startup tone - Legend General

Is there a way to kill startup tone or at least reduce its volume? Doesn't seem to be linked with any of the system volumes

you can try to look for SilentBoot in the market. make sure you enable it after successfully installing it

when I put mine onto vibrate it doesn't make a startup tone

thanks, putting on silent does the trick, easy enough...

[Q] How to Disable Shutter Sound?

Wither the phone is on silent/vibrate or not, the camera always makes the shutter sound. When recording a video, it always makes a bloop when you hit record and stop. There is no setting for disabling this like my previous phones have had.
Without using a third party camera app (I've seen people on other forums suggest Cool FX which is not free) is there a way to disable this?
Try searching around in the system for a .ogg file that could be the shutter sound and renaming it.

I use an app called "Volume Toggle(free)". I set a custom profile and use an on screen widget to adjust the profiles. Set the system volume to 0. This will also get rid of the DTMF tones, unlock clicks, and other UI sounds.

What app do you recommend for browsing the files? The built in one doesn't seem to do much good.

This works great, but it's a bummer I have to run a third party app to do it. It is nice however that there IS a third party app to do it.
Yeah. It was one thing that bothered me coming from BlackBerry. Every app was customizable with sound, volume, vibration, led, etc. It was great.

Could try SilentSnap:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/silentsnap-camera-free/com.blundell
Have heard some concerns, but it does work (After using it, double check your alarm volumes.. evidently the camera sound is DIRECTLY tied to the alarm volume... making an alternative solution to simply turn your alarm volume all the way down I believe...
HTH!
*Edit:
Looks like .ogg file is in /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
Don't know what affect it would ahve to delete it.. but you could always rename it, and then make a copy of VideoRecord.ogg (which I believe is SILENT), and rename the copy to camera_click.ogg
Should work *shrug*

What would be the best way to find that file? What app are you using to browser the phone file system?
There is actually an easier way of doing this. Here's how to have a silent camera, including the autofocus sound with no external apps or editing/renaming system files. Turn your phone to silent on the lock screen (or use the rocker to go to no sound), then go into your native alarm app and uncheck "Alarm in silent mode."
There ya go. Turn down your phones volume and you have no camera sounds. easy easy
Just remember to turn the sound back on or your alarm will not Alarm
That doesn't sound like a solution. Having to modify your sound settings everytime you want to take a picture, then again when you want an alarm to go off? I would rather someone tell me what program I can use to find the sound file and modify it.

To delete/rename the file, you'll want to use Root Explorer. This requires you be rooted, which I'm just guessing from the nature of your posts you're not (since Root Explorer is often one of the first apps someone gets when rooting).
It is rooted, I'm still figuring out what put on there as far as apps go. Looks like it's about $4.
I found a great solution. It's called SilentSnap. It disables all sound from the system when it opens it. It uses your normal camera and disables the shutter sound. Its free.

No SMS notification sound

Hi everyone I asked this in the TMO help section but havent gotten anything useful so hopefully someone here can help..
My sms notification sound isnt playing for some reason, I've done a hard reset and restarted the phone...The notification sounds work for everything else just not SMS. I am using the default sms app and have gone into the SMS menu to make sure notification sound was checked.
Any one have any ideas? I really not want to factory reset if possible.
Did you double check that there was a notification sound picked and not silent.
The same with my S IV... no SMS notification sound at all...
I have solved the problem with a FR...

I had the same issue and found out that blocking mode was causing it. Blocks SMS sound even for allowed contacts. Disabled blocking mode or uncheck disable notifications and SMS sound came back.

Ended up just doing an exchange works now
I have the same problem on mine, but it's only when I change the sound profile automatically using either an NFC tag & NFC Task Launcher, or when I use a profile scheduler.
When I change it manually it's not a problem.
Been driving me around the bend.
SMS sound
Hi, newbie here,
I have tried a number of profile changers with the GS4 ,currently Automatit.
All produce the same result, reboot phone, sms sounds work ok, once the profile has been changed, no sms sound unless you reboot.
Not come across this before with any android phone (Last phone HTC one X)
I guess it is a bug, hopefully there will be a fix before long?
Regards Shanks
I'm also having this problem, but what I notice is, if you disable the vibrate when ringing (no tick) under ringtones, the SMS sound notification works.
If you enable vibrate when ringing (with tick), there is no sound only vibration for SMS.
Can you guys try it whether this is the same as mine?
found this on another forum.
It definitely works for me UK Samsung Galaxy S4 on Orange
If you have a profiling app like timeriffic or llama etc it stops the sounds on your sms (even when its not meant to). I uninstalled timeriffic and it works perfectly now
Yes, working again

Definitely a bug,I have tried a number of profile changers on the GS4 and my HTC one X and the bug is only there in the S4.
Probably a conflict with Samsung Touch Wiz?
Hopefully there will be a fix soon as this is a basic problem.
Uninstall any profile manager restore back the tone
Not until I unwilling to remove my favorite app Phone Weaver, the sms tone come back again.
Samsung bug here
I have a S4 and I have the same issue on the SMS notification sound, when using profile apps like llama
So 2 solutions :
- install GO SMS like apps
- or change the profile using the power button... (not sure that a reboot need to be performed).
I hope that Samsung will fix that soon...
It's fixed

[Q] Is there a way to add ringtone feature for the N7 wifi?

Hello again everyone. As some of you might know, I have finally gotten my Nexus 7 to work with the gmate+ device. For those who have no idea what this is or what I'm talking about, gmate is a device that gives iOS/Android devices GSM functions (call/text, etc.) via bluetooth. Of course there is an app to be installed to the device to pair it and use the features. Unfortunately, the application for Android does not have the option to change ringtone and Nexus 7 does not have native settings for ringtone. So now, for SMS notifications, N7 will play notifications alert tone but when somebody is calling, no alert tone whatsoever. I have tried several ringtone apps but none worked so far. Any ideas how to solve this? Thanks and more power!
Anybody with any idea here?

You can use Zedge to set default and contact ringtones. It says it's set when I try it, but I cannot test for a call.
All I can say is that it doesn't change the ringtone for the Android Device Manager remote ring.

Not sure if I understand what you're asking but I have a default ringtone which is "over the horizon" and this is not ascending by default. I can go into my settings and select increased ringtone if my device is in my pocket and notice the ringtone does gradually increase if the device is in my pocket or gym bag.
Hope this helps!

Well, with the increased ringtone option selected or not, the ringtone starts at a very low volume and then it comes normal, and there is no option about it... Or is it??

This is default behaviour of samsung ROMs. If you want to disable ascending ringtone you'll have to root and use xposed module/ wanam xposed.

Ah, I understand now! The behavior you are experiencing is default in nature for your ringtone. You can use my suggestion to help increase the ringtone if the device is in your pocket or gym bag but it will start out low and gradually progress. Try to find a new ringtone or install a ringtone which is better and set this as your default ringtone.
If you like the one you have and just wish for it to be louder, you can customize through a root but if you do not wish to do this, check out the following app. I have used this on other devices so am not sure if it's compatible with the SG-N3:

which option from wanam deals with increasing ringer?
edit: found it lol - cheers!!
try this app "HandyPhone" in Google Play store, its better than the app "Disable Increasing Ring"
Open into HandyPhone, then enable ascending ring, set the initial ringing level to "maximum".

[?]Disable Incremental Ringtone?

Does anyone know how to disable the increasing ringtone WITHOUT using xposed?
Thanks!
My phone doesn't have an option for incremental ringtone? The ringtone is always at a set level. I do however see an option for when it's in my pocket to get louder?
Are you sure it's not just the way the ringtone was recorded?

I'm having the same issue. I can confirm that it's not because of the ringtone I'm using. Fella from work has the note 3 and it did the same thing. Would love to figure out how to disable this

No it's not the ringtone. I made it myself. The first second is quiet then it goes to regular volume. I don't want to use Wanam because you can't play Square Enix games with Xposed installed. My current work around is an app on the play store called "Disable Increasing Ring" and then I go to App Manager and uncheck Show Notifications. This works fine. I just hate using an app for something that should have a toggle by default.
Thanks Guys!
