i searched everywhere and cannot find a solution to the problem. my weather isn't updating and my gmaps isn't locating me either. a couple observations..
1)weather does update when im connected to wifi
2) i tried different methods people used in the forum like - disabling my location, soft reset, plug into activesync, and re enable (doesn't work). i also tried going into settings>connections>connections>manage existing connections> and checking the access point name. (doesn't work). also, using advanced config>gps>turning off gps logging and setting size to 0. (doesn't work)
3) i tried flashing different radios and eventually running a task29 to see if that would fix it. nothing.
im starting to lose hope if ever fixing it. anyone please helpp

OK, i just fixed mine today, it had been showing the weather in the 20 F's and it's up to 80s here in fl. so .... i kept messing with it and I ended up accidentally pressing that little timestamp to the upper righthand corner with the circled arrows. See if that helps?
nope, didnt seem to work. the arrows just spin and spin and nothing ever updates. any other ideas?
how about run your gps and let it detect your gps hardware and also allow it to detect your location?
(if not can you exchange it with a new one and test it out from the store?)
Guys please help this guy out!!

when you say "run your gps", you mean like enable gps in google maps and let it detect? ya i did that and it works fine, with it off, its still supposed to get me a location by the towers or somethin'. with gps on or off, my weather still doesn't update
im running the cell rom and hspl and feel extremely lazy undoing everything just to do an exchange. plus no t-mobile has inventory.... i work there.. so i know lol

Yes, your location and weather won't update until it can find your location via at least aGPS. You're saying that you can open google maps and get a satellite locked position? The next thing to check is that in both your WM GPS settings and your google GPS settings, you have them set to "managed by windows"

Hmmm. What does it show in your device GPS settings (all settings-system-external GPS-"programs" and "access" tabs)? And, also in your location settings (settings tab-location)?
My location [weather] is not updated by GPS. Its updated by cell towers. The only way I know of fixing this problem is to try different radio roms.
yes the com settings match. and Google does locate my position. weather still no update. i would have to agree that it has to do with the radios. anyone know of a radio that works?
I'm on 2.08.50.xxx radio

Yeah I know, but whenever I hard-reset, I don't get my location to update until I go into gmaps and get it to achieve a lock, then my location updates immediately after that.

Currently there is no answer for this. Simply add your location manually and select that for the clock location. I'm doing that and have never had an issue with the fact that "my location" is in the list.

I've never tried to remove it myself, so I can't be sure, but you could just disable and re-enable Sense in the Today settings. That should do the trick.
just wanted to share an experience i have had
i was having the same problem with the "my location" updating since i updated to the 1.6 WWE ROM
what i discovered is, when i go to central london, it works, but when i am in north london it doesnt - now for those that know london, you will recognise the town Camden - well when in central london it picks up place name Camden
i think the problem might be to do with the device being unable to recognise where you are - if i find it i will post the link to a thread i read last night (1:23am lol) that said it was possible to add custom locations to the weather widget and this might very well resolve the errors with getting weather at these locations, but i have made no changes to any settings neither felt the need to remove "my location" and it works fine suddenly

There have been a few threads on this problem - none of them have come up with a full solution as yet, though some 'workarounds' are available.
The situation you describe is typical though. Another poster described exactly the same situation for four different parts of London - 2 working - 2 not!
I did a little bit of analysis and research and I do not think the problem lies (in the main) with the phone not being able to recognise where it is. Most posters say the 'my location' in GoogleMaps works fine!
I think the problem is one of 'translation'. The location code used by GoogleMaps is a different format to the one used to query AccuWeather when you manually select a town/city on the Weather page.
Somewhere along the line, the one has to be 'translated into the other. I THINK (and I stress that deliberately), that this translation works for certain locations and not for others.
If someone actually KNOWS how this translation works (and who 'owns' the 'translation' process), I would be very interested to hear about it.

how do you do this? (add location manually). my 'add location' is greyed out. i'm not using a data plan, but using wi-fi to update the weather.
thanks
update: i figured out what was going on. the app only allows 12 cities. once you're 'full' the 'add location' greys out. and the '+add city' disappears.
Hi guys, I seem to be having a problem after using MITTY. After sucessfully following the guide for MITTY and then re-flashing Stock 1.66 my location is screwed up. I changes from were I am to Linkoping. I never had this problem before using the MITTY procedure.
Any advice guys?
Seg
Firstly, its not a problem with mtty. It is not possible that doing the mtty proceedure can affect something in a rom that is flashed after. You need to look elsewhere for your problem. (I would suggest you haven't activated location services in settings - menu - all settings - system and/or activated 'my location' in the weather tab.)

Cheers for your reply mate, but all the required settings are set correctly. As I said, never had this issue before using MITTY. I'm not saying MITTY has caused it, but rather why is it happening. I have also flashed a cooked rom this evening and same thing with that too.
Just seems strange thats all, and a pain in the arse when it adjusts your time too.
Seg
Heh, yea can see it would be a pain. Since it is adjusting your time too, all i can suggest is you double check the following
settings - menu - all settings - system - regional settings and also location services.
Aslo, check the time/date on your PC, could be that the time is being changed y that.

Hi all
I'm loving the sense clock widget with weather but I have an annoying problem with it; in my home location I don't get any weather information. If I add the exact same location (same capitalisation, spelling etc) manually and set the widget to use that location it works fine and if I leave it on "current location" I start getting weather updates as soon as I leave my local area.
I started pulling some of the APKs with weather in the name from the phone and tried to look at the xmls to see if there was something I could tweak to get it working but the files seem to be in some sort of binary encoding that I can't open, so I'm stuck already.
Anyone able to suggest what to try next to get this working properly?

I think it had something to do with your provider settings. When I got the Desire I still had my old provider (KPN). I also had this "current locations weather bug" after two weeks I switched over to Vodafone, updated the APN settings, and everything is ok! Hope this helps you a little!

TThanks for this, tried resaving apn details but no change, so annoying that it work everywhere but at home!
I've emailed HTC support about it, got this reply:
Dear Leszek, Thank you for contacting us in regards to weather updates, I can help you with that. The location service for weather updates is based on information from your cell provider and relies on the masts in your area being enabled for this service. If you are in a 3g area disabling this from settings, wireless controls, mobile networks and then updating may help. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Best regards, Mike B HTC

to which I replied
Dear Mike, I do not believe that the problem is with the location service -- as I said, my current location is correctly given as "Cambridge (Current)". Nonetheless, I tried disabling the mobile network, and indeed have now tried all combinations of disabling/enabling the mobile network, wireless and gps, none of which worked. Is there a way to see exactly what weather data the device is requesting? I know I had trouble on a previous phone, which was requesting data for "Cambridge, Cambridge" instead of "Cambridge, UK".

Still waiting for a reply to that one -- it's been a week though, so it's becoming unlikely that they'll actually reply with a real solution.
I have search around and can't find a solution either, at the end, i just remove the time widget, add to the home screen again, and choose city instead of current location...

This is what I have done as a work around but I would like to use the location aware one as it's cool to have the local weather when I commute to work (40miles away), was hoping we could hack the app to make it work better as it doesn't look like HTC are going to finish. I guess I need to dust off my Java skills and start reading about JF's decompiler.
I have the same issue and find it very annoying!
I installed "Beautiful Widgets" and set that up to show the clock with weather set to be location based and it works fine (unfortunately it's not quite as beautiful as the HTC widget!).
Surely this proves that the bug is with the HTC widget and not anything provider based? Anyone else fancy trying to see if Beautiful widgets works when the HTC widget doesn't?
Similarly, the weathernetwork widget works fine for my location whereas the HTC one doesn't
I upgraded from 1.6 ATT to 1.6 02, to 2.1, to 2.2 (1.4.6) last night. My GPS is no longer working...I've searched the forums and only found this:
Get "GPS Status" from market; then:
1. Menu --> tools --> Manage A-GPS State --> Reset.
2. Menu --> tools --> Manage A-GPS State --> Download
Which I tried, but still not working. Anyone have ideas or a fix?
Thanks!
Hi there,
I had the exact same problem...
Tried the exact same thing as you and had the same luck.
It seemed that it was something to do with Geolocation as i saw that the GPS status was picking up the satilites.
I then stumbled around and found the following fix myself
I use beautiful widgets.
Tap the weather icon, the tap the middle button (opens up the configure section etc)
Tap configure, then goto advanced
Select FORCE GPS.
Then it worked, although after that I may have found another possible solution....
I very rarely use the google search bar. I did and it asked me to enable location, so maybe this is another way it would work... would be interesting to see if the second fix works first.
Anyway hope this helps & good luck
Tried enable location in google, no luck. Also downloaded beautiful widgets, went to advanced in weather app and checked force GPS, no luck. Any other ideas?
I take it the gps app is picking up the satilites?
Maybe its a case of re-flash

I have the same problem. It seems somewhat temperamental after the update. It can see and get a fix on 10+ satellites in GPS Status and other similar apps. But getting an accurate position in Google Maps is damn near impossible. Very frustrating.

Now, for this gpsfix.zip, do I just flash it from my recovery? Or are there some other steps to follow?
Hi,
I'm an Android noob. I recently picked up a Fascinate 3G+ from Telus (T959D) and noticed that the GPS wasn't working at all; could never get a lock. I just upgraded to Gingerbread this morning hoping that the update would resolve the issue, and it did momentarily, but now the GPS is worthless again (no lock at all).
Searching the web, I find a lot of "fixes", but they all seem to relate to Froyo. I haven't seen anything specific for Gingerbread releases.
I tried to update the AGPS configurations (as per several threads indicated) by dialing *#*#1472365#*#* , but as soon as I enter the final *, the number gets wiped out and nothing happens (just remains at the dialer with a blank entry). I don't know if this is because it is a Telus Fascinate and not a Vibrant/Captivate/etc, or if it is because of Gingerbread.
Either way, does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to fix the GPS under Gingerbread? I love the phone, but this GPS issue is driving me nuts.
Thanks,
Eric
It's universally accepted that the stock SGS phones have terrible GPS. I've had trouble in the past accessing the LbsTestMode (GPS Settings menu) on my phone due to differing phone codes and whatnot.
You can try downloading some apps from the market that bypass the dialer and just runs the service directly (SGS Tools for example)
I personally use Launcher Pro as my home replacement for Touchwiz, and using that I can create a shortcut directly to the GPS settings.
Here's a guide outlining how to get to it:
http://www.gmachine.net/tech/1-click-gps-settings-with-launcher-pro-activities/
The custom rom I use does not have the lbstest service though so I can't verify
You can also access some of the gps settings by going to /etc/gps.conf from your phone's root directory.
I don't know if this will help but my GPS takes forever to aquire location. I found an app called gpsfix run that then run navigation and it should work.

Some roms claim to do so, and some users will swear by it. However, there's no concrete evidence of it being the case, unless the rom directly tinkers with your GPS settings (something anyone can do manually)

Had this too on stock. I'm on a custom rom right now, but no GPS Status app to confirm. I'd put my GPS reliability around 65% (with AGPS)
edit: Sometimes, my GPS would act dead no matter how long it sits. A hard reboot usually does the trick, but not always

Gingerbread install must have set the default home launcher to the default touchwiz launcher. You can try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All and find TwLauncher. Under "Launch by default" click the [Clear defaults] buton and then push your Home button. It should let you choose between Launcher Pro and Tocuhwiz.
However, you can still add Launcher Pro shortcuts by long-pressing anywhere on your home screen even if you're not using Launcher Pro as your home launcher.

That guide requires you to tinker with the GPS settings which, in your orignal post, suggests you were not able to access. After you're able to access the (angry)gps settings (via an app or launcher pro), you can follow the guide. It's a one-time fix, no app will be running in the background.
