Sorry if this is a dumb question but I could not find an answer using the search function. I am trying to flash a zip and when I try to get into recovery mode using power and home, the screen gets stuck on the black HTC screen. How can I fix this? and thank you in advance.
This might be a stupid question but...
Have you rooted your phone and flashed a recovery image?
Yes I have I am on Fresh 2.0d and with the latest recovery image.
Hmm that's weird. Try holding home first and then clicking and holding power... I dunno. Sometimes I just can't get it cause I let go of home for a nanosecond.
I've tried that as well but I may just have to do a nandroid backup.
Last week I tried to update to 1.6.2 and I did it through Terminal Emulator which worked out but this is my first time since then that I've tried to use it.
Wow I just realized that I wont be able to do a nandroid restore if I can't get into Recovery mode. FAIL.
down volume button and end call button, When it pops up hit home button... If that doesnt work, idk lol
adb reboot recovery?
push the recovery image again, try that.
The thing is that I'm no good with the commands since I have not been able to set it up on my macbook but could I just do it again using the terminal emulator?
dont see why not. cant hurt

follow this guide, can't get much simpler than that. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1319054&postcount=28
do you have a windows setup you can use or is this strictly from a mac computer? i think these commands would be the same anyways?
I will give that a shot but before I try that I am going to look for the post on here. Someone actually typed out the commands needed to update from the terminal but I just have to find it.

I have been trying to get my friends MYTOUCH 4G back to stock in order to replace it with WARRANTY. The POWER button is NOT working, so I am having a heck of a time with this. I also did the Gfree unroot method but it's rebooting into Fastboot and since the POWER button is broken, I am unable to select anything in order to get it to HBoot (as instructed with the Gfree unroot method) I need to reboot into HBoot in order for it to read the PG15IMG zip. Using ADB, what is the COMMAND prompt to get it to the HBOOT (not FASTBOOT), as "ADB reboot bootloader" is rebooting into FASTBOOT?
And if this is NOT possible, I would further ask how would one flash a rom using ADB commands?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA Premium App
to go to hboot, you have to click the bootloader button, but i am not sure how you would be able to do that since your power button is broken. my best suggestion is to try messing with the power button while highlighting bootloader.

That's the issue, the POWER BUTTON DOES NOT WORK. But thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone else? I know there has got to be a ADB command to get into HBOOT. Or, if that is not possible, how can I get ADB to read the PG15IMG.zip to put it back to stock, PLEASE!

Non-existent things? You mean to tell me there is NO WAY to get into Hboot using adb commands? That doesn't sound correct to me.
If that is not possible, how can I flash the PG15IMG.zip using the ADB commands? There has got to be a way to flash a rom if the Power button doesn't work. You can do EVERYTHING with ADB, I can't imagine not being able to do this too.

EXACTLY... But when I boot using the following ADB Command "adb reboot bootloader" it is not booting into HBoot, it boots into FASTboot which does NOT read the pd15img.zip
How can I flash this using ADB commands, so that the device may be returned as it was STOCK.

might actually work. You need to be in what most would consider fastboot. And that program looks to have "reboot into fastboot". but i'm not sure if it's actually going to, or just wording.
Otherwise just ask around on how to brick the phone, may be a simple adb command or a few battery pulls while doing something in recovery

The phone appears to be pretty new. I think the [OP] is wanting to exchange the phone under warranty due to a malfunctioning button rather than pay 130$ for a warranty claim.
This is how you do everything, without a power button.
Recovery
Code:
adb reboot recovery
bootloader
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot
hold down the back button and boot your phone. A reboot will work, just have perfect timing when you hit and hold the back button.
Power on phone
Clockwork recovery has a bug that automatically boots to recovery. The latest update still has the bug, but the screen stays off. do this
Code:
> adb devices
List of attatched devices
(serial number) recovery
adb shell reboot
There, all the magic you need.

After reading your posts I understand a lil bit better. Your kind of screwed but one option you can do is a bunch of pages back you will find a completely stock rom that is flashable throught recovery. It still has root and obviously wont give you s-on. However, atleast its stock so they don't notice it as easily if they turn the device on.
Also I returned 1 phone that was still rooted with a custom rom and didn't get charged. I also have heard of other members doing the same so don't worry to much

you cannot flash the PD15IMG.zip via recovery. It can only be done via hBoot.
IIRC there is a ROM that someone pulled of a stock [no one logged into] MyTouch4G so everything will look the same.

awesome. so i'm ok with installing it straight from rom manager right?
i'm a little paranoid bc a lot of people seem to be posting about bricking their fires.
Unknown. But if you follow the "bricked fire" threads, you'll see that most people find ways to get them back. So I think a lot of folks are at times stuck, but not truly bricked. I think the most common problem, and the one that bit me too - is being stuck in fastboot and therefore having the device not accessible by adb. And they, like me, panic a bit and think they've bricked it. Granted, I'm sure there are ways of truly bricking it, but as long as you're patient, I think KFU and the fastboot command can get you out of most problems.

Agreed. Doomlord's CWM recovery port is awesome. It's touch based and I've tried most every feature and it seems very solid. I installed it in a much easier fashion than most... I just copied it to my SD area and used the dd command to put a copy into the recovery partition. I did this during normal operation of the Kindle.... No fastboot necessary in using that method. Neall.

That method is sketch. Fastboot is the proper way to flash a recovery. Any other way you risk trouble. Wear your rubbers and use the fastboot binary.

its not sketch, just no room for error.
put recovery.img on the root of ur SD card, than open mobile terminal, than type these commands.
su (enter)
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/mmci-omap-hs.1/by-name/recovery (enter)
just don't mistype it, all it does is make a copy directly to the /dev folder.
this is how, rom manager actually puts cwm on ur device.

Hi all!!
I have a huge problem i think.
Yesterday is was rooting my device, and i was about to start flashing a custom rom.
What happened is that in the proces of wiping dalvik cache etc. I by accident wiped the whole system!
So now if i want to reboot, recovery gives the error that there is no OS is installed. If i reboot my nexus 7 keeps hanging in the startup screen wich only displays Google...
It still can reboot in recovery or bootloader, but i cant figure out how to recover. I tried with 2 toolkits, but no succes! I made a nandroid backup but this doesnt work either.
Also i tried several solutions but none of them helped.
Does someone know how i can get my N7 to work again?? :crying:
Wugfresh's toolkit allows you to flash the stock image from the bootloader. Just make sure you check the box that states you cantvpower the device up.
Mskips toolkit, chose the option to flash Google image, it will download, and flash for you, if not your doing it wrong, push comes to shove your going o have to download a custom ROM and use adb to to push it on to your nexus 7 then fire up cwm and lash the rom, your nandroid will be gone unless you took it off/copied to a PC before you messed up.

Code:
adb push name-of-rom.zip /data/media
Then flash that rom?

pretty simple. if you know how to use adb then you just need to just a ROM to apply. wether it be the stock or a custom. once you know what ROM, the easiest thing is to paste it into your adb folder (usually platform-tools) and just push it onto your sd card

Do you have cwm or twrp installed? If so you can mount the 7 like a mass storage device to your computer. If I could get my phone to be recognized by the PC, I have my TWRP backups on my laptop.
