Broadcom chip

has any heared about the Broadcom chip which exists in the google nexus one which has wifi n and fm transimetter does this chip exists in our hd 2 so that it could be the reason that our hd2 supports wifi n or not see the link

Interesting question... I think the HD2 has been taken apart before and there was no mention of this... FM transmitter would be AWESOME!

If the HD2 also uses the BCM4329EKUBG then this could possibly be enabled, although it would also require a suitable antenna to be connected for FM transmission.
Is there a list of hardware components available anywhere?

I think if the availability of such a chip would be true, then flywhc had almost known of this and maybe a way would've been found using the FM transmitter in order to receive TMC signal then.

Btw: I'd like to see high quality closeup's of the mainboard in this device. Are there any better closeup high quality pictures around?

Is there anything to make this possible on this beautiful device? I am in fear from buying it because of battery so i wonder will you guys one day could make that better with your roms? My first choice was omnia 2 ,although it has nice battery life it cant really compare with this beast. Too bad they didnt put tv - out. That could be great with all emulators out there. Please help me guys in buying.

I bought this and it does the job well by BlueTooth. Also acts as a speaker phone.

In my opinion our HD2 is the best until now, it would've been the most perfect unbeatable device if it had....
- 2ry camera (front) with video calling

- more mAh battery
i would never ever thought of changing the phone as long as it's alive and kicking!!

All greetings I too so thought earlier but on our sites in Russia too walks информациция apropos fm the transmitter so I think soon it will appear.

actually the BCM4329 does have FM tx. It's more a matter of no software being available to take advantage of the hardware the device has. Than again, they got the rx working under android (and I think I heard somewhere that the n wireless band was working on some builds, so ya never know. It would be a sweat feature.

any news?It s really nice to unlock features that are there but was disabled by manufactures... 720p recording,fm tx,wifi n,and i ve readed something about the camera from 5mpx to something like 8mpx ( at least limited in quality to 5mpx)

HD2 FM radio is super crappy!

I cannot pick up even ONE station in my location by scanning, or manual input. Just static. Is it really that bad?
My previous Symbian phone's FM radio pulled in at least 14 stations automatically.
Is it that bad, or am I doing something wrong?
Using stock headset, btw.

I just tryed the fm radio for the first time, i live in a area with bad reception and i get 4 stations with my hd2, the same as I get in my VW T5. So it works ok for me.

as standard it doesn't pick up many for me and if I stand too far away from the windows I lose half of them. verdict 3/10
with the de emphasis tweak in bsb tweaks I get a little better.maybe 5/10

Compared to my old HD, my HD2 FM receiver performance is also really bad. I can listen to only a few stations with HD2 where I was easily having more than 20 with the HD. Any improvement suggestion is more than welcome.

i get the same number (13) in the same place inside house. bsb tweak on. hd2 earphones. reception quality is actually better than my hd (less static noise - cleaner sound).
edit: changing stations over earphone's remote is much better than actual buttons in the radio app. there is no clicking noise that way! try it.

There must be something wrong that is more general than just living in an area with weak fm radio coverage. I used an FM transmitter together with my mp3 player to transmit some music to my HD2 and it wasn't able to pickup even a little bit of it, despite having a 1mW radio transmitter only 20 cm away. I tried both, the stock headset and another one.
Also, the static sounds exactly the same, no matter what frequency the tunes is set to. That's unusual, cause there tend to be different kinds of disturbance in different parts of the FM band, so you would expect the static to change as well as you change the frequency, wouldn't you? It's almost like the HD2 tuner is not changing it's frequency at all!
Those of you who can't receive anything at all: Could you please repeat my experiment with the FM transmitter an post your results here? Thanks!

have you tried power radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531600 a lot better app. edit currently not supporting hd2.

yes i struggle to pick up any station at all with any headphones plugged in even large hd595's or sure se410

Iphone FM radio? Does that exist?
Isn't she just using a streaming radio via 3g connection or wifi?
In which case, there are a lot of streaming radio programs for windows mobile as well. Better music than what the radio stations play here, haha.
Going back, the HD2 radio seem to have weak reception for me as well.

1.) on my HD2 i have a brilliant FM-Radio quality
the position of the cable of the earphones is not
important. Currently I have the artemis rom 3.0.
The best radio quality i had with the 1.66 leo stock rom!
2.) a real FM-Radio need a 0,7m long antenna dependent on the wavelenght. It is not possible to include this in a mobile phone. Its just physics. An iphone has no FM radio. It's just using the internet connection for a radio stream.
So install the newest Leo Stock Rom 1.66 and you will have a lot of fun with your real FM radio

I use 1.66 stock, and compare to my old touch pro. HD2 FM reception = very2 bad.

Don't bother the built-in FM radio. It's battery drainer. In order to get best reception, you need to be at higher ground level (5-story and above...?)

All that's great, but pretty embarrassing that a $150 Symbian smartphone performed multiple times better with literally any kind of headphones.
As much as I hated the OS, it had a good radio.

hmm i dont know the quality of TP but compared to my old HD its a bit better radio signal. some additional infos i forgot:
i am using the german 1.66 and turned on the tweak in bsb tweaks.
in austria the ukw band is between 88Mhz and 108mhz.
i think the problem is the fm radio driver. on the old stockrom (1.48 as i remember) i had a very bad reception.

iPhone do not have a FM radio.
So of course, web radio is better if you have internet.

I am quite lucky. Mine only detects 6 radios and my favourite one is one of them ;-)

No FM radio on the Iphone really?? ahah take that Apple! ;-)

I've had maybe ten phones with FM radio since I went smartphone about five years ago, and none of them were even close to my 20 year old Sony pocket radio. For some reason phone makers can't create a radio that works well outside of the large cities. Waste of time for me. The HD and the HD2 weren't any better...

so true. my n95 had the best fm radio i ever had on a phone.
it was THE ONLY thing better than on my hd2, , but still....

so, are there any alternatives to the stock FMRadio for the HD2?

Poor FM radio

I have big problems with FM radio in my HD2. Reception is very poor. I can barely found any station and even this one is very silent with lot of noise.
I have tried changing it from stereo to mono in settings, which is supposed to improve signal. But that does absolutely nothing on HD2, everything stays the same.
Is that common issue? What can i do to improve signal?
My specifications are in signature.

Unfortunately the receiver in the HD2 is not the greatest.
I think the dc-dc convertor for the screen is also causing alot of HF noise.
Try to turn off the screen if you can set it to a freq where you normally receive a station and you should have less noise.

I use the radio all day and yes, its common. The hd2 has just about the worst radio I've ever used and that includes cheap (really really cheap) pound shop radios. It's abysmal, and someone at HTC is either laughing at us or was quietly sacked. No way could it accidentally be so rubbish.
Its made worse in android because for some arcane reason Bluetooth must be on AND mono doesn't work.
One tiny thing that sometimes helps is switching to a different preset and back again. Seems to lessen the Bluetooth interference, and using 2g only seems to help a hint too.
For all thati love my hd2, and I really really do, I hate the pathetic excuse for a radio.

I would also agree that the FM Radio app isn't great at all. If you have WiFi access or a data plan, I would use the Tune In Radio app found on the Market to get your local radio station crystal clear and in stereo!

The FM radio is really poor as known yeah but has anybody ever thought that it may be their headphones (as that is the satelite AFAIK). The current earphones I'm using are great on my HD2 and I'm getting no noise at all using Typhoon's latest CM7 ROM. I've had lots of problems with other headphones, but none with these new ones. Just my share.

I was using HTC headphones, cheap noname headphones and now philips headphones. Noise is the same on all headphones.

Did you try with the screen off?

I agree having the screen on produces a lot of noise. Does anyone else find sense roms are better (less noisy signals) than non-sense android roms.

Yup I find that too. It depends on the dev though, I've found AndrewF's Desire HD ROM works the best. I don't know if it's still being continued or not though as that was a month+ ago.

Guys I also want to know how to make FM radio work as the one given in the below ROM works but the reception is not good at all also for no reson it enable bluetooth when I turn on radio and if i try to disable the bluetooth it turn off the FM radio. So can anyone tell me how to get FM radio work on the ROM im using.
This is the best ROM i had found with good battery life and stability but the FM radio thing sucks and more over when asked about it in the thread it is neglected so can any1 please help me on this

Yes the reception sucks,, on any OS, and yes android requires Bluetooth to be running.

Not really reception on WinMo 6.5 was good that on windows phone 7 was pretty decent but on android its suckxxxx I tried a different radio that did not require bluetooth but then again reception was bad

In that case you're lucky, even when I'm in direct line of sight about 3 miles from our regional transmitter its rubbish,,winmo,wp7,android,,makes no difference,,I have a dirt cheap kids radio that I use for work,cost me £1 and is ten times better.

4) The streaming radio for example. by train you can not listen well
5) In dangerous situations, natural disasters or in areas without telephone coverage, the FM radio can save many lives

But then, I say, also by virtue of the fact that competition (One Htc, Sony Xperia Z, Galaxy Oprimus G, Lumia 920) has it as a function, I do not understand how anyone can not enter it.

Lots of people use their phones to listen to music more than they use them to make calls. Even if they don't necessarily listen via FM radio, it's not strange that someone would use their smartphone to do something other than make phone calls...

I've never listened to radio on my phone so the lack of it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The S3 i9300 has fm, the S3 i9305 (4g model) doesn't have fm.
If the fm chip is not active, no app will make it work.

I know, right!. That just makes it useless..

Fm radio, really? Is it still that useful, not at all. I would buy S4 and will spend $10 to buy an old cassette player which has built in FM.

Odd that they have excluded it, usually am a user of the radio on post models so it is slight irksome they haven't included it this time.

Is it %100 confirmed the Octa will not have it? American variants have always been missing the FM radio to cut cost.

People still use the fm radio? I don't like to listen to the same 5 songs with a billion ads on repeat. So no radio is great for me.

That's what people said when plastic bumpers were first introduced on cars to replace metal and mini-spare tires replaced full-size ones. You can't fight progress. This is one of those things that can't have a right or wrong answer. It surprises me how many people still value FM radio functionality. It hasn't been on carrier phones in the U.S. for years and I don't even think anyone's noticed or missed it.

Not that much really.
First up is Spotify. The mobile app offers Normal, High and Extreme quality settings, which equate to Ogg Vorbis streams at approximately 96Kbits/sec, 160Kbits/sec and 320Kbits/sec – so you can already estimate the bare minimum amount of data they’ll use over time. We measured ten minutes of Spotify streaming at each quality setting, then repeated the tests and averaged the results to make up for any variation in tracks. The difference between Wi-Fi and 3G consumption was negligible, and we couldn’t discern any audible difference between the two through our Sennheiser headphones.
Those ten minutes of Soft Cell and Rick Astley classics consumed an average of 8.9MB at Normal quality, 21.3MB at High quality and 34.7MB at Extreme quality. Taking the lowest and highest of the figures we recorded, an hour of Spotify radio streaming would use anything from 53MB to just over 212MB depending on connection and playback quality. With 80GB of storage available (16+64) you can either carry your own music around or download albums and playlists from subscription services. It's not like you're going to go music-less without an FM radio signal.

If you're stuck in the middle of one and only have your phone, that's true. At least until its battery dies because if cell and phone service is down power most likely will be too. You better have a wired headset with you too becaue it's needed for the FM radio as an antenna for it to function. And I guess you're assuming whoever's relying on their phone has no other devices available to them (TV, a real radio, Internet). If you're just wanting to find out about a natural disaster somewhere else my bet is people would be using their phone's browser or news apps, not their FM radio.
