I want to know if there is an other way to turn the HD2 on then the standard way. Press the phone down button.
Becouse I think my buttons are a bit broken. Maybe not but I think it.
I can't hear the click sometimes and I also don't feel the click.
I want to know this becouse I want to flash to a custom rom.
I Have already done it with Artemis V11 rom and it was GREAT! I used SSPL.
Have flashed it back becouse my warranty and when it is real broken. How can I reset my device then. Flash back then.
I hope you know the answer for me.
PS. Sorry for my bad English.
The only other way that I could think that may work (haven't tried) might be by pressing the reset button
I think Svegetto is right - The soft reset button will switch it on.

I'm going to try it now, and when it works I'm going to flash it back to Artemis V11. Thanks for the info.
It didn't work, Let's wait for an other option. Thanks for the answser
I'm pretty sure if you take the battery out, plug in the charger, then place the battery back in it'll turn on. Mine seems to do that, anyway.
Not very helpful when you're out and about, though.
like said in the above post sometimes when i need to reboot due to freeze i take the battery out and when putting it back it its switches ok automaticaly. But only sometimes
Try rubbing it gently while telling it how wonderful it is.

doesn't do that for me, and I do that quite often as I always switch the drained battery with another one

lol, silly yet funny, I suppose I expected that coming from someone while opening this thread
Just a suggestion, as I think it worked on my HD1, b ut does plugging it in with no battery in do anything? (hope someone will quickly point out if this will be dangerous!)

I can imagine this could be potentially fatal to the HD2... I'm certainly ain't gonna try it on mine !
Hehe I used to do it at odd times... (my power button was broken in the 'on' positions, so I was always taking the battery in/out to turn it off/on)
Will it turn on without the battery???
Have one that came without battery, does not turn on at all, nothing happens. Does it have t have a battery installed to turn on?

that is because you are using MAGLDR (for android, according to your signature). when you plug in the charger when the device is off, MAGLDR turns the device on so that an OS (WP7 or android) can load and charge the battery...because MAGLDR itself does NOT support charging the battery when the device is off.
to answer the original question, my observation about the standard/stock behavior is that the device needs a battery to be inserted to be able to turn on. so plugging in a charger with NO battery won't get you anywhere. if battery is present (with or without charger plugged in), it will turn on only when the power button (end call button) is pressed. MAYBE the reset button might also work, but never tried it that way.
Just flash Magldr

anybody else run into this? i know if i installed a programmed that messed up the startup but if i have to power down the phone and turn it on, the only way i can complete this is by taking the batter out and putting it back in and then the phone powers on.
I just started to have the same trouble. I am going to be doing a wipe and starting over this weekend ... hopefully that will clear up the trouble.
Let me know how that works for you. Mine is doing the same thing.
Having the same problem here, can't figure out why.

this all sounds ominous
i have problems getting mine to turn on as well. i find i have to press and hold the power button for 5 or more seconds to get it to turn on. this may be intentional...
Mine seems to have the same issue, I have to take my battery out also.
Not a big deal since I dont reset often, and its not Windows mobile.

The only time I've had this happen was when the device was connected to the charger, either too the pc or plug. Removing the cord and letting the notification light go off allowed me to boot again normally.

Yep. Sounds like you messed with settings that you don't know what you're changing. Start with a clean slate and don't edit what you don't know.
guys when you hit power off the Orange led lights... the phone is not fully shut down until that light turns off (30sec to a min). after that the phone can turn back on without a battery pull.

I can assure you I didn't change any settings I didn't know I was changing. And BTW there's no setting that's "Don't let phone turn on without taking the battery out first" and no other settings anywhere, not in EPST, not in Testing, nowhere that would create this problem.
I have found that once you turn it off if you wait 45 seconds all the way up to 2:00 minutes the phone will turn back on without a battery pull.
Ohwut, go to Settings...About Phone...Battery and Boot...and uncheck the box for "Don't let phone turn on without taking the battery out first". You were probably screwing around in here and checked this one by mistake.

i needed a laugh this morning.
I was having this same problem. I decided to take it into sprint to see what they had to say. I haven't rooted or done anything with my MSL. After about 15 minutes the techs told me that it was a bad battery. They put a black hero battery in the phone and I have not had a single problem since. they did not wipe my phone back to factory, just replaced the battery.
Maybe you would have luck with the same thing... My suggestion is if you upgraded from a hero like I did, try your hero battery. if you don't have any problems after that, put the evo battery back in and take it to the sprint store and get yourself a replacement battery for it... I can't guarantee that that they won't wipe your phone so backup first. Always backup before taking your phone in to be serviced.

Mine was off for 5-10 minutes and no light and no response to holding the power down. No options to power off or turn on. NO response at all till I pulled the battery out and replaced it. It hasnt happened since. Of course I had to be with a bunch of iphone users so they were having their fun.

Mine has the same problem. I bought mine from radio shack so trying to get them to do anything is like pulling teeth. And they don't reserve Evos in case something goes wrong like a sprint store does.
I hate to bump such an old thread, but...
Mine will NOT turn back on once I turn it "off" without a battery pull. I'm talking like, waiting more than 5 minutes.
Anybody know what's happening here?

I had this issue for awhile but it seemed to go away on its own. I have a feeling it might have been a buggy app that either got uninstalled or fixed in an update.
But it was a very annoying problem!!

try short presses of power button, usually 3rd to fifth press turns it on for me, w/o batt pull
what rom or version are you using? when I was on the 1st OTA update rom I had that problem. But when I OTA to 1.47 it went away. now I am on froyo and of course it's good.
yesterday my mobile fall down..
and like all of you know when that phone falls down the battery go out and it turns off
but this time it cannot start
im pressing the power button and nothing happens..
but when im plug in to the usb cable which is connected with my pc it trying to start then it shut down and then it restarts to turn on.
i think the problem is about the software..
do you know any solution
Software does not get corrupted by phone falling down. It's got to be hardware problem, that's why you cannot switch it on.

when it felt down the battery got out and it turned off when it worked..
so i think is a software problem..
is there any method for flashing it again while is damaged?
also when im putting it to charge im power it on and it shows the logo smart mobility and then it restarts so im almost sure it a software problem..
also it can charge
Successfully upgraded HD2 phone to Windows Phone 7 (thanks DFT and everybody else) but after a power off (using the power button) I can't power on the phone without first removing and refitting the battery. Then the phone will power on normally. Any ideas?
try doing a factory reset in setting > about. it will look like the phone has shut off, but let it sit, then the phone will successfully reset and power on automatically. DOIT.
I've also noticed that after the "Goodbye" screen shows up and then the screen completely turns off the device itself stays on for a couple secs... Sometimes it turns off completely right away..
I noticed that while the is phone charging... when you normally turn it off the charging light turns off along with the phone... then it starts charging again for like 2secs light turns off and the phone turns back on since MAGLDR doesnt let it charge while its off... if you get one im trying to say

Just trying to paraphrase for you....
When you turn off the phone, be patient. It seems to have turned off but is really on for a short time after the screen goes dark. Give it a second

Not that I know of. Your power button is dead I presume. If you see the battery charging animation it should mean your motherboard / main board is still alive..
Sent from Halo.
if that is true

If this is true, do you have a suggestion for me?
I can not find anything on here with my similar situation. I dropped my nexus in the water. Put it on rice for like5 days. I charged it and got a charge signal, but when I powered it on, as soon as it got to the main screen it auto powers off. I replaced the battery with a new one AND did a factory reset. It still does the same thing.

which main screen? The Nexus main screen or the normal home screen?
It could either be
A - You might have low battery, leave it plugged in for a few hours and try turning it on
B - Your main/mother board is dead.
