I use Universal Extractor. it's free and can extract from any kind of file. It appears in the right click
Thanks mate, I tried using Universal Extractor on a hotfix file, for example, Messaging fix LEO08007-07.exe and got a folder full of unknown files like "MESSAG~1.011" etc. all numbered but not really usable. I got the same thing when using 7-Zip. Can you help? Am I missing something?
Many thanks in advance

there should be an xml file in there, with the correct name of the files.
Use that to work out what to rename the files manually.

Hi,
This might sound stupid but I have searched all over for a program that lets me extract/read .cab files for PPC and change some settings to create a new one. Can anyone help me with the programs/links for such programs that I can use to extract and remake .cab files?
Thanks!

ZipGenius does CAB as well as RAR, 7-zip, and more, and its Free. I've pretty much dumped Winzip over ZipGenius.
http://www.zipgenius.it/
I just reread your question... ZipGenius will extract but I don't believe it will make or update PPC CABs. (I've never tried that, just used it to pull cabs apart to see whats in them)

Hi Experts,
I am working on modding the stock WM6.5 dialer by editing 'tapres.dll.0409.mui'. I have been successful in modding and skinning the complete dialer, but the dialer only works when this modded file ( tapres.dll.0409.mui) is cooked in the ROM. If this file is used to replace the stock one in the ROM after flashing ( using Total Commander, rename-replace), the dialer fails to load.
I am using Unsigner-> Restorator/PE Explorer-> mSigner( Privileged Developer Certificate).
Doesn't this method work on files in 'ROM' ?
The SDK certificates are also added in the ROM.
Any solution for this issue ?
cheers,
rishi2504

are you using the new certificates from 2010? All previous certificates have been expired on 31/12/09.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I m using the new certificates. I have also replaced other DLLs using the same signer tool. Only this mui file causes a problem if replaced on a running ROM( even if I don't modify the stock mui file, and simply unsign->sign->replace in ROM using Total Commander).

Yes, but not during cooking using provisioning xml. I have simply copied them to the device the certificate installer installs them.
thanks anyway..

The replacement was never an issue, I simply rename the original file using Total Commander and replace it. But the new replaced file doesn't load. It loads only when it is cooked in the ROM. Also, had already tried the .cab option, but that will only help in replacing the file, not in loading it (which is the real issue).
can anyone help, im used to using ringdroid for creating my own ringtones but thats not available on HD2. What app is comparable. Thanks on advance
I use MP3 Trimmer. It works great and allows you to choose any part of the song you would like. Here is the link along with some other useful cabs. It is like the 18th one down. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639964
thanks, I'll check it out
I tried to download this .cab but it downloaded as an .rar file and i don't know how to convert it for use on my phone...can you help. thanks for your time

Thanks for sharing. Inside the update are 2 cab files hidden. 121.cab seems to update the SMS/MMS files, 122.cab updates some Manila files.
I did not try to install it yet, but maybe the cab files are of interest for other cooks.
thanks....
Do we know what is supporting this update ?changelog ?

neither i see any cab file inside the EXE nor i see anything related to contact utility and people tab
Installed today; very little improvement in the frustrating slowness of the HTC Messaging service.
If I could work out how the enable the LED for unread SMS I would permanently disable it.

you should see a folder named
_HTC Touch Diamond2_TOP_S2_00472\.rsrc\BIN
Inside this folder are 2 files, named 121 and 122
Rename these files to 121.cab and 122.cab
A little bit tricky I know

Installed on my device with Mondilv's Nataly ROM and I lost all the 1.5 (Build 2016.2424) functionality of the messaging. I dont see any improvement at all.
My advise DONT install.
Edit:
I lost the Secure Box feature in Build 2016.1721
New words in T9 are still lost after power off
I installed the hotfix but new added words in the T9 dictionary are still lost after power off
Philippe Reinardts.
I'm trying to get to a conclusion about this update, but I'm seriously confused.
Install or NOT install?
PMoto
On my Diamond2, memory-usage has been reduced by 10-15% after installing the update. No other improvements.

That's not quite the problem I was referring to. My problem is that if I disable HTC Messaging and revert to Outlook for SMS/MMS using the Zenyee method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614) then the LED no longer blinks nor does MissedCallReminder detect the unread SMS.
I've already adjusted the registry key to allow for variable LED duration and it works with HTC messaging, but not without. Strangely, the other SMS notification settings (pop-up screen, vibrate etc.) work without HTC Messaging, just not the LED.
If you have any suggestions to address this issue then I (and apparently many others who have dispensed with HTC messaging in Sense 2.5) would be most grateful.
I have installed this update two days ago on the official ROM WM 6.5.1. and the only improvement that I have noticed is the display of a notification with a acustic signal when a sms is sent succesfully.
This seems to me quite useful ...
I try to install this, but the installation didn't get to an end...
Try from Memory Card, and from device too.
I must tap X of Task Manager, and tap HTC Sence in Today to get it to work again.
Strange.
The Messaging is still 1.5.2011.3831 that I have before.
how do you deactivate de sent message notification?
it really irritates me
greetz
I've installed this over WWE 2.53 Stock HTC and it certainly has improved responsiveness, particularly on long sms threads.
On a thread of 100+ messages I can now type without the focus changing to a previous message (message used to get highlighted black) and also 9 out of 10 spaces seem to be taken when typing much faster than I used to need to.
I did have an issue installing where it hung and I had to kill it with the 'X' but I then shutdown Sense and ran the update. After a short while, I got a dialog box to reset the device and after that I found that the install had helpfully re-enabled Sense. Seems to be an issue for the installer to disable Sense to start with.

Hello, my name is Joe. I need a little help with running the downloaded files directly from the HTC HD2. I have downloaded various applications from the forum, and coppied them to the Micro SD card like asked. When I go onto the file/folder on the HD2, and try to tap on it to start the install, I get redirected to the web browser.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Dude,
Give an example of what you have tried to install and what file format it was when you downloaded it.
Most are .cab files and install just by clicking them in file manager
I have downloaded:
26. 4 column start menu
BsB Tweaks 1.6
cleanRAM
KeypldLedControl_v0.4
Personalizer_2.0
TorchButton_v2.3
I have extracted the files on my PC via WinRAR, Then placed the extracted folders directly onto the MicroSD root. Most of the files appear something a little like this: '0CAB18A7.005' Or something varied like that. On Windows the setup file is recognized as an XML document, and the others end in numbers. Like: '001, 002, 003 etc.
Cheers
You've extracted cab files haven't you?
Don't do that. Just copy the cab files to your phone or SD and run them directly.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
If I don't extract, the files will then be in ZIP format. Is this what has to be done?

It's a fake zip file. in reality it's a cab file.
Cab files are self installing files.
so conclusion, don't extract them.
