Baseband 1.0.16 is available usually for X10 released by the mobile phone network (eg. Vodafone), the changes are network specific and there's nothing worth to note from the update. You can pretty much say 1.0.16 = 1.0.14.
A number of 1.0.14 vs 1.0.16 discussion if you have done a little bit of research.

Well a lot of users report better key entry and battery life. wouldnt hurt if i could get those two.
Yes, I noticed about bettery key entry, but you're better off using HTC's keyboard anyway. I felt much better after installing and using HTC's keyboard.
And regarding battery, the 1.0.16 doesn't make a difference. Just use your X10 until it runs out of juice and switches off by itself then recharge to 100%, repeat several times. Also switch off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Background Data, Location Services, 3G Data.
THAT'S how you get better battery life. I'm on 1.0.14, cannot upgrade to 1.0.16, didn't bother me. And I can get 4 days of battery life with low usage, and 2 days of battery life with moderate usage.
If there's a way for everyone to upgrade to 1.0.16, it would have been sticky'd.
Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657265 plenty of tips there.

Debrand the phone and it'll be on 1.0.16. See the post on debranding or google aroud to look for the files and the procedure. Even if your phone is sim free, the procedure described for debranding may do the upgrade.

I'm kinda curious about this. I'm so astounded by how much it's changed that I feel kinda obligated to post...
Some background:
I have an Xperia X10 from o2 UK and my battery life was /diabolical/
I would unplug the charger at 7:30am, and head off to work.. I have gmail and an exchange server (I hate moxier!) on PUSH mode.. battery life?... by 3:30-4pm at the latest my battery is at 10% warning!
Incidentally I don't have any aftermarket battery.. just the stock one.
Changes:
I ran the root.. so now I have a rooted R2BA023 install.. then I got set cpu and enabled a profile for screen off which locked the max CPU at 384mhz and min at 256mhz.
New batterylife? I dunno, I'm still counting.. 57 hours since last connect and 22% battery remain.
My actual question:
Anyone else done things to their X10, and what battery life are you seeing as a result?
Greetings friend,
To be honest i found out from my testings that firmware .20 with set cpu on auto had the best possible results till now for me.
Now i am on .23 firmware and testing it . i am having a full charge now and i will revert with my comments.
But the results you posted are amazing. Could you please give me your activity ? Calls - sms - wifi etc
Your post:
New battery life? I dunno, I'm still counting.. 57 hours since last connect and 22% battery remain.
Please keep as posted.
Thanks and regards

battery has improved a lot(dint root my phone)..its been 5 hours since i updated my phone at dat time it was 64% n after 5 hours i see my battery reduced to 59%% dats awesome
20min of wifi use(timesscape update,installing app from market,facebook)..7 calls(max 12min of talk)..11 messages n 15 min of asphalt 5..loving da new update thx SE
Baseband: 1.1.27
Build No: R2BA023
Yeah people are seeing about 48 hours average standby with the newest firmware (I might note that before debranding the newest my phone would update to was R1BA016! What the hell are o2 UK doing?) however mine is now at like 60 hours and still counting. Getting close to the threshold at 20% battery remaining but still.. more than acceptable now.
Usage:
Little bit of music playback, about 30 minutes..
bunch of missed calls
constant push emails (my exchange account is pretty busy, it'll see dozens of mails per working day), several of which I reply to...
about 30 minutes of talk time
alarm clock every morning
few apps from the marketplace downloaded/installed
few minutes of webbrowsing
about 10-12 photos.
roughly 10 minutes of video recorded.
setcpu will help out your battery, but the r2 firmware greatly improves on the r1 firmware in terms of battery life. i am not rooted and if i leave my phone unplugged and with wifi off the battery life barely changes at all while sitting at idle.
did you have the r2 firmware before rooting? i bet most of the improvement is coming from the updated firmware
I fully charged my mobile and after 5 minutes i lost 5% of battery i dont know why but firmware . 23 seemz thats not working for me , i will keep it for a bit but already thinking to go on . 20 again. I domt know if i am doing something wrong.

Wow!!!! Battery life absolutely sucks.
I have a Rogers X10. I just picked it up yesterday, so I have done nothing to it yet. It is now almost 5:00 PM where I am and it is dead. I have not even made a call on it. I have not turned on Wifi. I have not turned on Bluetooth. The display is set at about 50% Email is not set to poll. I have surfed a bit. I have sent and received a couple of texts, and downloaded a couple of apps. Otherwise I have just explorered the phone a bit....not a lot.
I'm returning it tomorrow unless you guys have some great ideas. I'm a bit hesitant to root it and flash a ROM of any kind because of the fact that I may return it. I will gladly root, annd flash if I'm confident I can improve the battery life.....and not underclock the processor to any great extent.

What is the firmware on? If it's on R1FA014 then update it ASAP you'll get about twice the amount of battery life you currently get.

most people found that it takes about a week for the battery to be going at full capacity
and then the r2b...20 update pretty much double my battery again
with everything except gps/bt on i easily get over a day and a half , thats 3g , push email , auto screen brightness , wifi on when the screens on
your most likely using the old firmware which has issues where it uses a lot of power when on standby. with the latest official SE update my phone maybe a 1% per hour when on standby. im very impressed
i dont use anything that needs root to achieve this.
oh and if your worried about warranty then you should still have a warrant with SE if you debrand and use there own updates from SEUS . i did this myself (debranded from uk vodafone) and when i broke my usb port they swapped my phone no problems
thanks guys. I have no idea what firmware is on it. I'll check when I get home and plug it in. Do you have a link to Se's latest firmware, or to debrand it?
Dave
you don't need a link.. go into settings, about phone, software update.. update now...
or it's it's not available over the air then you should try downloading SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Software).. and follow the on screen instructions.. sometimes the update come out on one of those before the other.. also bear in mind that the new firmware hasn't completed it's rollout yet so may not be available for your region or brand yet..
Check out the other thread that lornova started which shows where, and which brands the update has reached so far.
How do I find which software version I have? I'm on Orange UK and have done run an over-air update (which did provide me with some update) but my battery life is still poor - unplugged at 10am today and it died at about 11pm.
I don;t mind de-branding or rooting my phone if that's what I need to fix the battery life. How do I go about this?
Will rooting also effectively de-brand my phone? It is difficult to see any Orange branding anyway! Would this help battery life? What other benefits does rooting have?
Sorry, I'm a bit of an Android novice (almost 18 months on WinMo 6.1!)

first thing you should do is plug into seus and update to the r2 firmware, next thing you can try is to download a home screen replacement launcher from the market as I have read that this also helps to improve battery life. I use adw.launcher, it is free and works great.
I have owned the milestone, HTC magic, nexus 1 and the x10a and all of them needed several battery cycles to break in the battery
The R2Bxxx update has changed the phone a lot in terms of performance. Im quite happy with my x10 now and I wouldnt bother rooting it. My 2cents..

Im currently using the 023 firmware and also setcup with lots of different profiles. And surely, its helping my battery to last long
I'm losing like 12% or so/hr when using 3g/wifi.. I just don't get why its draining it so bad!! hopefully someone has a really good answer??
R2ba020 rooted, same was happening with r2ba023 root an all!
please try avoid simple answers like task killer stuff, startup, etc.. I'm pretty used to all them now hence y I'm looking for a really good solution?
everything else is usually working pretty well..

I'm on BB 58 and Wolf Break ROM V5. I don't see any battery drain. I'm getting 1.5 days with moderate usage. I used to get 1 day with stock 2.1 SE ROM. So I feel the battery life has improved for me. I didn't install any themes. But again battery drain is upon the usage of the device, I use lot of Edge though for surfing.

Running baseband .58 with wolf's v05 and use WiFi continuously and still go a day. Take the plunge, if you don't like it can always go back...
BTW:- Country of residence most probably does not have anything to do with it...
I got BB .58 now running for almost 24 hours on my x10! It's really amazing! My battery life has doubled.
I have BB58 ever since it released and have used it with wolfbreak's rom. Battery drains according to usage. I dont see any difference at all.
One question though, Why should an indian confirm? why not others? You think the radio signals in India are thicker than the other countries because of which the battery drains ? I can understand that the operator or country plays important role, but not on the battery drain. Or you think its because of our politicians?

Yeah the radio signals.I dont know why but my battery gets heated up with bb58on charging.I have At&t x10 and currently running bb54 wolf rom
Do you think the radio part in last OTA 2.3.3 consumes more battery?
I see the battery information consumption much higher in "Phone".
Confirms it for me?
PS. this morning, after 5 hours and 35 minutes battery down to 90%

Well, I'm using ARHD 5.1.3 (based on the official HTC's GB ROM) with radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 and can say that battery consumtion is siginificantly better than with the Froyo. It's normal when you have less consumption from the phone as a whole to have a higher percentage on the parts that require the same amount of energy. In fact you can optimize the radio software only to a certain amount - it still has to emmit energy as specified by the standards (GSM, UMTS, WiFi) and it still has the same losses in the receivers' amplifiers.
Ok, you are right, but if i compare the battery drain in this rom, i can say that is faster then stock froyo 2.2.1 imho...
I'm so happy someone else noticed it too! I'm having bad battery issues with this update. Took it from charger this morning and currently having 42%. I've done nothing fancy, installed few programs and browsed web. The percentage is going down like crazy
Not a lot of good to you, but I recently switched to LeeDroid's custom Kernel, the difference is night and day. Worth a look.
i see a problem too with my battery after update. i dont know what is the cause. if u find it pls tell here.thk

completely agree with this. just amazing!
I noticed something strange with the signal levels when using GSM/WCDMA Auto-mode. While on 3G it only had like 1 bar and went straight to GPRS, then suddenly lost GPRS-signal to 0 bars and phone changed it to full 3G mode. It bounced like crazy. I forced it to GSM-mode and surprise, my battery life tripled.
I made a hard reset last night and let my battery die two times, lets see how it goes.

Yes you will get much better battery life as the constant trying to locate best signal in WCDMA preferred mode is a big battery drain. Downside is you reduce data speeds.
I wasn't sure if your surprise was genuine or in mock obviousness so have tried to word this carefully.

the reason while in gsm mode you had a longer lasting battery is because 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) Takes a lot less power than umts/hspa/hspa+ to function; this is regardless of what device from whichever vendor/manufacturer you're using.
if you're still having issues, use the fast wipe rom to completely wipe your phone, then run the RUU (root it with gingerbreak)

It was genuine cos I didn't have same amount of battery drain with Froyo. I always use it in Auto-mode, and with Gingerbread it's awful. I should have mention this in my post, sorry. But the point is, the signal levels went crazy and battery went down. Froyo was almost perfect what comes to this. My battery last 9 hours yesterday, where Froyo 1½ days.
Maybe I should navigate myself to the dev-section and see other solutions.
For some alien reason after upgrading to 2.3.3 , my battery is doubled, if not tripled. Maybe im just lucky that the new radio comes with the update is more suitable with my carrier in my country. I'm now on 3G, autosync , 23 hours after charge and still at 53% , medium use with calling, sms , taking photos and capturing some videos. Before the update my battery dies after like 5-6 hours with 3G and auto sync on. I'm a happy man right now
Ehi guys do you made a factory reset after ota?
I cant see better battery life after two days....
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Update to my issue. Seems that hard reset did the magic. I now have 81% of battery, took this off the charger 9 oclock this morning. It's still on Auto-mode like it should be. Maybe it was a cell tower fault or a battery calibration problem.

also having problems after the update: the situation is this - if I keep wifi on and do not touch the phone, after ~8 hours (during night) I have only 66% battery left and battery use stats says that "Dialer" ate most of the battery. Did not notice this before in batt stats
I did a factory reset on my dhd after ota and also format the sd card, because i had always "Telephone" (dialer) voice on battery stats with high % of usage.
Btw, when my dhd was inactive on desk for 5 6 hours, with froyo 2.2.1 (1.72) the voices in battery stats were phone inactive, standy by ecc ecc, now before the format, the first voice was always "Telephone".
Now i wait for next recharge.

Hi guys i know there are lots of similar posts about battery life etc but cant find the answer im looking for after a search of this forum as all answers seem to be on rooted devices, she does not want her x8 rooted and im really getting it in the neck for upgrading her in the first place lol.
My girlfriend recently got the 2.1-update 1 via pc companion and thats when the battery problems started. The battery drain problem has actually been getting progressively worse since this. This morning (after yet another full night charging 100%) after 30 mins of getting up today the battery was down to 83 %. I have already uninstalled maps updates, not that she ever used it anyway.
So my question is : is there a solution to this without rooting and/or having a custom ROM? becuase she making my life a misery lol.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the similar post

Well, 1st thing as Dx said. reboot after using wifi, 3g, music. reboot to make everything fresh.. but there's no other way to save battery without rooting I think. because I helped my gf installed a custom ROM for her and she said that the battery life changed, and it's way different than a original ROM. How come she doesn't wanna go custom? Sorry for my bad english.

Nah, rooting makes the difference. IMO Froyo ROMs have good battery life.
Well i think she might well have to go custom because the battery life is a joke now, nearly rendering her device unusable, think she just frightened cos i did her pc companion update and kinda blames me for the crap battery now, il have a read around the x8 forum on how to root.
Thanks everyone, apreciate it
Just try to keep off all things you don't need: Wifi, Bluetooth, Synchronization, 3G. also unninstall apps you don't need and do not use app killers to save RAM.
I think that is all you can do without rooting.

My friend, less RAM is actually a good thing. I've read through the web. just don't auto kill ALL the apps, kill those apps that when it doesn't look right or freezes. The more RAM you freed, the more battery it will drain. Serious.

I'm just a noob trying to help.
use a task killer and disable all what you don't need like bluetooth, data traffic, gps and wifi. yes i know my english is bad^^
disable wifi, gps, bluetooth and data traffic. stock 2.1update rom should get you about 3 days with those disabled. any apps that need them will ask you to switch them on again anyway. It's a little annoying to get used to at first especially when you're used to a fone that lasts a week without charge so I can understand how she feels especially if she only wants to text and do a few calls.
If you don't use wifi, 3g gps and rest of the s**t you should probbably buy a dumy phone.
With some "normal" usage you can be happy if it lasts for a day/day and a half.
2-3 is really success.
You do get a charger in the box with the phone you know?
Use your phone, stop wasting time on battery monitoring.

yeah but the idea is it's a MOBILE fone.. You dont want it plugged into the damn socket all the time!
If you need to use the GPS, WIFI etc. the app will ask you to switch it on so wheres the harm in turning it all off until it's required if it saves having to plug the thing in every day?!?
Nobody stated you should keep all the functions on.
But it should be understandable that, with some "normal" use, and by normal I mean regular texting, phonecalls, check facebook/twitter, refresh weather app, read mail and some news maybe you can't expect your battery to last 7 days like on dummy nokia.
Besides, you all forget that your biggest battery killer is the screen.
And another thing I noticed; when LED starts to glow green, your battery isn't fully charged. Check phone status. It becomes green after passing 90% I think, or so.
And the second thing I noticed is a HUGE differenc when charging the phone while it's on, for a hour and a half when the battery metter reaches 100% and when I turn it off and leave it charging over night.
The "night" option proved to be a lot better (battery lasts longer, doesn't fall so fast) + Every once in a while it is good to fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it.

Yeah, but that mobile phones have long since ceased to be just phones.
Switch off everything you can : wifi, brighteness, gps etc. Also you can make a profile "screen off " in setcpu and set it to 122mhz . it will save you a lot of battery! It drains just 1% after 5 hours ( but i didnt use my phone) . Hope it help.
Oh yeah and use the app called " fast reboot " it is so good is well and it speed up our lovely x8
When i used these things , my phone lasts in a week or more of.course i nearly didnt use my phone.

Seeing as I don't have enough posts to post over in the development forum, I thought I'd hijack this thread.
I installed this rom last week and at first, the batter was brilliant. It lasted for three days but now I have to charge it twice a day. I have bluetooth off, wifi off more often than not, brightness down very low.
The phone was 5hrs on battery and was down to 44%.
Cell Standby: 35%
Display: 20%
Phone Idle: 19%
Launcher Pro: 13%
Anyone have any ideas?
I also experienced the same problem ... especially with the overclocked conditions
There are a number of battery draining threads but they all seem to be much older than this one which relates to an October software update.
The battery has already been pretty good and generally lasts a day but since this update it is virtually shot by about 2 in the afternoon even with little or no use.
Google searches seem to indicate an Oculus or Gear issue but as far as I am aware I have neither on my phone which is used for business not gaming.
I have now hibernated most of the apps and restarted a number of times but nothing makes any difference and means I now have to carry a large battery back with me.
Is this a problem relating to perhaps an app on my phone or are others having this issue.
It is an O2 phone using official Samsung software updates running 6.0.1
Thanks

I've managed to reduce battery consumption & laggyness simply by flashing firmware via S Switch. hope you can do that too.
