD/DVD, but rather a smaller file (where are you gonna fit a CD/DVD into your phone, huh? )
So, when people talk about choosing your ROM, they are practically saying, which version of Widows Mobile do you want, BUT ALSO how customised do you want it?
Different ROMs:
- Stock ROM/Original ROM/HTC ROM:
these ROMs are absolutely basic and come with nothing extra or edited to make them faster/change them. it is the version you can download from HTC
- Cooked ROMs/Modified ROMs/Custom ROMs:
these ROMs are prepared by the chefs in our kitchen (it's a metaphor, there aren't really chefs in any kitchen, we just call the guys who piece together the custom ROMs, chefs)
these ROMs come in many shapes and sizes, some of them offering more eye candy (that's what we call things that look pretty) and some optimized for speed and performance. You will need to read through the description the chef gives, as well as the forum feedback to be able to evaluate just how likely you are to use that ROM.
Now, once you understand those terms a bit better, have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201
for a simple step by step guide to flashing HardSPL and then your first ROM.
Good luck
Other Terms you might encounter:
Radio Version: The radio ROM is responsible for Wifi, phone signal, GPS. Changing the radio ROM can improve your phone (or make it worse) regarding Wifi sensitivity, phone signal availability, GPS satellite receiving and GPS lag. Most ROMs come with a radio that should work best for them, however, if they do not, then your old radio will simply be left in place.
Unfortunately there is no confirmed measurement available yet to tell you which radio ROM is best for you. It depends on the OS ROM you use, the region you are living in and your personal needs.
Sense/Manilla/TF3D/Touch Flo: These are words/descriptions given to the HTC Touch Flo Interface (Touch Flo 3d is the TF3D term in words)
- Manilla (BLACK AND WHITE) is the original version "old" version, whilst Sense (COLOURED ICONS) is the new one.
- So anything that is graphically NOT the standard Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5, probably counts towards the Touch Flo Interface.
Hard Reset: A hard reset is the same as "Restore Factory Defaults" on most cell phones. So ANY data you have added (contacts, data files - music, photos, etc) will be deleted. The phone then reverts ALL settings (any background changes you're made, any ringtones, etc will be set to the original, default ones the phone came with) *note: your phone will NOT reset to the original ROM/Windows Mobile version it came with, it will still be the same ROM you flashed with!
To perform a hard reset, you can either do so by looking for the Restore to factory settings in your menu
OR
Switch your phone off. Now hold both volume buttons down and press the power button. Your phone will now hard reset.
Soft Reset: Pressing the red button under your battery cover, or selecting the quick reset option in the menu(s). This is pretty much comparable to restarting your pc if it is running a bit slowly for some reason.
If you still have questions, or would like to read more, Please go to the Topaz Mega Thread
(to all the (Senior) Members, if you have any tips i might have left out, please PM me with them and i'll update as necessary, as i would rather keep this thread as clear and unlittered as possible for the new guys, thanks)
Please add this guide to sticky..thank you for the guide

hey man.
R3 seems to be good from Dutty, personally, i'm still using R1 (because of the task manager, i feel it is the fastest feeling ROM i've used to date (with Sense 2.5))
Your question about the Radio is a good one. I will add an explanation above soon, but in short, don't worry about it. If you flash a ROM that DOESN'T come with a new Radio, then your phone will automatically keep the old one. If your new ROM DOES have a new Radio...well, it will update automatically
keep checking here for updates to other definitions
Success....
Drag-on..dude.. thank you so much for ur guide that helped me out in successfully flashing Dutty holy grail R3 ROM on my HTC Touch Diamond2..
Drag-On, can you clarify from where can I select the quick reset option in the menu?
can Soft Reset be done by Press the Power Button for 3 seconds and then power again without opening the cover...?? if yes can you please add to your your wonderful guide

Hey all,
I'm new here and have been doing a ton of research on my phone from sprint. I have a lot of questions mainly to do with enhancing my phone from default. You know all the must haves and so forth to opptimize and have some fun with it. I wasn't sure where to post but I figured this was as good as any. On a more speciffic note, Is there a way to increase the in-call volume so that botton pushes would have a greater effect on the volume level?
I installed the newest Opera and I would like to like it to the Touch Flo 3D like the current one is. Not sure how to uninstall the original if that's what it takes or even if this is my best option? Links or any assistance to get me off in the right direction would be great.
Thanks!
Thanks for the much needed idiots guide to HTC ROM stuff.

u will need to wait for a newer build/ROM that integrates Opera (the new version)
currently, Opera 9.xx is "linked" to Touch Flo 3d. it should technically be possible to "link" Opera 10, but that's where my know-how ends.
maybe others will have a better idea, but as far as i know, it's something a chef would have to do with his ROM, or/and an HTC update

do i do a Hard SPL every time I flash a rom or its just one time activity?

Hi. Is possible to flash a Rom from Internal Storage like Diamond does? (Vol Down + <-- + Reset). Thanks in advance
Hi, I'm a begginer-no-idea.

At the moment I tried 4 or 5 times but whitout success.
Do you have a tutorial for mono neuronal begginers?
Thanks.

Hi All:
I bought a P3400i about an year ago and the camera on the phone has not been working since the day I purchased it.
I tried tapping on the camera icon under Programs, Tried pressing the Camera button on the device, and even tried locating the Camera EXE file and tapped it. The camera app doesn't open at all. I tried a hard reset as well. It still is not working.
(But whenever I tap on the camera Icon under 'programs' it promptly appears on the 'recent programs' list under the 'start' menu)
Please help!
Is there a solution to my above problem? Its so frustrating to have this phone without a camera. Would be great if someone could help.

Try to load a custom ROM and see if its a driver related issue. Or try a stock ROM from the wiki. But PLEASE PLEASE Read the stickies about upgrading in ROM Dev section properly before taking a dip.

Before downloading the stock ROM, you will have to find out whether your gene is 'Old' or 'New'. To find that out there is a thread by ramersonw in the Gene\ROM Development section - have a look there.
But make sure that you do not patch your SPL (since You never said that you want to flash your device with a custom ROM ).
You can find your stock ROM in the Gene wiki. at

Thanks Addicted. A couple things though:
1.) The HTC Gene Wikiwiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Gene only has two stock ROMs. One for WM 5 and one for WM 6. I have a P3400i running WM 6.
So, When I click on the WM6 link there, it goes toforum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396744. Now this thread has another linky to a rapid share file called Old_gene_original_WM6.rar. Is this file only for the old gene? Where do I find the stock ROM if my phone is a new Gene?
Please advise.
2.) I couldn't find the thread for identifying new and old gene. Please help!
dude plz do hard reset ur gene......no need to do all the stuff......but if u wana do,then plz read all the threads of upgrading vry carefully.....
@above
I did try a hard reset. It still isn't working.
Actually, I am scared of this ROM flashing thingy
Is there any other way to set this thing right. May be a driver or something I can install for the camera to make it work? Any help would be really appreciated.
plz change ur rom.......i think it will help u out of this stufff......b4 changing rom plz read here each & every step carefully....all d best

Dear Friend
I think u didn't have your hands on a good 6.5 ROM
There are 6.5 ROMs with good battery backup in the OPAL forum
Jagan has created this magic for the first time but its a customized version, you may like it
But if u want a ROM like default HTC version you may try my ROM on this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655572
Its awesome on battery...just like original 6.5
Some users had a issue while installing this ROM because of different versions of ONBL on OPAL...
My ROM is based on OS 1.35.0.0 and ONBL 1.35.0000
If ur device holds same specs u may use this

HEy,well, the main problem with me is i m a bit stubborn on accepting the fact that the start menu in all the new roms is being put at the bottom and not on the top as the original 6.5's...currently,m trying out the Evo2 by Jagan..its awesum, but misses out on sum important facts and icons, such as on the start menu bar, there is no display of the lock icon when i try out other themes..agreed that hez currently made the best roms here, but it also misses out on the usb connections menu, from which i can have an access to change the actie sync and disk drive settings...i put a lock code to my device, hence,it doesnt appear(on my device, yes i m facing this)also,if suppose,it does come, and if i check the 'dont show this menu again',the =n i m in a complete mess....the rom is stable, but in the long run,the lock icon on the start menu disappears.well, whatever Jagan has made, its commendable,I dont even kno a single percent of what and ow,a stable batery backup rom has been made with utter precision, but,as a friend,i wont like this work to go hay wire...this is not criticizing, but a note to make things more perfect,so that no 1 has a chance to complain....
whatever it is,m keen on the next updated version of the Evolution series, this time with the start menu up....
thanks for making roms...u people make our life work...
love u guyz,thanks for advice...

before flashing which rom???well,i donot take any back up for any rom...all i keep is the .nbh file.thats it...after that its a normal copy-paste work to be done...the .nbh is to be copied, and put into the installation package...to download the installation package, visit the evolution 2 update post posted by jagan 2..google is a great help...but if u dont find a stock rom,u may ask any of the senior members here..they'd be a gr8 help..if u planning to hav a back up of ur rom, please ask for the procedure..i am not aware of it...i advice do not back up ur current rom(6.1 or 6.5)just go on with your customisation...untill u r 100% sure that u hav the stoc rom put up on either xda or google...6.5 is way better than 6.1...camera functions are too good, and it is lot more stable...if at all u need to degrade ur rom frm 6.5 to 6.1,visit a htc service centre and ask the tecnitian to do the needful, swear they are a gr8 help, and it wont cost u nythn..
Link if u need to DEGRADE to WM6.1.
