I've been using 2.1 for about a week now, and I've noticed that unlike 1.5 there is no percentage telling you how long the phone has been awake, just the number of hours its been awake. I thought that I wouldn't have the same always awake issue in 2.1, but it seems like my battery is draining faster again. Does anyone have any tips or fixes for this?

Could always use the "Spare Parts" app..
I would check which apps are occupying the battery. I've had Slacker do that to me a lot on 2.1 ROMs.
Also, make sure you're not automatically signing into Google Talk.
What does G talk have to do with any thing?

Having Google Talk running in the background uses a significant amount of battery. Seems to make mine eat through the battery about 30% faster.

I though Gtalk used a push system like email and stuff so it shouldn't use that much.
How do you see % though in 2.1 ROMs? Is there an app for that?
I had never noticed this before. Whenever my phone is plugged in, the awake time will go to 100%. I don't know if it supposed to be that way. Is anyone else's doing that too?
I just loaded up damagecontrol 2.07.2..battery went from 90% to 77% in 35 minutes.
Restored my Pancake 1.5 nandroid..and 3 hours later my battery sits at 73%. I'll pass on 2.1, yet again.

So I unplugged at 7am this morning, and now 5 hours later, I have 29% left.
I took 1 picture, read about 7 emails.

Not to be a ****, but you've been here almost 9 months and still dont know that if you're having a problem like this to let us know what ROM youre using and the rest of your setup? That deserves 0 help...
It could be a multitude of things, your autokiller is killing off too much stuff so the apps keep restarting, you're in a bad signal area, bad app, strange sync settings, high background data usage, god only knows what.
What Rom are u using? go back to stockruu!
Check Spare Parts battery usage? Look at partial wake usage
Probably the new Facebook update keeping it awake.

Hmm... the new facebook isnt draining anything for me
make sure you calibrated your battery and also make sure your phone is going to sleep and doesn't have 100% wake time. the hero has much better battery life than the evo.
The two screenshots below say it all. I didn't really tax my phone that much.
Facebook is set to update every hour (while pushing messages to me too)
Twitter is set to update every 15 minutes
Sync was on full blast
Had only two long voice calls throughout the day (1h:30min)
Screen brightness set to lowest all day
Q: Why did my battery go UP when it wasn't on a charger all day until now?
Q: Why did my battery get used LESS when it was awake more later on the day?
Q: Is this chart no longer reliable?
PS: I tried an experiment in which I turned sync and background data off at night and I checked this chart in the morning. My "Awake" state would flux at night. What's going on that's keeping my phone awake besides cell standby?

No problem at all. I'm actually wondering that myself. I seem to get them at a random interval (haven't been tracking) but it's definitely more often than one hour at a time. I don't see any setting to adjust when the app checks for new notifications. It's all very strange.

Battery woes ;( ... tracking down faulty Apps
Here are my first two days of use. I had auto-brightness on, and I kept on wifi when I was in range. I got pretty solid life (better than my EVO on CM6.1.1). You can see I used it fairly frequently throughout both days:
I don't have the stats to back it up but I have seen a considerable increase in battery life over my N1.
By the way, is the second battery stats screen new to Gingerbread? I don't remember it in Froyo, and I like it.

Wow, that sucks. I can get at least 6-7 hours of constant use out of mine(screen on time use), so long as it's not gaming or other real heavy cpu intensive programs. I average 14 hours a day. Not bad for the nexus.

Yeah, mine only goes up to 97% usually. You can "top it off" by unplugging when it gets to 100%, re-plugging, and repeating a few times.
This may be very hard to believe, but I got 34 hours on one complete charge. I always have the brightness on full blast too. Of course, that was on very few phone calls, but lots of downloading and text messaging though. The best I ever got on the Nexus One was 26 hours.

Help, google voice update sucked my battery dry.
I just installed a google voice update on my NS. After I installed it I notice a big drop in my battery, and soon there after my battery was dead. Any ideas why?? I have since removed the update, and everything seems back to normal.
This new google maps update is destroying my battery. Is there any way to revert back to the last update, but not get rid of all the updates? ><
Anyone else notice this? I havent even opened the maps app and its taken 36% of my battery versus everything else on my phone. More than the display even.
I noticed this too. My phone was getting very hot and the battery was draining quickly. When I took a look at the battery usage info, it said that google maps had used something close to 40% of the battery. Maybe it has something to do with Latitude? I'm going to make sure I'm logged out to see if that makes a difference.
Also, looks like this isn't just limited to the shift.

As far as what others are saying, it isnt related to lattitude, at least as far as making sure you are logged out.
People have logged out supposedly and have the same problem. It makes no sense as I have always been logged into lattitude and never ran into this problem in older versions.
This probably does the opposite of help you but I installed the update the day it came out and haven't had any issues. It pops up in ATK every now and then (I just use it to watch things my phone seems to run way better when I'm not killing apps all the time) but it hasn't even showed up in my battery usage unless I use it for something of course. Even then, I've seen nowhere close to the battery usage you guys are seeing.
You'll just have to kill it on reboot, or after you open maps. It's ridiculous.

That is weird. My phone has been unplugged 21 hours and doesn't even register google maps in the battery status. Maps is updated for me as well.
I hope this gets figured out for you guys, I tried to make it happen on my phone today but I've been unplugged for over 18 hours and still have 47% remaining with maps showing in ATK all day.
It doesn't show up in my battery usage either.
^ Shift Faced
Haven't noticed my battery dieing any faster, but google maps seems to want to always run. its starting to get very annoying that every 10 minutes i have to kill it again. why won't it die and stay dead till i run the program. I've even tried using several auto killers and "startup preventivers" with no luck. and whats worse, sometimes i'll end up with 3 or 4 copies of google maps running at once. what the hell is going on?
I can use *#*#4636#*#* and I read somewhere that it can help with battery life if I set a certain antenna from there? I forgot where I read it though, if someone can please let me know that would be great. There are NO rogue apps running, I only have about 10 installed.
The phone is 4 days old, so it could be why but I've battery cycled it twice already (letting it run dead and recharging it for 10 hours). All my widgets are off except weather and that is set to update every 3 hours and it is NOT using GPS. Wifi is off, so is bluetooth. Gps is off as well.
Is anyone using maximum power saver or just the regular nighttime setting for those reporting better battery life? I also uninstalled launcher pro, it seemed to glitch my phone a lot with the google toolbar and also seemed to have a slightly bigger toll on my battery. Also battery health is stating "Good". Is that the best or does it still need more conditioning?
You probably shouldn't change things in there. Look elsewhere to conserve battery.
You didn't note what your battery life is like either. But you should still let the battery charge and drain a few more times before trying to squeak out more battery life by modifying something like this....

Well I'll give you an example. The phone was unplugged almost 6 hours yesterday, and I used it around 3 hours and 46 minutes max. It got down to 5 percent and shut off. I had my music i was listening to for 25 minutes. I had my IM program on for about an hour, had a 12 minute phone call. Was texting back and forth mainly, and I checked a few things on the browser and exited out. MY IM program uses GPS to get my location but only when I request to do so, then shut the gps off. I force closed it when I was done to be sure it wasn't gonna drain any more of my battery. My notifications are off mainly except for my texts and such. And this was with JuiceDefender on the last half of the battery.
I don't like programs like Juice Defender to be honest. They usually go buggy and drain the battery more than it saves. People just get excited and leave positive reviews.
I'd honestly reset to factory settings in case there was a one-off glitch. Set things up again and use it like you would normally to gauges things. My battery lasted over 40 hours from the first charge.
With results that bad, I wouldn't troubleshoot beyond resetting it. Take it back if that's the case. That's not right. And it's not worth your time.

Generally. I allow that there are some that are not battery hogs. I do know the chat program on my Touch Pro (I forget what it was) would suck my battery dry in an hour or two if left running in the background.
It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..

I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.
