corrupted nandroid backup - Hero CDMA General

Ok, I found my self in one heck of a pickle some how I managed to simi brick my phone loading the vanilla lock screen, i could not load the nandroid backup of the rom i did before flashing the update, I could not wipe and reflash a fresh rom my phone would just get stuck in a boot loop much fun. I did find my first nandroid backup i did when i rooted it and was able to load that and get out of the boot loop.
I then reflashed DC2.07.2 and got that up and working then made a new nandroid. I then tried to load the backup i did before flashing vanilla and got stuck in the boot loop again (grrr) I tried other backups i had made and used and they all got stuck in that loop
SO I have lost all my data that i thought i had backup (should have backed up the backup lol)
And to the real reason for post
So i had notes in there that i and was wondering well really hoping that there is some way to fix a corrupted backup and get it working again so i can get all my notes?

[Q] I can't restore my cwm backup, what should I do? [urgent, please help]

Hi,
I had a problem with my NDT miui nand buil recently, it was sticking on boot animation, so I made a backup via cwm, I saved the backup folder on my pc. Now I want to restore that backup. I tried all the usual methods for it, I did tas29, flashed new clk, and tried backup, still stuck on boot animation, I flashed my last rom and then tried to restore the backup, again stuck on boot animation. I did everything for it, but doesn't works for me. It does the restore process as usual, but I wan't to boot, my phone stuck in boot animation. So I beg you to help me with one of these alternatives, please.
-I only want to restore my contacts, call logs and sms. Anyway to restore them only? there are some .img files in backup folder, which one are these files stored?
-Is there anyway I can extract backups files on my pc and get my contacts,sms,... in it?
-If none of above works, is there anyway to install cwm on pc android emulator, and then restore my backup in it, and again get my contacts, sms there?
I will really be thankful of your helps

Are you using the correct partition size? Too small a partition normally causes the phone to hang at the bootanimation. If you have used the correct partition size and it still doesn't boot, try simply increasing it to account for any bad blocks you may have.
It's also possible that your backup is corrupted somehow, it happened to me once. If this is the case, try flashing the same ROM and then restoring the data partition in CWM.
When you rename backup file do not use spaces (exp. icsromv3)

I don't think that's the problem because if the ROM gets up to the bootanimation (after a Task29) then it's clearly been [somewhat] flashed correctly so it's probably down to the backup itself, or of course an error somewhere on his part.

Come on guys, this is common sense. If he made the backup with the rom ALREADY not booting up, no matter what he does, it'll always stick to the boot animation.
The back-up saves your ROM at its current state, not the one it was working at before. Backups should only be done when your ROM is actually fully functioning, not when it is broken. So unfortunately, you have to do what Nigel Suggested. Make a clean install of that ROM and then only restore the data partition.
You may be able to do the emulator thingy, but I'm not sure, you can give it a shot though.
For extracting something from your backup see appextractor or nandroid browser

Whoops, I should have read the OP more carefully
@OP Yeah, just fresh install then restore the data partition. I still don't understand why the other ROM isn't working though unless it's your fault somwhere

[Q] Restoring backup

Hello, I did a backup of all my apps+data and now I'm trying to restore it but it gets stuck at the "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox". Does anyone have a guess of what's going on?
Ps: I'm still trying to run it but it's like more than 10 minutes that way
Edit: the toolkit said the process was completed, but not all my apps are there.

restore your nandroid backup the right way, not through a root toolbox. restore it in/with your custom recovery.
you dont backup usual apps in system partition as it will hang or reboot, just backup user data, and use CWM

Restore /data from prior backup?

I was running teamub 1/11 and today a update rolled out (1/19) that multiple users have confirmed is causing a boot loop. I tried dirty flashing back to 1/11 but got weird issues. Either boot loop, or OS would boot but would just be a black screen with my time/bars/etc but nothing else. System wipe clean flash to 1/11 got the phone up and working but super bummed about the lost data.
I backed the data up from the phone, and was wondering if it would be possible to restore that data over my current install?
any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Stuck at boot screen after restoring ány Nandroid backup.

Hey,
I've had this problem for ages now, and always gave up on my data, but now I really want to fix this for good.
Yesterday I was ready to update my CM12 nightly to the lastest version (didn't see it was actually CM13), and did a backup in cwm before the update. The backup succeeded, but it gave the message that .android_secure couldn't be found and it didn't back that up. It always gives me this message after a backup and after google searching, it seems to me that it doesn't matter.
After installing the update, I noticed it was CM13, and my gapps wasn't updated to the marshmellow stock, as expected, so errors occured all the time.
I didn't want to upgrade to CM13 just yet, so I decided to restore my backup.
As always, the restore process goes without errors, but upon reboot I'm stuck at the CM logo. I can wait untill the battery is dead or ignites from the heat, but nothing happens. This has also happened to me every time I make a backup. I've watched about every video on youtube on how to do a proper backup and how to restore one, so I'm confident that I did it right.
For some reason, any backup I make, no matter what android version (didn't work with stock kitkat, either, before I switched to CM12) it never works and I'm forced to do a clean install and start over again.
I've tried to do partial restores from the backup file, and if I only restore the data partition (and wipe dalvik) It does boot, but gives me non stop errors that apps are crashing.
I've tried to do a dirty flash to no avail, always endless error messages.
When I do a clean install and check the MK5 of the backup with nandroid manager it gives no errors.
Is there anything wrong with my phone or something? I'm not making backups to be unable to restore them.
Can anyone help me out with this?
(I have a i9505)
Try a different recovery. CWM is outdated. TWRP is nice. Worked for ne every time. There are TWRP flashable zips so you won't have to mess around with Odin.

Won't changing recovery make my old backups useless? I'm all for changing to TWRP, but first I'd love to restore my CWM backup...
Yes it will. Unfortunately I don't know what to suggest. Haven't used CWM since I switched to the S4.

Nandroid Backup Fails with extractTarFork() error

Long story short, I tried to install MultiROM on my Nexus 6P, and it failed. So I tried to restore my backup using TWRP 3.0.2.0, and it keeps failing at exactly 7800MB with the error E:extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255. I have seen posts talking about checking the log when this happens, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that.
What exactly do I need to do to restore my backup?
I guess I should add some detail. I first tried booting to recovery and restoring the backup. The phone rebooted into a boot loop part of the way through the restore process every time I tried that. Then, I tried flashing the phone completely back to the stock image, and then restoring. I got the error 255 above. Then, I tried flashing back to stock completely, wiping Dalvik/cache, and restoring the backup. I still get the same error message. I tried restoring everything except userdata, and the phone reboots part of the way through the restore.
I could easily reroot, reinstall Xposed, and reflash TWRP if for some reason my system backup partition is corrupted. However, I don't want to lose my data partition at all. That was the whole reason I made the backup in the first place.
