Never sleep with your friends wife and never root your friends phone!

I am trying to copy this file into the /wifi folder and soon as I hit paste the original file disappears after it asks me to overwrite it. If I hit refresh the folder is empty. for the life of me I cant get that file on there. I am using root explorer. Its a custom file for using LEAP authentication here that other android people are using and it works for them but they have a Galaxy and I have an Aria..

it's because aria is S-OFF (NAND-LOCKED)...you'll have to do this via adb.

I did some research on this and on my boot screen it shows S-ON. Supposidly unrevoked was supposed to give me root access but I guess it failed? Where would I go from there can you run unrevoked again?

That's what i meant, sorry. S-ON is correct. You probably have root access. either way, you need to do this from ADB while you are in clockwork recovery. there are directions on this on the aria forums.
Edit: When i say directions on this i don't mean exactly what you are attempting to do but rather, the concept of pushing things to the phone with adb.
I have tried over the last 3 days to perm root my phone I have everything downloaded that the post say and I got the temp root to work fine but when I put the root file on my sdcard and use terminal emulator it keep telling me that it is not found. I have not recieved the OTA update yet but I want my phone perm root I need help bad!!!!! Someone please help me what do I do.......
Let me explain what your post looks like:
"Hi, I read the instructions and don't follow them correctly, please help me to understand what I'm not doing right, but I won't give you any information whatsoever about what I'm trying to do and what response I receive, I'll let you guess that or count on your telepathic abilities and just wait for the answer".
Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Follow the instructions carefully and post the exact step which fails for you. That includes posting the exact command that you attempt and the response that you receive.

Yeah in all fairness to the first reply, there really isnt much info to go on to help ya troubleshoot. Tell us which step you are on first. The things that come to mind when you are saying the file is not found is that the root file is not on the root of your sd card or that you didnt punch in the commands correctly in terminal emulator.

Here is a good how to video i found on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4B4y0CQUDo that plus the link that Jack_R1 posted you should be able to true permaroot
Just a shot in the dark but are you putting the space in after cd when entering the commands?
su
cd /sdcard/root
If you don't have the space, it will say not found..
Okay, so heres my case i rooted my play and installed the custom ROM GBTweaked0. Since then i couldn't access my Recovery or install my old rom from my SD card. Me being a n00b, i tried uninstalling busybox, the uninstall failed and since then my apps seem to have lost root access and im missing /system/bin/sh.
Please if anyone could help me get the sh file back i'd greatly appreciate it. i just want my phone running back on my stock rom
try downloading busybox installer from the market it has every version if that doesnt work reroot or give those apps permission in superuser again

i already tried reinstalling busybox from the market and it claims it doesnt have root access even though it does. i made sure in super user
you could find the busybox files and move them manually to the correct location

i dont think that that would work either because system/bin is a read only folder. so even if i knew how to manually install busybox the way your talking about i don't think that it would let me.
never mind i flashed to stock 2.3.2 using WotanServer. Thanks for the help

yes, but like i said in my first post, i tried uninstalling busybox which deleted the sh file in my system/bin folder which must have taken root access away.
But again, it's all good now cus like i said i managed to flash back to stock 2.3.2 using WotanServer and updated to 2.3.3, rooted, restored all my apps, and now my phone is back to normal.
Hey all in UK as ever
Finally my Arc has been updated to the above OS
Came as a complete shock to me as I was going to start looking round for a diff phone but now am on ICS am happier
Slight problem
Previously I had Superuser App and Titanium backup installed and removed the bloatware from my service provider. I tried doing this again once the update was completed but Titanium says it cannot get root access and Superuser is not listing it at all and I cannot add it.
Please help
Have you read the relevant 587 rooting threads, as you've obviously lost root access during the update.

You've obviously missed a step then, re read whatever guide to root you've used and try again.
You got arc (lt15i)
Just testpoint, boot a kernel, install root with cwm

Hi Nath,
If you tried to root with Doomlords root toolkit try using DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su instead found here, near the bottom of first post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
I struggled for a while but this worked first time..
good luck and stick with it..

thanks for pointing out but this failed also with a read only system error.
suspect it is the carrier
I`m just a novice at this game but I dont see how the carrier could affect root as you flash generic .587 firmware to begin with...
Have a look at this great video and follow it point by point but use the alternative root kit than the one shown, although I didnt run programmes from command prompt like he suggests..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjv71b9QcZE
Sorry if you have already seen it.
Keep trying , you`ll get there in the end..

Interesting post here saying that 587 cannot be rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105325
May explain why i am having issues
Quite right , .587 cannot be rooted directly. You have to downgrade by flashing an earlier version kernel.
So its...Flash .587 firmware - FLASH .562 KERNEL ONLY - root with DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su - flash original .587 kernel..
Watch the video , all is explained within it ...

Hi I got it fixed by flashing SuperSU, update it, then go into settings of SuperSU and Install , then look for Swotch to SuperUser, it un install itself, then go to SuperUser and update...
All done
I'm a total noob to phone development, so when I read guides about installing the wp_mod, I'm confused. It's the last step to rooting this and getting rid of this crapware, so I really want to get it done. I downloaded the file and I copied it to my SD, downloaded terminal emulator to run the su command, but that's where I get lost. Can anyone sort of walk me through it? Thank you.

Try this
KitKat http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/development/mod-enable-init-d-stock-kernel-vm-t2987126
Lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...-disable-writeprotection-sense-stock-t3091456
I have used both mods and they both work.
