Hi.
I am looking for a good looking RSS reader widget to aggregate all my RSS feeds.
I was hoping for something like the "friends" widget which aggregate all your social networking but for custom RSS feeds.
Anyone know of anything?
Thanks
I like NewsRoom. http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-trileet-android-newsroom-qiAt.aspx
NewsRoom is excellent, I also use it, but it doesn't really offer what the OP is asking for.
Since it'll add a notification of new content though it may be good enough for him (personally I prefer it that way, more space for other widgets). I guess the way it aggregates new content when you 'swipe up', arranged by provider or publication time, is quite close to what the OP is describing though...
I use default one.
Simple and can merge all my gmail subscripted rss
Try AtomaRSS!
Minimal reader.

Is there a rss feed, website, or anything for the market that i can check for updates/new apps and games. I like to keep up with them but its a pain to check the market everyday to see whats new.
you can use the google reader to read the RSS news.
I think you misunderstood my question. Im looking for a rss feed for the market place not a rss reader.
I am also interested in this, any link on androids website just takes me to the developer site to submit stuff.
No such thing yet.
Hi everyone,
I'm searching for an efficient, fast, and well designed google reader application but have not come across one that is really good.
What I'm looking for area these:
- the first level should show the folders, such as Android folder, economy folder, technology folder, etc.
- When I click on the folder, I do not wish to see the feeds such as CNN, engadget, but to the items list. I want the option to say how many items I want to show, and whether to show only new (unread) or all item.
- I want to be able to mark the items as starred item with merel one swipe, or to unmarked it.
- I want a to with one button indicate all e item on the screen as read, and fetch the nest batch of unread items. I want another button to mark all items in that folder as read although they have not been listed on the screen yet.
- when I click on the item, I want to read part of the news. Then I want to be able to swipe to the next item or go to previous item. I also want to be able to share that item to facebook, to mail to friend, etc. And I want to be able to bring up my default web brewer to go the the original web page.
More importantly, I want all these operations to be instant, without lag.
For those of you coming from iPhone background, you will recognize this as the RSS g Flash application.
I love that design very much and hope to get something like this from the market place, or as close as possible.
Could anyone help? TIA.
I use Feedr its simple yet powerful can sync folders structure. Try it
Try Newsrob.
You want NewsRoom. I found it does everything I wanted from an rss reader... it's now on my first homepage.
Thanks guys. Keep the suggestions coming. I'll try everyone before deciding which one will stay on my desktop.
Cheers.

same, i like the look and feel of it, very nice
it has that elegant yet simple clean look, that makes reading feeds and news update a joy.
+1 for feedr
+1 for NewsRob
I've tried a lot of the client apps but they all take too long to sync (and I don't like things like that happening in the background).
I've yet to find anything as good all-round as the mobile webclient from the browser.
Is there a trial version of feedr? I would like to try first before I buy.
I love the interface and response time of newsroom. It's just a pity that I can't view it by the google reader folders. I would also love to be able to see the item list first before going down to the article itself. On my iphone and iPad, I usually skim through a couple of thousand articles each day, some are repeats, or articles that don't interest me. I've also no time to read all of them. So the item list view is useful.
The news-rob is so slow I don't think it's useable for me. Too much waiting at the black screen and syncing takes too long to complete.
I've also tried out gReader which is also incredibly slow.
News reader, together with browser, music players, picture viewers, and YouTube, are among the extremely high usage application, and I don't mind paying good money of it if it is really good. But I must be assured that it meets my expectation first.
Any other recommendation?
I think the name for the preloaded "Feeds and Updates" widget is a bit misleading, because it's underwhelming overall, since only 3 platforms are supported, with no RSS and news feeds.
Well, the more selfish reason is that part of my business actually relies on RSS feeds...
Can anyone suggest a better "Feeds and Updates" widget or app out there? I think there are a ton of ways to easily improve "Feeds and Updates", such as optional Notifications support, more efficient use of the large real estate on the Home screen, and News and RSS support. But if push comes to shove, all I really want is News and RSS support in a full-screen home widget.
What say you?
Okay, the Daily Briefing app is very very good, but it's really stupid that You can't add your own feeds to it. Would anyone be interested in either modding Daily Briefing or making a new app, or is there perhaps already a good RSS reader out there?
there are two RSS readers- RSS World which is free & allows adding your own feeds but you cannot search for feeds. you can manually add the feed address which is cumbersome. Also if you have feeds from a lot of sites, they will all be mixed up together.say for example you have selected feeds from Sites A, B & C. so the first three feeds maybe from A, then a few from B, then maybe again from A, then C, then B again..etc. it would have been helpful if there were scrollable pages to the left & right so that feeds from different sites would show up on different screens.
There is also a paid reader named Q-RSS but i cannot tell you about it as i have not bought it.
Lastly, if you only want a good news widget, the AP Mobile widget is very good.
btw, if daily briefing can be modded, then it should be modded. since it is a widget, it should not be very difficult.
Try the Pulse News Reader app. You can add feeds from a huge directory or search, comes with awesome default ones. widget only shows one per widget but when you click it, it full screens and has a very nice UI. Google reader incorporation too, so just add em there and import, wa-la.
Appbrain link
But I do like the idea of the OP, I don't use the Daily briefing app. because of this.

You're in the wrong section dude, this is Bada not Android
I am in no means a proficient programmer. I have done some programming though. I know the most extreme basics.
I had a eureka moment today at work. We have typhoons here and we readily check the current weather conditions. Well, the local weather website is slow and the main means of communication is a Facebook fan page.
I was wondering how hard would it be to have an app grab info from a server and just display it. That's about it. Maybe some polish and fancy animations.
I don't think it would be much more than a few lines.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Or open a .com and make a simple, secure form that let's you selection from options that forwards that info to the app.

this has been done. its called an rss reader
Well... if you want to get technical. Most apps do this that connect to the internet.
I'm not looking for a RSS. I'm just looking to display a very specific string of text that would be very useful to the residents of the island I live on.

Seriously I would consider RSS, even if it is a widget which gets set to a single rss feed. It is what RSS was designed for, chances are the info you are after is available as RSS, otherwise it is very easy to create & host one.
The alternative is nasty if you end up parsing a site, since a single change to the site and the app is dead. Plus it would be a lot of work for something which can be very simple.
Hmm. Fair enough. Can you do widgets on the iphone? I was going to port it there too.
I just need to post a tccor and sea condition.

I've not done any android widgets or iphone. But if you are lucky you might find some suitable code somewhere for a basic RSS widget, RSS is quite a common way to do things (since you download a single file and parse the xml).
You may even find there are already apps out there which allow you to set a single rss feed for displaying in a widget. But I guess you are after something you can put in the market yourself.
The RSS feed itself is easy:
There are site which will do it for you:
i.e. feedweaver.net
There are some which will monitor pages for changes too, depending on what you need.
Otherwise you can diy, Howto Create an RSS 2.0 Feed - http://www.petefreitag.com/item/465.cfm and host the file yourself (i.e. dropbox public links or FileDen, anywhere which hosts a file with direct links).
I would recommend using Google Feedburner to set your rss feed address and then link it to your file (this means you can move your file around without requiring the feed link to change).
Of course if you can find the info already available as an RSS feed, then you can re-feed it through Feedburner so you have control of it (if it changes you can change your links without changing your app).
You might also want to check out the word-of-the-day widget in the Android SDK. It grabs very specific information from a dictionary web site and displays it using an app widget.
