!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!stop posting 2.1 threads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really... this one is for real this time guys!
Just like every other post... We will see when the time comes.
It does seem likely with Sprint employees supposedly having training scheduled for a 2.1 release.
Meh, whatever. I gots plenty of 2.1 here to hold me over.

seriously excited...thanks for the 'news'...
OMG 2.1! I can finally have yet ANOTHER 2.1 ROM around, except this time will be "official". Yay!
Seriously, these rumors are getting out of hand. Damageless' rom is basically a rooted 2.1 stock.
I'm kicking a baby seal at the next person who post these screenshots or links to these screenshots again.
We know, May is the date, yay! :\

how do we get our devices which are rooted with 1.5 able to upload to the official 2.1?
i read somewhere that u cant flash to an official when device is rooted

you don't want it, just wait the dev roms to come out. if you update you will lose root at least for awhile maybe forever.
you want root.
you need root.
(but only if you like themes/roms/root apps/being able to remove system apps/sticking it to the man/other badass stuff)

good point .. i will sit back and enjoy the perks that all these talented devs offer ! .. will wait for their 2.1 version after the official is released
buying time with my hero until the EVO god phone comes out .. haha
sticky
i think this is the best clue we have as to when 2.1 will be officially released, whether or not we'll need it beside the point.
i say we make this a sticky to discourage more rumors, as this is straight from sprint, and will shut everyone else up. it will be the widely accepted date for right now, and stop talk of it (we all should rest assured it IS coming at SOME point)
for now i encourage possible 2.1 users to try out damages for a very stock feel, flipz for more of a bounce and even a little bit more stability, and legends to just have fun.
-kurtis
i heard they decided to pull the plug on 2.1 because 2.5 is almost bug-free. and it comes with not just live-wallpaper, but with smell-a-talk! now you can smell the breath of your caller....... available on the future release of HeroVo 3
I'm on stock 1.5 and I keep on getting an "Update Device" pop up for Heroc2000 Firmware update ......should I update it?
i vote yes.
I got tired of waiting ... im still tired of waiting so I put the fresh rom on.. and im never waiting again...
Can't wait "NOT"
I can't wait for the Official. Oh wait I've been on it for weeks. Can someone please explain why we care when the official is release. I only see one advantage. Fresh will turn it on in his Kitchen.

Cant wait for this to come out
Not even sure that came from Sprint. It is just a random shot of a "memo". I will not buy into it. It would be nice tho.
from the comments:
I spoke with sprint customer service today b/c my MMS stopped working after I updated the PRL today and they said there would be a maintenance release on april 9th to fix the MMS issue, but it was not the 2.1 update. So don't get your hopes up. --- Submitted by repinphilly247 on Thu, 03/25/2010 - 18:52.
so it may have nothing to do with 2.1 at all...
we shall see, I'm not dying over this, there's only a few small nagging issues left over in the 2.1 roms we already have.
i dont think its 2.1

Actually, none of the issues that are bugging me with DC are rumored to be fixed in the official update anyway, as far as I've heard.
I could get excited about it if they fix Gmail or have live wallpapers working with Sense, though.
It specifically says tentatively April 9 which means that could change. I am sure they are still running tests and when its good, which they hope by April 9, then it will be released.
If you read more than just "Hero" and "Update" on the picture you linked...
It says
"Unable to download picture notifications.
HTC HERO
Fix will be part of the maintenance release scheduled for 04/19/10. Tickets are not needed for these picture mail issues."
Pay attention and stop posting random dumbness..
This is an internal service memo... The update will be released and announced.. Be patient

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what this could be, and is no way random dumbness.
I firmly believe this is not 2.1, but the only way to find out is to wait until 4/9.
Thanks for the post, and heres to hoping this is INDEED 2.1!
i dont know officially if it is 2.1, but internally all our updates are called "maintenance releases", no matter how big or small they may be. hell, the other day the tp2 went from 6.1 to 6.5 and we billed it as a maintenance release. but imho, this is 2.1.
I wouldn't think they would call 2.1 a "maintenance" release.
i work there you big dummy. if we called wm6.1 to 6.5, how can you be sure? webos 1.3.5 to 1.4 was also a sprint "maintenance release". just be happy with that answer... and just be glad you dont have a moto droid, lol

i agree with you but also it does clearly state what it fixes. so idk im iffy to get my hopes up. i dont think it is 2.1
that document contained errors and had been revised. The official word is still coming soon... the version must go thru testing no need in releasing it only to have to issue another update after a week or so right

Are you friends with the other Sprint employees here who swore they had inside info and the 2.1 update was coming Feb 22nd and then today March 26th?

i heard april 26th for 2.1........
maybe we are getting an updated radio on the 6th?
so i have a sprint store down the street, i went about 2 hours ago and i was chatting with this guy who seemed to know about rooting and etc. he was a rep; so i asked him " i know you heard something about the update, and the rep told me we are getting our update on MONDAY. Whats funny to me is all these reps are full of crap, they all tell you different things, but this guy seemed pretty confident that were getting our update on monday, lol i guess we will have to see right guys? just thought i would share...
the tech center at my local sprint store said june, so theres your answer. they are all full of ****.
Screw Sprint! I am getting all my updates here!
lol yeah man, i want to believe him so bad, i know we all do, were all hungry for this update, i mean i love getting my roms here, but i just want the official to launch because it helps our devs make our roms nastier lol. other than that sprint can kiss my azz
Regardless of when it comes out, I will still be waiting since I will only install it when a dev here makes a ROM of it. I will not go back to stock RUU ROM from Sprint. No thank you.

How likely would Sprint/HTC be to try and "fix" the asroot method of obtaining root? I know people who are too scared to do it, but I was wondering if after the update, they'd be out of luck until a new way was found.

That came with the Sprint leaked ROMs. If you have 1.5 it will not be on there. It's on the 2.1 Could not be getting our phones ready for an OTA as those that are stilled unrooted running stock would then be screwed out of an update. I think it is so we can get updates HTC may make to Sense UI and apps that they build.

very likely since it is on the newer linux kernel which patches the way we rooted the hero.
Yeah, I chatted with a Sprint person/robot thing and was told it's coming "very soon", and this was last month, so who knows when it's coming, all I know is it'd better be PERFECT when it's out seeing as how they're taking forever to release it.

it happens with iphone all the time....
and has happened in other electronics...
The new Official 2.1 for the Hero, that was released recently, has relocked the Hero.. and no one has been able to find a way to root it...yet. So all that have tried to use the Official update are stuck locked up.
Yes You can block and OTA update. Just Dont select that option in your menu!
Have people every considered that HTC might actually want the phone to be able to be rooted?
While there is the argument that Sprint will lose out on the tethering cash that (very few) people of technical ability might pay... they more than make up for it having a hot phone that every geek wants to get and customize. I will only buy a phone that can be rooted and customized from here on out...and I think HTC and Sprint know that.
Crazy idea?
tooo goodddddddddddd i am already using EVO ITS simpleeee amazing i use to have iPhone
EVO isssss sooooo much betterr
The details of getting root are not being released ON PURPOSE. They don't want Sprint/HTC find out how to patch the hole before the phone is released. Sprint/HTC will try to patch it before it's officially released. Then when everyone has it in their hands, then the instructions can be given out.

That make sense, but anyways, does it have to be rooted, i mean, so far the device seems to be awesome. I think the EVO will be rooted sooner or later, let's use it as is for a wile so when finally we can root it, will be like we have a new device, again!
I know most people are probably anxious to use the Wifi Hotspot feature, w/o paying the extra $30 to Sprint.. So rooting it would be 1st step to get this without paying extra.

Seriously though, I'm super eager for an official Froyo as I'm convinced the FRF50 update caused serious issues with using mobile data (constant errors and slow speed when using data and not on wifi).
No OTA for people on Cyanogen though /:

That is actually precisely what they mean, and is why they only have 4k for launch. They're running the pre-release Froyo on them.
I wouldn't expect to see Froyo for another couple weeks people. Don't hold your breath.
Engadget says 4,000 units will be available for sale in South Korea on June 21st.
I'd expect OTA sometime around that week.

I am having so much fun modifying my rooted phone and 2.1 that I don't even notice how long it's taking to get any OTAs or 2.2 for that matter.

Oh, wait, IT'S NOW OCTOBER. I guess what they meant is you could look for it in September, but what they didn't say is you wouldn't find it.
You people aren't going to be happy if they release it and its not ready. I would wait as long as it takes to get it and have no issues or less of them. You know if they release it before its good to go and you have some issues you will come back and complain. I would love to have it now just like everyone.
