Does anyone know that this program is on my task bar. I'm not sure what it is. I thought It was Touch X Taskmanager but it looks different than the last version I installed on it. It also seems to be conflicting with my time display. I know it seems silly but I don't go around installing random things without knowing what they are. Thanks
I believe that is Dutty's HTC Task Manager.
Unless of course you're referring to something else... then I'm completely at a loss.
When I go to settings -> system -> remove programs, I dont see Dutty's. I DO see Touch X Taskmanager though. When I try to remove it, it says "Touch X Taskmanager was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?" I click yes, and then it just goes to the bottom of the program list.
I'm pretty positive that's Dutty's, I don't have Dutty's, but just plain ol HTC Task Manager. same Icon, different drop down set.
I actually found a cab of Dutty's on my SD card so you guys are probably right. I'll keep searching for a way to remove it. It just looks so ugly and I hate that it overlaps with my time. But thanks.

If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

HELP!!!
I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Just soft reset your phone.

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

A friend just purchased a Touch and I got a chance to mess around with it.
After about 2 hours of searching and looking there is only one thing I now want on my mogul, Quick Menu.
It allows you to quickly close programs that are currently running in the back ground and it is accessible right from the top menu bar.
It's called HTC Task Manager and you will find it here along will all other HTC apps. I highly suggest the photo album! Also if you want the cube on your Titan, try this install which runs smoothly.
HTC X-Button programs
This is the program you're asking for... it allows u to completely close a program either by tapping or tapping & holding the x-button. It also gives u a drop down menu when you're at the today screen that allows you to see what programs are running and close them that way. Version 2.0 adds icons to the drop down list.

Thanks for the help guys.
I searched and searched but could not come up with the program name.
Installing WkTask seems to disable the WM6.5 start menu on my Tilt 2. The Windows button no longer works, and the start button does not work either. Has anyone else noticed this, or is there a known workaround? I needs mah task switcher!
wktask doesnt seem to work good in wm6.5, so work around is not to use it LOL

Any suggestions for an alternative that makes it easy to switch between running programs (and doesn't need a hard-key)? WkTask puts the "Windows" in "Windows Mobile".
I'm using iss Task Switcher
i have them both coexisting. Occasionally I lose the start menu, but very rarely
This bug's been bothering me since switching to 6.5 too.
I've been trying to isolate the Start Menu process so I can add it to the WkTask exclusions - but haven't yet found it...
Anyone else looked at this - or any chefs know what the Start Menu's exe is named?
WkTask is a great app, but I can't stand losing the start menu
THIS worked for me.
Just add \Windows\Shell32.exe to the exclusion list.
for me wktask worked good on all wm6.5 builds even on 6.5.1 it works good the only problem is its not transparent so i'm forced to set black top...

That's something completely different... I can't close the start menu, because I can't even GET TO the start menu. The start icon in the top left stops working, and the Windows hardware button stops working.
Maybe it's something specific to the Tilt 2?

Hello everyone,
can someone tell me that by clicking "X" in an app my HD2 will finally close programs and will not keep them running in the background...!?
In my ROM (2013/6.5.3) there is no feature in the settings area as in former times to enable or disable it. Is there any registry hack?
Thx in advance.
Nobody any clue??
Install Dutty's task manager and it will add that option to your control panel.
Another option is WKTask. It hasn't been updated for a long time and looks like the author has lost interest, but it works fine with 6.5 and even 6.5.3. Just disable the skin (which draws its own OK or X button on the task bar) - you will not loose any functionality.
Isn't there any registry solution?
Dutty's Task Manager didn't as it is not compatible with 6.5.x. The setting was added but didn't affect anything...
Try the TouchX task manager. Both Dutty's or that have always worked for me, so you may still have the 6.5.5 compatibility issue, but I've never heard of that before.
For windows mobile 6.5.x try this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618300" its works great
In fact I do not want a task manager. I just want to close programs and not minimize them. There must some kind of registry hack for that...

No! There is none. You need a programm that runs in background/as a process which monitors the x-button and closes programms. Its just like that.
BTW. WKTask and Opera 10 dont work together. Try installing WKTask and got to landscape in Opera10. The device will crash. Can anybody please confirm this as i still love WKTask (Im on RTTs RTMi 5 ROM with 6.5.3 and Sense 2013) --> Thanks guys
I want something like this too. I came from an iPhone, so excuse my noobness but when you hit the HOME key it closes a program out, not run in the background. I want to be able to hit 'X' at the top and it closes the program out, not run in the background. I just cant believe nobody has made a run around, a .cab or reg edit for this. I hate having a slow HD2 because the proccess keep piling up.

I never said there is no solution. Theres just no way via the registry. You will need one of the millions of taskmanagers out there. I recommend Ameba (close via tapping x, minimize via holding x) in combination with ArkSwitch (complete Taskmanager, can be opened via tapping left part of the taskbar or long press sendkey). The best and most stable solution in my opinion.
Greets
Forget the iphone they invent now the multitasking....
Get one task manager and a ram cleaner(optional) and go with multitasking!!!!
You will get used of it
Take a look at Wisbar: great program, great developer and a excelant support
Hi,
i have got a contrary problem.
My running programs do not stay in the Backround.
Mostly, if i push the home or back-key, my HD2 closes the actual program. The program is in backround for a short time and then it closes.
I can see it, i have WKTask running. It is the same, if i have uninstalled WKTask, so this taskmanager is not the cause.
I have this problem mostly, not always but i canĀ“t see the cause.
What is wrong with my HD2?
A while back I flashed a ROM that had a nifty task manager on the bottom right hand side of the screen beside all the normal COM5 style menu buttons. I really liked this feature. I had to change the background color of the task manager, but otherwise it was very useful and perfectly complimented windows mobile operations.
Eventually I had to move on from the ROM (mainly because I am a flash junkie, and couldn't go for more than 2 weeks without trying something new). However, I don't see any other ROMs with that very nifty feature and I was wondering why not? I was also wondering if anyone knew what the task manager was called, and whether or not it can be installed properly after flashing other 23563 ROMs?
The ROM with the task manager is:
Flashmore_23563_2.11-Base_WWE_V6.1b
Finally, to all the chefs out there: This seemed like a fantastic task manager, perhaps you guys could give it a look.
Thanks.
