I'm using Missing Sync to backup and sync my HD2 to my Mac.
I read that I can add my own ringtones to the notifications (SMS, email, etc) by putting the mp3's into the Documents folder, or maybe the Windows folder. When I try to drag mp3's into those folders (using Missing Sync) i cannot complete the task, and get error messages.
Anyone here have success with their Mac doing this?
I was able to drag in mp3's to my Ringtone folder for the phone ringtones...

I threw a few music files in the MY PDA folder under My Documents on my PC and expected them to sync accross to my Vario II. After connecting the phone it sent a couple across then I got a warning on the phone that 'Storage Memory is Critically Low'. Obviously the files had been synced onto the phone. Thought you would be able to specify to sync onto the phone storage card but there is no option for this anywhere.
Anyone know a way to do this?
if you set up the sync option for media player in active sync and then set up the playslists you want to sync in media player on your pc it will automatically set up the folders on your card and transfer the files. it does warn not to drag and drop onto the card of you want the sync process to work.
Cheers cdyat, but this was more of a test. For instance, what if I want to sync 30Mb of Office files with my phone. It would appear that I can't just put these in the My PDA Sync folder to be copied next time I connect, but I have to cut and paste from the relevant folders.
This to me seems ridiculous but I can't see an option to change the location to sync with the storage card anywhere.
You can only sync files, be default, into main memory. There are two 3rd party apps available (Sorry can't remember the names) that will allow you to Sync anything to anywhere. One is commercial and the other is a Japenglish conversion. Try searching these forums for links.
I am all for searching, but if anyone comes up with a name for those two apps, please post =)
As another user recently posted in this forum, Pocket Controller has a Sync Manager that can be used to synchronize files and folders to any location, including storage cards.
Pocket Controller sounds very nice but $35 is quite a lot just to enable me to sync a folder to my storage card.
I had assumed there must be a registry setting somewhere on the PC that would change the default path?
Try these
http://www.mydocsunlimited.com/html/mightysync.html (Commercial)
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=985 (Freeware)
YMMV, but have a nice day...
Cheers Daniel, Mobsync looks like it might do the trick.
Acid Sync - Sync Computer Folder to SD Card\Folder
A guy I know is working on a program to do this with a much easier configuration since it just syncs Desktop folder to Storage Card folder. Pretty simple really, copy mp3 or whatever to desktop folder and it will sync to PPC folder and viceversa. Still in beta though

Just got a Hero and need help sending music from my computer to my Hero.
Thanks
Download HTC Sync and install it. Run it after it's installed, connect your Hero to the PC with the USB cable, it will go through a couple of settings.
Once it's connected to HTC Sync, on the phone at the top of the screen, drag it down and select "USB connected" Then "Mount"
You should be able to access your SD card now. Then I usually just use WMP to sync with my Hero but you could create a folder on your SD card called "Music" then just copy and paste any album folder onto your SD card.
No need to get HTC sync, just plug the phone in via usb, drag notification bar down and 'mount' then just open the external device (the phone) folder in my computer, drag whatever you want to the phone, create folders if you like for extras, like notifications, music, ringtones etc, the phone knows what these are for.
I use windows media player. Just drop and drop music onto the sync tab and when ready click on sync. This assumes you first have all your music loaded into windows media player.

hi Cooney,
you can try using iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite.
It allows you to backup both contacts and SMS from windows mobile to computer - Backup contacts and SMS into Text file format(.txt file).
I would backup your contacts in a .txt file via your HD and then transfer that file over to your PC, when you connect your phone via USB, make sure you select the Disk Drive radio button to avoid having ActiveSync immediately synchronise with Outlook. Then access your Removable Disk from My Computer and transfer the file over to your PC from there.
Hope this works.
Best Regards.

When you first establish an Activesync connection to your pc, it asks if you want to merge phone and pc, replace phone details with pc or pc details with phone. Choose either the first or last option (first is better for future sync's)
The iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite sounds like a good idea but it costs too much. I discovered that i could change the settings before it synced my contacts, so now i have it connected to the computer but still no way of moving my contacts from the phone to the computer. Are there no free ways of doing this?
Activesync is free. Did you not read my post?

Yes. That's the annoying thing, iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite as you will have to eventually have to pay for the software. However, if it makes any difference, you can download it from the link provided above, and use it's Free-Trial offer - allowing you to only backup the first 20 contacts/SMS.
EDIT: you might want to try Turbo Contacts Backup. It's free but it's requirements state it is only compatible with Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5 , 6 , 6.1... try it out and hopefully it will work with 6.5.
.
Regards.

Hi again Cooney,
First off, you are not stupid. Things are only easy when you know how.
Try this:
In WMDC on your PC, go to Options -> Settings and choose the setting to merge items on the desktop.
Hope this helps you out dude,
Best Regards.

Okay, my fault. I am using you as a guide as I don't use Windows 7 or WMDC
What you will need to do is delete your WMDC partnership (both on PDA and PC) and next time you try to sync your device to the PC with the USB cable, you should be given an option to merge your items or opt to replace all items.
Regards.
I've tried two ROMs and both took at least three minutes to load the music tab.I have filed about half of my 16gb memory card with music and when i click the music tab the screen becomes unresponsivefor a few minutes and then any screen presses are carried out after the album artwork has loaded. does anyone else face this lag with the music tab? and how can I fix it? this is extremely annoying as it freezes the phone!
have u used the sync or disc mode to load the music?
I used the disk mode. is this the problem? I have been unable to sync my device using active sync because when I connect it,I get a message saying that outlook isn't the default email client or something and then the device charges but is nowhere to be seen on my computer.thanks for the quick reply btw

yep ! Same here ... a real pain. But I've found no solution yet ...
I've ca. 4GB music on my card and all is fast and responsive. Stock 1.48 GER.
It could have several reasons be that you have faulty mp3 or and faulty card.
On the other side its always better to sync music via Windows Media Player rather than doing it via copy/paste.
I would go for a format. and then try to make active sync working because sooner or later you will need it. If you can't do it right now I would try to copy the stuff folder by folder by folder. Before doing this i would check wheter all the files are valid. There are several threads here describing how to check this. Mp3Val is a good adress to begin with. Just download and run it over all mp3 files: http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/
In addition I would also have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5220474#post5220474 and check for those hints...
Cheers,
LEE
thanks

thank you! I connected my hd2 to a different laptop where outlook allowed me to use the active sync connection and I resynced using windows media player. the music tab works a treat now!
Do I have to sync everything or is there a way to sync only certain items?
I'm using Multimedia Synch by doubleTwist which came with the phone.
I want to be able to sync 1 movie on my phone without having to sync all my other songs because everytime I sync just the movie section it deletes my music off the phone.
Any help is appreciated.
You could connect in disk drive mode and drag and drop the movie in the folder of your choice.
Also can try to use Card with jacket
& insert in PC
with the phone

It is not a perfect solution, and not just for media, but what I do , is connect in disk mode and use a program called Super Flexible File Synchronizer, it will actually Synchronize the directories, making sure they are exact ...
does no conversion or anything, just syncs, also works for keeping a good backup of my whole SD card once a week or so ...
