Hi All,
I thought I'd share this little issue I've had, and managed to solve on my own *smug*
Basically, I was creating Favourites from within the tab and setting them to the quick launch style buttons on the tab itself.
None of them had thumbnails, always had the 'empty' globe icon.
I could press them, and off the browser went to the website, all works fine, just no thumbnail on the Internet tab.
I've been mostly using Skyfire as my default browser.
I've now discovered that to get around this, you need to browse to the website in question (in Opera, didn't try in IE), then add it as a favourite, then add the quick launch shortcut.
It may sound simple, but it seems a bit strange to be able to set up favourites outside of the browser (as the favourites work independent of a browser) but that the thumbnails aren't created.
Hope this helps someone
thanks for this post
now i've my thumbnail with oper10

Ok I may just be going stupid here but I want to delete some of the bookmarks that Opera seems to have as defualt. Ie when you go to the internet page it has a list of bookmarks you can choose below the planet. And when you go into bookmarks it has the links for Google UK, Wikipedia etc, what I want to do is delete some of these, is there a way?
I can't for the life of me see a way to delete them?
If Opera Mobile is still having more or less the same interface, then press the star symbol to go bookmark. Place your cursor on the bookmark to delete, then press the symbol that looks like a tool (shape of X). A dialog will appear to ask you if you want to delete it. Click delete button.
Let me know if it still work this way in this version of Opera. Cheers.
Thanks eaglesteve.
The only problem is if I tap on one of the bookmarks it launches the browser and goes to that bookmark. As there is no keyboard in the bookmark view I don't have the arrows on the keyboard to navigate down the list and select the bookmark that way. If I create my own bookmarks its not a problem, it just seems you can't delete these defualt bookmarks

That works if you want to delete the first bookmark on the list that is already highlighted. When I try to choose different bookmark it tends to just open the link. Another method is to press and HOLD the bookmark and a screen will pop up with the delete option amongst others.
Yes, the lack of D-pad makes this untuitive, but not to worry, there is another way:
Press on that item and HOLD until you see the pop up dialog letting you delete that bookmark then.

Don't tap it, just place your finger and keep it there for awhile on top of the bookmark you want to delete and you'll get a menu where you can choose what you want to do with that bookmark.
Hi, all,
Sorry to gate-crash here, but I'm a new member and haven't found the Opera section of this forum, yet.
Does anyone know how to relabel the Speed Dial icons in Opera?
thanks eaglesteve! that worked like a charm !!
You wouldnt hapend to know how to organize the favorites ? like moving them up or down. like if you want the most visited sites on top and less visited further down the line.
thanks
I installed the latest Google maps over my existing version, but now the map search from the bottom slide menu no longer works. I also installed Opera 10, but did not overwrite the existing version (because its a beta) and the bottom slide menu still launched Opera 9.
I'm guessing I need to edit something, but can't find what, even after a couple of hours on Google.

AFAIK, if you invoke internet using the bottom slide tab (of TF) it defaults to opera 9 because of its setting in the registry. I've tried to change the default browser to Opera10 but encountered several instabilities. You'll have to invoke Opera 10 from the programs menu.
Can you invoke google maps from the programs menu? If you can, then google maps is working fine, regardless of what browser application.
As a workaround I have added Opera 10 as a custom option in the registry for the internet widget (like YouTube), so I can select it from the in internet widget page. Opera 10 is the default browser launched by other programs, but I still can't find a way of launching Opera 10 by touching the "Launch Browser" globe in the internet widget, or from any of the bookmarks in the internet widget.
Google Maps works fine when run from the Program Menu, but the Maps Search widget no longer works.

Try changing this registry:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\OperaEXEfile.
Edit the contents of <OperaEXEfile> and point to Opera10.exe location. (the default is \windows\operaL.exe)
Thanks!
I didn't have that key in the registry, otherwise I would have already tried it. I added the OperaEXEfile string and it works. Can you have a quick look through your registry and see if there is one for Google maps, please?

Unfortunately, the "Map Search" was not featured in this part of the world. I installed the Google Map application and invoke it via the Programs tab, which automatically brings up the browser. It works equally fine.
Does anyone know how to change the internet favorite icons on the HD2? I set my link and the icon shows a picture of an internet site that isn't the favorite.
Sometimes the picture doesn't even come up. It's still the empty black box with the name of the favorite in it.
After you set it as a favorite in the visual bookmarks, you have to shutdown the browser, then open it using the new tab. After that, it will show the first page of the site thats assigned to that tab.
If you want to get rid of the existing site on a tab, just long press on it then drag it to the edge till it turns red. Tab is now empty and ready for a new bookmark assignment.
Hope that helps
I tried that. It worked for most of the icons but there are a couple that keep putting up the Wikipedia page for a favorite that isn't Wikipedia. It's super annoying.
Hi. I have recently got a Touch 2. On the tabs along the bottom of the screen, the fifth tab from the left is the one featuring a 'globe' icon. Tapping it opens the 'Opera' browser. I prefer using Internet Explorer and (at the moment) have to open that by using the 'Start' menu. Is there a way of making IE the default browser so that it starts when the 'globe' tab is tapped? I imagine this requires dumping of 'Opera' and making tapping of the 'globe' icon leading to IE. HTC gave me a solution, then, when that didn't work, said, 'It can't be done.' Any ideas? Cheers
I know exactly what you need...
1. Find application called M2DC on this forum.
2. Install it.
3. Run it. There are some tabs at the bottom of the screen.
4. Find tab "Internet" and click on it.
5. Then change the path to the Internet Explorer in the Windows folder.
6. That's it. You should be able to use globe icon to run IE.
(I am not sure, but you maybe need to softreset the phone after changing that.)
Hi, Mekki99.
I did that and it works, well almost. IE starts from the tab on the 'Today' screen, but then says 'Cannot find 'hxxp:///home'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.' If I advance to the relevant menu to go to the 'Home' page, it finds the one i have lodged as the Home Page. Where to from here? Cheers.
why do you wanna surf the net with internet explorer and not opera mini 5, which is super fast compared to the old opera or internet explorer?
Quite simply, I prefer IE. Thanks.
Hello, my solution for this problem:
In TotalCommander go into registry folder (\\Plugins\registry)and go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
1.Changing browser- open file (WebBrowserType) and change value from 1 to 2.
2.Changing URL- open folder Customized and find file (BannerUrl) and change value to your favorite homepage.
3.Restart
Hi. Thanks for your solution.
Can you help me a bit further?
What is TotalCommander?
How do I get to the quoted registry folder?
Cheers
Hi, Ondrej.
Don't worry, I have followed your directions using a bit of lateral thinking and solved that issue. Thanks heaps.
Now can you turn your mind to the problem I relate in thread 730375 (On the 'Start' menu, there are a number of icons / applications. They all start with one tap. Except 'Internet Explorer'. The first tap on the IE icon, takes you back to the 'Today' screen, with 'Internet Explorer' briefly being able to be seen in place of 'Start', then the words disappear. However, the programme does not run. On tapping 'Start', again, and then tapping once on the 'IE' icon (again), it runs. This happens every time I want to use IE. Why? HTC Contact Centre suggested I place IE on the 'Programs' page and try that. It was the same. They have failed to respond to my response. Is there a remedy? The same behaviour occurs when opening from the 'Programs' tab on the 'Today' screen, or from the 'Browser' tab on the 'Today' screen'.)
Cheers. Dave
Hi, TotalCommander is a file manager program for windows. You have to download and install a pocket pc version. Because Iam new here, I cant write you url. Please find this program on internet. (Download cab for arm/pxa/xscale).
Start a TotalCommander and go into root (\) You will see a \\Plugins folder.
Hi, Ondrej.
Thanks. See my last post before yours. I have fixed that issue, but want to resolve the last one! Any help appreciated. Cheers.
I'm working on it.
Thanks, Ondrej.

Here with me, I don't want to use IE, I prefer to use Opera. The HTC im using came with Opera Mobile 9.5 and is the browser that opens when i click on the globe on one of the tabs of M2D. I downloaded mobile opera 10 for windows touch phones thinking that it will update the current opera browser, and to my dissatisfaction - it did not. Opera Mobile 10 appears on my program list.
How do I make it the browser that opens when i click on the globe? Should I follow the instructions provided in this thread? I don't want to mess up my registry and have irreversible issues.

Is this the same procedure if I would like to change it to any browser, say Opera Mobile 10? The person who started this thread wrote he got problems after he did this operation.
I use GO Launcher, so not sure if folders works the same way as default, but I think so. You drag items together and can change folder name, and can add more to it with "+" or dragging. My problem is I create browser shortcuts and drag them into a folder called "Favorites". But once I have 3 shortcuts and add a 4th, one of the existing 3 disappears. Can seem to add as many apps as you want, just seems to do something odd with shortcuts.
Or it might have something to do with total number of items since I have another folder "Bookmarks" with 14 shortcuts, but when I add a 15th one disappears. Very strange behavior!
I am using Nova Launcher and do not have this issue. I would contact go launcher sounds like a bug in there side.. You can also try to use stock launcher and see if it persist or troubles go away. Its very easy to check if the bug is launcher or not .. Install another launcher and try it..
Good Luck
I've been playing with this. Turns out if I create a shortcut with long press (shortcut thru GO) I can add a bookmark, which pulls from Chrome list. I can drag these into the folder with no problem. But if I am in FF Aurora, and long press the link to create bookmark on desktop... that bookmark is the one that tends to make another disappear.
So not sure if it's an Aurora, or GO, or JB issue. At least I've found the workaround... and the shortcuts create from the Chrome list, still open in Aurora (what I prefer). I'm guessing it's a Firefox issue.
