Hi there,
first of all.. Yes I have used the search funtion but have not found the answer for me.
I would like to change the SMS settings. At the last Energy Rom on Xperia I had my SMSs displayed like an Email Account in the normal Email thingy that comes with windows mobile.
Background is that I want to dissable the Email and the Messaging Tab in Manila. I would like to launch the Email program that comes with WM. In there I should get an overview of all my email accounts and SMS/MMS.
Does anyone know where I can chnage this?
Thanks in advance!

Nice one. Thank You!
Hi, since upgrading my Xperia to 2.1 I've notice something really annoying and all I want is for it to STOP!!!
Has anyone noticed whenever they sign into their google/twitter/faceache account the mobile's automatically sync's it's contacts? However instead of updating the outdated information with recent edits (either online or on the handset) it adds to it!! Often leaving a single entry with multiple parts (if you get what I mean) and multiple copies of the same address, number, email and notes in a single contact.
Does anyone here a solution to this?
I just want it to bleedin' STOP!!!
It's sooooo damn bloody annoying!!
I like the mobile contact list to remain the same, unaltered by it's software sync utility yet I like my emails to be pushed... So far, I've played with the phone till i'm completely stressed, only to achieve nothing!
STOP SYNCING my contacts!!!!
ALSO...
Where's the option to have assign different colour flashing LED status, for various types of notifications?
i.e.
Green - missed call
Blue - new sms
Orange - new email... etc...
Did you try going to the "Sync Settings" and turning off Sync? Menu button on the contacts list, go to "Account & Sync Settings" and uncheck "Sync Contacts" ?
when opening facebook on the settings you can disable the updates

I use Blink, its free in the market and works fine
I have discovered a big flaw today in my samsung tablet, running JM2 Froyo 2.2!
I received a SMS, my device was LOCKED (for privacy). But when the SMS arrived the device turned on, and, even if still LOCKED, it showed the content of SMS...this is not acceptable to me.
Is there a workaround? An additional settings?
I use the default Messanging.
2.
If of any help, I can unistall the default tool (messaging) and install Handcent SMS, but will this fix my issue? Again, I wish that NO SMS appear on display if in LOCKED mode (password protected mode)
Thanks
Saulo
If any of you can suggest a SMS application which fix this issue, I will appreciate to hear!
have a good time

There is an option in the setting for notification (Messaging -> Menu -> Setting). Have you try that option?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Dear Heru
I am checking...
I have only 3 settings enabled (NOT greyed):
1. delete old messages
2. auto-retrieve
3. Notifications (display message notification in status bar)
This 3rd one is NOT the culprit, since what it does is to display an icon in the top bar.
I have disabled it, but still I receive SMS full text (clearly visible by everyone) even in "locked passport-protected" mode.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

If you install Handcent (maybe ChompSMS or others do it too), you can disable the popups altogether (locked or not). Both are free on the Market. Handcent also lets you set a security pattern to open texts (again regardless of whether the phone is locked) that also applies when you try to get to them via the stock Messaging app.
I have no idea for Chomp, but for Handcent, the setting is under Settings -> Notification Settings. There you can clear the checkbox if you never want the popups (only notification bar will be set off), and if you leave it enabled you have a subscreen for settings that will let you say whether you want it to turn on the screen, dim it, enable privacy mode (means you need to do the unlock pattern before any message details are shown in notifications), and a bunch of other customizations, including the "Show When Locked" which you can clear meaning that if you have any popups after all the other settings, it will remain "hidden" until you unlock the phone.
There have been aggravating issues in the past with sending MMS image files, but lately, I've had none, and am pleased overall with Hancent which is a pretty big upgrade over the default app.
Good luck.
Thanks a lot dear Buglessfan!
I will definetely use handcent SMS
Questions:
1. Do I need to unistall the stock messaging application?
2.if so, do you recommend to me use Titanium Backup Pro (which I have)?
It has a funzion called freeze, which i think is something like unistall but with the option of reversing it
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
I *think* it still needs the stock app to exist in the background, but they have a web site with their own forums and support, so I'm sure you can find out there. IIRC it's bbs.handcent.com or the like. If you have Titanium backup you could freeze it to try, or just uninstall it (after backing it up first). The cool thing is if you have both installed it still provides whatever added security you enable, the stock app isn't a back door.
I have used Handcent exclusively for quite awhile. You cannot uninstall the native messaging ap. (or at least you dont need to).
You can create a security lock specifically for Handcent and apply it to both Handcent and the native ap.
Then cancel the retrieval and notifications for the native ap. and all you will get are the Handcent notifications. If the tab is locked, you will get the notification sound, and the icon in the task bar and nothing else. Then unlock the device, and then unlock Handcent and read the message.
In my opinion, its a very secure way to receive SMS.
Thanks to both of you.
Dear Carlsbad: I have followed your instructions and now hadcent behaves exactly as I wished: no pop-ups are shown when a new SMS arrives.
I wonder if I can also disable the sound (triggered when a SMS arrives): the setting for disabling sound are in handcent? Or in the phone provider settings?
Thanks a lot!
Saulo
By the way: are you in Carlsbad in Orange County (close to San Diego)? I was there in 2007...very wonderful location!
If you just disable all notification in the stock messenging app, then, yes only the settings for Handcent matter, and the settings there are pretty rich, including custom sound, no sound, no vibration, particular vibration patterns, no led, custom LED color, et cetera.

Samsung, should have thought about this before offering always on display. I mean, we check for what is sent and if I have to always touch my device for every notification then, what is the purpose? A clock?
Disa wants me to remove the Whatsapp app! Of cause I am not willing to do that, for It might remove the conversations.
So, I could not test it.
It will show AOD notifications only if also used for SMS?
Yes.
What is the extent of the notification ? Only a symbol or some text?

You can backup all your convo's in whatsapp also so its a easy restore if you want to install it again.

screenshot please
sorry, it doesn't work. I configured facebook and whats up, but when I received new messages nothing had shown on AOD
Hey,
I recently updated my Mate 8 to Android 7.
Ever since, I have been receiving Birthday notifications from the Contacts app. These notifications are 1 week early (fine), but I do not see any settings for a way to change or disable these notifications.
I'm hesitant to disable notifications for the Contacts app (through system > app settings), as I'm not sure what effect this will have on missed call notifications, etc.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue, and if anyone knows a solution.
Thanks for any help.
An interesting question!
But I think you should not disable notifications for the Contacts app while you may disable notification for the Calendar app if you don't want to get birthday notification.
As we know, in fact, birthday notification is a Calendar event. You may go to Calendar app, and view the date for birthday of some your contact. There should be an event for the birthday. Is there an event?
Hi James,
Thanks a lot for the reply. I thought it was interesting that the notification came from the Contacts app as well.
I believe the notification is only for contacts that I have assigned birthdays to.
I use DigiCal, and the notification was not from DigiCal. I have now disabled the Calendar app, so I'll see tomorrow if I still get the unusual notifications.
Thanks again.
Hi. Any success with this? I'm having the same issue. Would like to change the notifications to the day of the birthday, but can't find where to do this.
Same Issue
Hello all i am having the same issue with my huawei nova 3i calendar. any solution to this?
Hi folk!!
Same here!! Huawei Mate 20 X.
Any idea?
No notification settings for it into calendar neither contacts
Had another notification the other day.. If I ever found a solution, I can't remember what it was.
Sorry everyone
Sorry for opening this old thread, but I updated my p20 with emui 10, and I'm receiving this birthday reminders 1 week early! I really want to disable this but I look around settings and nothing.
Anyone found the solution?
Thanks for your help
