I am having that same problem too, I feel like throwing the phone at the wall am getting really pissed about this.

I got this from the Tmobile forums
After talking with some phone tech friends of mine.... unfortunately cant say which company in Austin, TX they work for..... I found out that the first batch of HD2s that were sent out had a corrupt file in them that was causing all kinds of freez ups and other issues. They told me about how to tell if mine was in the first flawed batch or the the batches that were sent after that been fixed by HTC prior to shipping them to tmobile. Here's how to tell:
If you remove the back battery cover and look for the factory reset button which is located below the battery to the left near the left edge where the cover snaps in place, you will be able to see that it is colored. If the color of the button is red, it is part of the first flawed batch that came out. If the button is yellow or any other color then it is part of the batches that had the problem fixed before they were sent out by HTC.
I am not sure if this info has been posted yet or not but if it hasn't then I hope this may give some insight to thoes who have been having some problems with their HD2. I am just guessing that if you were to sent your HD2 back for a new updated one, that tmobile would honor this issue and exchange it for you.
Thanks for all the info that ya'll post on here, it has come in handy!

help
is there any more people can give me some more advise ? Cause my phone still like that keeps on freezing every single day , can someone please help . Thank you

I got a new HD2 last evening from my Tmobile store. The soft reset button on my firsrt one was red, it had HORRIBLE problems, a freakin headache. This new one has a yellow soft reset button and it crashed really bad last night after I turn it off and on. SENSI UI didn't load for like 10mins and it was glitching from Start Menu to the Sense UI menu. Ive only had the phone for 7hours, stock ROM too. This is fustrating.

mine got a red dot but it's not freezing for the past month.

I've had mine 7 days. Yellow reset button. Stock Rom.
No freezing at all. Battery sucks. I turned off a few things in Sense UI yesterday and the seems to have improved.
From what I've read, most of the freezing problems are due to the slow MicroSD or with large number op SMS or Music files.
Try taking out your card for a few hours and see if its still freezing. If it is, ask for a new card.

Do yourself a favor return the phone your still with in the 14 day period. All of these problems are Sense U.I related and only custom roms can be fixed but your warranty will be voided..I wish i didnt buy this from Ebay and bought it from a corp store, so i could have returned it..

even with custom ROM.. less freezing but yes.. usually on the texting.. i think htc just released a new tmo rom the 26

That one is for Tmo in europe, not the US, won't work on the US model. (just wanted to be clear )

that rom might kill your phone. be careful.

I called HTC and was told they know about the freezing issues. It uss with T-MOBILE HD2 only and they are working ona firmware fix. I have yellow reset button and lots of freezes. wondering off I should return this and get the Incredible from Verizon. Its Android so much better?

New faster? What does that mean? Are you saying to get a new 1GB microSD instead of using the 16GB microSDHC card that came with the phone?
A card isn't "fast", the thing that determines the speed of which a card can be "read" is the size of the card (32GB would be "slower" than 16GB).

Actually the speed that an SD card can be read at is rated by "class" (2, 4, 6, 8, and even some at 10 now)....the higher the class, the faster it can be read from. Unfortunately, HTC saw fit to provide us with a class-2 16GB from the factory, which can contribute to a number of issues, so even a class-4 card of any size would provide better performance than that

I upgraded to a class 6 8 gb micro sd and all freezing issues have ended except for sms freezing. I hope tmobile comes up with a firmware fix for it

the ugly truth is...
HTC did not do a lot to upgrade the ROM they sent to the US. Even with having a 6 month start and KNOWING the issues and complaints they were receiving overseas. Yes, you can flash, yes there are multiple tweaks, yes the people here are great at helping. However, the basic functionality that "should" but, did not come with the phone (sms lags, music skipping, sytem crashes when using proprietary sense UI) is really quite bad. Everone does not have these problems but there are more and more people asking the same questions.
I am going to wait until T-mo and htc get their @$$e$ in gear and release a fix. No timetable yet for it, but they have heard and earfull and are doing something . Then I will flash after all the manufacturers cures are applied.

I too just purchased mine. Class 2 file transfer for a 16 gig card is ridiculous. For this phone anyway. Also waiting for that sms freezing fix. It is definitely swype related and for some reason, swype (unlike any other input format) needs all messages loaded prior to being able to function. Blah...these are the ONLY issues I am having with the phone. Have had it since March 25th.

I have a HTC HD2 TMOUS and i have nothin but problems i already did task29 and may 23 energy i did everything correct and it still freezes sometimes it does not even go past the tmobile stick together screen this effin sucks big time wtf is going on???
Should rename the title to "My POS HD2".
Not all HD2's are unstable like yours.
I, task29, install t-mobile radio 2.10.50.26, install energy 23569 cht and the phone is insanely stable and very fast, faster than 2.13 rom.

Have you tried using a different ROM? I have tried Energy ROM and it froze up on me a couple of times. I then switched to Elegancia 8.5 and I couldn't be happier with performance and stability, as well as eye candy. Only times it gives me trouble is when I do something stupid or install a CAB file and it doesn't like the ROM. The ROM itself is great, at least for me. I recommend you shop around and see what happens.

Yes I tried a diff. Energy ROM and it still gave me the same problem I didnt like Elegancia that much too much eye candy...lol...idk whats up with this phone it gives me problems the most when I flash the ROM then like after 3 days is when it will start to work a lil better. When I first flashed the ROM it had the problems but not as bad. But then later it got worse.

if its that bad you should be getting a replacement. There are two sets of hd2 problems (based on what people have been posting since i started reading in jan)
those who have a few rom basede glitches, like jittery keyboard, sleep of death, etc. which can be solved by flashing, or tweaks etc, and those whose phone, whilst showing similar effects to the first set, are far worse, and dont respond to tweaking.
If its a new phone, and its as bad as you say, dont fanny about with flashing and what not, get it replaced and start fresh.

Hey drift. I gotta go with sam's thoughts here and say that if it were me experiencing what you are, I'd probably be taking it right down to the store and getting a replacement. Just remember to get everything stock again first. Push if you have to, to make sure you get a new one and not a refurb.
One more question, before you punt it back...have you tried running it without the SD card in it at all? I'm not confident the issue is there, but since nothing else seems to be working, if you could try it and see if there's any change that would be awesome.
p.s. I think RDR will be my next ps3 purchase

Well I don't know that the problem will be there, but I've seen in a few examples where taking the card out actually clears up wonky behavior of various types. I just thought it was worth a try before returning it, and I wanted to just add your results to my collective troubleshooting experience on this phone.
There's a few card-releated thinks that can cause your phone to misbehave (bad card, etc), and this is just the best way to make sure we eliminate anything having to do with it. Hate to have you replace a whole phone if all it needs is a new card. But, like I said, there's still a pretty low chance it'll help

I was having similar issue on my stock ROM and could not get it past the boot screen. I took my SD card out (sometimes had to do that to my wing) and it let it boot. As soon as it was booted I did a factory reset and it was good. This was when I first got the phone and was putting all kinds of weird stuff before I actually began doing a little research. Hahaha. But yeah new T-Mobile ROM and Cookies and running like a champ!
At this point I doubt there are refurbs floating around. Too new. Isn't there something you can dial in to show you whether it's a refurb or not from your phone key pad?# something or other?

Refurbs are indeed around, but mostly only coming from T-Mobile Customer Care as warranty replacements for phones in need of exchange that are beyond their initial remorse period... Definitely confirmed on this one.

Return my Vibrant, then buy it again in October...Good idea????

I am going to return it because of problems of phone shutting itself off automatically. This is my 3rd one, and they all did this. If I wait till october (after 2.2), will I be buying a different phone (hardware wise), or the exact same thing? Maybe a newer batch will be less glitchy? (gps, lag, shutdowns)
i was wondering if perhaps the phones that are rolling out in october/november, will work flawlessly out of the box? Maybe some hardware changes?
Thing is i got a good deal on a 3 year plan (the worker at bestbuy messed up and gave it to me $50 less than what he's supposed to), and if i return it now (since the 14 day return expires tomorrow), i will pay $50 more for it if i decide to buy it again in october.
My carrier will put my hardware upgrade back onto my account, and i can buy whatever phone i want at a later date (WILL NOT BUY AN IPHONE...EVER). But i dont think any good new phones better than SGS are coming out soon...are there any? thanks
I got no lag, never ever had a restart and gps should be fixed to some extent. October you will see the g2, will it be flawless ? No nothing usually is..
The lag I hear about but don't have myself so I can understand that, but the restarts have to be something you installed or a lemon. I'f you had that happen on all 3? Definitely something you installed
Dude, what are you doing to your phone(S)???? I have never had my phone reboot/shutdown unless I was messing around with installing system apps from another rom... and that was a super easy fix.
$10 says OP had crap like setCPU on his or her phone. Samsung has already tried to make it harder to get into recovery and download mode.....hmmm I wonder why?

dont have any apps installed except for adobe reader. Someone mentioned it could be my sim card, so i changed it and it has not happened since...but...its only been 4 days, and this shutoff thing happens every 3 to 5 days anyways..so if i wait to see if it was perhaps my sim card all along, then it will be too late. «9refund policy).
If you go over to the captivate forum, you will see that many people (almost one third of people) have this issue. It could just be bad sim cards, but i dont know for sure.

Not a god idea because more phones will be out at that time and you won't be able to decide. Like the person above me. If adobe reader is the only app installed then that's most likely the culprit.
Why not just use thinkfree pdf reader? Works just as god as adobe's.

Your sd card may be corrupt too.
To answer the OP question, I think it's worth returning the phone even if you have to eat the 50 bucks. The G2 is coming out this month and the MyTouch HD in November. Both phones could be strong contenders. If you can hold out til then you might even be able to get the vibrant for a reduced price.

yea i find it hard to believe all 3 have the same problem did u buy them all from the same place? i know the phone has it's problem but Ive never herd anyone have one were it randomly restarts on them.
It is because of adobe, others have had the same exact problem.

Man, thats turrrrible..
I'd be less eager to point fingers at Abobe, personally. Userspace (i.e. non-kernel) code shouldn't be able to lock up phones in this manner. I can understand slating SetCPU - over-clocking is never guaranteed to be safe. But simple apps like a PDF reader? Even utilising SetCPU to just scale down CPU clock speed should be absolutely safe...
I've had my phone now for just under a month and in the last week it's developed this issue where it'll crash/shutdown when left idle. And no, I'm not running any stability-compromising apps, zero mods, nada. Not even rooted it. Just stock firmware and a handful of apps - apps I've not even run since installing them weeks ago. And for what it's worth, I wiped my handset this evening and after roughly 15 minutes of being left idle while I was eating dinner, it died again.
Now I've not got a Vibrant myself; I'm an SGS owner. But if you search the Samsung sub-forums here at xda-developers, or do a Google search, you'll find hundreds of Vibrant, Epic and Galaxy S users who are reporting exactly the same issues. Which leads me to think that this really has nothing to do with userspace code at all. Instead it points back to Samsung's sloppy business practices of releasing Android-based phones before they're fully cooked...

OTA updates if not on T-Mobile?

I'm using a T-Moblie MyTouch 4G on Wind Mobile in Canada. Would the phone get OTA updates? If not, is there any way to check or download the latest updates. Have there been any updates since the version on my phone:
Android: 2.2.1
Baseband: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel:

The reason I ask is the phone behaves strangely at times. I've seen it show 3 or 4 bars but GPS, data and voice don't work until I reboot then all is fine. I've also seen it lose a strong signal and be unable to get it back until I reboot and suddenly everything is fine. I've also read so much about how fast this phone is supposed to be but mine seems to to frequently stutter when scrolling through the app list, movie playback in rockplayer (and others) is often jerky, and it even seems to have serious problems recording at 720p (it freezes for a while resulting in sections being missing from the recording) or playing back those videos. I'm hoping maybe there was a bug fix released.
Thanks!
stock Rom is pretty bloated and your going to run into those issues if your on stock. swap to a custom rom and root and you should be fine.
So none of that sounds out of the ordinary on the stock ROM?
I'm trying to get my phone replace with one of the ones with a good screen. I'm waiting to hear from the third HTC rep who's supposed to call today but it sounds like they are going to give me a replacement since they told me they're trying to collect samples of the poor screens (although based on the poll I saw in this forum, it's hard to imagine there's a shortage of samples for them to look at). I don't want to do any permanent rooting or flashing until I have a replacement just in case it causes issues with warranty.
Once I have a good replacement I'll probably go ahead and flash something better. Is there a stable Gingerbread ROM yet?
Thanks.

Thats strange. I'm completely stock and don't have the problems you're having. I think you just got an overall bad device. Hope you get a good replacement. What speeds are you getting?
As for the ota? I don't think you'll receive it due to T-Mobile being the one that pushes it. When an ota does come I'm pretty sure there'll be a manual way to update. Latest update is still 2.2.1 which is the one currently on your phone.
CyanogenMod 7 is still experimental but I hear all over that its pretty stable. Check some threads first.

No, I haven't tried a factory reset yet. It's been a little better behaved lately. Also I'm most likely getting a replacement from HTC in the coming days(weeks?) so I'm not inclined to do any modding or starting again from a reset until I get the new phone. Whether it's a hardware or software issue, hopefully starting fresh on a new device will fix it...

Did you ever get your replacement? I got an escalation call the day after my initial call so I was feeling really good about HTC support. He told me I'd get a call from corporate. Still haven't heard anything. Finally called HTC support back, their notes were all messed up, and after several minutes on hold they told me Corporate will call me.... And now after that last post I want to install Cyanogen 7 but I don't want to do it before sending back my phone...
In any case, I put up a video shot at 720p to illustrate one of the things I was talking about. Actually, in low light video looks awful, but there was enough light to make this one look decent at times, but every so often it just pauses. This happen to anyone else? Is it a slow SD card write issue maybe? I'm using the card that came with the phone.

[Q] Touch Screen intermittently doesn't work. Question about warranty

Ok, I'm suffering from the "Sometimes the touch screen doesn't work, some times it does" problem I've seen other members have.
I'm thinking about starting the warranty process, but I have a few questions. First some relevant info:
This is a T-Mobile USA HD2
I bought it Day 1 (stood in line in front of the store) so it is going to be hitting it's Year Old mark here next week
I have flashed HSPL and I have a custom ROM
Here are my questions:
Should I call t-mobile or go into a t-mo store?
Do I need to remove HSPL and the custom ROM? Even if I'm sending it in?
Anything I can try that doesn't involve warrantying and requires limited screwdrivering?
Thanks
this happened to me some months ago. call soon; at a year the manufacturer's warranty becomes void.
Should I call t-mobile or go into a t-mo store?
- i went in. but in the end, they had me call tmo via phone and i took care of it that way. i would just call first (open 24 hours, so kinda easier too.)
Do I need to remove HSPL and the custom ROM? Even if I'm sending it in?
yes. hspl breaks your warranty. flash back to original everything (and tell them when you call that you have tried upgrading your rom with the same problems. it will make things faster as you won't have to do all of that on the phone).
Anything I can try that doesn't involve warrantying and requires limited screwdrivering?
i don't think so, mate. some just go bad.
in the end, i sent my phone in (without battery or sd card) and they sent me a new phone (no new battery, no new backcover but they did include an additional 16gig sdcard which was a nice surprise...) good luck!
(and when i was on WM, loved your fb app for what it is worth!)

Thanks! I'll give them a call right now
Thanks for the compliment on XDAFB! What platform are you on now? I'm not going to be staying on the WM train for much longer... Too many problems and too many better options. I plan on taking the project with me to where ever I go.
I have been with Tmobile for over 8 years and have been through the warranty process a **** load of times. I have never wiped off a custom rom or radio before sending a phone in. Matter of fact I sent in a Vibrant that had a custom kernel and a custom Android 2.3 (only the galaxy tmobile tab ships with 2.3) and received a replacement phone no problem. I would say if you can change it back to stock go ahead, if not I wouldn't worry about it.
Switched to android. The few programs I use for work simply work better and not available for WP7. I miss cookies but I think android is it for now.
If you come to the dark side I looked forward to your work!

Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

Extra 16GB magically appeared.

Ok, this is a weird one...
Two weeks ago there was a problem with my GS3. (International GT-I9300, blue, from the very first batch that came to the UK on launch)
Something went wrong with some part of the hardware that prevented me making calls. Calls would connect but no audio could be sent or recieved, you jsut got a dead line on both ends of the call. Everything else worked great still, even SMS but calling was dead.
Reflashed every variation of stock rom and modems and CSC possible and eventually admitted it had to be a hardware failure. Went back to the stock setup i got with it and got in touch with samsung service who organised a warranty repair. I got a baggy in the post and instructions to send it to a place for repair that about 20 miles from my house. Convenient.
Got it back 6 days later (monday) and hadnt really played with it much till last night apart from to check it booted and calls worked again. All was well.
Last night i checked out sammobile.com and saw that the jelly beans were rolling out so i hooked the phone up in anticipation and ran into all this "Hardware ID not found" bull with win7 x64. Did all the driver and kies reinstall crap and got it working again.
By this point i still hadnt really done anything on the phone. Hadnt taken any photos or anything like that. I logged into facebook and posted a few times while i fannied about with the drivers.
Today, kies tells me JELLY BEAN IS AVAILABLE.... YAY!
So i just fired through that update on kies and its all working, except kies decided to update the damn windows driver again so that hardware id thing is back, but so what.
So im fannying about in the official jelly bean update, checking out the differences between it and the previous leaks and i discover something mental.
My 16gb phone now shows that it has 25GB of free space on the internal SD.
HOLY CRAP.
So either, samsung bumped me up 16GB or the jelly bean update did something cool, unlocking an extra 16GB of storage. Your guess is as good as mine, i wish i'd checked before i did the update to be certain of which is resposible.
Either way, a very nice story for me.

It's deffo the same phone. All my dents are still there and my IMEI and serial are the same as they were before.
Very lucky indeed.
I'm guessing they only had a 32Gb main board and replaced......you lucky lucky person! Me jealous!
Have seen many cases like this in my Galaxy SL days.
They might have replaced your board with 32Gb one. That's the only possibility. Enjoy mate!!!
Damnit I need to get my phone broken to send it away (think if I surge my charger that would work?)
Or in case of the latter, where's the download for the extra 2GB RAM and LTE???

But joblessware has major compatibility issues with moneyware, and I don't have any wifeware I heard it's worse than malware
Lucky you..!
But there is only one firmware for all i9300 models, surely it should have appeared on ICS (Definitely should have if you cleared cache)

Correct. I hadn't expected it to change for any reason.
Lol @ someone voting for jellybean.
It's probably not the same but I remember the HTC HD2 has hidden memory that was unlocked by flashing a certain ROM.. could we be that lucky??

That's the sort of thing i was considering but it wouldnt make sense given that when i bought it they hadnt even released the 32gb version. I imagine that some of the more advanced tinkerers would have noticed by now if this were the case too.
Doesnt mean someone whouldnt investigate it. Could do a teardown i suppose, get the code off the memory chip and compare it.

The hidden memory was only found by accident, no one knew it was there..
But to be honest I suspect when the phone was repaired they changed the board to a 32Gb board, makes more sense..

I did! I felt sorry for the option, since it was so obvious nobody would check that. So I did just out of pity for the option.
It's like the "7", "8" and the (specially) "9" keys on a microwave: nobody uses them!!!! So, everytime I am to cook something in the microwave, I set it to 1-3 seconds less than I need, just to use the 7, 8 and 9 keys and take the load off the "0" key.
The OP says that imei remained unchanged i doubt they wrote the imei to a new board.
I have seen this in some sandisk memory card a few years back. They were sold at 8gb and with a format with a certain firmware they doubled their capacity.
Anyway. However this happened good for him.

Don't want to start an argument but there isn't one board, but 2 or 3 different boards (from what I can see on YouTube strip downs), so it is possible they replaced one faulty board and his unit still kept the imei number from an original board.
