Change the .exe extension to .rar and then you can extract the files.
Actually, I think if you have WinRAR installed on your PC you can just right click on the file and extract it without changing the file extension.

Hi, I would like to upgrade my Universal from a Swiss ROM to the latest Qtek 1.30.96(German), but can not find proper info on how to proceed. Fact is I get of course the country ID error. I found the procedure for such cases in WIKI, but it only applies for upgrade of ROMs that are in .zip files. And the Qtek one is only to be found in .exe in the ftp.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!
Install winrar, then right click on the exe file for the upgrade and extract the files. You'll need to use the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file to start the upgrade, you'll find a link to that in the wiki.

Many thanks! I had found it by myself soon after posting. It would have been much more straigtforward to explain that on WIKI directly, and even here in the forum.
Hey
I just got my hermes. beatiful phone. I just upgraded from the 8125, i can't even look at it anymore (my old brick).
Anyway, i unlocked it yesterday and upgarded to wm6. I liked the default 3G (wit the flame) boot screen better than the "Bring Back the ROM page" (allthough that was funny).
I want to know,
1. can someone send the origional CINGULAR 3G(FLAME)=*=*=*=> boot screen?
2. After performing a few searches, i coudln't find out how to change the boot screen. Does anyone know how?

I could not find the nhbextract.exe, but i did open nbhtool.exe...
I have the default rom which i downloaded off HTC.com... how do i extract the nbh file from the exe? i tried to run the setup to see if it would extract files in any temp folder but i could not find it.
Help anyone?
heres the link to nbh extract
open the ROM exe file using WinRAR and get the nbh file.
Run: nbhextract.exe NAMEOFNBHFILE.NBH
and the file will be extracted (nbhextract.exe and the nbh file must be in the same folder)

It is possible to use Dutty's good NBH tool for extracting NBs from NBH. I think it is more n00b friendly way as they can use point and click method and thay are not bound to have NBH in the same folder.

nbhextract will convert the .nb files directly to bmp in the same process. Duttys tool just extracts the nb files.
Thanks for the help.
Unfortunately, the rom i downloaded from htc, has a .nbf file instead of a .nbh file (which is 73.xx megs). When i use the extractor, i get error :
Error: 'nk.nbf' is not a valid .nbh file
Could not open 'tempfile.dbh'
I also tried to change the extension of the nbf file to nbh but that did not help either as i got the same error. I'm downloading the rom from http://www.america.htc.com/support/docs/ruu_hermes_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe

Hey there,
I have a ROM that I flashed onto my phone, and there are some CABs that installed after I started the phone for the first time that I would like to get out of the ROM.
What is the best way to do this, if it is even possible. Sorry if this has been asked before or if it seems like a noob question.
Surely someone can help me? I've searched and can't find anything =(
Well, first you can begin checking in your 'windows' folder and copy those *.cab files from there. I think including the panelmanager.cab even.
The other cab files are probably 'made' by some of the people here.
Is there a way to extract all the CABs from the ROM, when the ROM is still on my PC?
theres a new program by dutty that unpacks any nbh file..so im guessing u can extract d rom and look for the cab u want..

One step closer =D
hello guys, i dont own an hd2 yet but ill buy one this month but i have a question i want to add some cabs file on my device when i get. My question is i have download some cabs BUT when i open the winrar i dont get any cab file, all i get is some files that has bunch of numbers and one of them says "_setup.xml" so what should i do? should i directly put the winrar file on my hd2? since i dont get any cab file inside the winrar?? and if there's a cab file inside the winrar and i press the button "extract here" should i just upload the cab file only to my hd2 right??
Hope you guys can help me.
Thank you.
Hi.
A CAB file is a compressed installer file for mobile phones.
If you open it with winrar, you will see all the files it contains.
Just copy the original .cab file to your phone.
Click on the .cab file, and it will run the installer, and install the program on your phone.
You can choose to install to the main memory or the sd card.
Yeah - as above. What you're calling a "winrar" file is the cab file.
Extract a cab
Ok, I know this isn't the original question but...
is it possible to extract a .cab file - i mean to extract all the different files that make up the program , all the .exe .dll .ico etc etc. Wanting to do this to help me reverse-engineer a couple of omnia 2 cabs that don't work.

Tried that, all I get are 10 files. One of them is _setup.xml, the others are numbered files.
I've attached a screen capture of the files so you can see what they are.

Yes that's what you would expect as they are the cab install files.
If they don't mean anything are you sure you know what you're doing?
That's what I'm trying to find out. I assume that the WM program works in a similar way to windows program in that its a collection of files (exe, ico, dll, cfg so on so forth) that get installed in the appropriate places on the device. If so, how do you 'unpack' these files from the setup files
use a cab manager program. I don't so I can't recommend, but wincecab manager sound familiar. u can use them to create cabs of your tweaks, install files and such.
it seems that you have never used windows mobile (just copy the winrar file into the device and run it from the device)

I'm not trying to install a cab file (which the first post was about) I'm trying to decompile the omnia 2 video editor to get it to run on the HD2 but instead of starting a new thread, I asked on this one because it seemed (partially) relevant.
BTW, I've got the cab 'extracted' so thanks - no for the difficult part...
i need a stock nbh file for the tmobile hd2 to remove hardspl, i have looked throughout the forums and cannot find one that is not in an exe.

right click the .exe, choose extract here, which will dump 9 or so files, one of which (the big one) is ruu_signed.nbh
Thats what you are looking for.
