MMS Issue - Nexus One General

Hey guys, My Nexus is rooted with Enomther's rom. I also use Handcent as my text app, but I'v noticed when I receive MMS the pictures are really low quality and grainy. Any reason why? It's almost pointless to get MMS..

Is it the handcent application, the default or both? Either way very weird, I never had that problem. You may want to wipe and reflash the rom.

It's been like that since stock

It'll be down to the handset the MMS is sent from, surely?

Try changing the user agent in Handcent, if you're operator doesn't recognise the phone it may automatically resize to the lowest common denominator.

hey Homotechual, are you using tmobile?
I was on att with nexus one initially and mms was fine but since i've switched to tmobile the mms quality has been horrible. Very grainy. I've noticed that what it does it convert the images to a 5Kb file which of course would make almost any picture crappy. I have no idea how to resolve this but it's driving me mad. I've also tried several different roms and even tried handcent..HELP!

MMS not being received by another

I sent a picture message many times to my friend and she never received it. I tried it on hanscent, chompsms, and the original messaging app and she hasnt received it. I'm on tmobile by the way. Is there a problem going on right now with the mms department?
I'm having an issue receiving MMS on my N1 on Vodafone in Ireland. I won't receive them at all even thought I have entered all the correct settings!!
Cheers,

Is the phone rooted? Do you have a custom rom installed, if so flash the rom again.

yes it is rooted to cyanogens 5.0.4.1 i flashed it about 3 times.
i had to change certain settings to be able to send mms to iphones....
I've had issues sending mms on my unrooted n1.
I think it has something to do with the photo size (despite being compressed for mms) if i send a regular picture (always on highest resolution) the report stays on pending until failure. however if i use something like ezimba and reduce the file by say 30% it's received almost immediately...
not sure if this is the cause or not, but that's the work around i've found to get it to work...

what settings? i'm having trouble sending pictures to iphones (3gs) too.
Picture size must be under 300k (this includes the text message).
There is a setting under handcent that lets you specify the maximum size. By default it is 500k.
Change that setting and it may work better for you.

Mms

Hey everyone, I'm diggin the gtizzle other than one small problem. Everytime I want to send a pic (on stock messaging app) it always shows as a slide show..I never had this problem on my g1 and can't figure it out, a friend said you can send a pic that isn't a slideshow using handscent but I don't like that app, any other solution?

Nope. I just set handcent to look like the messaging app. Problem solved. I'm assuming they'll fix this in an update.
Handcent is really way better tho. You should just set it as ur default app..

I use ChompSMS because I've always preferred it over the native app. I just want the LED in the speakergrill to be enabled so I can use my color coded alerts again. There are a few software bugs already causing pretty big issues so I am hoping an OTA update is on the way soon

Yes you need to create a new apn. Mine and my gf was same but I made new apn and it working flawlessly. Make new apn similar to stock except put nothing in apn type field. Stock one has default, mms,* the one you make should be blank. I also changed name to T-Mobile US LTE. I just realized I could have take screen shot and avoided this sigh.

I was having the same problem with Chomp. Used your APN fix and seems only to work as long as I keep chomp from allowing message sizes to be no more than 300K. Usually it cuts down the resolution to something like 120k and the resolution just isn't so great still. Any time a message was sent larger than 300k it would send out, but upon recieving it I would get an error.
Other folks experiencing the same ?
This is what I had to do for GoSMS. I don't see issues with image resolution as big MMS is sent via their own service and MMS under 300Mb is sent via the network.
The solution is actually to change the APN Protocols to IPv4/IPv6. Everything else can be the same.

iPhone MMS not appearing on Messages but they show fine on Google Hangouts... WTH?!?

This one has me scratching my head looking for answers. I noticed this problem a while ago where my friends MMS sent from iPhones were not appearing on my Messages, I have the option for "fetch MMS automatically" and all I get is the little cloud but its blank, it only shows the time it was received, I've also tried disabling the fetch MMS automatically and even when downloading them it shows me the blank cloud. The doozy comes when I tried using Hangouts just to see what it was and to my surprise I could see all my SMS and MMS conversations from my contacts and all the pictures from the iPhone contacts were shown via Hangouts but they do not show on the stock Messages app.
Things I've tried:
1) Googling for answers only resulted in fanboyism comments and speculations that led to more fanboyism.
2) At first I tried contacting my carrier and they made me reset the APN settings to default, which I did and it was after that that I realized that it was only the iPhone MMS messages that weren't being received.
3) Tried disabling the Hangouts services via the Apps option on the settings menu. Restarted phone and still wouldn't work.
4) Been restarting my phone with each setting I change to see if it helps but no.
5) Been bugging my friends to send me MMS from their iPhones and one did get through but nothing more after that.
6) Made sure their iPhones had the setting of "Send MMS when iChat isn't available" enabled.
7) Made sure my old iPhone account was signed out of my old iPhone 4 so I wasn't receiving anymore iMessages.
I'm speculating that I either need to call my carrier again which is Claro PR and explain the situation to see if it helps, or maybe go to a store. Also, I've been thinking about Rooting my phone so I can uninstall some of the bloat, which included Hangouts but don't want to go down that path yet and I don't know if it would really help anything since I already tried disabling the service via the Apps options.
Please help me figure this out, I love this phone but this thing is bugging the hell out of me.
I have had problems with mms on hangouts and the stock app on Sprint doesn't support group mms. I have been using Go sms pro and everything works fine, including iPhone mms messages.
Hope that helps.

Hmm... interesting a replacement messaging app, I would definitely keep this in mind so thanks a lot for the suggestion. I rather use the stock apps while I'm getting used to the phone since this is my first Android device but will definitely use this if resetting to factory defaults doesn't help my problem.
*Edit*
Any other suggestions for my problem are welcomed.
LG didn't enable MMS group messaging on stock messages. My HTC One and S4 had the option in settings to enable it...LG left it out. If you haven't heard, TEXTRA is one of the best, fastest, light weight messaging apps that can handle iPhone group messages without the bloat on go sms and handcent. Look it up on the playstore...ratings are great and all my Android friends use it now. I've yet ran into any issues with group texting.

Hi and thanks for the reply, I've looked up Textra and seems like a nice alternative and has a very clean interface, I'm currently using Hangouts from Google without a problem but would have preferred the stock message app. It's weird because I went to my carrier and they did some test and everything was fine, turns out its only MMS sent from iPhones that won't show through the Message app from G2. Maybe I should try emailing them to see if I can get some answers?
Yea only the Verizon variant supports group messages. I posted a thread about this in the Themes and Apps forum. Could be the cause.
All my friends group text me all the time and send MMS using the Verizon version Messaging app and hangouts. The stock messaging app world best though.

Galaxy S5 compressing images too much through texting

I have noticed this problem since the phone came out. I know there was a mod for GS3 to stop the compression, but I have yet seen one made for this phone.
I made a similar post over in the Sprint GS5 forum and someone suggested to use a third party SMS app. Unfortunately that didn't stop the compression.
Does anyone know of a solution to this?
Hello, I don't get where this is happening to you? Is it through MMS ? Or a specific chat app?
Yes, MMS. Im using the stock messaging. The images compress to the point where it is very grainy and just awful looking. I was just wondering if there was a way or a mod to stop the compression once added to a message.
Depending on what provider you use, you may not be able to fix it. When I was on Verizon I could not get a better than about 20kb picture to send. Nothing I did from custom Roms to modded apps changed that.
I could change it with sprint, and I dont have to change it with tmo, it already sends really good pics stock. They're still compressed but they're usable.
They Textra sms/mms app. Then go manual MMS settings, and change the value of "largest mms size available". Try 300kb, 600kb and maybe 1mb. But be aware that your carrier will have a limit as well, so if you choose a value in you texting app that is over theirs, the mms will not be delivered.
