Japan is set to update to 2.1 in September... - XPERIA X10 General

Has anyone in other countries got any news that they will see 2.1 soon?

Where did you get this info from?

http://japanese.engadget.com/2010/04/28/xperia-android-2-1/
Ah, reading it again said it wasn't for sure - and was based on an UK announcement ^^;;

I remember i've read somewhere (forgot where) a Rogers rep. saying X10 will get 2.x in September.
So, i assume is true now that 2 sources made the same announcement.
Problem is, we need firmware updates in meantime to fix those damn bugs we have.

September seems likely for 2.x... hopefully 2.2.
However, I would caution believing anything Engadget posts about the X10. They have posted numerous unsubstantiated rumors about the X10 over the past few months, and most have been incorrect.

New X10 firmware [R2BA013] to bring performance boost, Creatouch app?

Well, then let's hope Rogers will push it
If not, i'll really have to debrand it ...

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. If baseband .16 is released for the X10a before Rogers releases it (which is likely), I'll then de-brand.

Update for Canada Today (Aug 8th)?

SonyEricssonCA posted the following on Twitter about 15 hours ago...
"Free software upgrade for the Xperia X10. Get more details here: http://bit.ly/b9HT0A"
But I can't see anything from that link, SEUS, OTA or PC Companion. Anyone else seeing anything?
its probably the update to 026....as usual, Canada always seems to be in back burner for these folks when rolling out updates.
I checked last night after reading that twitter post both OTA and SEUS, no update available. Still running on R2BA020! I assume that post was to remind newer X10 customers they should update that horrible 014 firmware.
*also today is August 6th not the 8th man

Yesterday’s tweet about the software upgrade was just a reminder for those who haven’t yet updated.
Was the update from the future? In the future I have 2.2 on my x10 and no Rogers. dare to dream.
Darn. Got excited for nothing.
Dammit
Who knows, maybe Rogers will release 2.1 before anyone else does
Doesn't hurt to dream....
You just wait... "The 2.1 update for Canada has been pushed back to Q4 of 2012"
The SE CEO's will be sitting in a room going "Who else do we have left to push 2.1 to? Canada? Those guys are still around? Do they get internet in their igloos?"
till 2012!?!?!? god damm!!!
LOL all.
That's why I rooted. Tired of waiting for Rogers to push out their updates weeks after everyone else.
BTW: R2BA026 is wonderful!
If you want a picture with 2.1 set to be release oct and above in a japanese presentation i can upload it. I am sick of people expect 2.1 tomorrow because they didn't do the researches.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
sure, upload it
How is this build wonderful? What makes it good? I cannot see any difference between this and the one before. Am i missing something?
Has it improved the batter life? Has it dealt with the low volume on the earpiece?
With the Galaxy S listing for $499.99 CDN, Rogers had better get on SE for the real update, or expect a price cut on the X10.
As much as I dislike the Galaxy S' exterior design, the specs (and OS) are killer.

I'm curious. How recently did the presentation take place? The original plan was for 2.1 in Q4 but it was pushed ahead to Q3 in June/July. Is there a chance the presentation happened before or after the changed schedule?
Edit: Yep, September "onwards" for the civilized world and late Q3-early Q4 onwards for the US. Damn those progressive rollouts, always confusing stuff.
Lots of rumours flying around that the X10 is about to land on AT&T in the US...I can't imagine them actually launching this premium phone with 1.6 in the US especially after all the recent updates to 2.2 for all the highend Android devices (less the Galaxy line). SE would have to be out of their minds to pull a stunt like that. Here's hoping they aren't THAT incompetent and just finalizing a 2.1 release ready for the launch of the X10 on AT&T in the coming weeks.
I want my update now... I can't believe I am still using android 1.6!!!
No one has actually answered my questions. Whats so special about this new software update? I dont see any difference at all. Its still 1.6. No improvement on battery life and no real update worth all this hype.
What is it really?

Having recently come from the Nexus One & Froyo I must say over all I'm liking the X10 a lot better. Sure it's 1.6 but I think it's fine compared to 2.2 which I found to be overall not that great. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess, but having come from the other side IMO the X10 isn't missing much.

Looks like the official Froyo has leaked.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783403
International version only.
There is a user whom everyone respects in that thread, who almost certainly has an inside scoop into Samsung's affairs. He claims this is the one.
Not final and not froyo
I guess time will tell, but many are convinced at #project-voodoo.

Pretty sure this is froyo. rhcp posted on his Twitter about this last night.
The T-Mobile leaked ROM we got recently is not Froyo, but according to the many posts this is Froyo for the International version. I'd imagine the US version is not far behind.
Samsung previously announced Sept 23 as the date that Galaxy S Froyo would be released to the carriers. This doesn't mean that we'll get OTA immediately after. TMO needs to brand/bloat it before enabling OTA. Even though Sept has been quoted repeatedly, I don't believe it's accurate for when we the end user will receive it. Considering the uproar around the GPS issue, I can see why they didn't wait for 2.2 to push out a fix before then.
We don't really need an ota version. As long as I can flash it with minimal glitchyness, I'm happy.

Samsung has said nothing about Froyo release for any of the US versions of the Galaxy S. The only thing that was said by Samsung UK was Froyo to be released in September and a rumor from a non-confirmed source about the 23rd. I have no doubt that the "official" update for the international version will be in soon, but i kind of doubt that the one leaked today was the official version, from what i've heard theres still a few bugs.

Froyo Available Via Kies -official Worldwide Release Oct 16-28 for Samsung Galaxy S

Rumors:Samsung Galaxy S to Get Froyo Around 23rd September?
It’s always a good thing when a company keeps their word. In the world of Android, it doesn’t always happen, especially when it comes to release dates for firmware updates. However, it seems like Samsung will indeed stay true to their promise that the international-spec Galaxy S (i9000) will be receiving its update to Android 2.2 by the end of September. A source from within the Finland branch of Samsung has disclosed that Samsung’s repairs department will be:
“definitely receiving new software for repairing froyo builds on the 22nd of September, with the build expected to be released on the 23rd”
There are two important points to make of this. Firstly, if this is what is planned in Finland, then it’s logical that the release in other countries should happen at a similar time. So while I cannot say with full confidence that the global release will be on September 23rd, it does at least seem like a good starting point, if nothing else. Secondly, this information only relates to the i9000 Galaxy S. While it is fully possible that the four USA Galaxy S devices will receive froyo around this time, we cannot be sure of this based upon this information alone. In the meantime, let’s hope that this information is accurate, and that the Galaxy S receives its helping of Froyo soon.
thanks for sharing but this is old news
How about HTC Desire getting theirs from T-Mobile today then ?

sorry miss read
I am thinking that since I was opened this threat, we can post on which country the update will be release when will be released, because I am afraid that is not going to be worldwide and I am guessing that also depends a lot if the phone if locked on a network or purchased network-free.

Well it's not going to be world wide same time. And I sure hope it's not going to be on 23rd this month, cause it's not good at all, if it will be like the release of 9/9/2010 leaked froyo. It is NOT ready.
If they release it like this, it will be like Epic Fail.
if you are asking a question then add a question mark to the thread title please. it saves people from clicking into a useless thread. and when i say useless i mean it really is old news and there will be nothing but speculation in here.
Looks like upgrade will be later than expected
According to an article over at brighthand.com, Froyo won't come to us until late October now.
Yep, I read about it all day - now the only thing that I am curious is if this announcement is for worldwide or not
I hate you for bumping this thread and giving my false hopes ;(. And it's not -official-, it's news based on a rumor.
If it was official it would be a worldwide announcement by Samsung...

is there any update on when the official uk vodafone 2.2 update will be
stoney
probably never as they not said anything about it
Come back when Samsung have actually released it to the masses and then you might actually get an accurate answer. But then, this is Vodafone we're talking about, so if Samsung actually releases Froyo this year, you might get it early next year...

Froyo for SGS at the end of october

Samsung_mobiles twittered some News to the relasedate of froyo for the sgs. If this i posteted elsewhre please delete.
"Samsung_Mobiles
All our users who are waiting for froyo , please note that froyo is expected to launch by end of this month. No exact dates are confirmed."
http://twitter.com/Samsung_Mobiles/status/26579290440
The tweet is quite clear yes. However Samsung_Mobiles is not a verified twitter account so there's no telling if they are indeed Samsung India or just some random account so be careful with accepting those claims as absolute truth.

Sorry didnt know and havent looked that Samsung_mobiles is not verified. But youre right, and before there will be great discussions.. Please close this thread, dear mods.
well i do not believe on any news now..samsung has been known for its customer annoyance syndrome regarding updates for long. better try cutom roms.. coz they r big time liars.. dt b surprised if they say "end of november" at end of october...like before
Oh stop whining, it took HTC 9 (!) months to give their early Hero customers an upgrade from 1.5 to 2.1. The Galaxy S got released with 2.1 and it's not even been on the market for half a year and they're obviously very busy working on an update.

Ah, because HTC was slow to update Hero we must shut up our mouths?
Samsung's promise is worth nothing. Froyo is when we see it.
I would like to nag but why should I? Rather let them take some time to polish it up a bit since this will be the last official update available for our phone (damn)
So please just take it as a man, say; "oh i can wait a couple of weeks more" cos by the end of October you'll receive a new phone, eventhough we're tricked with merely new software
meanwhile, kinda happy with the unofficial froyo =/
No companies promises are worth anything generally..
Originally Samsung said that Froyo update will be available THIS YEAR.
Not end of september/october/november.
I do have official Froyo update (it's a jp3 version but I still got it at the official service) and still waiting for the final release via Kies.
So as far as I'm concerned, Samsung kept their promise. No complaints from me.

And for Froyo
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/30/samsung-confirms-galaxy-s-will-get-froyo-in-september/
And in Smsung Spain Facebook page they promised an update for September.
There's nothing official about statements on Twitter or Facebook as long as there's no press release to accompany them.
There's a crapload of work that goes into managing a ROM release cycle and decently testing every update, something they might be inclined to do better this time after all the trouble they got from the original release.
Besides, it says 'Expected', not "Will be released on $date and you can quote us on it".
