Great tool to use to read xml - Hero CDMA General

If uve tried to read xml file and tried to convert them over to readable xml using the axmlprinter2.jar file and going through the command prompt.
this file will be great then. it still uses the axmlprinter2 but someone created this exe to cut out a bunch of steps.
I take no credit for this
please note this is only to read the xml and not to be used to change it in anyway

Winampaq skins

Does anyone use Winampaq? If so, have you managed to use any of the Winamp 2.x skins?
I'm having trouble trying to use them. Basically, I put the relevant skin (.wsz) file in a folder, but when I use the browse function on Winampaq, the list only shows the folders and not what is contained within each folder
Any ideas?
Many thanx
change the wsz extention to zip and unzip the files to a dir
and point to that dir using winampaq
and they all work at least all the skins i've tried
Thanks Rudegar, but you must excuse my ignorance. I have zipped the wsz file, but I can't extract it directly to my XDA2. I have to extract it to my desktop first, before syncing the file to the XDA2. But once extracted to the desktop, it is a .wsz again so zipping it hasn't made any difference.
Could you explain to me step by step how you do it, please?
I'm using "StuffIt" to zip the file, but I guess the results would be the same as if using "WinZip".
Once again, please excuse the ignorance, but I really want to change the skin as the default one isn't very pleasing to the eye!
Many thanks
you have to CHANGE the extention of the file
before
skinname.WSZ
after
skinname.zip
you have to edit the file name not zip the file
wsz is just a zipped file to begin with
after you change the extention you can just copy out the stuff from inside it
i use total commander both on my pc and on my xda because it makes it easy to work with zip files and other things, it sees zip files like dir's and you can copy stuff from inside them without any problems
Many thanks for your help, Rudegar. I will give it a shot...

How to install .XML files??

How to install the .xml files bundled in the cabs.rar?? I do not know how to make the extrom run automatically after the HR so i have to install each cab file 1 by 1, can anyone help??
Use the ones in cabs2. Also make sure you know what are those .xml for (they are replaced with .cab (s) in cabs2)
xml files are a typicaly a formatted text file like html
not really binary exe programs files
some programs use xml files to store settings and data
maybe they need to be in a location the program in question
will look for them

Did you mean copy the .xml files to the location of the program file ??
use HTCustom1.7.cab
yup...
I am having the same issue. I keep seeing these .xml files. I am not a computer guru lol. Do I cut and paste it somewhere on my phone or what? I am so lost please help.
Same thing here on my side mixtape_butcha. I'm subscibed in an Universal forum and have to install a USB switch which is a folder containing an xml file. I asked many time a guide on how to use it but nothing came back.
If you happen to know how to handle it, let me know. I'l do the same with you.

first of all it is nice that you looked up a matching post yourself and obviously searched for a solution there, but...
if i get your problem right, it doesn't match the ones before. they were talking about .xml files that came with a cab file and stored the settings on how to install and execute.
you, however, talk about a subscribtion to a thread, meaning your xml file is an RSS feed, for which you need a special reader, since PIE is not a proper desktop browser and therefore does not handle feeds. but there is a lot of software out there to handle rss feeds. i personally use spb online 1.2, but there is also freeware, like this: http://www.dewantoro.net/search/pda+rss+reader+cab
i don't get the point with the usb switch though, maybe if that didn't solve your problem you should post further details about that issue and maybe post filenames or screenshots so we all know exactly what you are about to do.
You need not worry to install xml file if it comes with a cab. Cab file should be designed to use it automatically. xml files store usually configurable settings, it may be worth opening those files using any text editor like note pad or even IE to check the contents, that may help if any change is needed. But 99% chances are that you need not do any thing with those xml files.
I have found some people run in to this problem when they download a .cab file from the internet and once downloaded it is a .rar so you extract the .rar to find NOT .cab but .xml
Here is more about it and how to fix it.

I am trying to install a game on my MDA Vario IV , it does have .xml file. But no .cab files , only .000 file , .002 , .003 , and .004 files. How do i install this game then ? The installer is the .xml file.
EDIT : Nvm , fixed it , i needed not the files within the .cab file , but just the .cab file itself to extract in on my mobile.

Couple of things:
You are in the wrong subforum. This section is for the Blue Angel. You should look for the Blackstone (aka Touch HD) section.
Now, the file that you opened is a cab file. You don't need to extract the contents of a cab file. Just copy it to your device and click on it one. The cab will install everything, including the settings in the xml.
Good luck!

Manila editing and lua:tutorial

Hey people,
Many people were pm'ing me n asking me to write tutorials on how to edit manila files n write lua.
As its a very less known topic im one of the few people who knows how to write it and edit it.
I will try to explain the basics first n then the advanced stuff
WHAT WE DO
---
To be frank
manila editing is complicated. Not cause its hard but cause it need a lot of imagination
UnLike other languages that uses graphics like flash or vb or whatever lua and manila editing DOES NOT give you a visual workspace
You have to image what you write in real time and so it needs a lot of trial /error
THE BASICS
What we need
1>m9editor
the files we want to work on
1>As the basics i would like to explain how the background for all tabs mod was made
1.we have a file called 5c9aa261_manila.
for me this is the most important file that a developer needs
in manila this is a file that controls backgrounds
1>For example it runs on every tab and executes its functions on every tab
It is the shadow of tf3d
So anything that you want in the background in every tab or u want to be seen in every tab u put here
So by common sense the slider and the background are in this file
Now what we do for the bgfor all mod
STEP 1
1>Make a png file size 512 X 512
Manila cant take a image of any size.Therea re fixed sizes.i personally always use the size 512 X 512
So now we have a image named lets say sample.png
STEP 2
copy the file 5c9aa261_manila from the windoes folder and open it in m9editor
doubl click it
NOw the hard part
the structure of a manila file was something that took me loads of thinking to figure out
a basic structure
Group (named whatever)
--FIle in group(top most layer)--this is what is seen right on top
--File in group(second layer)--this is what is seen underneath the upper file
and so on a and so forth
LUA
lua files are action script that are recognised by the tf3d
usually lua files are either of two types
1>binaries(damn its just a name nothing more)
using the search button you can search for "binary"
click on it and you will see code in it underneath
2>files that we ad..they always end in .lua ..so using search search for ".lua" and you will find it
Lua is scanned through by tf3d when u start it the first time
lua is usually at the top of the file
so for example lets write a little lua
Code:
money=function()
rotastrainsdonations=whatpeopledonated
if rotastrainsdonations>200$ then
title.String="rotastrainsrich"
else
title.String="need smore donations"
end
end
slider.onPress:money
this is seen by tf3d
whenever you will press the slider this function will be called
and it will display what the function does!!
So when u move around in the file you will see groups and files in them..
if you understand this much its enough to make whatever the hell u want
ok now getting back to what we want to do
Step 3
Searching for the existing background
images are always .qtc files
So search for ".qtc"
you will come to a file called "backgroundlevel1..blahblahblah.qtc"
now that we found it we need to place the file we want on top of it..so thats its seen in right on top and in every tab
so how to make a file that we want?heres secret no1
1>copy any qtc file thats existing by right clicking its entry ..for example the file now is "backgroundlevel1..blahblahblah.qtc"
right click copy
now right click on the entry again
click paste below
so now we have two entries of the same name
Group
--backgroundlevel1..blahblahblah.qtc
--backgroundlevel1..blahblahblah.qtc
change the top entries name
---change this name to whatever you want--for example firstbg
so now we have two entries
--firstbg.qtc
--backgroundlevel1..blahblahblah.qtc
now click ok
move your mouse over the entry
a small popup will appear
with a name like gftfgrh455_manila
thats the name of your file
Write it down somewhere
Click save
owerwrite
Step 4
now we need a qtc file to put ur image in
just take any _manila file from the windeos foler which is a image file
For example the file that i have used in my panoramic background mod
i will attach that here
paste it in the same place as the 5c9aa261_manila file
open it in m9editor
right click it
save as png
open the png file
paste your image in
save
open m9editor
right click the qtc file
load from png
rename the file to what we got earlier "gftfgrh455_manila"
done
Now paste both these files in ur widows folder
and walla
bgforall tabs in a second
This is a basic thing to do
Next step will be to integrate images with lua..
!!
Cheers
Rotastrain
Thank you, thank you!
Awesome... exactly what I was looking for! Please, do go on....
xoxo Maureen
thats a great idea!
you are tha man!
This is very nice... I can not wait for the followup. image editing is pretty nice but I am having more trouble with decompiling the lua files. Also is there an easy way to break out the scripts and files into there directory structure? so that we can find all the internet tab items in one folder and all the common in another? I tried a few of the lua kitchens that I have seen around but most of them seem to crash when I try to use them on the 2.5 manila files. is there a difference?
Thanks for this. It is nice to see someone sharing there knowledge and expertise.

Recover >13.5MB

Been doing this since the very first xda.
I'm sure lots of people do the same but I thought I wanted to share with the new members this trick.
Unzip the attached file and see if you need any of them and if you do remove or do not overwrite those original files.
Using other than the file explorer say Resco or Total look for the original files inside the Windows folder and rename the file extensions to say ".old".
Once you have renamed the ones you do not want or need overwrite with the files I have provided.
After that delete the ones you changed to for example ".old" extension.
Reset and you would have recovered more than 14,178,834 bytes.
thanks a lot, was looking for smth like this!

[SCRIPT] Quickly Convert *.java To *.smali Code

Most of us often want to add custom functionality to an existing apk and know how to do it in java, but don't know the exact dex/smali syntax. Trying to add this, there, test, error, debug, fix & hopefully getting it to work is common. To solve all of that trouble, I bring you this.
I made these little scripts to add an extension to Windows explorer shell for doing a task most people couldn't just do this easy. So now can just write your functionality in java, right-click the file & click Convert To *.smali and tada! You have the dex/smali compatible code which you can then paste it into your apk smali file.
Installation:
Download the attachment & extract the archive.
Run install.cmd as Administrator to install Windows Explorer shortcut.
You can also darg-n-drop files on convert.cmd to convert them.
Nice bro
Thank you very much. This is exactly what I need
Thanks for the information..
I would like you to help me with this issue since I do not want to work the conversion
it not work
where is the converted smali jfile?
